Hotel is at good location. Room is very clean apart from the corners of the shower room which you can see black mould. It would be nice if the hotel can fit a small fridge as most of the hotels do.

We had a beautiful view of the castle while eating breakfast in their 5th floor restaurant. Our only complaint was that the room was stiflingly hot and had no outside window. 2 small table top fans were in the room and we kept them on high all night to make the temperature bearable.

Excellent location about 1/2 mile off the Royal Mile. Really nice, clean room that was well stocked with all the usual (toiletries, towels etc). Ask for a castle view room if available, what a sight to wake up to! Lots of food options nearby, but if you are tired after a long day of walking and seeing the sites I can definitely recommend room service! Pool was fine, somewhat small and the changing rooms leave a bit to be desired but overall I would absolutely recommend this hotel for your stay in Edinburgh!

Nice hotel, lovely rooms, very friendly helpful staff however not very suitable for the elderly or wheelchair bound as access is limited. Front entrance not easily accessible as there are steps to the reception but no stair lift . To gain access there is ramp to the rear of the Hotel which takes you to the lift area to get to the rooms. Bar area and main restaurant not accessible either as there are more steps and no lift ! And the only public toilets for restaurant and bar and reception are down 2 flights of stairs in the basement. To advertise this Hotel as having disabled access is not fully compliant and poses as a health and safety risk.

After driving 300 miles for a romantic break for my wife's birthday for her to get food poisoning from what we think was one of the local restaurants and then have to spend 99% of the trip in the hotel was a complete nightmare for us. The hotel was great though shame that the whole trip ended up being a complete nightmare was not there fault but £450 pounds down the pan for us cause 300 miles there to spend in a hotel room being sick and diarrhoea to travel home 300 miles is not how we wanted the trip to be. We are totally gutted about the whole thing. The hotel was nice they supplied us with everything we needed though

The hotel is conveniently situated to walk to the castle and into town. There are some good restaurants in the Grassmarket if you fancy a change from the hotel food. The hotel food is okay but there is little variety so eating in every night could get a little uninspiring. The Grassmarket is noisy at night but you are issued with ear plugs. It is a good hotel if you have children as they get a colouring pack on arrival and the swimming pool keeps them active if the weather turns. All in all a comfortable stay; the reception staff are helpful. It is a busy hotel but that is because of it's location. I have used it before and will probably use it again.

The hotel was beautiful, well maintained, and conveniently located. Our room overlooked Grassmarket and had a clear view of Edinburg Castle. The only negative was the numerous stairs you had to climb to get to the reception desk and then additional stairs to get to the elevator. This was very inconvenient when carrying 50 lbs of luggage. The check out time allowed us to be able to relax in the morning and not rush to get out. They were also willing to store our luggage while we explored the city a little before our flight out. Prior to arriving at the hotel I had some questions and was able to do a live chat with a customer servivce representative. All my questions were answered and I felt very comfortable in staying at the hotel. Very nice stay and would go back.

This hotel is in a fantastic location, we stayed here for three nights and managed to see so much because of how central the hotel is. The service was excellent, we had our room cleaned every day. We did not have the breakfast as we wanted to eat out in the many cafes in Edinburgh. I would recommend this hotel, it's excellent for a weekend away in a fantastic city!

Extremely courteous staff, very modern and beautiful hotel. I could not have been happier with the service or the location!!!

I spent 2 nights in this hotel with my elderly Dad in March 2012. I chose the hotel mainly because of its convenient location and wanted to be sure we had comfortable beds, reliable showers and a good breakfast in the morning. This met all our requirements and more. We weren't able to make full use of all the facilities in our short stay, but we had a superb view of the castle and. although earplugs were provided in the rooms in case of noise, we certainly didn't need them. My Dad's only criticism, as an elderly pensioner, was that there wasn't a grab rail in the bath. Breakfast was very good in The Heights restaurant on the 5th floor and we also enjoyed a bar meal downstairs - very generous servings, well presented. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay there again - excellent value for money.

Excellently located hotel, about 5 minutes walk from Edinburgh Castle. Great views of the castle from outside the hotel. Hotel is in the Grassmarket which has some great restaurants and cages. Hotel was very clean and the staff extremely helpful. We were offered to leave our luggage or have a taxi called for us after we had checked out, something I have never experienced. Reception was also extremely helpful with excellent knowledge of the local area and attractions and provided us with a map. Free wifi and a very comfortable bed. If I had one complaint it would be about the bath, the sides of the tub were very high and quite hard to get into. An older customer might have real difficulty with it. Other than that I was extremely pleased with our stay at the Apex International.

Hotel was great value for money and perfect central location,but restaurant very expensive,a breakfast was double the price of cafes in the area. For room price would expect breakfast to be included.

Our stay at the Apex International Hotel, Edinburgh was one we wish to forget in a hurry! Upon arrival the front desk were at pains to advise it was our misfortune to arrive at a time when the car park was full and the only alternative was a public car park 500 yards away. Unable to tell us the charges and how payment would be made it was then suggested we could park on the street for nothing. After a 15 minute drive around on the Friday evening a park was found 100 yards from the hotel. After finding the park and returning to the reception the bags had to be carried up 2 sections of stairs 5 - 6 on each. There was no ramp at all! How do people with disability manage? Our room was not the most expensive and the experience reflected this. Our view was a stone wall 5 to 6 yards from the window, the shower poured water across the bathroom floor - wetting most of the area and the room temperature was difficult to monitor. Calling reception to enquire how the temperature could be adjusted was met with a " there's a small dial with numbers to the side". I found the dial but no numbers, subsequently it was all hit and miss as the adjustments were made 2 - 3 times until we found the best option was to open the window! At least an hours sleep lost! Our room was a disability friendly room and my wife thought the cord hanging over the toilet roll may have been a clothes hanger. When she pulled the cord the alarm was set off and after a call to see if we were OK an assistant arrived to reset the alarm. When informed that we thought it was a clothes line the response was " We are a bit posher than that" - SORRY nothing is farther from the truth! Recommendation is - there must be better in Edinburgh. This can't be a one off!

The hotel was a very good place to stay. The room were clean, including the bathroom. the staff was very friendly. There were only two negative points. One is the neighborhood is surounded by bars, so it could look a bit rough in the middle of the night. But then I did not bother, since I was still out in the middle of the night. So just keep in mind that there are pubs around and that drunk people always can be a bit over enthusiast. Second point was the heating, the hotel was roasting, and for some reason the heating remained to flick on after we disabled it. But in total I would go back to this hotel. The price/quality was good and so was the location.

I stayed for a few days with my two young sons during the half term break. I know Edinburgh very well and so chose the hotel because it was in walking distance of all the places we wanted to visit and close to good places to eat. The pool was a big hit with the children and the staff very friendly if a little swamped occasionally (I think the hotel was particularily busy with the school break). The room was very clean and comfortable and I would definitely stay there again.

From check in to check out, via comfy bed, good breakfasts and fab swimming pool - really good and comfortable stay. Reception were friendly and helpful - and the kids bag of bits was a lovely touch, made our five year old feel really welcome. They've clearly taken on board previous concerns about the breakfast set up - as the hotel was busy with lots of families, they had an additional buffet option in the Metro restaurant and the standard table service in the Heights restaurant. Nice breakfast - and ideal approach for a family who needed to child-wrangle as well as eat. Am sure the non-family group guests in the Heights appreciated the approach as well! Beds were lovely and comfortable - and I wanted to kidnap the shower and take it home, it was fabulous! We weren't hugely impressed with the evening meal option - it wasn't unpleasant, perfectly edible in fact - just slightly the wrong side of school dinner and as everything else was so great it was a little bit of a disappointment. I would really recommend the hotel - especially if you get the lower rates via this site. We would love to go back. Apex Duck has come home with us and is now a firm friend of our childerbeast. We were so impressed by the chain that I am looking to see what they offer in London for a future stay.

We enjoyed our stay here. Hotel was clean and room comfortable. We had a top floor room at the back of the hotel and weren't disturbed much by the Saturday night crowd on grass market. Excellent pool. Didn't eat at the hotel but plenty of places nearby for breakfast or dinner.

Very good hotel with great views if you're on the right side of the building. The restaurant also has a wonderful view. Free wifi is always-a plus in these days where it's often charged for by hotels. A few "round the edges" details for the hotel handyman but all was very good. Elemis products are a nice touch.

The location is not bad, however it is down a fairly steep hill or 4-5 flights of stairs to get to the Royal Mile, so if you have any trouble walking and want to be closer to the attractions, stay on the New Town side or on the Royal Mile. The immediate square of the hotel is really charming, with great pubs and restaurants, and is close to a lot of different neighborhoods so easy to get around. However, I am really disappointed in the hotel staff and the service provided before and during our stay. We arrived Christmas Day, so I had emailed the hotel prior to our trip to ask about getting to the hotel, what would be open, etc, and the response I got back (everything would be open, buses would be running) was 100% incorrect. The front desk staff was also extremely unhelpful, they had no idea what was or wasn't open whether it was attractions or restaurants. The room service food also left a lot to be desired, so eat out. Also there isn't a lot of sound buffering so you hear everything going on in the rooms next to you and out in the halls. All that said, the room was clean and the bed comfortable, but I wouldn't stay there again.

Great location and friendly, helpful service. Only problem was main restaurant closed for a month the day after I checked in. Cafe downstairs was ok but not a "dining" experience type place. Never figured out how to adjust the heat in my room was the only real negative. Would still go back.

Great location close to the Royal Mile etc, friendly and helpful staff. Very family friendly (except the stairs at entrance to hotel not very pushchair friendly, but there is a ramp at the side of the building). Nice room (would have scored 5 if the room had a fridge and temperature control). Delicious food and great view of the castle at the Heights restaurant, plus kids eat free. I would definitely stay again and recommend the Apex International to a friend.

we loved the swimming pool inside the hotel for the little one and it is in a charming cobbled square overlooking the castle on the hill.

gret locatio very willing to accomodate excellent staff paryying neighborhood on weekend night great locatio

Hotel is in a great location,surrounded by restaurants & interesting shops.Our twin double bed room was of a very high standard (although marks on the ceiling could have been painted over) & very comfortable.The room was at the back of the hotel away from any street noise.Or so we thought.Smokers from the xmas parties running throughout the weekend could be heard upto the early hours,along with the party music leaking from the constantly opening door.We also had the guest in the next room continuing the party there.Thankfully the receptionist dealt with this very quickly. Double glazing would easily sort this out.Overall,a very enjoyable stay & would return.

Apex International is in the ideal location for exploring Edinburgh as is it so close to the Royal Mile and within easy access of Princes Street. We were lucky to get a room looking out over Edinburgh castle which was quite something at night. The room was spacious and cleaning was of a high standard. Housekeeping came round to check that we were satisfied which was a nice touch. I found the bed to be very soft which did not suit my particular needs. Eating at the hotel restaurant is an expensive option. There are plenty of other options available locally but if you want to dine in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle then the Heights Restaurant is unique. Reception staff were very helpful and friendly and made a point of speaking with you everytime you entered the hotel. The hotel was very busy but they never lost the "personal touch". Would definitely stay here again

We had an amazing stay at the apex hotel in edinburgh, the staff were very friendly. The room was really clean and the bed and pillows very confortable. We paid extra for the most wonderful cooked breakfast over looking Edinburgh castle, it was worth every penny, will be coming back to this hotel in the near future

I booked this hotel for my boyfriend's birthday as I'd been there before with work. Unfortunately it seems the good service we received when my company was spending a considerable amount on a conference didn't apply when it was just us visiting for a long weekend. It took over half an hour to check us in because despite arriving past the check-in time there were no rooms ready. The room we ended up in had no air-con and a faulty fridge which was overheating meaning that it was like being in a sauna. We'd also been told that breakfast was included (was detailed as B&B rate when we booked and were told at check-in) and was even written on our key card. However half way through our breakfast on the first morning (literally mid-mouthful!) the waiter came over and said that we 'shouldn't be eating', that we hadn't paid for it. He was very rude and we'd given him our room number on entering so if he had any doubts over whether it was included he should have found out before showing us to a table or at the very least let us finish our breakfast before having a go at us. We spoke to the duty manager who at first suggested that WE had written breakfast included on our key card. Suggesting your guests are trying to be dishonest is never a good way to get repeat business! Eventually she agreed we wouldn't be charged for breakfast and assigned us a new room that afternoon. Would have gone away happy if it wasn't for the fact that when we came back that afternoon another member of staff said they'd assumed it was a mistake having a second room in our name and cancelled the booking. Having already packed up our stuff and left the first room we had no choice but to sit in reception for 35 minutes while they tried to find another room. The hotel is in a great location but that's the only positive I found unfortunately. Usually stay in another hotel when we go to Edinburgh but wanted to book somewhere nicer as a treat. We have stayed at this hotel several times and love it. We love the Grassmarket area, it has great views of the castle, within walking distance of Princes Street, great wee cafe for breakfast just a few doors down from the hotel and great pubs across the road for food and alcohol. The hotel is lovely and the rooms are very comfortable, the bed is the most comfortable I have slept in. The only thing is the bar area could be doing with getting new furniture as it is starting to look a little shabby and dated. We did not eat in the hotel this time but have in the past and it was delicious. Would recommend this hotel.

This was our second stay at this hotel and would stay again due to the location which is second to none for good pubs, restaurants and proximity to the Royal Mile. On the negative side it was much more expensive this year than last and the room was smaller but the same standard as last year, Superior Queen. Only the increasing price would make me consider other hotels but would choose one in the same area.

Sorry, I am so late submitting this review. Preferred this Apex to the other Apex on the Grassmarket, where we stayed 2 years ago. Rooms nicer. Breakfasts very good and staff in breakfast room couldn't be more pleasant and helpful. (that applied to both hotels). Only quibble this time, there was a linen room next to our room, which had the most decrepid door. It did not give a very good first impression. Only quibble with Edinburgh itself is that I think that hotel prices in general are quite expensive in comparison to other cities..
