A very nice hotel with very accomodating personell. It felt like a home away from home

The Avalon is a trendy, pretty little updated "motel" with fun decor and great service. Our only complaint was the size of our room - something you'd see in downtown Manhatten, but not in sprawling LA! Upon looking at the hotel layout on the fire escape instructions on the door, I realized we were in the smallest room in the place. The front desk said "every room has its unique character" and to ask for specific rooms when you check in. Have a look, and don't get room 206 (?) RIGHT next to the busy, noisy road and TINY! Some black-out curtains and a bedside clock/ipod dock would be nice, too.

Our hotel stay was very pleasant, the bed was extremely comfortable, the sheets very soft and clean. However we were disappointed by the carpet stains and the bedroom window not closing. A 1/2 inch gap left the cold air and street noise in. The personnel, especially the valet parking attendents, were very pleasant, and attentive.

Location is GREAT! Service is great too. Valet parking is a bit pricey ($30/night). Wished we were in the main hotel instead of little building accross the street. Room pretty noisy, due to building previously mentioned I guess. Shower in bathroom should have a full curtain instead of half window. Happy with cleaning lady, who organized our bath products. Appreciated the internet access with printer (free).

We chose the Avalon because it was close to the sites we wanted to see the next day, and we decided a splurge on our honeymoon was worth it. Sadly, it was one of the worst hotels we stayed in. It is actually a motel. We left the warm lobby to head into the 50 degree weather to walk waaaay down to our room, and then of course the room was freezing as well. The carpet was thin and contained multiple stains. The room was not inviting whatsoever. It had a smell in it that may have been cleaning solution, though it did not smell clean. The bed didn't even have any sheets on it so we slept under only the comforter (always the dirtiest thing in the room). The mattress itself didn't even fit in the weird bed frame that it was built in to. We didn't feel super safe in the room either, since there was a gap around the whole door so you could see every time someone walked by. We couldn't wait to leave. Upside? Close to Norms for a great breakfast and 10 minutes or so to Hollywood.

Very nicely update with an old Hollywood feel. Rooms are done in soft colors, very minimalist. You definitely know you're in the BH/Hollywood area!

Very small rooms where you can barely move; staff is incompetent, nasty and couldn't care less about your needs; Had a glass sitting with water in it for my entire stay, no one took it or cleaned it. Small hotel 3-story high with a swimming pool and a bar in the middle blasting music until 1:30 in the morning, don't go there if you have a meeting in the morning. Don't go there, period. Probably one of the worst hotels I have stayed at in the past 3 years.

After stuggling to find this well-hidden little gem we checked in to the most perfect hotel. The staff were extremey friendly and were more than happy to offer us advise as to how we could get the most out of the area in only 2 days. They suggested fantastic bars and restaurants and were more then happy to draw maps/write directions to places of interest - always asking us how we got on, upon our return. The only gripe I have is with the cost of the valet parking, but to be honest, the quality of service we received made up for it. I would throroughly recommend The Avalon - 5 stars...

Very king staff , Outstanding service , great Food.

I stayed for two nights to be within walking distance of BH's shopping center. The room was large and very well appointed. Most important, it was very quiet. Service at the desk and curbside was excellent. A little gem.

Hotel is small and cozy, which is exactly what we liked the most about it. Nice pool area, where you can have breakfast or dinner, with good service from the staff. As Los Angeles is a huge city, it is difficult to say weather the hotel location is optimal, but if you want to spend time around Rodeo Drive stylish area, the hotel is just a 10-15 min. walk from it.

No Idea how this hotel is rated 4 stars. Room is very small and dirty. It reminds me of a truck stop on the freeway. Shower has low water pressure and hot water becomes cold water suddenly or vice versa. Towels were once white but grey now. Big shampoo/conditional/shower gel bottles are te ones you find from the gym. one of them did not even work due to the pump broken. Rooms are open to the bar noise. You can not sleep bc of the noise. I felt like I was in priosn or something. Carpet is dirty. Only thing I liked about this hotel was the cool car area around the pool. Hotel crew sevice was not bad. Oh I liked the comforter and the pillows. BUT I will never ever stay here again. This hotels should be more lik 2 stars and $50 / night.

Beautiful environment of city style. Very clean Room small but comfortable. Queen bed, large windows, TV, a single chair to relax. No table to write or prepare the route the next day. No coffee included in the room. While we were on the side of the street, it was not noisy. We had good service from the staff.

Great hotel!! Very comfortable room, Love the 60's inspired decoration. Excellent service and great breakfast. Walking distance to Rodeo Drive, and dinner by the pool after work was a real treat.

We loved our stay here, service was great.

LA cool epitomised.

I booked this hotel because I liked the look and atmosphere. When I checked in, they put me in the back tower - I had to walk through and alley and into a big concrete building that felt like I was in an underground bunker. For the price I paid, I was very turned off by this. The room was well decorated and the atmosphere from the lobby/hotel carried nicely into it. However, they must of spent all the money on the decor because the mattress was something out of Motel 6. I was relieved to only spend one night on it.

They had no movies that were available in theaters, even holiday inn has that. Plus our room was in a separate building accross the street from the hotel

I stayed for a night after a friends party at the pool. The staff was pretentious and snotty (except for the Mexican bell boys and valets). The hotel clerk tried to over charge me drinks at the bar from the night before by adding it to the room bill. I had receipts for payment on a different card and showed him my online account with the charge via smart phone. He finally backed down and said he would take it off my room bill. I thought I would treat my self by staying there but wish I didn't.

After reading some negative reviews, I was hesitant to book here.. But decided to go for it, and I am SO glad we did. The hotel staff was phenomenal and incredibly attentve... The newly renovated room we stayed in was super comfy and laden with spa like toiletries and the pool area although smaller (remember it's a boutique hotel) was great for breakfasts and pre dinner drinks. I will def stay here again!

Great hotel, in cool location. Very good service. Just needs kettle in the room.

It was dissapointing for us that we had to stay on the other side on the street. Some of the guests have to stay in a seperate building on the other side of the street. If you are there, you miss most of the flair.

Enjoyable stay, the room was excellent newly renovated and totally suitable for our requirements. Close to Rodeo Drive and transport to Santa Monica and other areas. Restaurant had wonderful food and great service. Customer service was excellent, we had a late flight out and they quite happily held our luggage for us all day until we were picked up by our shuttle. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Once in the room it was great, newly renovated but was a bit noisy when people walked down the corridor or in rooms above. It was a little hard to locate to start with but is in a good location. Walking distance from Rodeo Dr etc

Great quaint hotel in Beverly Hills. Service was great. I stayed in there annex hotel acros the streed and it was bit noisy, specially in the morning.

Friendly staff, but was not informed that I would have to pay 30$ a night per car for parking and parking on the street is not an option. Room was hot and air conditioner was noisy and had ice falling out of it.

Hotel was beautiful Art Deco historical place. Highlight was pool side cabanas & restaurant, and great location, close to many shopping in a quiet upscale area of Beverly Hills. On the negative, when I had someone drop something off at the hotel lobby for me, instead of the concierge receiving then having a staff take it up to room, they actually gave an extra room key to this person I don't know too well. Otherwise, you can hear too well, sounds of the elevator motors from room, and people partying downstair by the pool. Too bad, this was a very well maintained beautiful hotel.

I loved this hotel the first time I stayed there and made sure that I stayed there when I returned this year. It is beautifully decorated and the service is impeccable. Breakfast delivered in 15 minutes and it was delicious!. I stayed in the newer building across the street due to renovations and it was darling. Would could back again and recommend to friends.

Great hotel. Cool, hip, great food and a comfortable bed! Just a one mile walk to all the best shopping in Beverly Hills. Would stay here again for sure.

This is NOT a business travelers hotel. WiFi is like dialup. One phone by bed. None on table. You walk across a street to another bldg. No elevator! You have to ASK for tea bags. They only give you coffee. Coffee pot had a hole in back and all the water flowed onto counter in the morning. Staff was really great and responsive. Too LA boutiquey for business. Old LA hotel - kept thinking Frank, Sammy and Dean would stroll in. Would never stay there again.

Hotel is nice now, but once the renovations are done this will be a great boutique hotel. Hotel staff are top notch!

Bar scene in pool area makes the hotel noisy. Try and get a room at the back end of hotel if you want some quiet. TV did not work (staff did say "sorry" at that's it). Good location. Staff was nice. Rooms kind of drab. Three stars is more accurate.

Nice little retro art deco hotel. Think "hideaway". Restaurant is average but not bad. Decent wine list. Nice bar. Cool pool.

I would definitely recommend this hotel. Very small but nice pool area, great location near everything in Beverly Hills. Great bath products and the water pressure was really nice too.

Extremely well tended hotel. Very comfortable beds and accommodations in room as well though out the hotel. Restaurant was delightful and room service timely and courteous. In out service for car was reasonably priced and service was on time with attendants that greeted guests with a smile.

As we were there not as vacationers but to be near a critically ill daughter in the hospital, the comfort and caring by a staff, none of whom were aware of our situation, were a blessing. No-hassle, no-wait valet service, great kindness from everyone. The same things you want on a vacation from any kind of stress. Thank you, everyone.
