The rooms are simple, baths are renovated and rather big by budget hotel standards. Staff was very nice. Location is perfect: one block from the beach and two blocks from Lincoln Drive with many restaurants and shops. Great option is you don't mind budget hotels. Certainly, my favorite budget hotel thus far in South Beach and I will return.

On the plus side, the hotel is at a great location. It is a block from the beach, on Collins St., across the street from Ritz Carlton. The price was pretty good, considering a lot of the hotels around the area cost a few hundred dollars a night. On the negative side, the hotel itself was so so. The bathroom was newly done and was great. There was no thermostat in the room, and even though we closed the vent, it was still a little chilly. The hotel lobby had an odor which bothered me. Our room faced the adjacent hotel, so we had to keep the curtains closed all the time. Overall, I guess it wasn't too bad since we didn't want to spend $300 for Ritz. If you're looking for a low price hotel to sleep in and don't plan on spending too much time at the hotel, I would recommend it.

The hotel is okay if you are looking for a budget place. You dont spend a lot of time in your room that was my thinking. So it was okay for me.

Great location. One block back from the beach and one block from the strip of Lincoln Rd. Plenty of food options and easy for transport - buses across the road, taxis just 50m down the road. Rooms were simple hostel type accommodation. We are a family of four - 2 kids (8 & 10). It met our needs as we were only sleeping there, so you can't beat it for the price. Front desk on our first and last day was great. Great with information. The in between days - not so much. As seasoned travellers, we understand the assistance that a multilingual concierge can provide. Was very hard for us though when it was only Spanish and they don't know basic directions in their local areas. Kudos to the young gentleman who ran concierge on our first and last day. He was great. Another bonus was the availability of laundry facilities. When travelling for six weeks the ability to do a wash was great.

My friend n I went to Miami for gay pride in 2013. We stay st this hotel for 2 nites place was very clean well located, friendly people, just great it had what we needed!!! Almost perfect !!

The staff and the location can not be beat!! I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a GREAT value and the best location!! I will stay here again when we come to Miami :) The nicest people we met in Miami !!!!

Bad hotel....because the room is so old

Room was very basic, bed, 2 end tables, table and two chairs. However, there was a refrigerator and microwave. The in-room safe was at eye-level and convenient to use. The bathroom was newly renovated and very nice! It was as nice as the InterContinental, only much smaller! The staff was friendly and helpful.

Rooms need renewal

It is hard to beat the price and location combo of this hotel - few factors might be deal breakers for other travelers (no climate control on the room), but it is apparent that they are trying to make improvements and little aesthetic items don't bother me. The front desk people were very helpful.

No problems. Room was very spartan.No clock,no phone.Bathroom was completely redone.Pool does exist, but is out back surrounded by cinder block walls.Our night there was very quiet. Parking is around the block, $30.00 a night. There is a liquor store right next store.For the price, I would stay here again, but if you're trying to impress, you may want to go elsewhere.Wife at first, didn't want to stay.

Stayed here Feb 8th-12th 2013, location was excellent close to everything literally walking distance to Ocean Drive and Lincoln ave. Rooms were very basic but clean and ac worked well. Overall good place to stay for the amount of money it costs per night. If you are looking for luxury this is not your hotel if you are looking for a clean basic room to stay in that is close to everything and respectable this is it.

Hotel pretty good, convenient rooms, perfect location very close to Ocean Drive and Lincoln mall.

The hotel was going through some remodeling so I didn't expect that I was going to be in tip top shape but it served its purpose. The beds wasn't comfortable, towels were rough, tv was old but the staff was helpful. I didnt expect much since the price was low enough to not mind those little things. Over all it's okay if your not a picky person.

If you want to stay in walking distance of all the action and you're trying to save a few bucks, this place is for you.

Was good for the price and the purpose of the trip.would go back

First and most important, the bathrooms are renovated and they are perfect, clean and with hot water!. Location is amaizing, close to Lincon Rd, La Espanola Way (awsome restaurants) and convetion center. For the hotels near by that are super expensive San Juan Hotel is just right for the price, nothing fancy, just what you need for a few nights.

We were placed in a room that was very noisy,not sure if it was the air conditioning unit outside our window, but we had no sleep the entire night. The rooms were a bit smelly, but bathroom was ok just very small. The only plus point was that this hotel is conveniently located to everything . We will definitely not stay here again.

Let me start by saying that you cannot beat the location of the San Juan.It is literally right in front of the Delano on Collins.Only one block away from Lincoln and its restaurants it is an ideal spot in South Beach. That is where the good things end unfortunately.The building is old and creaky, the elevator is also very old and the hall floors make noise as you walk .The rooms are from a one star hotel,sheets and other beddings are about as thin as you can imagine and the floor to floor carpet smelled of mold.My room gave to the back where a huge HVAC system made an annoying noise night and day.The room had a flat screen TV but I lost signal the first day of my stay and never got it back.To summarize;great hotel for students and young people that do not mind camping out in a barely adequate room and for people for which location is the ONLY thing that matters.

People at the desk was really friendly, it was as close as you can be to the beach, it's a safe location. The bad thing is that the pool did't look clean at all, the rest ok.

I've stayed at this hotel before, so I knew what to expect. It's not a luxury hotel, however staff are very pleasant and attentive. The hotel has been updated in the last few years, however the work was sloppy (window sill not secured to the ledge as an example). Nevertheless, the hotel is bug free, quiet and convenient walking distance to all the hot spots.

This is a well worn hotel needing much upgrading. My room had a tv that only rarely had english speaking programs, no radio, no tv guide, no clock, no alarm, no way of turning off the a/c, no bedside light, had to turn light off at the door then feel your way to the bed. No coffee making facilities and charged me $25 a day to park my car. The bed was clean and towels changed daily. Room was quiet. Carpet need replacing.

The San Juan is a budget hotel one block from the beach and very close to Lincoln Street Mall, near several big expensive hotels. The room was basic but clean, with a refrigerator, a microwave, an iron and ironing board and a small TV. The bathroom had been remodelled, so was quite nice, however the bed was a bit lumpy and sagged in the middle, but I still managed to sleep OK. Also, the faceplates on some of the electrical switches need replacing - the plugs on my appliances kept falling out of a couple of them. (There were several power points in the room, so it was not a major problem.) The staff were friendly and helpful, there was an ATM in the foyer and a coin operated laundry in the hotel, as well as a small swimming pool out the back.There is a supermarket close by as well as plenty of restaurants within walking distance, and the area was quite safe to walk in at night (I was travelling as a single female). Tour companies picked up from the hotel, and the bus stop for the Miami airport bus and various other buses was just across the road. Taxis were readily available. I made some phone calls from the phone in my room, including one to Australia and was pleasantly surprised at the cost - very reasonable. Overall I thought it was in a great position and excellent value for the price..

The staff was nice. The room was pretty basic. TV only had a few local channels, no cable. Beds weren't luxurious or anything but they were acceptable. The bathroom looked newly remodeled and was very nice. Understand that this is an old building and the bathrooms are going to be small. And there was only a shower, no tub.

I found the staff very friendly and helpfull, the room was a bit basic but passable

We stayed at the San Juan after our cruise to enjoy our vacation a little longer and had a wonderful time. The staff was curteous and helpful. Our room was clean and quiet. The only improvement would be to have coffee in the room or at least in the lobby. We will definately stay here again.

Every thing was ok till the day we were leaving no hot water to have a wash we had to begg to get a extented our check out time by 1/2 hour to 11.30 am

It was great but the ac was too low, freezing temperature. I couldn't find the controls in the room. I could call for assistance but fall asleep... other than that it was ok

Not the most fancy of the hotels but given the low price and great location I must say it is well worth it. Dress up and cross the street to Delano and you will forget the no bar and rent by the hour impression from San Juan...

for the price this place is great. close to beach, right on Collins ave. Clean newly renovated bathroom, friendly staff.

My stay was terrible, the hotel RIGHT OUTSIDE our window was being remodeled and construction started right at 6 a.m. The noise never stopped. San Juan may have not been able to help that, but central air in a hotel!? i have never heard of such thing. Most hotels have their own a/c unit in each room, thins is not the case at San Juan. A hot hotel room on Miami Beach is the last place you want to be after spending the day in the hot sun. I give San Juan 2 BIG THUMBS DOWN! BOOOOOO!

The staff make the stay. It is a older hotel which is fine, but the beds could use a topper to make them more comfortable. The staff was great we could walk to everything and had a great time.

For the last 5 years, I have visited Miami at least once a year. In the past 10 years, I have stayed at San Juan Hotel at least 5 times. Each time, it's gotten better. I stayed there for Labor Day weekend (Sep 2012) at a pretty reasonable rate. I usually don't ask a lot in 2.5 star hotels, but during this particular weekend, they exceeded my expectation. The double room was clean and had 4 large towels plus wash cloths. The bathroom was bright and nicely updated. Maid service was consistent. I didn't smell the standard mildew that tends to plague most hotels on South Beach. They even had someone at the entrance to open the door to welcome you to the hotel. I am not sure if that’s a regular thing though, so don’t expect that if you decide to stay there. The staff (day and night) was extremely courteous and helpful. The room had a safe, small refrigerator, microwave and iron with ironing board. The centrally controlled air conditioner worked perfectly. I’m glad that they had blankets though, because I really needed it one night. You can't beat the location. Not in the middle of the mayhem but close enough to everything you need: 1 block to Lincoln Mall; 1 block to the beach; a few blocks to the center on nightlife on Ocean drive; 2 blocks from CVS/Walgreen; across the street from the bus stop for the Express Airport Flyer. I would definitely stay there again if there's a good rate.

Easy walking distance to beach & main strip but a little distance from bus station. Some brillant local restaurants just around the corner off he main strip too. Room itself was large & clean with good a/c.

Great stay. Perfect location. If you are looking for a 5* hotel, you should choose som of the other hotels in the neighbourhood. But San Juan Hotel is great - especially if you just need a place to sleep. New bathrooms. Fridge and microwave. I would for sure stay there again.

Close to restaurants and entertainment, an old hotel and not well maintained. Uncomfortable beds, renovated bathrooms.

Deffinetaly payed for what i got! Bathroom was very clean, got hotel service fast, the sheets were very clean and when we needed towels or service we got sone asap. Id return for sure. The only negative thing i have to say is tge 2 nights i stayed it got really hot in the room.
