The Scotsman Hotel - إدنبرة

This is a very charming hotel in an excellent location. Our room had beautiful large windows. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We were even given complimentary water every day and wifi. I would recommend this hotel and I will definitely stay here when I return to edinburgh.

Incredible location at Market Street and North Bridge,One block from the Royal Mile and across the street from the Waverley Train Station and a block and a half from the # 100 Airport bus terminal(bus leaves every 10 minutes). You can easily walk to many of the Edinburgh sites. It is in an old but cool building next to a very steep hill so the layout is confusing. The lobby is on the 4th floor off North Bridge Street. If you are coming from the airport bus or train station there is a buzzer on Market Street on the 0 floor. They will let you in so you can take the lift up to the 4th floor.

Picked hotel for location. Staff could not have been nicer, service is excellent. Also picked hotel so myself and daughter could go swimming but pool was FREEZING. Everyone was complaining. Room nice but mattress was so uncomfortable that I could barely sleep. Creaky old, ancient bed. For this reason, I would never stay again.

While I am the type to be a little uncomfortable with doors being opened for me, the use of my last name when being addressed, and having towels only used once, this level of service was performed with style and grace such that you felt they were genuine and sincere. From check-in, questions unrelated to the hotel, all the way through check-out, the staff were at 212 degrees! (a wonderful customer service book!) Incredible building, close to everything you would want to see.

Dreadful! Heavy base-pounding techno "disco" music permeated our room until 3:00 am, allowing us no sleep. All staff, including the general manager, deny the existence of this loud, pounding music, despite two Edinburgh police constables confirming a nightclub is situated on the ground floor of the hotel building. The staff refer to the pounding music as "city noise". In addition, the hotel's housekeeping staff appeared to be either slow or understaffed. We were unable to enjoy an afternoon nap at the Scotsman after being out for over four hours since our room was not made up until close to 4:00 pm. Really disappointed in this hotel.

We decided at the last minute to take the kids to Edinburgh for a couple of days. What a good decision it was and to book the Scotsman. Quirky but excellent rooms, check in took all of 60 seconds. In a superb location and terrific views from the excellently presented rooms. We asked for a double and a twin near each other and considering this was last minute, the hotel arranged this for us. Whilst the pool is not Olympic size it is more than adequate plus the steam room and sauna are a bonus. ALL staff, whatever their position were extremely polite, helpful & friendly. Would we stay there again ? Yes

Spend the extra $$ for this hotel. Top notch location and service! Nice sample of whiskey in your room when you arrive! 1 of best i've stayed in and travel 150-200 days a year

We have just stayed at the Scotsman for the fourth time and, once again, have had a wonderful stay. The whole hotel ouzes charm and character and the staff are, on the whole, welcoming, competent and helpful. Every room is completely different, with change of view, layout, amenities, but all with great atmosphere and character. Silly little niggle, this time there was a lack of both pen and notepad in our room, an oversight that shouldn't occur in an hotel of this calibre. The location is brilliant for walking to almost anywhere in the city and the public car parking charges are reduced by the hotel (pity that the spaces closer to the hotel are no longer available, it makes for more of a hike!). Breakfast is terrific, and the North Bridge Brasserie, within the hotel, looks good for other meals, we have only had tea there.

On the whole great - very friendly staff and fantastic location.

A lovely old hotel with charm. Staff was very helpful and pleasant. The gym was a little difficult to locate. . . Could use better directions or signage.

The hotel surpassed our expectations.Accommodation was excellent and food was exceptional but what made our visit so wonderful was the service and courtesy we received from the staff both in the restaurant and at reception.A special thank you to Emma who was so helpful and thoughtful .Will return hopefully soon.

Great location and lovely hotel. Stayed in room 306. Right under the restaurant and next door to the kitchen. Noise all evening and in the morning. Ridiculous.

Everything about the Scotsman was terrific. The room was wonderful and the staff above all was incredible. Would not stay any other place in Edinburgh.

Wonderful hotel in the best location. Excellent staff and service.

Would stay at the Scotsman again. It is attached to a public fitness center, so it was one of the best hotel gyms.

The hotel was wonderful, the pool is amazing! The staff were very attentive and helpful And upgraded our room without us even asking! We will definitely be back in the near future!

Good hotel, well located but the room was very small and the temperature control was difficult. We fluctuated from hot to cold.

If you want a classic hotel in the centre of Edinburgh then this is the one.

Nice public space and good staff. Rooms are a bit hit and miss though. The room I had was small and too hot.

We were treated very well at the Judd Hotel. The room was beautiful, the service exquisite. It was very well located, just above the train station, on the Royal Mile.

Third visit to this hotel at this time of year. Location is ideal for shopping, visiting tourist attractions and restaurants. Staff as always, very courteous and helpful. Would recommend this hotel to other visitors to Edinburgh. Only downfall on this occasion was the bed which although comfortable, was a zip and link kingsize and where the beds joined, there was a dip as sitting at different levels which made it quite uncomfortable if you moved to centre of bed. Other than that everything else up to the usual high standard.

Our stay was exceptional, beautiful hotel, perfect location on the royal mile. Customer service and staff was the best we have ever seen. Thank you.

Absolutely central location across from train station and around corner from shuttle bus to airport which is great bargain. Everything is within short walking distance. Very nice inside and good restaurant for breakfast.

Excellent hotel

We had a warm welcome from reception staff who took our bags to the room. Great location and lovely swimming pool. My only criticism would be that there was a damp smell within the hotel, though not in our room. Overall a wonderful stay.

An amazing weekend. The staff here were very, very impressive. Really knowledge about even the smallest of details - like which number bus to catch and how much it would cost etc. I found everyone I had contact with to be incredibly polite, approachable and friendly. I would stay here again purely based on the service I received. Of course the fact it is so close to Waverly Station / the Airlink bus stop / Princess Street and the start of the Royal Mile all add to the overall positive experience. Top notch and top of my list to stay at next time I'm in Edinburgh.

nice room with excellent bathroom and entertainment equipment

Great staff, great food and excellent service. They couldn't have been more helpful!

Stayed seven nights on our Honeymoon trip. Hotel was central to everything, and the Concierges 'The Boys' answered our every request with speed and enthusiasm. As one might expect in a Historical building the plumbing was a bit erratic, but the room was lovely and the bed and linens were super luxurious and cozy. Free snacks and Hot beverages in the room as well as a full honor bar and luxurious toiletries. GINORMOUS snuggly towels as well. Front-facing room was a bit noisy from Waverly Station and New-Town weekend Partiers, but the view was well worth it. Would recommend Highly. P.S. Wi-Fi is free but weak and slow so don't bother logging in.

The staff were friendly and helpful but this hotel has little else to encourage me to return. small double bed a bit on the firm side. pillows unsupportive, fridge was stocked with overpriced beverages and did not seem to work anyway. entrance is though a side door into a much too small lobby and reception area. Lifts slow. breakfast poor, bread offerings dreadful. room far to warm, lighting is complex in the room and has inaccessible sockets for chargers etc. WFI worked fine however. Not 5 star in my opinion. this hotel is a poor conversion of what must have been a fine old building and office for The Scotsman newspaper. On the positive side, the hotel's location is convenient for Princes street, most tourist attractions and the National Museum of Scotland which is superb.

Beautiful hotel & rooms. Great location. But...lighting very poor in room & bathroom. No lighted make-up mirror. No towel racks. TP holder in awkward place. Tiny closet - had to take out hangars to fit the few things we were able to hang up but the bar was big and bountiful. Staff very nice & helpful. The city is definitely worth visiting.

On arrival at the Scotsman I was told I would be upgraded to a suite. This was a large room with four windows overlooking Waverly Staion toward the New Town. The view was stunning day or night. Service throughout was excellent with pleasant and welcomng staff. Great bar staff.

Hotel is in a great location. Public areas are great but my room was very noisy and the mattress was awful . Pool is very good as well.

The room I was in NOT very good in comparing with my friends. TV was located in a awkward cupboard.. access was difficult. However free wifi was good.

When reviewing a hotel as terrific as The Scotsman is, the tendency is to pick out a tiny flaw or a minor inconvenience to provide some focal point for your review. Here, it's difficult. I agree with other reviewers that there is a slight issue with sound proofing - the hotel is located in a somewhat exposed spot, so there is some wind noise, train noise and local club noise - but we were staying there during Freshers week! We stayed in a deluxe room, which is second-bottom in terms of the grade of rooms on offer. It certainly didn't feel like second-bottom - the standard of room was outstanding - there were many extras too - the monopoly board coffee table is a nice touch, although we didnt get the chance to play it. The staff were excellent - courteous and attentive, without a hint of the disingenuity you get in some places. Overall, we wouldn't hesitate to stay again. In terms of location and the accommodation The Scotsman could well be, dare I say, perfect?

Easy walking to Castle & other sites, restaurants, local shops & bars. Service was excellent.
