Resort was beautiful,view of ocean was great. Hotel was spotless. Would highly recommend

If you're looking for a relaxing, beautiful hotel this is definitely the place to stay. The hotel is decorated beautifully, the rooms are nice, and the food is great (just make sure you make reservations early). We didn't get a chance to go in the water because the surf was really rough, but the beach is really nice, they could use more seating areas though. The staff is very helpful, nice, and professional. They also have nightly shows, which are pretty cool! Only drawback is.. the hotel is huge, so if you stay outside of the main building it is a little walk to get to the main lobby (for anyone who has disabilities). Overall, our stay was pretty close to perfect. I will definitely stay here again!

The hotel was beautiful and our room was also very nice. Not enough chairs on the beach, and the kids club never seemed to participate in the activiites designed for kids. Food is ok, but not anything you can't wait to get to. When I went to check out, they were claiming that I had charged $83 in purchases to my room, which was false. So that was a big issue, and they took over 20 mins to resolve it. But we enjoyed staying there overall; good family environment.

Excellent hotel, great customer services

Selected this hotel for 2 nights as it popped up in All-Inclusive list, 4 star, top of low to high price selection. Read reviews and learned that construction in progress. Thought may be lower rates due to construction. Upon arrival learned that my booking is for European plan and it is not All-Inclusive. Showed them my print out but they didn't agree. Called Hotels.com from the property location and the customer service rep agreed with me that it is all inclusive. Put me on hold and told me that it is NOT all-inclusive. Asked then why is it popping up in All-Inclusive, no answer. Paid double the price for all inclusive as cancellation would cost at least one night. Hotel agreed to refund the rest of the nights. Other than price issue, very beautiful hotel and excellent service.

It's a beautify hotel, great staff, and gorgeous beach. It would be better if there was no construction all around during our stay.

The front desk service seemed to take forever to check us in. Then when we checked out it took even longer. We had to catch a plane and waited for 45 mins to just check out. The hotel was beautiful, just need a few lessons in customer service.

Nice 3 star resort. Lots of construction going on. Only 3 restaurants open and the food was okay, nothing great. Also They charge you for water and wifi. But staff was very nice!

The hotel was lovely, the staff friendly and the overall ambiance was great, but not a place to take senior citizens. I was travelling with my active 83 year old mother, but the 66 staird to walk up to the lobby from the golf course, and the large about of steps to get to the pool or beach became very difficult, with my mother having to stop numerous times to rest.In addition, the hotel is so large and spread out that unless you are staying in the main complex, the walk to the pool, beach or lobby is extremely long.

Hotel and location were excellent!! I was able to take public transportation anywhere in Cancun. Rather than sticking to hotel "all inclusive", my bus ride to Central Cancun to experience REAL mexican food was outstanding, specially when I was referred by the locals on where to dine. My first time at this hotel and will definitely go back!

Hotel staff was warm and welcoming and very friendly. We had a room that the air conditioning was not working well, and they moved us promptly to an awesome room. This is my 2nd stay and I will continue to stay there. The pool area is spectacular with the water temperature perfect. Lounge in the pool, take a swim in the ocean. Doesn't get any better than that.

The Gran Melia turned out to be an awesome stay! I was skeptical because the cost was so cheap what I was getting into. The overall stay FAR surpassed my expectations. The hotel was beautiful, the staff was very friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean and modern. The pool has to be the biggest, best pool area in Cancun. I toured the top resort in Cancun just to compare, and in my opinion, the pool was a better layout and overall a better area at Gran Melia. The hotel is under a ton of construction so I am looking forward to seeing it in a year or so, it will be very nice. This construction addresses my only fault in the hotel and that is it lacks the small, first class details in maintenance and appearance. Don't get me wrong, it is not ill-kept by any means, but when you really examine the property, you can see it is an older facility that has been face-lifted a time or two. The construction is going to bring it to the next level. Also, the location is great! Walking distance to a lot of stuff. McDonalds is right across the street with free Wifi and cheap ice cream cones! I travel a lot of business and pleasure and stay in everything from cheap one-night hotels to 5-star resorts world-wide and this hotel really suprised me. It is not the nicest hotel I've been to, but the value for the price is incomparable. Book and saty here!

As soon as you check in they introduce you to the concierge who by offering hotel services for the guests make you sign in a silly membership meeting - it's all a complete scam. The hotel has around 20 people around the hotel harassing the guests - I felt a lot of pressure - very unprofessional from the hotel supervisors. I would never recommend this hotel.

Room was dirty, sheets were full of hair asked for change of sheet and the replacing ones were dirty as well. since the moment you go in hotel you are harassed by sales people trying to sell time share that was not the reason I went there .

we stayed 6 nights in a boutique hotel in Playa del Carmen and our last and 7th night at Gran Melia in Cancun. Maybe we just prefer the smaller setting b/c this big generic hotel was really disappointing. Nothing "bad" per se, the people were polite, our room was clean but it just had no personal touch at all. granted It is their slow season and it seemed very understaffed we had a hard time finding people on the property to ask questions etc, and it just seemed empty and boring. the pool is pretty, the lobby is stunning and overall the facility is really nice and kept up well (however we both did get sick after eating room service that night). the long hotel row where this hotel is at doesn't offer much - two malls and alot of chain restaurants as well as a vegas like club area that is really for the under 25 set. so the morale of the story is if you want a vacation where you can lie around at the pool and eat and relax and have people bring you drinks and go to bed early this is your type of hotel. if you want any type of local culture, including food or sightseeing or meeting any locals this is not the place for you.

Our standard room featured a living room/tv, a separate bedroom/tv, and a large deck, which looked over the pool and to the ocean, had two chaise lounges, and a full-size jacuzzi. The hotel itself, lobby, etc, were gorgeous, with 40-feet ivy plants dangling down the walls of the cavernous atrium. Pricier than other hotels, but you won't be disappointed.

We loved the hotel, our room, the pools and beach. Would definately stay again. Our only issue was with the concierge ( decidedly unhelpful ) and information provided in the rooms - we found it impossible to find out about the restaurants in the hotel and their menus, (we didn't know about the buffets for a couple of days) Couldn't get information about downtown shopping - we felt really cut off from the rest of Cancun.

Very comfortable, neat and smell good.

Overall my stay exceeded expectations due to: 1) Convenient location - easy access to beach, laguna, aqua world for water sports across the street, restaurants, shopping, etc., 2) Inexpensive transportation - Bus stop is right in front of the hotel ($8.50 Pesos per trip), 3) Rooms are very clean and hotel lobby is beautiful/comfortable, 4) Oceanfront setting with extensive pool area, towel service, and bar service, 5) Restaurants onsite and room service provide reasonably priced meals. I would have rated this hotel a "5" if front desk service was more efficient and courteous, concierge friendly, and certain areas of hotel could use some improvement.

Convinient location for our purpose and high quality hotel. Staff friendly and very helpful. Service above par. Hotel restaurants excellent. Amenities by the beach always clean. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Amazing facilities, great value for money, incredibly friendly and helpful staff. The only minor thing was that it wasn't within walking distance of the places we had dinner and went out, but the bus stop right outside was so easy and so cheap it really wasn't an issue at all.

Everything is good.

This is a great hotel with only a few down points, the food is not as good as it could be and everything is very expensive in there!! Other than that it's a awesome place to stay!!

This was a big suprise beacuse of the excellent rate and I would stay there again. May be the cleanest hotel I've stayed in for sometime. This Spanish (Spain) owned chain has their act together in quality of the staff and beauty of the hotel. Pools overlook the ocean and there is a good expanse of beach. Extremely friendly staff with lots of smiles. The gym is above average and the equipment modern. There were only two very minor downsides. The coffee in the hotel is really not up to par. However there is a 7-11 and a McDonalds in walking distance. Coffee in the McDonalds is passable and the 7-11 is great to load up on snacks and liquids including beer. The other problem is a bit more serious in that checking in and out can be a nightmare with a long wait if staff are not at the desk. In addition, make sure you check carefully the hotel charges credited to your room. I found many mistakes and it took a while to reslove. But it was resolved after a long wait and irritation of those behind me in line. I suggest getting the bill the night before and checking the charges. I did not select the European Plan but many guests did but snack food was quite reasonable a la carte. You will like this hotel.

front desk was super slow. never been to a hotel with such slow check in service. average 10-15 mins per guests. ocean view room was lovely. Room is spacious and clean and modern. Hotel is hugh and nice looking lobby. Their beach is nice. someone entered my room when we were not there. I knew because i noticed the chairs were moved (it wasn't the cleaning lady) but nothing was taken from the room.

What a hip and totally modern hotel. the architecture is wonderful and the place never seems crowded. It IS a bit pricier than other places, but it does have a niche in the hip type of crowd.

Great location, Great staffs, But Busy front desk, busy phone. It would take forever to have someone at their front desk answer your phone, if you are lucky it wouldn't hang up on you. Too complicated to check-in & check out. If you make reservation last minute or during weekend be prepared to have credit card $3000 Mexican peso on hold to get the room key until hotels.com can sort it out with them. Beautiful & big hotel would make you get lost easily to find your way to your room, pool, beach, front desk give yourself 30mins to find them. The internet is not free, the shade by the beach or business center is not free either. Pool closed by 7p (asa dark). Food is great, service is great except one of those day when one of the front desk staff was too busy or bad day from home, you would get the tough time and the rest of their front desk team have to apologize and make up for customer. Overall is great service, clean, convenience. Don't take taxi alone when it's dark. The bus $8.50 mexican peso along the coast line, don't go too far from your comfort zone. I wish I could remember that unfriendly female front desk name who I contacted with and made me felt like I didn't what to tell any friends to go back but the rest of the front desk are the great customer service team to try to do their best job.

This hotel was beautiful and the staff was friendly. However, first of all, I choose an upgraded room that came with "$200.00 U.S. resort credit". What I got for this was a sheet of coupons for things like $5.00 off a $25.00 purchase at the Market and so on. I feel that this was false advertisement and I would not have booked this and spent what I did for the room if I had known that. Second, we could hear the singer and music from the bar on the first floor like it was next door late in to the night. We were on the fifth floor.

we stayed in the red level and it was marvelous! private section, has it's own pool, own services and all.

The stay at the Gran Melia Cancun was one of our best travel destinations ever because of the outstanding customer service and value. We had wonderful food from the Hotels Restaurants with service that is very hard to find in the tough economy. The hotel was fully staffed to ensure the guests had prompt and pleasant service. We were so impressed that we have planned our next get away with this Company.

We thought we would treat ourselves with a little bit of luxury for a change. Unfurtunately, we were not lucky enough. We had booked a room with views to the lagoon and a king size bed in this complex that is as big as a city. The building is huge and the installations are fantastic. It could be a great hotel, but it lacks plenty. At reception, before we even saw our room, we were offered an upgrade. Sometimes we get upgrades, but never asked to pay extra. We decided to give our room a chance, after all we are at a 5 star hotel. The room had two beds (in a hotel that has over 300 rooms I can't believe they did not have one with a double bed in low season) and view to a road ( apparently, behind was the lagoon but we couldn't see it), the sink got stuck contantly and we had water dripping from God knows where all night. Also, we only received a soap bar to wash ourselves. Having said that, we got a better room after a couple of days but this one did not come with shower gel either. The staff was not very attentive as they may just speak to the next person before they even finish a conversation with you. I will not come back to this hotel. The only good thing I have to say about it is the "casual" restaurant, the food was delicious and the staff not only friendly but very professional. A 10 for them, a 4 to the rest.

Beautiful hotel and views. Best Mexican food I have ever eaten. And the buffet alone is better than many sit-down restaurants I've been to. Top-notch service and worth every dollar spent. Can't wait to be back!
