Definitely not a family place. Only good for young people or people who aren't looking for a nice stay

I dont know why the bad reviews about this Hotel as I didnt see anything wrong with it.Main thing for me was the bed was comfy.Only minus was no free wi fi.Most hotels in Honolulu are over $200 a night.

The hotel was above our expectations. We got a cool city/ canal view, we didn't pay so much to stay there for a week, the room was pretty big and we liked the area, it definately felt safe. The distance from Waikiki beach was a little minus but not a big minus, still it is a 5-10 minute walk but that is ok. The hotel pool and pool deck seemed great even though we didn't go swimming. There was one day that the cleaners forgot to make our bed, and the hairdryers are low energy dryers so it takes like two hours to get your hair dry. I would pick the hotel if I came back though. People at front desk were nice and no neighbors bothered us.

It's a budget hotel that's seen better years. If you're not going to spend much time in your room and you just need a cheap place to sleep, this may be for you.

Can't believe they have no wifi. And if you want internet they charge a bit over 7 bucks a day for some modem to hook up to your laptop. this hotel is stuck in the 90's.

It is an average hotel suitable for those who are looking for a low budget stay in the Waikiki area.

This was our second trip to Hawaii.This time we stayed for three weeks at the Hawaiian Monarch Hotel.The hotel is rather dated. But we have chosen this budget hotel as if you are planning to be out all days, you do not need any extraordinary comfort just for overnight stays. Our room located on the 16th floor provided not only a wonderful view of the mountains but also all the necessary equipment needed during our vacation - a microwave, a small refrigerator, a coffee maker and an iron. The room was kept clean every day. A little bit noisy air conditioning unit,could be well operated,either reduced or switched-off during the night.The bathroom was dated,but the clean towels and essential toiletries were available all the time.Swimming pool and gas grills were accessible to hotel guests on the sixth floor.We enjoyed the heated whirlpool – really fascinating relaxation there!What we greatly appreciated was the staff and hotel´s location!Both the staff at the front desk and the housekeepers were very friendly and helpful.I was lacking an internet connection but I rented a modem that made me an internet available. For the drivers parking space is available within the building. The Hawaiian Monarch is pefectly located – closed to the main shopping streets–Kalakua and Kuhio Ave,10 min walk to the Waikiki Beach and Hawaiian Village,5 min walk to the Convention Center,15 min walk to the Ala Moana Shopping Center or Walmart.To reach the bus stop takes you 5 min walk.

Just cheap enough to stay for as couple of days. Conditions were awful. Bath tub peeling coated paint, ac that sounded like a 747 landing, dreary hallways. It was a motel at best. Try to avoid at all cost,but in a pinch, it works.

This place definitely needs a remodel,carpet worn and discolored,bathtub needed to be re-enameled and there were lots of rust spots on the bathroom floor,.paper thin walls.When I checked in,I had to call around the corner 'hello?',clerk was in a little office around the back of the front desk.Pluses,a microwave and mini fridge in room

Nice view. Couldn't open windows for fresh air, smoking and non smoking rooms on same floor. No voice mail for phones. I would not stay there again. Was a long walk to city bus stop.

The hotel was not bad at all. it is a little old but you can't expect much for the price you pay. The location was fantastic so can't complain :)

The hotel was very old, small, and outdated. Besides the lady that checked me in everyone else seem to not be helpful at all. The only thing good about the whole experience was the price!

The staff was generous with their help, tsunami sirens blaring, I was safe up in the 15th floor (the wave was 4 extra inches in the harbor as far as I could tell) it was a fine place to have a cheap room.

I would stay there again for the price point.... being in Hawaii.... one is really never in the room !!

Fridge,microwave,drier,A/C,TV are on room but No free internet. Clean.The location is not bad.Near to hilton beach park. There is street parking near hotel beyond the canal. Parking on site $16.

My bf and I stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks, and i really can't fault it. We had a stunning view from our room that overlooked the mountains and it was so cheap compared to anything around. The only bad comments were that the shower/bath was sooo old, but everything worked, just could do with being updated. It is quite a walk to get to Waikiki beach and if you wanted to go to the beach everyday i probably recommend a closer hotel, however there are buses, 'TheBus' that go there for £2.50 one way. The neighbourhood was great, didn't have any issues there. If you want somewhere cheap and cheerful then this is where you should be :)

Got there early, however, they wouldn't let us check in until 3. Got to our room and there was still someone cleaning the room. The shower didn't turn off all the way and the toilet kept breaking. Our room was never cleaned in the 5 day period we were there. Cheap hotel, but will definitely fork out more money next time to stay at a better hotel.

We felt very welcome by the staff, who even helped us procure ice for a sore ankle, though one of the missing hotel amenities was ice machines. The hotel is in a shared-use building, with a handful of floors devoted to the hotel. The room was old, but clean, a tiny bathroom and mini tub/shower. Stay here for the convenience and for your budget, it's in Waikiki, on the canal, away from noise, and just a few blocks from the beach and great Japanese food. If you can get a south-facing room, 18th floor or higher, you'll be able to see Diamond Head, and possibly the ocean. Amenities: in-room safe, TV, mini fridge, coffee maker, iron, hairdryer. Lacking: lobby lounge space, ice machines, frills.

check-in was easy enough, room shower had issues with inconsistent hot/cold temp, one night I seen a bug outside the doorway threshold, when i asked to have a courtesy late check out male I spoke to was not accommodating, but rather direct to the point and callus. they were conducting construction at my time of stay, before you make reservation call to see if it is still the condition, and perhaps consider another site. walls are thin, and a good night sleep will not be had.

This hotel is a bit run down and the neighborhood across street is bad...however it is not far to walk to Ala Moana mall, convention center or Hilton Village/Waikiki. Room was small and aging but the bed & shower were clean so it worked for a one night stay.

my stay was very impression, i love the view we had from the room. The location was a bonus. will i stay there again and the answer will be yes.

Room had a smoke oder, it was a non smoking room!

It's a little private hotel with lots of convenient stores within the surrounding areas. 21/2-3 Stars. Price was reasonable & front desk agents were hospitable.

This is not a luxury hotel but, the staff was great and it is a good place to spend the night

Personell very helpful and friendly, smiling people and kind. My Room was clean and confortable. The view was perfect. The location was convinient for shopping eating and sightseeing. If i ever visti Hawai again i would gladly stay there again.

The management of this hotel need to look within its staff, amenities, hotel condition and their advertisement in regards to internet accessibility. At check in, I was greeted by a hotel staff. The problem started when the key card I was given does not work properly. I could not use the elevator as it needed your room key before it operates. I was given 5 different keys and a hotel staff to help me open my door to my room. One of the elevator I used stopped at the 18th floor and would not go up or down. Internet access is in the bar on the bottom floor of the hotel lobby. The hotel does not have internet access. Very poor customer service.

This hotel was okay and the staff was friendly and supportive of my needs. I was impressed. The price was a bit high i thought for what I provided with, but regardless I would stay here again if I had no other option as far as a last minute decision. The location was okay, just on the outskirts of Waikiki, still okay though, i had no complaints there. Hotel staff was friendly and attended to my room on a timely manner. On my last day there, I was late with checking out, and the hotel staff were sensitive with me taking the time to check out. My hotel door didn't have any other type of security lock (bolt lock, chain lock, etc.) besides the one that comes with the handle. (I guess that's a bolt lock, but a chain lock would have been nice and made me feel a bit more secure). On my last day there, with the mix up of the time to check out, the "bell man?" came up to the room and he said, "I was told it was empty" opened my door by accident. There could have been embarrassing moment if i were to be in a "delicate" situation as he just walked it, again, he was under the assumption that I wasn't in the room at the time and that it was empty. I had no harsh feelings towards him and he apologized. My phone in my room didn't work, though it was "hooked up", and that was the cause for the mix up in the first place. Overall, this was an okay room, a bit out of range from being in the heart of Waikiki, but I liked it and would stay here again, (being a single guy) and with the outlook that it's just a room, and not looking for a 4 star place to spend my whole day in.

While not a new or fancy hotel, the Monarch is always our first choice in Waikiki for the value offered, but most of all, for the people. It started when Josh checked me in and recognized me from past visits. It continued with Rose in Parking, who recognized me and said, "Welcome Home!" When Arlene came to clean the room and I opened the door, I was greeted with "You're back!" And when I was ready to check out, Kori helped me to arrange a late check-out even though the hotel was full. I can't imagine a friendlier hotel anywhere! It's truly a home away from home!

Air conditioner was very noisy and the room was very old. needs renovation soon.

The bedspread was ripped and soiled. The mattress was sinking in the middle. The room was filthy. The bathtub was painted.....should have been replaced. We were bitten by bugs when we slept. When we left, there was another couple that were leaving because of the critters in their room.

The King Pub downstairs has great pizza and 1 dollar beer from 5-6pm. The Scooter rentals there are 40% higher than the guy down the street. The hotel room and elevator keys don't work properly having to replace daily. The TV sucked. The AC was so lound and old that it needed to be off to sleep. The plumbing worked poorly. Everything was old. expensive parking and no street parking. Wanted to charge me for a late check out. local residence live in this hotel and were unpleasant. Unfriendly street out front. Long walk to beach

The condition of the hotel is what you would expect for a 2 star hotel; torn carpets, broken and unclean bathroom tiles etc., etc. etc.

The staff at the Hawaiin Monarch were all very friendly & helpful!!!!

Reception was very friendly! However the room was well used, and not very comfortable.

Great place, great hotel. One thing that I felt was not clear was that parking is not included. Parking cost an additional $16 per night.
