The Grand Hotel may look 'grand' from the outside, and indeed from the photos they conveniently feature on their website. the reality is somewhat different. My room was dull, drab and miserable. the wallpaper was pealing off the walls and my 'view' was the side of a building next door. I was on the 1st level, near the entrance to the corridor which was near the balcony overlooking the foyer/reception area, which meant the noise travelled up to my room. there was a function on the 1st night I stayed and I could hear everyone who was congregating in the reception area until the wee hours.It kept me awake most of the night. The hotel did thankfully move me to a bigger room on the 6th floor, which was much better for my 2nd/last night. I definitely wouldnt rush back, this hotel is tired and in dire need of a renovation.

and excellent service and nice common areas but room in need of a facelift, especially the bathroom.

Being a Victorian building ,the hotels impressive due to scale and archictecture, inside and out. Today its tired and needs a total refurb. The staff are very pleasant and the location is superb but its very noisy if you have a sea view. The rooms are boiling, even in Spring, yet theres no AC. B'fast was the only meal we had, it was nice but nothing special . What is nice is that they allow pets so we took our dog. The reputation is what keeps the hotel going but you arent stepping back to days of Victorian splendour, quite the opposite in fact. Being on the front and having to have your windows open due the the stuffy rooms you hear drunks and brawls and constant traffic making it v hard to sleep plus the bed we had was so soft and knackered. We didnt feel relaxed or refreshed when we left and doubt we will return.

CLOSE TO THE FAMOUS 'LANES' SHOPS AND OTHER SHOPS/STORES,RESTAURANTS AND CASINO.OLDE WORLD CHARM,ATTENTIVE STAFF,WONDERFUL BUFFET BREAKFAST WITH CERTAIN EGG DISHES COOKED TO ORDER.DELICIOUS RESTAURANT FOOD-NOT ENORMOUS PORTIONS BUT NOT NOUVEAU CUISINE EITHER!wONDERFUL VICTORIAN ARCHITECTURE- A REAL 'FEEL GOOD'FACTOR.NOT ROWDY-QUIET ELEGANCE

Fabulous hotel, fabulous town, fabulous weekend x

Step back in time, wonderfully elegant, could not fault the staff, so helpful unlike most places you can stay these days. Did not eat there except for breakfast which boasted everything possible and the hot buffet was HOT. Would go there again and would try dinner next time.

Having found an excellent deal we were looking forward to our stay in the Grand Hotel. The hotel is very impressive from the outside but wait until you enter! The staff all look superb in their uniforms and are very attentive. A credit to the hotel and they made our stay almost perfet. They only negative was the room itself. The cleanliness, layout, fixtures and fittings were all fine. It was the brightness! The room was situated somewhere at the back/side of the building. The windows were covered and wouldn't open for safety reasons. The lighting inside was not adequate and made the room look dark and dingy which it was not. Such a shame as everything else was just perfect!

A grand Victorian seaside hotel with lots of marble, grand staircases and large well maintained very comfortable rooms. Huge amount of character compared to faceless anaemic modern places. Excellent staff, good food and a quiet atmosphere.

Stayed in a standard room which was small and quite scruffy. Was expecting much better for the money and considering the Hotels reputation.

The hotel is perfect although there rooms which are renovated while other's aren't yet. The size of the room was perfect; hotel and staff gives excellent support and don't forget to take your time for breakfast!!!

We were celebrating my birthday but i felt as if I was in a prison cell. The ligting in the room was very poor and the window was filthy and looked out on a brick wall. The bathroom lock was faulty and twice we had problems unlocking the door.The mini safe could be lifted out of the cupboard but the fridge could not be opened unless it was removed from the unit. We did enjoy the food thaks to Matthew and Jose, who made us feel very welcome. We feel the sunday roast was overrated,as the meat was cold. We have since looked at other hotels in the area and that is where we will stay next time.

The Grand has great common areas and looks impressive. However we had a standard room on the first floor facing the backyard. The windows had shabby looking net curtains I guess that we're to stop you being overlooked. The furniture in the room was tired and a lot of it had quite bad scuff marks and worn out corners. I was also surprised that a hotel of this standard didn't have a mini bar. Dispute this we liked the hotel and the staff were great.

We had a much needed break at The Grand. Really pleased with our room, service and what a delicious breakfast. Highly recommended.

Great Staff, great rooms and great view, really I couldn't fault this hotel, and would definitely stay there again, only one slight niggle, there was a lot of xmas parties going on at the time and the car parking cost over £50 for two nights !!

From the outside the hotel looks grand and beautiful. However the rooms are a different story. Our room was freezing cold. The window in the bathroom and bedroom does not shot completely so there was an icy draft (not pleasant when your taking a shower). It was warmer in the corridor than out room! The radiators in the room would also not turn on. When I called reception a maintenance guy came in with a heater and didn't even bother checking the heating as they obviously knew there was already an issue!!!! overall it was not a memorable experience and I wish I had of booked in the travelodge around the corner!!

An excellent stay - at a price but it couldn't be better.

Had high hopes, but my room looked absolutely nothing at all like the pictures on the website. It was shabby and needed refurbishment. Behind the bed the carpets were torn, and the taps in the bathroom didn't work properly. There were weird wooden shutters over the bathroom windows disguising the view onto what looked to be an outside boiler. Uncared for, out of date and poor value for money.

A little disappointed with our room, windows barely opened and overlooked a yard with air conditioning vents constantly buzzing, But on the whole we was impressed with the hotel, the breakfast was very nice and staff were very helpful.

Very welcoming,comfortable room,excellent service ,ideal position for shopping and being able to walk along the beach.would definitely stay there again.

Great location as was visiting the Brighton Centre which is just next door. Not far from the lanes and right on the seafront. Hotel is just as it is called, Grand. Staff were polite. Wasn't mad on the cooked breakfast but lots of other choices available. On the whole, had a lovely stay.

Friendly helpful staff added to the impressive 150 yr old hotel, comfortable room and great food and cocktails made for a wonderful stay. The Hotel was full so the dining room was very full in the morning however the staff managed us all efficently with a smile. If you like a stylised old fashioned hotel with wonderful service then go to The Grand

We had a large room and en suite. It was a bit dark because it was at the back of the hotel but we had asked for a quiet room which we got. The bed was large and very comfortable clearly with a very good quality mattress and thick cotton sheets. The shower worked perfectly although the bath took a long time to fill so we didn't bother after the first time. The buffet breakfast was excellent with everything you could wish for. A Special Menu was offered on Sunday but we were too full to try it. The breakfast room was spacious so never cramped or noisy, with a good view of the sea. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout although there seemed to be too many male staff waiting in the lobby - I'm not sure why. I've stayed in Brighton many times including more expensive hotels but the Grand is definitely the best so far.

The staff were delightful and helpful, the communal areas were smart comfortable and the pianist in the lounge/bar a pleasant bonus. Our room and bathroom were rather tired and in need of redecorating, but as we had booked a very good discount rate we were obviously not going to have the best rooms in the house!! In spite of the bedroom we had a most enjoyable stay, breakfast was all that anyone could wish for and the ambience very welcoming. Thank you

We saw other reviews and decided to upgrade to a de luxe room - well worth it. Breakfast was superb, all hotel staff were helpful and friendly. It was a bit noisey outside at 2am but you are on the seafront.

Comfortable hotel beside the conference centre and close to town. Spacious room. Nice toiletries. Lovely soft pillows. Good breakfast buffet.

I booked a double room for one night for my husband's birthday through a fantastic deal with hotels.com. The deal included dinner, bed and breakfast and at no point did we feel like second-rate guests. The room we were given on the second floor had been recently refurbished and was luxurious, clean and modern. Staff were friendly and curteous throughout and allowed us to delay our dinner reservation so we could enjoy a drink at the bar. Breakfast was wonderful, with a table overlooking the sea. The Grand is such a magnificent hotel and never disappoints in my opinion.

I attended a conference at The Grand, so the location was ideal. However, that is sadly where my praises end. Another guest's belongings were in my room, my wake-up call never materialised and the provisions for a vegan diet were poor. I do not want to digress into a rant, the hotel was clean and had a bed (job done). I would just like to stress, I don't think it's worth the stress. I wish I'd gone for a smaller hotel with better service.

This is a very nice hotel, and the grandess in Brighton, but it is overpriced for today's world. Great location and best breakfast in Brighton. However, for the price, I expected more. They were not prepared for so many people at breakfast on the bank holiday (they should have known how full they were), and so they ran out of fruit. Seems like they needed more help. I had trouble accessing the wi-fi and they told me they didn't have their folks available to fix it over the weekend (get real). TVs in rooms are outdated and much cheaper hotels have better cable TV selections. Rooms were nice but I expected better for the price. If I am going to put out a lot of money for a hotel, I expect it to be a real 5 star with all the amenities. I stayed here last in 1995, and it still seems like a work in progress. No air conditioning. Go figure. Next time I'll try the Hilton or Holiday Inn.

Lovely stay and staff very good. Room very hot and stuffy with no air con and windows nailed down. Would have been noisy with windows open though. Food was very nice but did not expect service charge to be added.

We had a lovely stay and a great breakfast.

Very nice Hotel, great welcome, food good, beer expensive (as you'd expect). Room was small, not Grand and ALL windows were screw shut. Meaning it was a fire hazard and very stuffy. Not what you would expect from a so called top hotel.

I was very pleased. The breakfast buffet is wonderful. Staff is very professional and pleasant. The location is excellent.. The place was spotless.

The hotel was grand just as the name suggests. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our visit was very enjoyable. The breakfast was fresh, delicious and they provided a great selection. We will definitely come back again.

Booked hotel for friends 40th ten mothers on a stress free weekend and that is exactly what we got the staff at the grand hotel brighton were outstanding they were polite, friendly and helpful. The hotel is situated on the sea front convenient to the lanes some fabulous shopping something for everyone. Breakfast was included in our stay and again this was set up very well, buffet style, there was always plenty you have a choice of a full english breakfast, fresh fruit, continental breakfast and as much tea and coffee as you like.All staff were very helpful and courteous. If you are going to brighton stay at this hotel treat yourself.

A great location, on the seafront. A lovely traditional hotel with spacious contemporary rooms. Amazing buffet breakfast.

Poor service at the reception, it really cost nothing to be friendly but instead we got full of attitude unfriendly welcome. The lady was perhaps homophobic. The bar and restaurant staff was on the contrary very professional and friendly. I felt like our room needed updating. Disappointing, I will think twice before I book it again.

The only reason I would not give this hotel a resounding 5 stars is due to radiator not working in room, a delay in check-in and a minor mishap with luggage misdelivered. Other than that, this hotel was absolutely fantastic. All issues were corrected with professionalism, and corrected quite quickly. GREAT breakfast, service and location. When my room was not quite ready, I was treated to tea in the lounge/bar area, and the front desk worked around a reservation snafu with courteous service that really went above and beyond. Gym/fitness facility was great as well. I would return here in a heartbeat.
