Good Spot. Rooftop gives fantastic views

Excellent breakfast, comfortable but basic room, not so excellent wi-fi: advertised as free, but only free if you want snail-mail speed, otherwise you pay 18R$ a day

Orla Hotel is conveniently located and the staff are helpful with restaurant recommendations. The breakfast is basic but filling. The rooms are basic and the pool on the roof is very tiny. If you are looking for no frills and conveniance then this is the place to stay.

Very small room...made worse by 3 single beds instead of just 2 normal single beds as requested. Ad photos deceptive showing rooftop pool...pool is only 10 feet X 10 feet, usually murky & not accessible on 2 of the 4 sides. Barely room for chairs & tables around pool...we had to walk OVER people to get around. Maid service not consistent...3 out of 6 days, we left for 4 or 5 hours, returned to an uncleaned room. Bathroom extremely small...blowdryer old with exposed electrical wires and rotting door frame. MOST DEFINATELY NOT 4-star.

Location is fantastic, and the staf very helpfull, but that is pretty much it. Horrable old pillows, bad mattress, small rooms, not even drawers in a superior room I cant imagine a regular room.....

overpriced for what it is. Location is nice but dangerous. A couple of guys tried to rob me 2 blocks away on atlantic avenue at 8pm, 20 meters from a police car. pool is a postage stamp. service at hotel was spotty...

The hotel is in an ideal location, right across from the beach. Staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms however were smaller than showed on any pictures. A continental breakfast is available and was good. We joined up for a tour and saw all the attractions. Prices in Rio are expensive, but everybody should see it.

I enjoyed my stay, Copacabana is not for everyone but this hotel also has easy access to Ipanema. Nice facilities, the pool/rooftop area is very nice and even the gym, although small is good for a hotel. Highly recommend.

Great little hotel right opposite the beach. It has a brilliant roof terrace with great views of sugar loaf and the beach. The staff were friendly and the breakfast brilliant. The rooms are quite small but to be expected in rio.

The hotel frontage is relatively narrow but this hotel does look out onto Copacabana beach and as such is definitely convenient. There are bars and restaurants nearby as one would expect. Most of the rooms however seem to have smallish windows looking to the side without sea view so if you definitely want a sea view then you will need to pay for it and book those rooms! The hotel itself is reasonably clean and apparently 'quite okay' for the area. I felt my room, although I paid extra for 'Superior', was on the small side (I still wonder what I got extra for my money but there is not much of a definition available), the bathroom was 'okay', the bed reasonably comfy etc. Just nothing to write home about. The aircon unit, although efficient, was very loud and I turned this off to sleep and to take business calls! Breakfast is a continental style buffet, again 'okay'. As for the wi-fi, note that the 'free' or inclusive wi-fi advertised relates to 'slow' wi-fi (dial-up speed!), if you want reasonable wi-fi there is a charge of around $9/day. If I need to go back, this was my first trip to the area, I may well try elsewhere before booking here again. One further thing, if you require internet access on your last day, note that the hotel wi-fi only works if you have a room number so your access is lost at check-out, there is no facility to pay with a credit card for example.

This hotel is most definitely not a four star...but thinks it is with a fancy entrance hall and reception. Rooms are dark, not very well equipped with noisy air conditioning and patchy wi-fi. Apart from reception no one speaks a word of english...ordering room service was comical.They also charge for the wi-fi unless you want the free service which is about as fast as the old dial up. Very disappointed with the hotel given its four stars.

Certainly the rooms are small: but it's Rio and one is hardly pressed for a reason to go out. Professional staff are alert to provide advice and assitance at any time. Breakfast is superior to the 4 other South American facilities at which we stayed in the recent weeks. Location is as good as it gets, and even the bars on the beach are better in front of this hotel than elsewhere on Copacobana.

The service was not very good. Internet was not available for two days.

Poor condition. The air-conditioner is very noisy. Compared with comfort, the price is extremely high.

This was my second visit to the Orla and I found that not much had changed from my first visit in June 2010. The location is very convenient to Ipanema and Copacabana. The staff is very helpful and even the bellhops speak english, making it very convenient.

Unless you pay for most expensive option don't even hope for ocean view. reception staff seams to be judging guest by appearance so if you don't look like million dollars don't expect smile or staf going extra mile for you. Our flight to Rio turned out nightmare. We arrived at Orla 35 hours late, tired and hungry. Although we paid in advance for the stay and arrived 20 mins after breakfast was finished receptionist and person who looked like general manager didnt even consider our request to have sandwich fixed for us. Btw. Photo of the roof swimming poole was nicely taken. What you see is what you get. Literally! Except location I would not recommend this place to a friend.

First time in Brazil and at Carnival and don't speak Portugese. The rate is higher during Carnival (as expected) but great experience! Hotel staff super helpful, friendly and understood English well. My breakfast favorites were fresh bread and fruit. We at dinner at the restaurant a couple times and little pricier that outside but nice and quiet atmosphere and service. Several per kilo (by weight) buffets in walking distance. No view from room window but slept mostly in the day time because of Carnival events. Beach right across the street! Small pool on roof and great view of Copacabana Beach! Close to Metro, Ipanema, markets and 24 hour food places. We changed dollars to Reals at the front desk, but there were some banks close by too. I felt safe because they had extra guys in the lobby checking that people were hotel guests. Pay extra 5 Real per day for using the safe and Bellhop has to unlock it. Bell hop was helpful in finding a cab big enough for our carnaval costumes! Remember to tip everyone helpful. I would visit Brazil, Carnival and this hotel again =)

As you walk in you think it's a relatively fancy/good hotel and The hotel staff think it's a very fancy hotel and give you so much attitude! Very bad Service from the receptionists! and then our room was just awful! so dark and whole day we could smell neighbors fish cooking. The room was so tiny you couldn't move and we were supposed to have ocean side view but as many sides I could turn my neck I didn't see any ocean!!! the bathroom is very dark and very dirty! I found hair on the shower wall, on my towel and on my pillow. It was just disgusting! Thank god we were only staying one night here!

Aircondition was so noisy that it was difficult to sleep, without turning it of.

Front desk was extremely helpful. All employees fluent in multiple languages. Location is ideal: directly on beach, reasonably close to tourist attractions and other beaches.

This hotel sucks. It was like staying in a hostel

Staff was rude. They push tours. TV did not work the entire time. Bed was horribly uncomfortable. Asked for taxi to Christ the Redeemer, staff said flat rate would be best. Paid flat rate of 35R. on way back from statue, paid taxi on meter and got back for 17R. Breakfast was good. Location is good. If you do not pay for ocean view, your window faces a brick wall.

Maybe it was that we were American, or that we walked in with backpacks instead of expensive suitcases, but for whatever reason, the staff at Orla Copacabana treated us without a shred of respect. They were consistently rude, not helpful at all if we had questions, and seemed to enjoy talking down to us. There are too many insults to list in this review, but some of the more egregious acts include: 1) 2 of our friends arrived early, but since the reservation wasn't under their name, they had to wait in the lobby for me to check in. In the meantime, they wanted to use the hotel's wi-fi, but the staff refused, and even yelled at them when they asked more than once. 2) More on the wi-fi...in order to access it, you have to login and then select what type of wi-fi you want. There is a free option and then one that costs money (why there is an option that costs money escapes me), and these buttons are right next to each other on the login screen. One of my friends accidently pushed the button for the non-free option, and immediately realizing her mistake, went to the front desk to ask that she not be charged. The staff, of course, refused, stating that it was out of their hands because the third party internet provider does not understand that buttons can sometimes be mistakenly pushed. My friend would have to pay the fee and there was nothing to be done. That in itself is ridiculous, but to make matters worse, when I checked out I also had the internet charge on my bill even though I definitely never pressed the pay-for-internet button. I refused flat out to pay for that charge, and the clerk at that time said ok. So clearly, the hotel could forgive a mistake with the wi-fi but just chose to give my friend a hard time 3) The best part of this hotel is a pretty decent buffet breakfast, however, you feel like you are in jail while you eat. Overall I was very happy with this hotel. The staff was great and the morning breakfast included with the stay was fantastic. I also loved the little rooftop pool. My only complaint is that I had booked a room with a Queen size bed and when I go there the room had two twin beds. When I went down to the front desk to complain I was told that all rooms only have twin beds and to make the bed a queen they just push the beds together. I really doubt this is true but at that point I didn't argue because I was exhausted for a day of travel and just wanted to be settled.

Orla Copacabana Hotel was great! It was our first time in Rio and in this hotel and I honestly have no complaints. Gustavo, one of the hotel's staff was very friendly and gave us tons of information about tours in Rio. Copacabana Beach is right in front of the hotel, Ipanema beach (my favorite) is approximately 10 minutes away walking distance. Our room was very clean but kind of small, which was not a big deal anyway because we were always out. The pool on the last floor of the hotel is also very small, but the view from up there is incredible! You would be able to see the entire Copacabana beach, the Favela on the left hand side and the sugar loaf. If you go to Rio please visit Christ the Reedemer, the Sugar Loaf, a restaurant called Garota de Ipanema which means woman of Ipanema, and the Cathedral of San Sebastian, these places are incredible! The hotel staff is willing to give you information about tours to these places for a very cheap price! You must have a few Caipirinhas (brazilian drink) which are sold across the street from the hotel. There are restaurants very close by the hotel that sell delicious brazilian food and drinks as well! There are also Feirias which are outside small shops where people can buy things to bring back home, these are very popular in Rio. My boyfriend and I had a great time at Rio and would definitely visit again! Obrigado Brazil!!

I booked several hotels to stay at while in Rio and the Orla hotel was the best location. It was on Copacabana Beach which gave access to the shops and Atlantic Avenue and was also a few blocks from the better Ipanema Beach!!! You can also walk to the Lagoon (Largo de Freitas) from Ipanema Beach and enjoy a bike ride, walk, run or stroll along the circumference of the Lagoon which is approximately 8 km. From the Lagoon, you can see Christ the Redeemer and also have coconut stands and other venues. The staff at the hotel was very friendly and accommodating. They let me check in early and also let me check out a little late since I was going on a tour the day I checked out. I plan on going back very soon and this time will stay at Orla for the duration of my trip.

The staff was very helpful; they let us do an early check in, booked taxis and tours. We didn't have problems with overcharging like others did -- the prices for taxi rides from and to the airport are fixed, and you should ask beforehand. You can also arrange with the driver to come back and pick you up for another ride, and he will most likely give you a discount if you ask for one. The city tour offered by the hotel was very worthwhile - we were in town only for one day and got to see all the major attractions in one afternoon. The hotel room was small for American standards, but we didn't really need more space. We were there only for the showers and the bed, and those worked fine. There is a safe deposit box in the room, and for a small fee we could store our laptop and a bunch of other valuables. The free wireless worked fine, and we could even make skype calls. We would stay there again.

The location is very good and you could have your swimming suit on in the room and walk to Copacabana Beach immediately in front and walk 10 min to Ipanema. The pool at the roof floor is cool that you can have a paranormic view of the bay at day, and a glimpse of the Cristo Redentor to decide whether it s a good day to go there. Besides, it s easy to take buses at the Av. Copacabana where there are buses to the Cristo Redentor and Sugarloaf Mountain.

Glad we chose this hotel.The hotels in Rio are very expensive, so what Orla offers seems to be a really good deal. it's in a great location on Copacabana beach with Ipanema withinin 100m. In the evening, there is a souvenir market on the beach front. The airport shuttle bus stops near by, close to local bus stops and the metro station is within a walkable distance. In addition, the real charm of this hotel is the friendly reception staff, who all speak good English. They let me check in early and sorted out my Brazilian sim card. On our last night they recommended a nice local restaurant with free caipirinha voucher! The only down side of this hotel is the roof top pool, which is small and unattractive. However, you are right in front of the beach! Enjoy your stay!

Finding a decent hotel in Rio directly on the beachfront that is not aged or overpriced is quite a challenge, but the Orla met all our expectations. Staff was friendly, breakfast good, room large, modern and clean, and it had a great view from the roof terrace. Especially the location right between Copacabana and Ipanema is a big plus.

A small hotel on Copacabana Beach and only a short distacnc from Ipanema Beach. Good location with Metro stop nearby. Swimming pool is on the roof and very small. View from the roof is magnificent. You can order drinks and watch the sunset. Breakfast buffet is very nice with many choices. Rooms are very small, but clean and comfortable. I would stay here again.

I felt my was adequate size for one person. The staff was very courteous and helpful particular at the desk. The room was clean and you definately felt safe. It's location was great in that you step outside right onto Avenida Atlantica in Copa and except for the one other hotel on the strip, its the closet to Ipanema. Breakfast in the morning had a decent selection of food and although the dining room is a little cramped but again, a small concern. I recommend it and might be staying there again, should I be able to secure a reservation during Carnivale next year. I had a pleasant stay.

Great Service! Best Location! I'm used to travel to Rio a lot in the last 40 years and this small hotel has it all. Will be my address in Rio for the years to come.

Excellent position but the pool was tiny. Dont take the organised tour to the Christ the Redeemer statue at $120 each. Take a 583 local bus at £1.00 each to the base station and get a ticket for £20.00 to get to the top including the mini bus rides. Breakfast was quite good but a small room for so many people.

The Orla Hotel is right on the Copa beach, all the action and with an incomparable setting.

Excelente ubicacion, cerca de todo lo que el turista necesita,buena atencion y buen desayuno el staff muy pendiente de hacerte sentir bien, el bano y las toallas requieren una mejoria. es una muy buena elecicion para unos dias de playa y vacaciones,Copacabana a 25 pasos e Ipanema a 5 minutos caminado, buena seguridad de dia y de noche.
