We opted to stay outside of the busy, congested city center of Sorrento, and were very happy with the result. The public spaces and rooms were impeccable. The staff was wonderful, and the view of Sorrento waterfront, Mt. Vesuvius, etc. is breathtaking. A "pedestrian" path down (shared with a few scooters and very small cars) allows you to walk to the heart of Sorrento in about 15 minutes. Walking up to the hotel is not necessarily recommended. The shuttle leaves the hotel on the hour, and downtown pickup is on the half hour. This worked great when we needed it. The Dining Room and breakfast were great. During our 5-night stay, we could hear music below us in the lounge until 11:30 on two of those nights, mostly because of the tile floors throughout and the location of our room. The women at the front desk were fantastic-- friendly and very helpful with the questions we had during our stay. If a central location is not a necessity, this should be your top choice!

Fantastic views from the terraces and lounges over the Bay of Naples more than compensated for the distance this hotel is situated beyond the town. The courtesy bus provided by the hotel is really a must and normally runs like clockwork on the hour every day up until 11.30pm (last bus home). There is however a gap of 3 hours between 12 noon and 3pm when the service does not operate and this can be inconvenient as you need to plan your timings around the bus. The walk down to town in daylight can be a pleasant 20 minute stroll but involves steps and steep slopes. Walking back in the dark is not a viable option. Taxis from town are ridiculously expensive (quoted 16 euros). This hotel is extremely well presented and clean with a good breakfast service. We took my 14 year old boy and his school mate at October half term 2011 and they enjoyed use of the outdoor swimming pool which was one of the few to remain open in Sorrento toward the end of the season. Our Double Double room was a good cheap alternative to renting an appartment and my only complaint would be the lack of wardrobe / hanging space provided for 4 peoples clothing and for drying costumes / towels etc. The first room we were offered had a single wardrobe only but we were immediately moved without fuss to an alternative with a double wardrobe and an added tallboy unit. The entrance to these rooms had small hallway areas where there was plenty of space for some hooks or additional storage units to be fitted but was it was just empty space. Rooms did have balconies so on better days we were able to air cvlothes outside. The provision of tea and coffee making facilities in the room and a hair dryer in the bathroom were appreciated and meant less things to pack . A mini bar which we dont use or see the point of really and a safe were aded benefits. A flat screen TV with limited satellite channels was also present although it was a bit small for the size of the room. Staff were helpful throughout our stay and the

Shuttle down from hotel to Sorrento was timely however we had some diificulty locating shuttle back to the hotel. However I am sure this problem could easily be circumvented with a little more communicative effort.

Great hotel , Great staff, Great food, Great time

THE HOTEL IS VERY NICE AND HAS A SHUTTLE TO DOWNTOWN. THIS WAS VERY IMPORTANT IN GETTING TO AND FROM THE CENTER OF THE CITY. THE EMPLOYEES WERE VERY HELPFUL AND KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THE SURROUNDING AREA. THERE IS A SHUTTLE FROM SORRENTO TO NAPLES WHICH WE WERE INFORMED OF BY THE STAFF.

The hotel location was terrific, high up on the hill meant wonderful views of the surrounding hills and ocean. There is a courtesy bus that goes into town, though we found the walking track easy to navigate and this meant not having to wait for the hourly shuttle. The staff were very friendly and helpful, all spoke English and didn’t seem to mind that we had little Italian. There is plenty of space in the bedroom, though the bathroom did not have any storage areas, so it meant shower bags etc. had to be left on the floor.

This is a wonderful hotel for honeymooner like us. Love it, great view of the bay of naples, i loved spending time on the balcony watching ships and boats circle the bay. Great pool! Great breakfast ! Its on a hill, so it is not close to town, but they have shuttle service that takes you to town very hour. Im definitely coming back!

We just got back from our stay at Grand Hotel Aminta, and we loved it! Upon arriving they showed us to our room which was in their annex building. We walked by the pool with an amazing view and through the garden past the lemon grove. It was a short and beautiful walk. Although we had booked a standard room, they upgraded our reservation to a room with a small balcony and view of the garden. It was lovely. The room was a good size and very clean. The air conditioning worked well. The beds were a bit hard, but I had expected that from reading previous reviews. I wouldn't say it was an issue. The free Wi-Fi worked well both in the room and around the pool and lounge areas. The pool areas and the view were our favorite parts, we spent a lot of time enjoying these. Sun beds are by reservation at a few Euros/day. There are chairs that you can use at no cost. If you don't reserve a sun bed you can still get a towel from the pool attendant for a small fee. You sign all charges to your room, so no need to carry money around while at the hotel. The hotel overlooks the Bay of Naples, Mt. Vesuvius, and Sorrento below. It is breathtaking. They had fantastic live music at the outdoor lounge. It was nice to have the option to stay at the hotel for entertainment after a very long day of sightseeing. Regarding the food, the breakfast was pretty standard with a choice of cereals, breads, pastries, yogurt, as well as hot items like eggs, bacon and sausage. It wasn't "great" but it was included in the cost of our stay and the convenience was appreciated. We ate at the hotel restaurant on a Wednesday "gala" night. Again, you will find better food in town, but the convenience and the value was worth it. I do recommend the snack bar for lunch, we had some terrific pizza here. The free shuttle was great, we rode this into town and back most trips. We did walk down the hill into town the first night which was scenic and enjoyable. Coming back would have been more challenging but not imposs

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Aminta for 12 days and the location was excellent. The hotel is a little far from the city center but the SITA being across the street made it convenient to get to the city center. The staff at the front desk were extremely helpful. The complimentary breakfast was outstanding. The only drawback was that they could have a done better job keeping The rooms cleaner. Overall it was a good hotel with amazing views.

Hotel Amita is a beautiful hotel, on a mountain overlooking the beautiful city of Sorrento. For travelers who don't mind taking the shuttle the hotel offers into the city, this hotel is very classy and romantic. I just got back from my honeymoon with my husband, We stayed here. It's kind of nice being above the city and we didn't mind the shuttle. If you want to stay out later than 11:30 the taxi's are very expensive.

an outstanding hotel; Great service and breakfast; Did not eat supper there- the restaurants in town are too great to miss. We appreciated the free upgrade and support of arranging private transfers from our Naples train arrival and tours of Pompei. Pool was well maintained and area relaxing and well divided for privacy. I have and will recommend this to anyone - the views from yur balcony make it somewhere you will never forget!!

Friendly and helpful staff Nice pool with beautiful view - note you have to pay 4euro for a sun lounge which you are meant ro reserve the day before (but there are chairs you can use for free) Complimentary shuttle bus to and from town (10 min walk down to town - 20 min hard climb back up!) only problem with bus is at night choice of 9.30pm or 11.30pm and a taxi will cost you 20euro if you want to come back in between. Great Buffett breakfast and nice big room. Over all would definitely stay again and recommend!

I took my 2 daughters on a father daughter trip to Italy and stopped in Sorrento. It was a last minute hotel book and I couldn't have been more pleased. The hotel is a 7 minute free bus ride from the hotel. The bus runs every hour on the hour. Its nestled in the mountains overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. I don't think there's a room with a bad view. The staff spoke multiple languages and wwere very accommodating. They have a great pool with and breakfast is included in the stay. I'd recommend it to anyone with kids.

We enjoyed our stay at the Aminta very much. While it was a litte outside Sorrento centre, the shuttle sevice was excellent and the driver very pleasant. We did walk it in and out mostly, the walking path took about 20 or so. It is downhill on the way in but is more difficult on the way out with some steps but still manageable. We did not mind the walk. Breakfast was very good. The terrace has lovely views and is lovely and relaxing after being downtown. We had a room at the front of the hotel and while not overlooking Sorrento, we still had a great view of the bay of Naples and Vesuvius. We had a balcony so could sit out in the evening. All in all a great stay and would certainly stay again.

We fell in love with this hotel for a number of reasons: free breakfast (which was marvelous), free WiFi, free shuttle service to the heart of Sorrento (roughly an 8 minute shuttle ride offered many times a day), fantastic staff (always smiling and more than willing to assist), free parking, stunning views, clean and comfortable rooms...I could go on and on. This hotel, by far, is a hidden gem. I cannot recommend this enough and our future trips to Sorrento will find us at this amazing hotel.

This hotel is immachulate and run by friendly, engaging staff. The room (although basic) was clean and adequate. The bed was too short for me at 6' 3" and was quite hard. Air conditioning was present and very effective. Breakfast included a wide spread of pastries and baked goods with some cooked items and a small a la carte selection. The hotel was quite far from the centre of Sorrento (40 minutes to walk) and taxis currently cost about 25 Euros one-way. The hotel do however run a free hourly shuttle bus until 11:30pm which offsets this problem.

The Aminta is a wonderful hotel in the hills of Sorrento. The view is just absolutely amazing, with Sorrento, the Bay of Naples, and Mount Vesuvius. You can sit on the terrace in comfortable cushioned chairs and take all that view in. Waiting for sunset from this spot, sipping your favorite drink is truly La Dolce Vita. Though the hotel is not in the Sorrento town center itself, the shuttle service that runs almost every hour makes it a non-issue (there is a 2 hour gap between in the early afternoon and late at night, between 9:30pm and 11:30pm). It takes just about 10 mins to get to town, though there is apparently a walking path from the hotel that takes 20 mins, though we didn't try this. The room we got was pretty large by European standards and most importantly, very clean. Air conditioning is centrally turned on and off, and if you go in a 'transition' month such as May, there is no AC. There is a thermostat you can control when air (or heat) is on. This wasn't really a problem during our stay, with outside daytime temps in the mid-70 and lows in the low-50 degrees F. The hotel food is pretty good - my wife had a great tuna pasta dish for one lunch. The included breakfast is fairly extensive, with cereal, meats, egg, cheeses, and various pastries. Service is very good and the front desk will not hesitate to give you good advice on where to go and what to do. All in all, a very satisfying stay in Sorrento.

My family had a wonderful time at the Aminta hotel during Easter vacation. Be sure to splurge on a sea view room - the views are amazing. We had the free breakfast included with our deal and my family loved it. The staff was great - always happy, full of great advice, etc. spoke English very well. On last day they arranged for a very early (4 a.m.!!) taxi to airport and had our breakfast packed and ready to go - was extremely impressed. Can't say enough about the views and the staff. Only downside - you need to plan your timing carefully to take the free hotel shuttle back as it doesn't come very often (we took the long walk down to town each morning - it's very scenic & easy on way down but bit challenging to walk up as it is quite steep). Also wish the pool was heated but the pool area is beautiful! Highly suggest this hotel and LOVED the Sorrento area:)! We did day trips from here to Pompeii, Capri & Positano. GREAT TRIP!!!

This is our third stay at Aminta and it is always wonderful. The staff is friendly and helpful. The views from the hotel are amazing. The rooms are modern and clean. The staff go out of their way to please. We stayed a week here off season over the last several years. So we don't know what it is like when the pool is open, but it is a great place to base for touring Capri, Pompeii. Herculeneum, Oplontis etc. Just be reminded that the hotel is located a couple of miles from the center of Sorrento and you have to rely on a shuttle bus from the hotel to take you into town (free of charge). They do run frequently. We had a car rental and parking is free. We're hoping to return.

The Grand Hotel Aminta has a wonderful downstairs sitting area and is clean. The hotel's location is quite far up the mountain, so I would recomend having a car. There is a shuttle into town but it does not run frequent enough. Even though the internet is free, we could not log on at all during the our two nights at the hotel. We had a double room with two twin beds that were very hard and uncomfortable (made sleeping very difficult). .Bathroom was clean but very small. Breakfast was average with too many sweets. They have a resturant with a set menu for lunch and dinner, but very, very expensive. My husband and I and two friends that booked the same type room have the same complaints.

Staff was very nice and accommodating. We enjoyed our stay at the Grand Aminta. We also really enjoyed the one dinner we ate there the first night of our stay.

We were so very impressed with Hotel Grand Aminta. The hotel was beautiful, clean and comfortable with incredible views! We arrived after missing luggage (from the airline) for 3 days and our bus breaking down and we were not in a very good mood. The staff was INCREDIBLE. They went so far above and beyond even making phone calls and translating on our behalf and arranging for delivery of our bags and accepting them and delivering them to our room on our behalf so that we were able to maximize our touring time. We highly recommend Grand Hotel Aminta!

This is a large hotel overlooking Sorrento with a great view of Naples and Vesuvius. They had a large breakfast which was light on the meats (typical of an Italian breakfast) but heavy on the fruits, yogurts, and delicious pastries. The staff was quite friendly. There's a bus service furnished which takes guests to town on a scheduled basis. The kind bus driver, upon seeing my daughter and I pulling an unripe orange from a tree at the downtown bus stop, returned to pick us up later that day with a bag of oranges picked from the orange grove next door to the hotel. We would definitly recommend this hotel to fellow travelers.

Would stay here every time! Love the views at the top of the hill. Rooms were clean with great views of Sorrento from the hilltop. Good transport down to Sorrento town with helpful driver. Great quality food at restaurant. Very profesionally run hotel.

No complaints , everything as expected for a 4 star hotel with comfortable and clean rooms and good dining experience . Regular hotel bus service into town very useful . Views across Naples Bay from hotel were superb . Would have liked tea/coffee facility in room , but perhaps that's just an UK need .

This was a great hotel choice for us. We booked the cheapest room we could find with the intention, since it was off season in November, of upgrading if the room did not suit our taste. When we arrived, we had already been upgraded one level and we did not need to do anything more. The breakfast included with the room was the best in Italy and the hotel staff was the friendliest we found. The shuttle service to downtown Sorrento is very valuable since taxis are not cheap. Because we were leaving around 5 am on the day of departure, they packed a bag breakfast for us to take in the car!

The hotel is very sterile with no European charm. It reminds me of being on a cheesy cruise ship. Also, it is a 25 euro taxi ride to town. This hotel is best suited for package tourists.

Great hotel. Quite away out of town, but with a regular shuttle/coach service which take guest back and forth to town. Unfortunately, the last bus runs at 11.15pm, and a taxi during the day cost about £25... Walking into town is the best part of 20mins down a steep path/road/steps - the walk back is over an hour! Reception have more information than you know what to do with, and if they don't have it, they'll come and find you with the details! Bit old fashioned is service and manner - friendly service, but strictly professional. We had a attic bedroom, which was great - warm and dry and very clean. Handy with parking. Very deep pool, which is cool for diving in - if the cold don't get you! Ha! Restaurant/Bar operate strict hours, which can be a pain if you want a late drink, but hey... Gret for viewing Sorrenton and the penninsula, and especially the Amalfi Coast!

Warm, comfortable and away from the scooters of downtown Sorrento. This hotel was an upscale retreat away from the husstle of the city. Would definately stay there next time again.

Simply fantastic! Staff very freindly and helpful Restaurant was very bright and clean, buffet breakfast was a standard buffet breakfast, tasty food with no limits Pool area and bar were clean tidy and relaxing. Quite simply really enjoyed the hotel, location was out of town, so quieter than in town, free buses ran when timetable said they would. A walk to town was not out of the question 20 minutes down the paths. No complaints with hotel To be really picky the description of " close to scuba diving" is not exactly true. But please understand that if that is the only item we can come up with it provides an idea of how highly we rated this hotel Attic rooms are actually bigger than normal rooms and have a great view over Sorrento, but be aware that the lift stops on the 4th floor so you will need to walk one flight of marble stairs to the fifth floor. Not a problem for us, but may affect others booking this hotel. Thank you Hotel Grand Aminta for a memerable holiday in a lovely hotel

terrible shuttle service,very inconvenient hours for a hotel outside the city. very average,mediocre food,stale bread,not what we expect for a 4 star hotel.

This hotel is in the hills above Sorrento and not an easy walk to town. While Sorrento is a pleasant place, the real draw to us was the fact that it is the gateway by ferry or train to other places like Positano, Pompeii, Capri and Amalfi. The hotel provides a bus to town, but the schedule can be a little constraining. There are times during the day when it is two or three hours between buses. If you miss one, you have to take a taxi which is about 27 Euros for the three mile , ten minute ride or a public bus which can be confusing for a newcomer to the area who doesn't speak Italian. That said, the view is beautiful and the public areas are nice.

The Grand Hotel Aminta is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful part of Italy. We were moved from the Villas to the main building. We were quite happy with this since the Villas are too far away from everything and inconvenient to get to. The rooms are very small (for a family of 4) but very clean. The morning breakfast is very good. The shuttle to Sorrento is very convenient since Sorrento is a nightmare to drive. Area highlights: Visit Positano and Amalfi. Eat at La Tagliata in Positano. Best restaurant experinece in Italy. Do not waste your money and go to Capri. Overrated and expensive. Positano is nicer.

Stayed seven nights in this hotel and really enjoyed it. Stunning views of the bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius from the hotel. Rooms were large and comfortable. Hotel runs a free shuttle bus to the centre of Sorrento with the first and last buses being the busiest. Hotel is even nicer in reality than photos show.

On check in I was very impressed with the friendliness of the staff, I had booked a triple room and was given a choice when checking in of two rooms and brought to see both of them. One was quite small but the the other was very big with a lovely view of their gardens. The rooms were cleaned daily which was really good. I found the shuttle bus service very good, it would be great if there was one a little later than 11.15, you wouldn't want to be late as they leave right on time. Breakfast in a mornings was good, if the choice of fruit was wider that would be good. The views from this hotel are amazing, to have that it is well worth staying there. The staff that worked at lunch time were not as friendly as the rest. I didn't like the fact that on occasion you were forced to bill things to your room, I like to know where I stand with my spending on holidays. This was a must for lunches and sun loungers not so much when ordering drinks. The pool area is lovely but in the hight of season I would think it would be hard to find space to lie out if that is what you are there for. I plan on going back and staying in Aminta again!!

We had a wonderful stay at the Aminta. The hotel has the most phenomenal view. We had a poolside view with a balcony overlooking the Bay of Naples and the town of Sorrento below. The staff is so accommodating and eager to help. We traveled in a group of eight, and I emailed the hotel several times with questions and special requests. The concierge was always quick to reply and happy to comply with our requests. There is a shuttle bus that goes into town from morning till night. Sometimes it may be a little difficult to adhere to the schedule but, all in all, it is not a problem since there is a Sita bus that also runs past the hotel.

Our stay at the Grand Hotel Aminta was wonderful. All of hotel staff is most helpful and accommodating. The hotel's restaurant had a very nice dinner menu and the breakfast buffet was very good. The shuttle service into town was very convenient, although from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. there is no service. During that time, however, you can take the Sita bus which stops right outside the hotel door and only cost 2 Euros per person. The view from the hotel overlooking the Bay of Naples and Mt. Vesuvius is breathtaking. Grand Hotel Aminta is highly recommended.

Grand Hotel Aminta was wonderful. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Rooms in the main hotel had magnificent views of Vesuvius, the sea, and its the coastline. Beds were a bit narrow and could have been a little softer. Free internet was a nice accommodation. Shuttle service to the hotel was a bit tricky to find and could use better directions from the train station instead of just the name of the pick up point. Very happy with our stay and would book Aminta again.

It was like paradise...the breakfast was fantastic and you could order eggs the way you want them off the menu as part of the complementary breakfast...the shuttle service in and out of town was always on time...the view is fabulous...my daughter and I loved it!

A lovely hotel with a cool modern interior. Hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel occupies a great panaramic spot with lovely views. If you have the fortune to get allocated a room on the western side of the hotel will be able to enjoy the lovely evening sunsets. The pool area is a little small and the actual pool is not heated. If you are looking for a swim in the early evening the pool area is in shade and you will find it a little cold. The room we were allocated - being a double double was a nice size, very clean, bed was a little hard - typically italian but we had nice flat screen tv in our room with a good few english channels. the rooms I would rate the fitting as only a 3* the rest of the hotel I would rate as a 4*.The hotel restaurant provides nice good quality food, although the evening meal is quite expensive for the portion sizes you get. Ww would recommend this hotel to friends and family. The biggest plus point is the free shuttle bus that runs from the hotel to Sorrento centre at various times of the day. if I was to comment on this service it would be only to say it could be a little more frequent.

First review I've ever written......could never be bothered before, but had to say what a wonderful time I had. The hotel is clean, the staff very helpful and friendly, and the view beautiful. It is a bit out of town, but I think thats a good thing, as it's more peaceful than in town. You can get the bus into town if you wish, which is no hassle or walk in.......it really isn't that far. Little bit of exercise on your holiday is good! No bad comments to make at all.

Everything was 1st class

We stayed 5 nights at the Aminta. Booked the half board and thought it was a good deal. The hotel was a little further out than I envisioned. We were lucky and were upgraded to a seaview room. The views were spectacular. But the hassle of getting into town was a pain. The hotel shuttle doesn’t start running until 9 AM and if you want to get an early start, a walk down the hill may be in store. You can try to catch a Sita Bus like we did, but I hope you have better luck. If they’re full, they just pass you by. The same trying to catch one back up the hill. Wound up walking up the hill a couple times and it was hot (95F). Not something you want to do in the summer. We booked a cab to the train station just because of the lousy bus experiences we had. So if you wanting to stay someplace really nice and don’t really have a lot of plans to visit other places other than a trip into Sorrento on their shuttle bus, than this is your place. But if you plan on doing a lot of traveling to places like Capri and Positano, you may want to take into account that this hotel is not the greatest place for access to transportation (These issues may not be as bad if you are not traveling in the summer months). I will say that the hotel staff was really great.

The Grand Hotel Aminta was rated number 1 on Hotels.com and looking at other reviews of the hotel, my expectations were high. I read previous reviews about a hike down to town... it really is a hike! When on holiday we like to be able to wander out and explore as we please but the walk put us off. The hotel lays on buses but from town to the hotel there are only buses at 8.30pm and another at 11.15pm in the evening. The 11.15pm bus is packed! A taxi for the 5 minute ride up to the hotel was EUR25 so we often ended up walking. We are fit people and often go hill walking but it was a steep climb and the last thing we fancied after a nice meal! The hotel was nice and the service was brilliant but it was on a main road, not noisy from inside the hotel but it was noisy at the pool and from the balcony. The last gripe was the EUR4 charge for the sunloungers - of which there weren't enough of! I'd been to Sorrento before and stayed in the centre which is what I would recommend anyone else to do.
