The hotel has the best beach in isla, is so quiet, service is very good as well as the food. I also recomend the bar , good music and drinks

Been coming to Isla Mujeres for 24 years and always wanted to stay at Na Balam but it was always out of our price range. Decided to splurge and were sadly disappointed. Location is the best but other than the lovely breakfast there were no other amenities. It was a room with a bed, a bath and a safe- that's it. We had to tote water from the market- a giant pain. We were on the ground floor "ocean view" (there was no ocean view). We had been dreaming of sleeping to the sound of the surf and the breeze but didn't feel comfortable sleeping with the door to ground level wide open. Such a shame. We asked to change to an upper level room each day but were told by a surly attendant at the counter nothing was available (this was in low season). My advice: book a place with at least a fridge, water, coffee and a balcony and you'll be much happier. Spend the money you save on a few nice meals and cocktails in town instead.

Wonderful time. Towels, furniture needs a little updating but we had a great time and the location was perfect.

Great beach with shallow, calm water. Hotel is simple but clean. Very relaxed, mellow hotel ambiance. Hotel restaurant good but pricey. Near municipal market with cheap food stalls. Walking distance to Hidalgo tourist strip. Staff helpful and nice. Would definitely come back for another family vacation. Our kids were 20 months and 2 months at time of visit. Had crib for us to use.

Loved this place and definitely wan to return. Everything you needed was very close and the staff very helpful. Very serene and tranquil setting---not overdone, just a great little place.

Na Balam got some underserved poor scores. The location happened to be the best location on the island (as far as beaches go), and fairly convenient to excitement of down town. The grounds were spectacular, and for such a reasonable price. Front desk and beach bar staff were not amazing, but not bad either. They could do some training on customer service in order to make it a more magical experience, but all in all, it was acceptable service.

We loved staying at Na Balam. It was exactly what we were looking for... The beach is beautiful and very relaxing. From our estimation, this was the best hotel on the North Beach. We prefer smaller, more boutique-style hotels, so this fit the bill. The other hotels along the beach are much larger and much more crowded/loud. And they didn't look as "nice." Their new restaurant "Fenix" is just beautiful!! The proximity to town is great--just a short walk. The rooms were what we expected--nothing special. We stayed in a beach-view room and we were very glad we did that. It is definitely worth the upgraded price. Since we didn't expect a luxurious room, we weren't disappointed. The rooms are very basic. The service at breakfast was very slow...very slow...but since breakfast is on the beach, with a beautiful view and we were on vacation, we didn't particularly mind. Also, this is an island in Mexico...so we didn't expect to have the speedy service one is accustomed to in the U.S. And this suited us just fine. The scuba/snorkeling company that is set up at Na Balam is great! Don't book with anyone else, even if you can find slightly cheaper rates in town. The guides are great and it's very convenient to be able to walk out of our hotel room and get on the boat and go. So, overall, we absolutely loved, loved Na Balam. If we stay on Playa Norte again, we will definitely book with Na Balam.

Totally enjoyed our stay. Rooms are clean and basic (ok). The location is fabulous right on the beach. The beach was fabulous. the restaurant made a nice cappuccino. We loved our stay and would stay here again.

We got married 4 years ago at the Na Balam and although they have made changes to the main areas - we still absolutely love this hotel. If you are not one for relaxing and enjoying romantic time with your mate, then you might want to look elsewhere. They have added onto the dining area and have a new bar called Fenix - which is ran by two lovely people (Eric and Jackie). They do have a new manager, Francesco and he did a great job in checking with us to make sure our stay was everything we expected. Rooms are still same, however, very clean and well maintained. I saw some people say things were outdated - people - it is Mexico!!! If you want granite and fluffy pillows then stay at a hotel in Cancun. Having said that, we LOVE Isla and wouldn't imagine staying anywhere else!!!!!! Great job Na Balam!!!

We had a lovely stay - our third year in a row. The setting is gorgeous with lots of lush green palm trees and plants looking out to the beach and the turquoise water. The prices are very reasonable considering the setting and room size. The food at the restaurant was excellent. A bit pricier that some restaurants in town but the menu is a bit more creative and the food is fresh, healthy and well presented. Easy access to town - less than a ten minute walk to everything - tons of restaurants and shops - the best thing is that downtown is close enough but far enough away that there is no noise. I would highly recommend Na Balam.

This hotel has a wonderful beach, is quiet and relaxing whether you stay on the pool or beach side. Not much shade on the beach side and either you are in a chair or laying on wooden platform with foam mattress. The hammock stretched across the patio outside the door to each unit makes entry and exit awkward. If you prefer a soft bed do not stay here, the mattresses are on concrete platforms. They are so hard, glad we were only there for a couple of nights. Our reservation was for a king bed but the hotel had us down for two doubles, they blamed the mix up on Hotels.com. Even showing our printed receipt wasn't helpful because they don't have very many king bed rooms. Also golf cart rental is a plus for getting around the island. There are several companies to choose from even one a half a block from the ferry.

My girlfriend is used to larger resort properties so when we arrived at the more intimate Na Balam, she was luke warm on the place. 24 hours later she was loving it. We spent three days there with one night poolside and the other two beachfront. We preferred the beachfront (2nd floor) but that is a personal preference. The pool is small but nice, though the ocean will likely be your spot for time in the water. Gorgeous beach on two sides of the property. One faces the ocean, and the other just around the bend faces a large calm/clear sand bottom lagoon that is maximum chest deep, but primarily waist deep. Great for kids, weaker/non- swimmers, relaxing, etc... The beach area never seemed overly busy and the lounge chairs/elevated beach mattresses were perfect. For food/beverage they have what you need, but it wasn't busy in the restaurant/bar at all. It seems most people walk a few minutes down the beach to some popular beach bars (busier beach too), or walk the road 5 minutes into town where there are unlimited options. Overall I'd call the hotel a more peaceful refuge with more "action" nearby. Taxi's are always at hand if you need to venture farther, and do grab a golf cart for a day to tour the island. One day will be enough for that unless you always want a cart for whatever reason. Would I change anything about the hotel? Even though the rooms are basic with no TV or phone, that was fine with me. It adds to the relaxation. My only gripe would be the hard beds. These aren't the typical american mattress/box spring set-up, and it seems like more of a very thick padded mat without springs. Again, a personal preference thing. The linens and pillows were fine though. Both rooms we stayed in were the same for that so I assume they are all similar. That's my only issue though. The staff was very nice no matter who we talked with so thumbs-up there. Since there are different room types in different areas, be sure to make final coordination with the hotel on which room

We loved this hotel. Definintely recommend the hot tub suites. I think we had the master suite (#19) and it was awesome. The restruant is a little expensive but the fridge in the room makes it easy to pickup basics from the grocery store 8 blocks away. Nice quiet resort and beach on the far side of north beach.

We visited with our two boys (8 and 10) and loved it. We like the low-key but elegant atmosphere, great food, lovely pool, and excellent beach. The yoga classes are all excellent, I did 5 of them. I highly recommend Na Balam.

The location couldn't be better for a quiet, romantic beach vacation. Yet all the dining, shopping and nightlife that Isla Mujeres has to offer is just a short stroll away. The hotel is at the east end of Playa Norte, arguably the best beach on the island. Most beaches on Isla Mujeres are public. The beach in front of Hotel Na Balam is far enough east that it's somewhat sheltered from the larger beaches to the west and south. The staff were all incredibly courteous and attentive. Treat them well and they'll more than return the favor. The beach staff were always happy to help move our umbrella throughout the day or round up another chair if we needed one. We hit the beach by 10 each day and never had a problem wrangling up a palapa and a chaise or two. The food in the beach restaurant is also pretty stellar. Some of the best we had on the island, if a touch more westernized in presentation and style. Yes, you can save a couple dollars by walking to the center and grabbing a bite, but there's something to be said for having great food right on the spot for a quick lunch. The Tacos Mariscos are ridiculously good. Still taste them today. We read a number of reviews that described the hotel as a little run down or maybe past it's prime. These reports are greatly exaggerated. We found our room to be in perfectly acceptable condition. Yes, the tiles in the bathroom are a touch dated. Yes, they could probably stand a remodel in the near future. However, we also didn't plan on spending a lot of time in the room. And other parts of the hotel facilities have been recently redone. Anyone who's willing to dial down their expectations will find an incredibly relaxed, reasonably authentic Mexican island destination that hasn't yet been destroyed by the commercial tourism machines that have so touched Cancun, Cozumel and Playa Del Carmen. I enjoyed my stay here very much - if you are looking for a pampered, high-rise,glitzy hotel, this is not the place for you! However, if you are looking for rustic chic, and a great beach, you will love the Na Balam. My poolside room had a high thatched roof, and "Mayan" art on the walls, plus a great balcony - felt like I was in a treehouse! Restaurant is upscale, beach is gorgeous! Easy walk to town. Because of the beautiful gardens, there are mosquitoes,be warned. Also, being Mexico, hot water was occasionally scarce - part of the rustic charm (?!).I really enjoyed the Na Balam, and would definitely return.

Na Balam was a wonderful experience! We arrived at night and woke in the morning to the most beautiful beach just feet away from our room. It was heaven. No, there are no TVs, radios, or phones, but that is just what we wanted. We loved that about the hotel! Na Balam is peaceful and quiet. The owner is wonderful and the sales manager and her husband a delight. The restaurant is newly done and the food was superb. I highly recommend it for a romantic get-away or a peaceful weekend. It is not for those who want to party and be rowdy, but for those who want serenity and calm. We will certainly return someday. Our only complaint was the loud bar on the opposite side of the bridge, but the owner gave us ear plugs and moved us to another room the next night. He was very frustrated with them, too. There is great free wireless in two locations, and one is on the beach. There is a TV room-- the best "room" one could ever ask for and a big TV, but I didn't see anyone watching it. I think people go to Na Balam because they don't want to watch TV, which was fine with us!

Rooms are adequate and clean. Front desk staff very accommodating and helpful. Best beach on the island. Restaurant and bar a bit pricey compared to others on the island. Disappointed the yoga classes were not included with your stay.

we are 28 years old couple in our honeymoon, the hotel is in the best place of the island (north) . the room was a suite with a outdore poll that was greate !!! with liked our stay thare very much!!

If you expect a super luxurious hotel and want to be among other super-important people constantly on their phones or blackberries -- move on! The Na Balaam seems to attract a traveler group of people who have just a few basic thing on their mind: relax, read, eat and enjoy daily sunsets. The rooms are clean and have a good basic equipment with a seperate sitting area and the room easily fits four, but they have no TV or phone, for example. But then again, with a sunset like at the Na Balam, so who needs TV (you have that at home, right!?). The staff is super friendly, Mexican style, so don't expect any ADD-personal-assistant-style support from the front desk. The beach is clean, nice and the sunbeds are great, as they fit two (and even then you have space for two little ones). Food is great, the restaurant offers fresh-baked bread and homemade granola in the morning, lunch and dinner (only on weekend during the low-season), but it's all topped by the fact that you sit with your toes in the sandy beach while you enjoy the aforementioned.

Erittäin miellyttävä ja siisti hotelli erinomaisella paikkalla rannalla. Upea hiekkaranta, jonne saa aurinkopedin sekä varjon. Myös juomat tarjoillaan rannalle. :) Hinta oli mielestäni kuitenkin suhteellisen korkea, sillä hotellin taso yleisesti ei ollut mitenkään erityinen. Huoneeseen kuulunut mannermainen aamiainen oli melko turha. Ennemmin jättäisin sen nyt ottamatta huoneeseen ja lähtisin keskustaan aamupalalle. Aiemmin lukemistani arvosteluista ymmärsin, että hotellilla olisi ollut tarjota asukkailleen ilmaista joogaa aamuisin, mutta näin ei kyllä enää ollut. Hinta oli löytynyt sillekkin.

Charmigt beachhotell precis vid en härlig strand med långgrunt turkost vatten. Ingen direkt lyx, men det mesta man behöver finns. 5-10 minuters promenad till affärer. De har en bit kvar till amerikansk servicestandard, men var aldrig otrevliga eller ohjälpsamma. Hotellet rekommenderas.

Trevligt ställe, grymt läge, bra service, trevlig restaurang men servicen endast ok. Fina och rena rum. Klagomålen från tidigare recensioner har uppenbarligen rättats till av hotellet. Möjligtvis städningen något sent efter lunch.

Läget var perfekt och hotellet hade en skön spartansk känsla. Rummet var dock lite trist, gardinerna täckte inte fönstret och var inte mörkläggning. Ingen tv ( helt ok för oss). Sittgruppen i rummet var en hård " utomhusbänk", inte optimalt. La Balam ar även en restaurang som drar ner betyget. Oerhört tråkig och ogästvänlig personal, an kände sig inte välkommen. Däremot har restaurangen ett fantastiskt läge bara 5 meter från vattnet. Som tur var låg club Fenix precis intill ( annan ägare) där vi spenderade mycket tid och pengar. Ledningen för La Balam behöver byta ut några i personalen och bli bättre på Service, dom kan träna på Fenix :)

Hôtel très agréable ou l'on se laisse vivre en contemplant la mer ....tres jolie plage, mer turquoise, que du bonheur !!!

Ci siamo trovati male. Nei letti c'erano peli. La doccia cadevo sul muro invece che in testa. La reception alle 07,00 non c'era. Non lo consiglio.

Vi var meget tilfreds med hotellet. Det har en rigtig dejlig strand. Gode faciliteter som bl.a. dejlig swimmingpool. God morgenmadsrestaurent der ligger med fantastisk ugeneret udsigt til havet. Her er rent og pænt og der er ikke langt til øens centrum. Vi var bestemt tilfreds med vores ophold her. Ps. en swømmetur med delfiner på øens delfincenter, kan varmt anbefales. Lej også en golfvogn og ta' en tur rundt på øen i den.

Superbe plage, super restaurant, super endroit. Rapport qualité prix excellent.

O hotel Na Balan é muito bom. Fica a beira da praia com um visual lindo do mar do Caribe! É muito confortável, bem localizado na ponta norte da ilha, os quartos são muito bons (cama, limpeza). Recomendamos com certeza esse hotel!

We enjoyed our vacation at Na Balam! The location was perfect, right on the beach at Playa Norte. The sunsets was breathtaking! Service was good, the restaurant at the hotel had a great loaction and good food. Maybe it could be open longer than 22-2300, or have possibility to bay water and drinks longer (if we shall be picky) However there was little people there at night. And that was lovely - that it was so silent. It would helped if the room would have had a little fridge, then we could have had something for the nights after the kids was in bed. We was there with two small kids and it was very suitable for kids. Nice beach where the kids safely could play in the sand and water. The service was good and friendly both in the reception and at the restaurant. I dident have time (with two small kids) to enjoy the massage and the spa, but maybe another time. For me the beds was a little to hard. Thanks for a wonderful vacation. One thing that was a little irritating was when we where checking out - they asked about a little wooden thing that missed from the bathroom - for the toiletpaper holder. We hadent seen it, and asked if they wanted money for it., and I was stanading there with open wallet with the taxi waiting. She could not answear, and I said I need a answear now!....for we shall reach the ferry for reaching our bus... She could not answear - started to talk on the poune to find out. I said Miss - we have to go NOW - do you want us to pay for it, we can do that, but you have to say that now. She did not manage to answear (she did say it is not her, but they asked about the wooden thing) . I said sorry we have to go now. So we just left. We had left plenty of tips to the cleaners and to the reception, and it would cost them 5 pesos to fix it. So the last 5 minutes took it a little bit down. Gave a bad last impression, However it take not down the whole experience. It was a lovely place to live and spend our vacation. She was probably new and in need of so
