The Donatello Hotel - سان فرانسيسكو

Readers Digest version...the hotel is under renovation some (the rooms are huge and clean) but the key to my room didn't work and I had to go downstairs twice to try and resolve. I asked for a quiet room and was put at the end of the hall which was great except for the maid service doing laundry in the conference room next to mine. Thought it was construction still going on at midnight and called the Front Desk to say something...the noise from the maids didn't stop despite security being sent up to check out my complaint. And finally...my room shared a balcony that someone could have easily peeked in...creepy.

The Donatello offers a comfortable room with refrigerator and microwave in a very central location close to Union Square, BART, shopping, theatre and so on. The neighborhood is somewhat like Times Square--full of tourists and..."street life".

It was wonderful. staff could not have been more helpful. Only two small issues: no safe in room and our room was across from the elevator which made it noisy. Other than that I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Excellent hotel! Staff, room, club, personal turn down service with chocolate left on pillow, lovely touch. Was the best hotel for staff and service that I staying in across California. A credit.

Stayed three nights after five different locations and hotels, LA, Vegas, Cambria, Monterey and Donatello was the BEST!! Great rooms, reception, staff(all included, reception, valet, concierge, housekeepers all wonderful, best in USA) location. The bed turn down service with a chocolate laid out every night. The rood top club room with gym and lounge with complimentary hot drinks, what can I say?!? It was just a perfect ending to an already amazing holiday. Thanks Donatello and staff :) :)

Hotel is still undergoing maintenance. Hotel room was nicely renovated. Room still had a faint new carpet smell. Bathroom still needs some work done. The TV in the bathroom mirror is a great feature. Bathtub, toilet looks like it needs to be replaced or bleached. Tiles probably need replacing too. Bathroom has a string clothes line which is convenient for doing small amounts of laundry. Bedroom was extremely spacious. Bed was very comfortable. Could not find a safe in the room though. Coffee and tea were provided in room and so is a fridge. Hotel room was cleaned well everyday. Room is relatively quiet except for Saturday night if you're in a room situated close to the night club close by. The noise won't affect you too much if you're not a light sleeper. If you're a late waker your sleep will br interrupted by rennovation noise on the weekdays after 8am. Small amount of noise can be heard if situated close to elevators from other guests. Concierge, front desk and bell boy were efficient and friendly. Do not expect immediate service from bellboy if you're coming by shuttle as front entrance does not face the street. If you need an umbrella borrow one from the bellboy. Location is very close to union square where many shops are. It's also a walkable distance to Muni their transport system. China town is also about a 10-15 minute walk. There's a cafe and crapery just up the road if you're on a budget for food. Overall my stay here was very comfortable. If the price does not increase too much the next time I visit San Francisco I would definitely stay here again.

The website leads one to believe the remodeling of the hotel is complete but nothing could be further from the truth. In addition, the freight elevator was inoperable during the 5 days we were there and one of the 2 remaining elevators was reserved for construction people. That meant lots of waiting or walking up and down stairs. We arrived several hours before check-in time and I requested an upper level room for check-in later in the day. I was assured one would be set aside for me. I don't consider the 7th floor of a 14 floor hotel an upper level. They probably didn't honor my request because we refused to attend the 90-minute timeshare presenation during our stay. In addition, construction was on the 6th floor, one floor below us, and we heard a lot of it. I asked what the working hours were of the construction crew and was told it was 9-6. Another lie! They started before 9 each morning we were there. Customer satisfaction seems to be a low priority in this hotel. It is in a convenient location, however, and the price was good. Not sure if I'd stay again with all the other options in SF.

Great Union Square location. Room had just been upgraded with very comfortable bed and space-age television inset into the mirror in the bathroom. Very comfortable and spacious. Some construction currently going on which takes one elevator out or service, so sometimes longish waits for the elevator. We stay in S.F. frequently and will definitely stay here again.

Compared to the big name international hotels, the Donatello is more comfortable and the staff more personable. Compared to the boutique hotels, it is more modern and more comfortable. There are places that are cheaper, but they are older, smaller and colder. I am a Californian that lives approximately 150 miles from San Francisco. When I come to the City, which is often, I try to stay at the Donatello. It is a block from Union Square, and near many very good eateries. If I need to go further than walking distance, I take a taxi which is always available.

Large, well-maintained rooms. Good plumbing. Very clean. Gracious staff. We had cocktails on the second floor lounge. We really enjoyed the live jazz singer with her accompanists.

I like to stay at the Donatello whenever I go to SF. It is clean, friendly, convenient and I feel safe. Everyone is very friendly.

This is my 2nd stay here, and I will always plan on making The Donatello my home while in San Francisco! All hotel services were perfect, from check in to check out. Can't say enough about how much I enjoy staying at this perfectly located hotel. Easy walking distance to cable cars, buses, fantastic shopping around Union Square, and surrounded by restaurants galore. Dinner at Zingari was excellent. Highly recommended.

My partner turned 50 last weekend and a trip to SF was in order. We knew we wanted to be near Union Sq. but felt we did not want to spend every dime on our hotel room. The Donatella fit the bill. It's rate was less than the average for the other area rooms but that was not it's forte. Wow, a huge clean room that was quiet and comfortable certainly was! Our room was ready early and we got a late check out. The hotel was full but they somehow were able to accommodate our needs. The staff, bellman and concierge were all pleasant and helpful. A block from Union Sq., a good price and a great nights sleep, what more do you want from a hotel room?!?!

Was looking for a hotel that had queen or king beds plus another bed for my two kids. The Donatello was perfect for our family of four. It was spacious and located right in Union Square. It wasn't too noisy. I just requested to be on a higher level floor (8th) away from the street. It had a mini fridge, microwave and dishware for our use. The parking was pricey but that's SF for you. You do get to have in and out privileges.Will definitely go back whenever we need to stay in the City.

A Hotel that is conveniently situated with all transportation at your doorstep. Rooms very comfortable, with mini kitchen facility making the stay very convenient. Friendly staff prepared to go the extra mile to help you. The only drawback is the noise from vehicles and people on the street that seems to go into the early parts of the morning, but would still stay at your hotel for all the other benefits.

I chose this hotel for its proximity to an account I was visiting. My only gripe was about the quality of the food in the restaurant...kind of bland and not the most comfortable setting or knock your socks off service. Overall, though, my room was quiet and very comfortable. And they had a kitchenette in the spacious room.

Love the hotel close to everything. it's an older hotel but lovely huge rooms.

The service was amazing and the location is perfect! A perfect gem in the heart of the theater district within walking distance to Union Square.

This hotel was in a great location for getting to Union square as it was only a couple if blocks walk and from there you can get to most places. Be warned it is downtown so can be noisey with plenty of fire trucks during our stay and a few night spots cranking until the early hours of the morning but nothing you wouldn't expect from this sort of location. Overall a great hotel and if we are ever lucky enough to get back to San Fran we'd stay here again.

This boutique hotel is very well run. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was large and well decorated in contemporary style. The restaurant was good -- a little expensive but it had live jazz. The only drawback was the "high speed" wi-fi...it was really slow and time-consuming to get it even to the screen where you have to Accept the terms & conditions.

Stayed here as an alternative to the suggested more pricey hotels for a conference. Was a 15 minute walk to the convention center through nice neighborhoods. Close to Union Square and connections to public transport for easy access to Fisherman's wharf.

I enjoyed the Donetello for its comfort and location. By SF standards it's good value. The "kitchenette" (really no more than a microwave, refridgerator and tiny sink) and handy -- should be standard in more hotels for travellers sikc of contantly eating out.

The room is at least twice the size of similar price hotels in the area. There's a frig, microwave and some kitchen utensils, which gave us a chance to re-enjoy some remains of the wonderful dinners in the area. Everything looked recently renovated. Actually, please ignore this. I want there to be some rooms available when I'm next in town.

Our first room had no working airconditionong so we were moved. The second room had air, but smelled in the bathroom area like urine.

This hotel was very well situated to all part of the city, the staff were very helpful and although a little tired of the furnishings it is still a beautiful hotel. Would recommend this to anyone.

Right on Union Square this is the perfect location. The hotel was welcoming and clean but the rooms looked a little tired. Great meal in hotel restaurant, nice bar with entertainment.

Had a great 4 nights stay here in September. The reception staff are very welcoming and helpful. The hotel is clean and well equipped and the beds are extremely comfortable. We noticed a bit of noise outside on the first night, but not too bad and we'd have probably slept through it was it not for the jetlag. Would definitely stay here again if visiting San Francisco.

I just returned from staying at the Donatello. I was very impressed with the location, cleanliness , polite staff and the price. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again

I have stayed in many of the larger hotels around Union Square and found the Donatello a great alternative. The room was spacious with a microwave, refrig, eating utensils and glassware. The bar was delightful with different entertainment each night. We did not eat in the dining room, but we did go to a happy hour on Friday where wine, cheese and fruit was served. The front desk was very helpful for restaurant reservations and directions to AT&T Park. We really enjoyed our stay and loved that it was so close to Union Square and great shopping.

This hotel was great. The location was fabulous and put us within easy public transport of almost everywhere we wanted to go. The room was super clean and the staff was unbelievably friendly and helpful. Also, the room was fairly spacious with an entry way alcove with closet where we could keep our clothes out of the way. Finally, the dinette really helped out with snacks and many breakfasts.

The furnishings are looking a little tired but for the money and the location I would definitely book it again. It was fine for my tastes but I'm not sure I would tell my pickier friend about it. It was also very quiet and the bed comfortable. The lounge was a great place to have a drink after dinner and listen to a Frank Sinatra crooner

My girlfriends and I planned to see Billy Eliot in SF and decided to make a day & night of it. It is hard to find accommodations for 3, but the Donatello had a beautiful room with king bed and sofa sleeper and a large bathroom. We were in close proximity to the theater, restaurants, and shopping. We had a wonderful visit to SF. The Donatello also has a great happy hour!!!

This hotel had great service and is in a good location for tourists near Union Square. It's an older luxury style hotel but has been well maintained and is very clean. Best of all it was great value for money.

I like this hotel. It is one of my favorites and I bought timeshare there after this stay.

The Donatello is in a perfect location just off Union Square. The rooms are large, bright and welcoming. It is close to all the shopping and also close to the Tram stops. The small kitchen area is ideal for breakfast or snacks. The bed was very large and comfortable. There are hire car units only a block away so everything you need is there. I would recommend this hotel to all who visit the fantastic city os San Francisco.

Stayed 4 nights, rented 3 hotels rooms for family members. A very positive experience for all of us - the staff was very friendly and accommodating, the location was within easy walking distance of Union Square, Chinatown, Westfield Shopping Centre, and many great restaurants. Enjoyed the jazz at the Zingari Ristorante on the 2nd floor. The room was large (for San Francisco) with a king size bed and pull-out sofa. Called the hotel a few days early to get advice about transportation and Joe arranged transportation with Manuel for rides from and back to the airport. Manuel was great - very prompt and he even picked us up the next morning to take us to our tour meeting place! The only negative thing was that our 6th floor room overlooked a patio area, where a loud party was held til the early morning hours one night, and several other nights there were loud smaller gatherings.

We were pleasantly surprised by the size of our room and location of this hotel. Our room was so nice, comfortable, and spacious! Hot tub, sauna, and gym upstairs. Great location for Bay to Breakers! Would definately stay there again!

The front desk staff are great, know their rooms really well. The girl asked us if we would mind waiting half an hour to put us in a room with more space (as there was 3 of us travelling). The rooms were clean, extremely spacious and had an additional sink/bar space with was handy. Unfortunately the concierge staff were not as up to the task as we would have expected in a hotel of this calibre. One of them gave us completely incorrect information, and another one spent so long chatting with other guests (twice) that we had to leave without the information we required.

This hotel was idealy situated to Union Square, restuarants and transport. We had room service for breakfast and it was excellent. The Club Donatello on the top floor was ideal for relaxing after a day's sightseeing with tea, coffee etc provided free of charge. The concierge was extremly helpfull. This hotel lived up to all my expectations and I would stay there again if visiting SF

Hotel was close to Union Square and cable cars, lots of shopping and restaurants. Hotel staff was excellent!!! Hotel was very clean and polished, room was very clean and comfortable! The only downfall was that the corner that the hotel sits on was a bit noisy.
