All was super, one issue that we lost eye ring in the bathroom and needed technical guy to get it. To guys on reception started to help me only after pushing them! But other personel was very friendly and fine!

The hotel looked okay from the outside. We went in and checked in and got the magnetic room key that was hard to use. The elevator was the size of a coat closet and my husband and I had to squeeze in with our luggage. The room was not dirty, but in serious need of updating. The walls were thin and we could hear the people in the next room talking at 4am. The TV was old but worked. I am not a fan of the duel twin size comforters on the bed, but that seems to be typical in Europe. One night we came into the hotel and there was a drunk guy passed out in the hallway. The man working the front desk finally got him to leave but it still made it seem like a flea-bag motel. My last complaint is about the wifi. It was free as advertised, but in our room on the 3rd floor it was barely working. I had to go in the hallway just to connect and still it was one bar of service (on and off). I attempted to download a movie for the plane trip home and what normally takes 3 to 5 minutes took (literally) about 6 hours. The only good thing about ths hotel is that it is close to the ST. Pauli U-bahn station entrance. Would not stay there again.

The hotel is perfectly located in my opinion, 5 minute walk to St Pauli U Bahn, 10 minutes to Reeperbahn, the Hamburg museum and Planten un Blomen are a stones through, as are most of the key churches. It takes 20-30 minutes to walk to Landungsbrucken and U Bahn is easy to use if needs be. Other than location, this hotel does not have much to offer for the following reasons: 1. It has a funny smell, stale smoke. 2. The rooms are very small and dated. 3. The breakfast is mediocre at best (cheese, ham, bread). 4. The service is average, friendly but wouldnt go out of their way to help you. 5. The walls are literally paper thin, we could here every word our neighbours were saying and we felt we couldnt listen to music or talk without potentially disturbing someone. We were asked to be quite on New Years eve whn we returned to our room at 3am but the only noise we had made were toilet flushes and quiet conversation. 6. There is a bar but it is only open on weekends and is pretty naff. 7. The WIFI is slow and tempremental. It didnt help that we didnt find Hamburg that exciting anyway and would have perhaps wanted a hotel with more to offer as we spent a fair but of time there as the trip progressed and Hamburg's sights had left us less than entertained. For the price you pay for this hotel it would make more sense to look into staying at Motel One which is literally just around the corner and seems to be alot more modern and well turned out. We drank at the bar at Motel One a few times and just felt much more impressed.

We stayed for one night, booked mainly for it's great location to the U-Bahn station. Was easy to find. We arrived late at night after visiting many bars / gluhwien stops so don't recal the hotel in detail!! However, our stay was pleasant, bathroom was spacious as with room, bed was comfy. Wouldn't stay here for more than one night if you wanted to spent time in your hotel room but great for somewhere to rest your head after a busy day of visiting xmas markets. The only noise was from the breakfast staff doing the dishes or some would say, throwing them. but again for just one night, great.

Clean and very nice hotel, very good for a couple of days stay over, walking distance to harbour site and city centre, very good value. My compliments to all staff, very helpfull, friendly and yes i will return here if again visiting the Hamburg city. Great breakfas and a good sleep over. No Hotel bar for night time but than again plenty of bars in the area, Yes a recomendation to all visiting the city of Hamburg.

This hotel was depressing with the location and the stupid door locks they use (magnetic)! There was a lack of charm to the hotel -- not recommended for Hamburg first timers.

Very nice hotel with kind and helpful staff! Great location to fit our needs during the stay, close to the subway and so to all of Hamburg as well as to Reeperbahn and all the interesting stuff! No more than 15 minutes to walk to get to central Hamburg for shopping and travelling. Our room was very nice and had a new feel to it, no noise from outside traffic and everything in the room in very good shape! Breakfast was very pleasant as well as the very nice staff supplying the breakfast and really enjoyed their work. Only downside I can think of was that the rooms weren't that good sound isolated towards the corridor. Some noisy guests might wake you up, but the comfortable beds will get you back to sleep in no time! Will definitely stay at Novum Holstenwall when I'm in Hamburg next time!

We had a nice long weekend in one of the top floor rooms - Very nice and clean and the service was good. Really had a nice stay. Good breakfast by the way which is included. Can walk to almost everything ! So all positive from our side!

It is a very nice and clean hotel. Close to St. Pauli in 10 minutes walk so good for going out at night. In addition it only takes a nice 15-20 minutes walk and your are at the alster area and city center with shopping malls. Great location. Good value for money.

I would stay here again, as the benefits of the very copious breakfast and the free Wifi outweigh the mixture of rooms available. On our first night we moved from a smoking room facing the front to a non-smoking room also at the front. It was impossible to sleep as the main road has traffic on it all the time. For the next two nights we moved to a smaller room at the back but it was only quiet until another guest knocked on our door at 5.30am and after midnight, when I asked the people in the room next-door to keep the noise down. Security is a little haphazard in this respect. The final night was great though! Hamburg is a fantastic place to visit and from this location you could get anywhere really easily. Recommend the Ballinstadt Emigration museum and the Old Commercial Restaurant - 5 minutes walk from the the hotel - try the Lapskaus.

The desk clerks were MORE than helpful and very friendly. The location is great for the History of Hamburg Museum, and it was free on Sunday, and close to St. Michaels church, but you needed to LOVE to walk or be willing to taxi around otherwise. The subway was not REAL convenient, but again, if you're willing to walk - things are accessible. The continental breakfast was WAY overpriced for what they served - look for a deal with "all inclusive" or find another place to eat, or you will be hungry for lunch very soon. The room was a step above a hostel, the difference being - the bathroom was inside the room. I would rate this a 1 star at most, and would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a hotel. Way overpriced for a hotel, tho.

The Hotel am Holstenwall-Novum is a fine hotel but the location is what counts. It is a 5 minute walk to the Reeperbahn in Hamburg and 2 minutes walk from the St. Pauli S-Bahn station. This is a great selling point. The hotel itself is fine. Breakfast was included in my rate and breakfast was traditional German buffet with a large assortment of cold items and a few hot items. The elevator is small but it works fine. The room was average but very clean. The bed was comfortable, bed frame was Malm from Ikea! The ancient safe in the hotel room looked complicated but was easy to use and worked fine. The bathroom was clean but small. Typical 1 square meter shower, no tub. The hotel still uses actual metal keys and you leave them at the front desk when you leave. They give you a small card to show as ID to get the key back when you return. Some may not like this, but it works perfectly in my opinion, and as a man, I don't want to try and carry a large key in my pocket. Set your expectations for an average, 3 star, independent hotel and your needs will be met. No more, no less.

The rooms were big for Europe standards and very clean. It is a great choice for budget minded travelers. Front desk was extremely helpful. Cab to airport only cost 22,5 Euros.

Very comfortable hotel, excellent location. Close to St. Pauli/Reeperbahn (10min walk), and also very close to Michaeliskirche (3min walk) and Landungsbrucken (where the boats for the harbor trip depart, 10min walk). Very nice restaurants and parks in walking distance to the hotel. Probably the best location and the best value for money you can get in Hamburg.

Right across the street is an excellent museum, perhaps the best in Hamburg. St. Micheal church 5 minutes walk is beautiful. 30 minute walk from the convention center. Easy walk to the water front, take a canal ride. A 40-60 minute walk from city hall area, which was spared the allied bombers. $8EU cab ride to the artgallery/train station. For those adventurous, 20 minute walk from the beginning of the reeperbahn/redlight district.

Nice little hotel with a great included breakfast.

Clean, cheap and a very generous breakfast was included, which I didn't realise when I booked it, so that was an added bonus. It was all vey clean with pleasant staff who spoke good English. Walking distance to several underground stops, the harbour and opposite the Hamburg History Museum. I went for a concert at the Laeiszhalle, which is only a 5-10 minutes walk. There are opening windows and you can control the heating yourself. Personally I like to be able to make a hot drink in the room, but there are no facilities, but a kind member of staff made me a coffee when I arrived mid afternoon, All in all a pleasant 2 night stay

Located between the city center and St. Pauli entertainment district, across from Hamburg Museum and the green ring, it is a simple, relatively inexpensive and convenient place to stay at.

Excellent location five minutes walk from St Pauli U in one direction and quality shops in another. Pleasant little park across the road. Sound value for money. The hotel looks to be quite old and major work to the roof was being undertaken when we visited (September 2009). Hopefully, turnover will be enough to meet this cost and maintain standards for visitors. Decent buffet breakfast at 12.50 Euro. One tiny complaint - we had a late evening drink in the bar and the pleasant candlelit ambience was somewhat punctured by commercial radio playing through the speakers of the sort one is accustomed to hearing in mens barbers. We asked why appropriate music could not be played and were told that radio was the only available source of music - this needs changed quickly!

Stayed for 2 nights,as a stop over in hamburg,the hotel has a great location easy access from the u barn and the international airport,across the road from the botanical gardens which are great to stroll through and a 10 minute walk from the redlight district if you fancy a laugh,the hotel is extremely clean and well appointed even if the room is a little tight on walking around space,we would certainly stay again and have no hesitation in recommending it to other travellers.

Clean, very friendly staff, helpful with directions and eager to entertain my German speaking (though everyone I met spoke English). The breakfast downstairs was convenient, but hardly worth eleven euros. Also, there was construction outside my window which woke me up both mornings, so ask if construction is still going on or for a room away from the noise. Good experience, convenient, safe location.

great location, clean rooms, friendly staff

Hotel am Hostenwall is *not* a posh, resort, boutique, fancy hotel. But, it is close to the underground train line and a nice park. I feel this hotel was good for the price. The roof is still being worked on, but I didn't notice any noise since I stayed on the 1st floor. Ask for a lower floor.

Hotellet ligger godt i et meget roligt kvarter, og det meste er inde for gå-afstand. Absolut en god placering hvis man skal lidt rundt i byen. Værelset var ikke noget særligt (heller ikke dårligt). Et minus er dog, at hotellet ikke har parkering. Det er dog muligt at parkere ude ved vejen (gratis efter fredag kl 18), og der skulle også være et parkeringshus i nærheden.

Helhetsbetyg OK. Är ni bara ute efter att bo så är detta ett helt OK hotell. Hotellet ligger nära St. Pauli och nära tunnelbanan in till centrum, dit 15 minuters promenad också tar er. Frukosten varje sämre än det tyska genomsnittet. Jag brukar haussa den tyska frukosten. Förvänta er inget speciellt av detta hotell

Udmærket weekendophold, hvor vi fik et godt indtryk af Hamburg ved floden og alle byens parker omkring Binnen Alster med gode forretninger og busforbindelser, der kørte rundt i byen hele dagen, hvor vi kunne stå af og på, som vi ville.

Hotellet och rummet var vid en första anblick jättebra, men tyvärr låg mitt rum mot gatan och eftersom hotellet ligger alltför nära Reperbahn så stördes jag väldigt mycket av skrik och skrän från passerande personer. Trafiken utanför hotellet är också tät och störande. Men, får man ett rum mot gården så är detta verkligen ett fynd.

Tolles IKEA-Style Hotel, sehr sauber, verkehrsgünstig gelegen, für den bazahlten Preis absolut zufrieden, Frühstück sah sehr einladend aus, konnten es aber wegen einer nächtlichen Tour nicht geniessen

Udemærket hotel, der ligger meget centralt mellem centrum og St. Pauli, så alt er nærmest i gåafstand. Jeg har boet på 2 forskellige etmandsværelser. De er små, men tjener formålet. Dog savner jeg et køleskab på værelset. Morgenmadsbuffeten er også udemærket og personalet er venligt og hjælpsomt.

Das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis dieses Hotels ist optimal. Neben der super zentralen Lage, sind alle wichtigen Aspekte des Hotels zufriedenstellend. Einzig störten uns Haare des Vorgängers in der Dusche, aber die konnten ja heruntergespült werden =)

Rigtig god modtagelse og meget fine værelser. Morgenmaden var ok, men der kunne godt være lidt mere variation i brødet. Lidt køligt i rummet til morgenmaden, og rummet kunne godt friskes lidt op. Hotellet ligger i gå afstand til Havn, søerne og indkøbs muligheder. Rigtig god hotel til prisen.

Bra hotell med centralt läge bra service och städning varje dag Frukost ingår inte, ganska dyr Parkeringsgarage finns i närheten men det går att parkera gratis i närområdet.

Super hotel! God beliggenhed. Vi skulle besøge Salon, på Hamburg museum, så det var dejligt tæt på, lige over for. Dernæst ville vi se havnen og lidt af byen. Generelt et rigtig godt hotel vi vil vende tilbage til. Det var et rigtig lækkert værelse på 5. Sal. Pænt i stand, knapt så god udsigt, men det var vi ligeglade med. Vi kunne dog se det flotte tårn på Sct. Michaelis kirke- som klart er et besøg værd!

Der var dog lidt problemer da vi tjekke ud, om morgenmaden var med i prisen eller ej, men de lod os komme tvivlen tilgode, og morgenmaden var derfor med i prisen.

Sijainti hyvä St.Paulin ja ostosparatiisien valissä lähellä St.Paulin metroasemaa.
