This is a great little hotel, clean, comfortable and friendly. A very pleasant alternative to the big business hotels for an overnight stay for either business or leisure. I've stayed here several times and whilst it's starting to show its age a little in some of the rooms I've stayed in, it still doesn't disappoint and remains one of my favorites when rates remain reasonable.

good location close to Soho. Staff very friendly and helpfull. Room very small. To open the minibar, one needs the skills of a neurosurgent and gynecologist. Plumbing not too good, and water pressur on top floor very low. Worst thing: wifi: unstable and speed is heartbreakingly slow. This is Britain 2012, sort it out, you can get more speed if you are willing to pay. Hotel has breakfast resto with continental breakfast buffet for 14 GBP ( I think that was the price) which is fair deal.

Loved this hotel. Small but charming - rooms were very nice. Staff was very accommodating and friendly. I would definitely stay here again.

the rooms are very small but everything what you need no escalator to the top floor service could be more sympatic but all together not a bad place to stay if aera you like. Not had the breakfast

Normally, I'd strongly recommend this hotel, but I'm afraid I'd have to suggest that people steer clear until they get working wifi service. I spent a total of 4 hours (2 of them on the phone with swisscom) trying to get a working wifi connection in room 56. When I travel, I NEED the internet to work. If a hotel says it will, and it doesn't (signal strength too low for operation), that's close to fraud. In the end, after hours of debugging effort, I was able to connect in the lobby, having lost about a quarter of my brief, and badly needed, break in London.

wonderful stay, magical bolt hole great location

The hotel was very close to the British Museum, and within easy walking distance of theatres and good restaurants. More importantly for us, it was within walking distance of the National Gallery, so we were able to walk down and queue early in the morning to get tickets for the Leonardo Exhibition! However, although we are both reasonably fit, after having been on our feet for most of the day, tit became a chore to have to climb up several flights of steps to our room on the third floor. The hotel was well-furnished, and the staff were very attentive. Our room was clean and attractive, but even without the radiator on it was sometimes so hot that we had to resort to using the air-conditioning in January! I would have preferred a little more lighting, particularly over the dressing-table. Despite our reservations, we enjoyed our stay!

Plain hotel with a good staff and a good bed. The hotel is a bit weary but a nice accomodation. The TV cable was broken during our stay but the manager came up with a fair solution. The hotel has a good location, especially if you have prepared your stay by explore street map of the surrondings.

Excellent staff, quiet rooms, comfortable beds... who needs anything more

It was difficult to find the hotel -various taxi drivers did not recognise the name . The hotel did not look like a hotel, as it is a row of terraced houses and was covered in scaffolding. There were rubbish bags at the front of the hotel throughout the visit and outside other properties -rubbish and building rubble. This gave a very poor first impression for my Japanese guests. The carpet was horrible & old fashioned. There was no lift and my guests were given a top floor room which was very poky with a low ceiling and a narrow windy staircase to access the room. The hotel is like a rabbit warren with rooms leading off in various directions. The bathroom in my room had no ventilation and smelt musty; the mirror would not clear after a shower. There was a smell of air fresheners in the hotel which was disgusting. Breakfast was served in a basement room which was fairly dark with no view. The staff were friendly and helpful but overall this hotel was very disappointing and over-priced, even for London.

nice hotel...although standard rates possibly a bit on the high side. Hotels is in reasonable nick, but it is an old converted townhouse so expect a few creaky floorboards, but it kind of adds to the charm. Location is great...5 mins from oxford street, 3 mins from British Museum, just off tyhe Totenham court road

Small single room but adequate and comfortable for one night and quiet. Breakfast at £14 for continental was very expensive and no surprise that the dining room was practically empty. Service excellent from dining staff.

OK hotel, very small room but clean. Avoid rooms facing Gower Street as they are awfully noisy. Rooms facing the back garden should be ok. Will not book again

Okay - nice hotel inside. Tidy and a bit neater than many places in the district. When I visited there was substantial scaffolding outside the building as part of ongoing maintenance. Put me off initially but I shouldn't have worried. My room (3) was small. There was a big comfy bed in it which was great, a dock for my ipod which was cool. TV worked fine. The bathroom was very narrow and I feel that a walk-in shower might be better than forcing a bath in. The space between the bath and the towel rail is very narrow and difficult to get through. But the shower worked fine and the water was hot - plenty of it. Nice hotel soaps and shower gel. Thoughtful bottle of water by the bed. Not enough plug sockets for the business traveler so I had to unplug several lamps and other items to charge my phone, laptop etc. These are niggles. It still came in a tenner less than Ibis. I did not try the bar or breakfast because I had other arrangements.

All the staff were very helpful and courteous. The hotel owners 'The Eton Collection' need to spend some money on refurnishing the hotel as it was looking tired.; the dead lock didn't work on my door and the window lock was broken and the wall paper was peeling of the wall by the air-conditioning unit.

I have been going to the Academy for about 8 years, and have never been disappointed. It is in the heart of Bloomsbury a few blocks from the British Museum, the undereground, and close to much of the city. The Academy is in old townhouses with rooms that vary widely in size. Many would be smaller than many Americans would expect, but are perfectly comfortable, with a very friendly and capable staff, and serves an excellent breakfast. The new owners are currently renovating rooms, so shortly it will be even more up to date.

Hotel is well situated for exploring Covent Gardens, Soho and shopping on Oxford St. Good restaurants and bars nearby. Service was great. Rooms were clean and neat. Patio and conservatory give it a homey feel; definitely not a cookie cutter hotel. On the down side there is a lot of traffic noise which means that windows cannot be left open. Additionally the air conditioning unit was not very powerful. No need to go for breakfast at the hotel when Eat/Pret a Manger/Table du Pain are all right around the corner.

The staff are really professional and worked to ensure my stay was comfortable. The AC didn't work in my room so they upgraded me. However both rooms were very nice - larger than what you often get in London. The internet connectivity was an issue - so this hotel not recco-ed if you need that. The location was a little far from the tube, however I enjoyed the 20 minute walk. There are a number of breakfast places around the corner if you don't want to have breakfast at the hotel. There's no lift but the staff whisked my bags to my room in a jiffy and back down upon departure. I am a Canadian woman who travels often on business. This was a vacation with some business mixed in.

The single room was very small but extremely clean and well decorated. The whole hotel was well run and great value for money. The main downside was the extremely slow free wifi with a limit on usage that ran out after 2 hours of a 24hr pass. You had to pay if you wanted the quicker business internet. All in all I would definitely stay again

We loved this boutique hotel in Bloomsbury only 2 blocks from the back entrance to the British Museum and a short walk into the trendy neighborhood of Fritzrovia with its great restaurants and nightlife. It is also convenient to a number of tube stations particularly the Northern Line at Goodge Station. We had a suite for my husband, myself and our daughter which was roomy and comfortable - elegantly restored architectural detail, immaculate white linens with down pillows&quilts and a lovely marbled bathroom. Very clean. We loved having free WIFI and the hotel staff is extremely friendly and helpful - especially with carrying your bags to the upstairs rooms as there is no lift. We would definitely return to this hotel when in London for its location and for its reasonably priced rooms by London boutique hotel standards.

Hotel was fine but room was hot. Seems they are going to improve the airconditioning but temperature in the room stayed at almost 30 degrees while outside it was not even very hot. Rest of the hotel is nice and friendly staff..

We had a wonderful time staying at the Academy. The service was excellent and the staff attentive. The rooms were very comfortable and well designed. We stayed in two different rooms - one was tiny but so beautiful, but too small for my husband so the staff gladly moved us as soon as a room was available. We explored the streets - good reasonable restaurants nearby - Percy Street has wonderful restaurants at the far end (one that Ezra Pound once visited), and Charlotte street. Also wander through some of the most lovely squares - Russell, Bloomsbury, and many more. Youthful college students provide a contemporary contrast to the historical setting.

I highly recommend The Academy Hotel, the staff are most helpful and professional. The ambience in the hotel echoes the spirit of Bloomsbury.

the smallest rooms you can imgine; located 3rd & 4th floor; no lift; staircase shabby & railing unstable. certain areas in the room had dust on them. we reserved 2 rooms and each was in a different building !!!

If u don't mind walking this place is excellent. Super affordable especially for London and a clean place with an LCD TV and cable. Everything was as clean as expected and I would recommend to my mother.

It's a nice and quiet place on a busy lane east of central London. The house service is very friendly, assisting and helpful. The rooms are really small, but clean and sober.

I am a regular guest at the hotel. However due to adverse weather conditions I was unable to fly, and therefore had to cancel the hotel- they have charged me with the full confirmation rate

We loved our stay at the Academy. The location was great, close to bars, restaurants and shopping as well as to the underground. The room was really nice, neat and tidy. The bed and the sheets were extreemly comfy! We only stayed one night but we could definately have stayed longer! Only downsides were that breakfast wasn't included, the wi-fi was down and the fact that the waterpressure in the shower was a bit low (we were on the top floor). Other than that, we loved it!

Hotel is in a series of townhouses about four blocks from the Brittish Museum in a nice neiborhood full of students and spotted with pubs, and a variety of different types of restaurants, many of them reasonably priced. There is also shopping of all kinds close by and a couple of really nice parks. We walked to Westminster Abby, to Covent Garder, to St Pauls, all over, but there are tube stops close by and it seemed as if every bus in London went by the hotel. (Rooms away from the street are quieter.) Our room was small without a chair, other than the desk chair, but still comfortable. Service was good. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Would definitely recomment this hotel.

The Academy is close to two tube stations, and borders on Soho district. The British Museum is down the street. Though small by US standards, the room was very comfortable and well apportioned. The staff was accommodating and cheerful.

Location - 15 to 20 minute walk from Euston; Tottenham Court road; Oxford street shops; Covent garden and Soho. There isn't really an abundance of great bars and restaurants any closer to walk to at night. Rooms are clean but tiny. Had to dodge the mantelpiece to get down my side of the bed; banged arm several time on trouser press; stubbed toe frequently on suitcase picking my way to the bathroom... so very lacking in space...you get the picture! The bathroom is absolutely miniscule and claustrophobic. Only place for one person to stand and then you could virtually touch all four walls with your hands. Although it was beautifully decorated, I didn't want to spend longer than I had to in the room/bathroom. Was also promised bottled water on the first night, which didn't materialise. On the plus side, the staff were friendly and accommodating with any requests, which were acted on very promptly. The room was scrupulously clean. Modern gadgets in the room - ipod dock and TV shoe-horned in. Overall, not a bad experience. I wouldn't choose to stay here again, but neither would I refuse if it was the only option!

A deux pas de Soho, dans une jolie maison de style victorien, cet hôtel offre des chambres très agréables et reste assez calme même lorsque ces dernières donnent côté rue. Un petit bémol pour la chambre au rez inférieur, assez sombre, mais tout de même raffinée et confortable. Un des gros avantage est le quartier résidentiel qui offre un certain calme à seulement 5 minutes à pied d'Oxford street.

Hôtél très sympa en plein centre de Londres. Ce qui m'a frappé le plus positivement: - la situation de l'hôtel - la gentillesse et la disponibilité du personnel Notes négatives: - Dans un 4 étoiles on s'attend à ce que l'on échange les serviettes de bain tous les jours, mais ce n'était pas le cas. - J'ai eue une très jolie chambre au dernier étage de l'hotel, côté rue. Très bruyant. Mais je peux dire avoir été satisfait de l'hôtel. Certes, je ne reviendrai pas en période de tarif plein, mais en promo pourquoi pas...

Fräscht hotell med proffsig personal. Mycket ljud från gatan på bottenvåningen. Hotellfrukostens kvalitet motsvarar inte priset.

Dejligt hotel. Hyggeligt og centralt 5 min fra undergrund. Vi boede på værelse på øverste etage hvor der var meget lidt tryk på vandet. Personalet forsøgte at reparere men uden held og vi fik tilbudt andet værelse. Super hyggelig dagligstue som bør nydes ved besøg. Værelset var varmt og dejligt selvom huse i London typisk er kolde og fugtige. Anbefales absolut.
