Nice bistros in neighbourhood. Very quiet surroundings. Charming cafes. Trendy bar. A must stay hotel.

This hotel was so fantastic. So cool with the film theme. The rooms are cozy and very clean, with access to a wide selection of movies and Crabtree & Evelyn bath products. I can't wait to come back. Very cool!

The hotel's service stands out as exemplary; staff were uniformly helpful, responsive and cheerful. The room was comfortable and stylishly furnished, though we expected a larger room for the price. Meals at the bistro were also pricey, but the cafe was a fabulous value. I recommend it for a romantic trip, but I plan to revert to equally acceptable business hotels at half the price on my next trip.

Fantastic stay at Hotel Rival - couldn't fault it....a must stay if heading to Stockholm!

Very pleasant Hotel, staff very welcoming and attentive. The room was a little on the small side for me but comfortable nevertheless. The location just south of the old town (10m walk) and the main shopping centre a further 10m walk was just fine. Though on a Friday night, this is a popular club/restaurant/bar area, we did encounter quite a few loud inebriated people doing things you may not care to see on the street. Did not bother me but the wife did not like it!. Otherwise, great hotel and great customer service.

Hotel Rival is a short walk away from the Mariatorget metro station (about one block). The hotel overall has a very unique design, and the bar area is especially cool. The rooms are small by North American standards, but similar in size to hotel rooms in a large European city. Our room had a CD/DVD player with speakers in both the bedroom and bathroom - more enjoyable than I would have expected. The pillow menu was not particularly useful. Overall, an excellent hotel. The price is hefty, but there are other hotels in Stockholm that would provide better value.

What a nice surprise! While probably not for 'first timers' to Stockholm (it's not right in the centre of things), this hotel is great for people who know the city a little and would like a more 'local' neighbourhood. A bit like Brooklyn in NY. Very friendly/professional people on the desk. Lovely spacious room (6th floor) and bathroom - we loved it. Cafe downstairs is also excellent and lots of nice/funky shops nearby. An ok/easy walk to Gamla Stan and the city, there are good transport options too. We will definitely go back to this hotel!

Great Hotel and love this SoFo district. Rooms are modern and very comfortable. It was our favorite Hotel in our travels to Demark,sweden, and Norway. Only downfall is no meal included and eating out is expensive. Rival cafe was good food but like every were it is pricey for US standards.

This hotel is beautifully designed and very clean. The rooms are nice sized, my husband and I had more than enough room to move around and house our vast amount of luggage and new purchases. This hotel is right in the heart of Sodermalm, just a block's walk from the train station, and within walking distance of many shops and restaurants. I highly recommend this hotel.

The location, physical spaces, and staff of the Rival were perfect for my two day visit to Stockholm. The hall decorations were attractive. The room (even though it was one of the smaller ones) on the fourth floor was airy and the bathroom was ample. At the end of the hall on the fourth floor was an espresso machine and a stockpile of cookies, both of which were much appreciated. On a desk next to the espresso machine were two computers linked to a printer, which also proved useful.

We loved everything about the Hotel Rival. We loved the staff, the free breakfast on weekends, and the free coffee/ latte/ tea/ cookie bar as well as the free wi-fi. But most of all, we loved its theatre theme and the 100 movies passed out to guests on request. Our room was decorated with a huge print from a Bergman movie and we found out that Mamma Mia previewed in the theatre inside the hotel. When we went on the Millenium Tour, we discovered that almost every important event connected to the Stieg Larsson series, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo . . . , takes place within blocks of this hotel. We loved the convenience of it being in the most happening part of Stockholm: Sodermalm and being so close to the Red subway line.

We were very happy with the hotel. Food nearby & a nice dining room upstair & bar. Everything was new & updated. Across the street from a small park with a fountain. within walking distance of everything. Everyone spoke English. The staff was very accommodating and polite. We live in Florida, USA so 'your hot' is not 'our hot'. We would have preferred your normal low 70's for the high, but 80's is still cooler that what we have in the summer. Stockholm in general is very friendly, clean and we enjoyed it very much. Thank you!

Very good hotel in a great location. The attached bakery makes the best croissants in the world. As with many Scandinavian hotels, air conditioning is limited - the only (slight) drawback.

In addition to having all the nice features one would expect of a 4 or 5 star hotel, the Rival was absolutely the quietest room we've ever stayed in! We never heard a car, a person, a toilet flush - nothing! - and our room was on the street side with a park across the street. One of the nicest hotels we're ever stayed in - be sure to ask for room 606!!! When making a reservation at the Rival, be sure to ask for a room with A/c - not all rooms have it and if temps are in the 80's like it was last week, you'll want it!! A fan just doesn't cut it.....

It was our first visit to Stockholm to see our son who now lives and works there. We were not disappointed. The city is fascinating and The Rival was a very lucky find. We had a quiet room overlooking the courtyard, and that room was the most comfortable I have ever stayed in - the beds, fixtures, fittings, especially the bathroom were wonderful. On the 4th floor, access to iced water, coffee etc. were a real bonus. One on each floor might be an idea for the future. The staff were all very friendly. We had breakfast in the hotel every day during our short stay, and the quality was first rate. Everything in Stockholm seems extremely expensive to us in the current climate, as it was in the Rival, but that was the only downside. Situated opposite the Maria gardens, this was a perfect location to sit and enjoy the fountain and statues, a lovely shady spot. We even played the ABBA CD - good fun.

We enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Rival. The people at the front desk were extremely helpful in suggesting restaurants. Every place they recommended was delicious! They were all so friendly and nice. They really made our stay memorable. The design of the hotel is very hip - probably the coolest hotel I have ever stayed at. The bar and lounge areas were great. Yet again, we had excellent service from the bartenders. Our room was small, but very clean and nice. The design kind of reminded me of a cabin on a ship. A couple of minor complaints on the room itself: 1) it didn't have any overhead lighting and the lamps were not very good, so it was a little dark in there at night, 2) there wasn't a mirror in the room itself, only in the bathroom, which created a bit of a timing problem for us, as I would have liked to do my hair and make up in the room while my husband showered, and 3) the trash can in the bathroom had a lid that had to be pulled up by hand, which was inconvenient and a little gross and annoying. But, like I said, the room was nice overall. Just a couple of minor things that could be improved on. The location of the hotel was excellent. It's a short walk to Old Town. Also, it's a short walk to catch a ferry to go to the Vasa Museum area. Cab rides to various places are not too expensive either, so if you don't feel like walking, the hotel will call you a cab. We would definitely stay at the Hotel Rival again!

We stayed at the Rival for 3 nights last week and were very happy with it. The room was a reasonable size and well kitted-out. We didn't have inclusive breakfast but the Cafe Rival next door was good for breakfasts. Ate once in the restaurant which was pricey (it's Sweden after all), but really excellent food. Staff were friendly and helpful. We may not stay here again (for variety) but would recommend to others.

excellent hotel, new and fresh, clean and in a nabourhood that is exiting and a bit different from the rest of Stockholm

I was there with my wife for a couple of nights. Rooms were brilliantly designed and comfortable. Staff were also great. The bakery cafe was cool and was well used by the chic locals. We have stayed in many hotels around the world and I can honestly say this was one of the most memorable.

The Hotel Rival is truly an experience. The decor and ambience is unlike any hotel I've stayed in. The staff is very friendly and the small touches like the ABBA cds in your room and the free movies were also great. The only problem was our room was the size of my closet. If the dvd player was out from the tv you had to walksideways. We noticed on the floor plan posted in our room that our room was considerably smaller than others. I would stay here again but first ask about the room size. This is really a fun hotel!!!

Rival has got really friendly, helpful staff and a fantastic bar and restaurant area. It is also really well located for evening walks, bars and cafes. Bit less impressed by the Rival Cafe, although this might be more about my typical gripe about lack of table service in Stockholm. The room was fairly functional but nice and I love the little free extras that take the hassle out of your day, like coffee and tea stations, free printing, free WiFi. Lovely.

Very clean & beautiful hotel. Great design and very friendly staff that will help find you great restuarants around the city for you. Walking distance to SoFo, Galma Stan, nightlife, etc. Highly recommend.

This trendy hotel is really nice in avery aspect. Service is very good, and is well located. Rooms are a little small but nice. Anyway, the comfort is ok. My experience was on my expectations, and the hotel is highly recommended.

Snyggt, rent och fräscht! Framförallt väldigt trevlig och tillmötesgående personal. Tycker kanske dock att frukosten (som för övrigt var mycket bra) borde ingå i priset. Bor gärna där igen.

Trist attityd i baren. Snorkig receptionspersonal. Slutpriset överensstämde inte med bokningspriset utan var högre. Störande trafik på gatan. Sunkigt badrum med smutsiga fogar runt mosaiken. Duschmunstycket igengrott. Värst av allt är ändå usel attityd hos personalen. Med 100 hotellnätter varje år över hela världen har jag lite att jämföra med, Rival räddas enbart av designen.

Vilken underbar upplevelse vi hade på Hotell Rival. Vi började med fika i cafet under tiden champagnen var på kylning därefter drack vi varsitt glas på rummet som var helt underbart med alla bekvämligheter man kan önska samt otroligt fräscht. På kvällen gick vi ut och åt en helt fantastisk middag sen i säng. Man sov mycket skönt i sängarna och det var helt tyst på hotellet. Morgonen efter gick vi på Nationalmuseum efter det att vi ätit en mycket god frukost på hotellet. Härligt!

Södermalm er mykje trivelegare og meir laidback enn området rundt übertrendige Stureplan, og Hotel Rival er eit bra bualternativ her. Lekre, men små rom med utruleg gode senger, fin bar og overstrømmande service. Det ligg koseleg til ved Mariatorget og er i gangavstand til gode restaurantar, kule barar og bra shopping. Anbefalast varmt! Tips: Dado restaurant - ein vakker indisk restaurant med utradisjonell meny - som ligg ein kort spasertur unna.

Trevligt och bra beläget hotell med bra bar. Sköna sängar och härliga kuddar samt tyst o lugnt. Frukosten ingick inte vilket var irriterande. Äta måste man ju.

Mycket bra standard på all inredning och design. Frukosten har allt man kan begära med fint panorama mot Mariaparken. Jag kommer gärna tillbaka närsomhelst. Hälsn Stefan J
