The Best Western Plus Gateway Hotel was a great, convieniently located, and well priced option to stay in Santa Monica. 15 mins walk from 3rd st prominade, and beach, close to shopping areas/bus stops/car rentals and restaurants. Friendly and helpful staff, a clean, well apointed room, all without major costs. With an in house IHOP restaurant, breakfast was always easy to organise before heading out for the day. Would definitely stay here again.

It is an ok hotel but very small rooms. I expected it to be nicer given the reviews.

I booked the hotel because of its proximity to the hospital where I was having surgery. The hotel fulfilled all my needs.

The staff were very friendly. The location was great as it is easy to get to and a great place from which to visit nearby sights. The bed was very comfortable. I just think the rooms look very uninspiring - they need some color. Otherwise a very nice hotel.

The hotel had free parking which is good because everywhere we went in Santa Monica parking was expensive. They also offer a free shuttle bus to take you to main area in Santa Monica which was useful. IHOP (Pancakes) is just across from the hotel so it is a great place to eat breakfast. The rooms were clean but the furniture was outdated. The staff were very friendly and overall for the price it was a great place to stay.

I forgot my kindle in the room and was excited to know the housekeeper turned it in. They sent it to me hassle free....wonderful service.

Room was clean and very comfortable. I will stay again. This is the 2nd time we stay is walking distances to restaurants and shopping stores.

A great hotel if you are on a budget. Close to everything and an I-Hop right there. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it.

Good, comfortable rooms, adequately sized and reasonably well equipped. Service was professional and efficient. The free WiFi is fast and reliable, unlike in some places we've stayed recently. The only downside is that the rate didn't include breakfast, but there's an IHOP downstairs which makes up for this. Would recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a decent hotel at a reasonable price in Santa Monica, unless you're looking to spend time mainly on the beach or the 3rd St vicinity in which case this is a bit far. Overall a pleasant stay.

We were very concerned about security at the hotel. The parking garage was for IHOP and the hotel. The elevators in the garage were open to the public and went all the way to all floors of the hotel. We felt very insecure late at night under these circumstances, particularly because there was no security to be seen and there were many vagrants in the area. The hotel is also on a main thoroughfare and near hospitals. As a result there were sirens all night.

Free parking, free internet (slow at times). However, the bedding (not the sheets) need to be cleaned more often. Very friendly staff.

This BW location is the bomb! Just a few blocks to the beach and then head north to hit Hollywood and LA. The hotel staff were helpful and professional. There is an IHOP right beside the hotel. We will stay here again.

Overall this was a great hotel for its location and price.My family and I stayed in the US for three weeks , and this was clearly one of the best.The staff were always there to help and provide advice,and perhaps the best that I encounted during my travels.The shuttle was great to have to get in and out of Santa Monica,and it was only a phone call away.In addition,the Hotel is situated approx 2miles out of Santa Monica,but this was never a problem,as the inhop is located next door with several restaurants only a couple of blocks away.In short,I will not hesitate to stay here again on my next visit.

If you are looking for a clean, affordable hotel in the L.A. vicinity, this Best Western will do nicely. The decor is a dull beige and the rooms are a bit claustrophobic, but the location is convenient and safe.

I had a great experience at BW Santa Monica. I stayed there because I was running the LA Marathon, which ends two miles away at the Santa Monica pier. The room was very clean and the service was excellent. There is a conveniently-located IHOP within the hotel, which will provide room service. The neighborhood around the hotel was just okay, but it is only a short two-mile walk to the beach, Santa Monica pier, and Third Street Promenade. All rooms are nonsmoking. My only complaint would be that the walls are very thin. I could hear it when the guest in the next room turned on the water in his bathroom. Also, I would recommend requesting a room that is NOT on the first floor. If you stay on the first floor, you can her ALL the conversations going on in the lobby, which is right at the end of the hall. VERY annoying when you're trying to get to sleep the night before a marathon! Overall excellent stay; I would stay there again.

The room was nicely renovated and staff were friendly and helpful -- easy check-in and check-out. My only warnings are that the hotel is in a fairly commercial neighborhood--lots of car dealerships and auto related stores, some fast food. Not the most attractive, but OK as long as you don't mind walking 20 minutes to downtown, or driving. The hotel lobby is pretty drab but Santa Monica is pricey, so this is value for the money. Just don't expect a pretty neighborhood and you'll be oK.

We loved the hotel. We needed to add an extra room and they were very flexible and accommodating. The free hotel shuttle was a huge blessing( small tip) The shuttle dropped us off by the 3rd street Promenade & Santa Monica Pier and would arrive back at the time we scheduled, super great!! IHOP restaurant is in the lobby, so we ordered breakfast as room service. Very reasonable, for a huge omelet, with pancakes or toast, plenty for two! We would go back and highly recommend Gateway !

Good value for money, clean room and comfortable. Good parking arrangements, no need for a key to the car park. Quite a long way from the shopping areas but easy with a car.

Only negative comment I would make is that the bathroom could be better lit. Otherwise if you are looking for a clean, good value hotel in a good Santa Monica location this is the one. This is the fourth time I have stayed at the gateway with my family and I have always had a very satisfactory stay. Staff are always polite and friendly and this year my daughter was given a free blow up atlas from the hotel which was a nice surprise. Also helps that it is right beside an international house of pancakes so you can get a good breakfast in the morning. As other reviewers have mentioned the carpet in the hallways is a bit worn but honestly if that's the worst thing then you are doing well!!

We found that the Best Western Plus Gateway Hotel to be conveniently located on Santa Monica Blvd. only a few blocks from the Promenade and the Santa Monica Pier. The hotel staff were friendly and accomodating and the rooms were comfortable with all the amenities. The Big Bus stop is located adjacent to the hotel for easy transportation around the area. Rather rather than an in-house breakfast room, the I Hop restaurant is opposite the front entry. There is also a sun deck and fitness room on the premises.

Overall a good choice, nothing terrible to say. Rooms were nice and clean.

i stay for work so convenient for route10 to la. Hotel is reasonable price and ok for santa monica for tourists. I travel considerably and find best western good value esp for car park and internet, although the internet here is very slow. One pet hate is the sheets - they smelt not so clean, dull and drab decor though could do with brightening up. Can be noisy at night as close to hospital.

Good comfortable hotel in the middle of town near all stores, restaurants, etc.

I booked this hotel knowing we were hardly going to spend any time there. Free parking, free wi-fi and easy access were other reasons. The hotel is pretty banged up. Looks like a lot of deferred maintenence. Housekeeping was not good about keeping their carts out of the walkways and they knocked on our door early, around 9:00. Our air conditioner was LOUD. With all the traffic noise outside and a stuffy room, we couldn't exactly shut if off. But the front desk was friendly and efficient. Bottom line, if I were staying more than one night in Santa Monica and spending any time in the room, I would book elsewhere.

I enjoyed my stay here. It was a little pricey considering there was no breakfast (IHOP next door though). This place was really just a place to spend the night, but because this was my first time in Santa Monica. Considering the hotel was about a mile and half away from the pier, the neigborhood seemed very nice, safe and clean and I found out later that there is a Starlite (LA bus tour) that stops at this location in case you want to take a tourist trip of LA, the price was actually spot on. I would stay here again. Room was small, but very comfortable. I was on the 4th floor and shared the balcony with other rooms. I also had coffee in the room which was nice. I was right outside of the elevator, but i did not hear any noise from outside.

Fine hotel. Trouble with wifi which was extremely important to us.. Seems like we were connected to a Wifi at another BW very far away. Spent hours trying to get good service. No reason why you can not provide coffee and muffins in the a.m.( Add a bite to the coffee you provide in room online I had difficulty , and actually was unable to enter our Best Western # for points. Did we lose out on points? I may stay there again. We have stayed at many BW's in Europe as well as USA. because you usually do a good job at a reasonable price. A very few tweaks and you will have more customers.

there was a bit of street noise on Friday night but we liked being able to open the window with it closed the noise would have decreased.

This was worth the drive down from San Luis Obispo. I was able to get to the Bergamot Station Art Galleries nearby without a problem. I was satisfied with this hotel. They should change the batteries on the remotes. The free Wifi was a bit slow.

The manager called me and confirmed that there was a mold problem in the bath of the room I complained about in a separate review here. He apologized and offered full restitution. I declined saying only one night of redress was warranted. He promised to send me a check and it arrived last week. Hotels.Com was nice enough to send me an update link so I could post this. The manager did not ask me to do this – but I thought it only right. I will definitely return to this hotel without any hesitation.
