Very nice location, close to all main touristic venues. Hotel is a bit older style, like average european hotel. The room we were in could have used some refurbishing as the furniture was looking tired.

I was very pleased with my stay at this hotel. The staff was quite friendly and eager to make helpful suggestions. I was happy about that because I was a bit confused by the names of the streets and whether or not I'd need to take a taxi to my business meetings. Fortunately, the staff told me not to do that and showed me how to get where I needed to go! Breakfast was quite varied and filling. Being a vegetarian, I was able to find plenty of things to eat.

We were given a suite (even though I only booked a room for 2 adults and a 2yr old. Very impressed - big rooms and clean with good quality fittings. The staff were very friendly and professional - especially on the front desk. The hotel is perfectly placed for viewing the city - and very close to the FLYTOGET train from the airport (station in the same square). Only negatives were - minbar didn't work and they never got around to changing it. Not a problem in winter when you can put food on the outside window sill, but annoying if it were summer. Also you can hear the bass of the local bars etc until late in the night. Not loud but could annoy some people (and our room didn't overlook the square which would probably have been noisier). That's the price you pay for such a central location though.

This hotel was superior in all aspects, including a very delicious and extensive set of tasty choices on the breakfast buffet.The staff is very professional, helpful and personable, and the location is perfect for seeing all that Oslo offers.I have traveled to nearly 50 countries on 3 continents,and I rate this hotel as an excellent value.

I've visited this hotel 3 times and the rooms are always a good size with a sofa as well as a bed. Some parts of the rooms look a little tired, but they are always spotlessly clean and more than adequate for a night away and would be an ideal room from which to explore the city. Next to the hotel is a small corner shop with a hot counter if you want a snack, or there is TGI Fridays, Oleary's or Hard Rock Cafe within 50 yards of the hotel for a evening meal. The only thing I would like the hotel to improve is a better range at breakfast, it's not bad though and certainly doesn't put me off returning.

Paid for a junior suite with separate bedroom, but was only offered a so-called family room with extra beds. Nice view to the parliament and Karl Johan street, however accompanied by traffic and night life, as the windows didn't offer much in terms of noice cancellation. Overall impression: centrally located, but could certainly use a facelift.

The location was great, very near Karl Johan gate and National Theatre with easy train access to the airport. Rooms are decent, nothing special but nothing wrong. They forgot to clean my room during the day, but showed up later and asked if I needed anything. Good free breakfast.

Clean, comfortable (but rather small) room, in a hotel that is within easy walking distance of the National Gallery. Staff really friendly and helpful, breakfast excellent. Good value.

Excellent place stay with your family

Everything at this hotel was good! The real selling point though, is the location! So many things are within walking distance that it's easy to pop back to the hotel if you've forgotten something or need a rest. The only part of the experience that was not great was the breakfast room. The food itself was good, but with a hotel as large as this one was, there were just so many people in the breakfast room, bumping into each other, kids running around and screaming, people taking chairs from other tables to pull up to other tables, etc. The service staff were wonderful and did everything they could to keep the area clean and organized, there were just too many people in a small space to have it be calm and enjoyable.

This room was amazing. I loved every second in my room. On the 5th floor, I had my own little balcony I could sit on while I read a book. There was also a sofa and comfortable bed. You are right by many of Oslo's biggest sites.

on weekends rooms that look out on to the street can be very noisy at night due to being next door eatery and bars with live music. we could not sleep til 3 am, we had to keep the windows closed even though it was too warm in the room, otherwise it would be a nice hotel.

Location is fabulous. Easy walking distance to Wharf, Palace, sight-seeing. Nice neighborhood for walking/shopping/browsing/peoplewatching. The train (be sure to take the local train and not the express train. It is half the price and runs the same route with only a couple of extra stops) from the airport lets off (National Theater Exit) a 3 minute walk from the hotel. The hotel was clean, the staff was friendly and accommodating, the breakfast buffet was fabulous (by European standards it was typical with all of the meats, cheeses, fresh fruit etc.) . One of the floors had a hospitality room that had (free) coffee, tea, cappacino maker, tables, etc. This was great because I love my cappacino's and buying anything in Norway was VERY expensive. The room was small (by American standards - typical of European hotels). and there was really nowhere to un-pack (I don't remember any drawers and just a few coat hangers) this was okay since we only spent two days in Oslo. The bed was very comfortable with luxurious sheets/douvet/pillows. Overall we enjoyed our stay and thought that it was a great value. I would recommend this hotel to any family/friends who travel to Oslo.

This is a classic case of site vs situation. The site could not be better - right in the heart of Oslo and so central to all the sights - most accessible on foot from here. We even walked with our luggage to Central station. The situation, though, was terrible. The hotel is situated either next to or on top of a nightclub. We complained, but there were no rooms available to shift to. After 3am, we got some sleep. Not overly impressed that the nightclub is not mentioned anywhere. It was our free hotels.com welcome rewards night, so were bitterly disappointed it was completely wasted in a noisy hotel.

Hotel was nice, just needed wash cloths in the bathroom.

The staff was helpful and welcoming. The breakfast was included, and had quite a varied array of food. The location cannot be beat; in the centre of the old section of Oslo, bus to the airport stops around the corner. The rooms were quite quiet for the location. No toiletries, and the hairdryer over heated quickly.

Old room; it was too warm (bad airing?). Modest, but OK (standard) breakfast. The hotel has a nice old atmosphere and is close to most of the landmarks.

Hotel is ideal if you wnat to get close to all the sights and have good expensive restaurants close by. Overall a very European feel but way too expensive for what one gets. We also had numerous problems with TV. Could net get normal channels in english and all adult channels were not blocked. Quite a surprise for a family suite. The girl at reception tried to change room but other family suite had same problem. Apparently TV is outsourced and not centrally controlled. Definitely not under control and not keen to assist tourist with kids whom want to watch TV.

We stayed for 4 nights. When we checked in ,, our room black out 5 times... The circuit breaker keeps tripping.. They didn't gave any other room to change fir us.. The heater don't seem to function. But generally , we can live with that and it was a nice stay.

My brother and I had a great stay at the Best Western Karl Johan hotel - we went for two single rooms, which were very reasonably priced, and they put us next door to each other, which was a nice touch. The rooms were a good size for singles, well equipped and spotlessly clean. The hotel staff were unfailingly polite and helpful. The breakfast buffet was very nice. The hotel is incredibly well-located - right in the centre of the main street through Oslo, walking distance to almost everything you'd need to see as a tourist, and very near a T station for the few sights that are further afield. It's also 10-15 minutes walk from the bus terminal and central station, which is super-handy as that's where most airpot transfers arrive. If you are going over a weekend, be aware that there will be some noise from the street outside late at night, as it seems Oslo likes to party on a Friday and Saturday night! Ear plugs would be recommended if you're a light sleeper, but there is very little street noise on all other nights of the week.

The rates are cheaper than other hotels, the room was a little cramped, the bed was a little hard, but breakfast had a nice variety. We could not hear anyone in the rooms next door- but the door to the hallway let in whatever noise was present at whatever hour. The hotel is smack-dab right in the center of where a tourist would want to go with all of the sites easily accessible including the train station which is only a few 100 meters away (walking distance, straight up the road). Restaurants are all over the place as well.

The staff at the Karl Johan was very friendly and helpful, the hotel was very clean, and the location was great. The room was small but when it comes right doan to it, I didn't need any more space than the room provided. It worked out great.

Excellent central location, friendly staff, nice breakfast (make your own waffles!) TV in room. Unfortunately loud street noise. Recommended.

the hotel is centrally located at Karl Johans Gate which is the main shopping and cafe area. It is in walking distance from central train station or bus terminal. the breakfast at the hotel is quite good and overall the stay at the hotel was pleasant. The single room is OK with the room size and bathroom is quite spacious, but the single bed is small.

I have mixed reviews for this hotel. First off - the location is PERFECT. Smack in the center of Oslo's busiest area, close bus and tram stops, not far from main bus/train terminal, close to ferry, near national gallery and theater...I could go on. The downside is that with the great location comes a lot of noise. There is a TGI Fridays and Hard Rock hotel and when the summer sun stays bright, people hang out drinking all night....lots of noise!!!! The hotel itself is 3 star and is true to being 3 star. So, if you are looking for location and don't mind the partying - book it! If you need your rest....find something else.
