Thought the hotel was beautiful once we checked in and got to our hotel room we found we had a sea view and a jacuzzi bath both were things u normally had to pay extra for the bed was comfortable and room was clean staff were helpfully and breakfast in the morning was very nice I would definitely stay here again

hotel is in a gd location, but needs an upgrading, hotel looks a little tiered.

I had a very good experience at the hotel. My room (252) was large and overlooked the beach and pier. This hotel has the prime location along the beach - but remember, it is an old hotel. Yes, the floors squeak, and the windows may have to be propped open, but for the money you can't beat it. The downside of the beach view is the noise from the street right below - but it didn't bother me. I am a 70 year old woman traveling alone and used to nice hotels - and I loved the location - just a few short blocks from the Lanes for shopping, across from the beach with its outdoor restaurants, and right next to the bus stop for the bus to Heathrow and Gatwick. No taxi needed! Breakfast was fine - the food on the buffet was even hot which is more than I can say for many more expensive hotels. The bar itself was small but friendly, and the prices very reasonable. The large lounge may be one of the prime locations on the beach - and sitting with a cup of coffee and reading the morning paper starts the day perfectly. Lots of painting going on at the hotel and all around town, getting ready for the onslaught of tourists expected this summer. After reading some of the comments on the internet about this hotel, I was worried - but I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. I would return.

The location is great, across from the pier and the beach. The hotel has seen a lot of wear an tear. The furniture had scratches all over, and the wall paper was bubbling and peeling. The decor was not appealing. But the hotel made up for its condition by being clean, and the staff was friendly. We were two single guys going down for one night to have a pub crawl with friends, for that the hotel was a perfect fit.. But I would never go with my girlfriend for a romantic weekend.

We always stay at The Royal Albion when visiting Brighton and have just returned from our tenth visit! The hotel could do with some TLC and some refurbishment in places but for the price you pay and the amount of time you spend in a hotel, you can't go far wrong! The Royal Albion is so conveniently located that you're never more than a stroll from anywhere. I would recommend it to anyone!

A terrible terrible hotel. Do not stay here. We had a room on the ground floor round the side next to the bus station - and where people walk past after the night clubs close. We spent a solid two hours from 1am lying awake listening to people fighting, shouting and being sick. Not a night a wish to pay for again. When we complained in the morning we didn't even get an apology. If you have the misfortune of staying here then at the very least check the location of your room and bring ear plugs.

Nice and clean and quite adequate for a nights stay to complete a night out.

Lots of tour groups and you can see why - the hotel is very cheap to stay in and also has free wifi and you can stay up all night in the foyer to use it if you like (it does not reach the room). Our room had a couch in it - we tried to move it so we could close the curtains (ground floor room) and it fell to pieces - the arms fell off and the back fell down (it was a sofa bed once I think).. The prints in the room had inked in glasses and that tells you the kind of guests they have there. Also someone had removed the plug on the kettle..? They also keep 4 large rubbish skips directly outside the room we stayed in - so around 4am we were rudely awaken for about 15 minutes of a grunting truck emptying multiple bins (did I say we did not pay much for the room... The radiator had a noise as if water was running through it right next to the bed - it sounded like a rushing tap. The shower had a shower screen in a narrow bath - no way of showering without it touching (not real keen on that) so we got the floor damp instead. At least it was hot. Would have preferred a glass screen. The door also did not stay on the latch if you were not careful how you closed it - walk straight out and let it close and it would not be locked... Lots of basic maintenance issues I think...

I loved the location of this hotel and the night staff were absolutely amazing and the standard of a few staff members customer service was A*. BUT..... I feel the hotel is badly in need of renovations and needs a good kick into 2012! My room itself smelt like the sewers and a few of the corridors had a horrible musty smell. We were a large party so had 4 rooms some of which were far too hot and others totally freezing. None of us actually got the rooms we booked (ie twin rooms/double rooms etc) We had to be moved more than twice! The day staff were rude and need training in customer service - they could take some tips from night staff. Check in was 3pm which for us travelling from the early hours was not good enough and relatively late compared to other hotels I have stayed in. The hotel has alot of promise due to its location and could possibly be a great hotel. I'm sure I've forgotten some details but all in all i was disappointed

The Hotel was close to all sights,but the hotel needs to be updated and the room l was in had a chair with a big crack in it and under the bed had dust on the carpet and outside my room window was the conditioning and heating boiler that went off all night which made it hard to sleep due to it being so loud. It would be a wonderful hotel after some updates and a good clean as it is central to all eating and night life.

The bed was comfortable, the room was a little bit shabby, the location was great and wouldnt have expected much more for the price that we paid.

Excellent value, clean and well resourced room, right beside lots of tourist destinations and handy for the Lanes. Have been twice, highly recommend. And Brighton has lots to see and do. Very vibrant and Bohemian.

Royal Albion Hotel is in such a great location and so close to great shopping, eating and entertainment. Its let down by a tired building, thankfully the staff made up for this. On the whole its very good value for money despite the comments

I booked the Royal Albion Hotel and was happy with the price but found the location of the room a bit like going through a labrynth but when i got to the room i was happy enough with it. The room had a bit of falling plaster but i liked the art deco style layout, at night however i never managed to get a wink of sleep due to the fact that it was very light inside the room from the lampshades outside, the constant car alarm that was going off for a majority of the evening and worse still the amount of people that were coming home from what i presume was the revenge nightclub opposite and were either talking and shouting loudly or shrieking, the curtains were not thick enough to stop the light penetrating through and the windows are many years old so no double glazing and to be honest room right by street

have stayed at the hotel before so we new it was a old hotel with squeaky floor boards but our room this time 401 was next to the air conditioning and the noise was constant all night good job we only stayed one night. the restaurant served an excellent buffet breakfast. overall i would stay again as the position in brighton is excellent.

The hotel itself is very old and tired. it is kept quite clean but is in bad need of an update to its decor. the staff were polite and we were given a room with a great view overlooking the sea. Only problems with the room was that it was very hot, and you couldnt turn the heating off, and the bathroom floor was somehow very very squeaky. that and the endless number of drunk guests coming back and making a racket at all hours made this not an ideal hotel. the breakfast was very poor quality, with little or no effort made and there were far too many people queuing up for the food - it felt like a canteen. The tea/coffee was nasty and the dining room looked and felt like a hostel. the chairs and tables were dodgy and made of plastic, very bad taste indeed and again, little/no effort there. the hotel is very cheap, and a great location, but annoyingly the hotel check out time is 10am which is really daft, and breakfast only served till 10am as well. My wife and I go to Brighton a few times a year, but we found this hotel not very relaxing for a short break and we wont be going back there.

i agree with other reviewers. This hotel is tired and dated and the customer service was quite poor. The location is excellent, right in the town centre with everything you need in walking distance. The main rooms are fine but the bedrooms were very basic and not very clean. The rooms were hot and not a 3* standard. The hotel staff were failry couteous but we felt thaat any request was a problem for them. breakfast was a fiasco with not enough seats and poor quality of food.

Firstly, the hotel has a fantastic position right across from Brighton Pier. My Room was up in the gods, but was spotlessly clean, the rooms could do with a bit of a make over, but for what I paid was adequate. The staff I encountered in the bar more than made up for the surly encounter at Reception when I checked in. All in all I would reccommend the hotel for its location, if you get a good price!

Terrible hotel... Even being on the seafront and and having prime location does not make me want to stay here again.

very pleasantly surprised because of so many negative reviews.beautiful building,in need of cosmetic work and thorough spring clean-windows etc but general cleanliness good.pristine white egyptian cotton bedlinen and towels,comfy beds.excellent buffet breakfast with attentive staff..large,spacious,comfy seaview lounge bar. enjoyed stay immensely

The hotel was OK overall. The weekend we were there the rates were very high - and for this the first room they offered had no window....The replacement room was OK, though certailnly a little spartan compared with others at such a price. Maintenance was doubtful - eg taps the moved when turned on. And the breakfast room was unbelievably hot. Breakfast quality adequate. Overall the place had an 'in need of attention' feel eg poor reception area. On the plus side the location is very good indeed. It's not that we would never stay there again- but it would not be first choice....

The choice was made on the basis of the proximity of the pier. Room was dirty, hair in the sink, bath tub hadn't been cleaned properly. Windows could not be opened and where very dirty, including more bird crap that it wasn't possible to have a nice view to the pier. Noisy at night as there was a night club in the next house, 2 floors down (even though we had "double glazing". Breakfast quality was an absolute joke - dont even try that! And this all as part of the superior room - I don't even want to know how the normal rooms look like!

My room was nice and clean at a good price. The location could n't be better right by the beach by the brighton pier.

Room was basic,clean and functioning but badly needs a revamp as room was stuffy and very clamy even with window fully open. No AC .A sleep in was not an option due to road traffic...Breakfast was poor to average. Having said that I got a v cheap rate so was not expecting anything major....

The hotel is right on the seafront and really convenient for all the Brighton sights. Parking is not great outside the hotel, but there are residential streets near which you can park in. The quality and comfort of the hotel are fine, although it could do with a little cosmetic spruce up to bring it into the 21st century. My main gripe would be the quality of the hotel service, which while not rude, gave you the impression that you were an inconvenience to their day. The welcome at reception was not warm and the service at breakfast made you feel a little like you were on a conveyor belt. No sooner had you put your last mouthful of food in your mouth than your plate was whisked away from underneath your nose. It did feel quite rushed. That all said, the food was generally of high quality and we really enjoyed our stay.

breakfast was hearty and complimentary. Unfortunately the rooms were in need of major make-over and were musty smelling.

I stayed in the hotel for 2 night , when booking I went for the Delux Room , with jacuzi bath and view , the room I was given had the bath but the view was of the service duct in the centre of the hotel . The Air conditioning throughout the hotel was not working and as it was extremely hot in the room I asked to change rooms on the Sunday which the hotel staff delt with very well , but the room they gave mead a view of the sea but without the jacuzi bath . The cleanliness of the room were a lot to be desired , felt like they had just wiped over with a cloth rather than cleaning . I would not stay in this Hotel again.

What you pay for is what you get. Hotel is fine, maybe needs a refurb but its clean. We were given a basement room - no natural light, and the bathroom was a bit musty, however i cant fault cleanliness. If your going away for a couple of days, want somewhere cheap and nearby its brilliant. V. close to oceana and the other clubs. Hotel lies opposite the pier and 5 mins from the lanes. If your truly fussy, or looking for luxury - dont bother.

Really disappointed with the first room offered. It was supposed to be a superior room, room was musty, decor manky and windows could not be opened. When I complained an alternative room was offered which was marginally better. As it was just q one night stay I accepted it rather than phaff around looking for another hotel etc. Great location but that was it!

Lovely customer service. However room that I was allocated, was a bit worn and needed a bit of attention. The floorboards in the bathroom were bowing up, which meant it was difficult to close the door at times. The lock on the bathroom door was also missing a few screws, so was tricky to lock. The duvet cover had a few little holes at the top, but the bed was comfortable. Overall, the service both at reception, at the bar and in the dining room was good. Just a bit of attention needed on the rooms, cleanliness and maintenance.

The best thing about this hotel was the highly entertaining and polyglot bar man. Everything else was of a pretty low standard, my room was underground and the signs did not point to it! I had to ask three times for an iron, it only appearing late in the afternoon, long after I'd needed it. I rang reception repeatedly, but there was no answer. Not recommended for business travellers.
