The Lumen, a Kimpton Hotel - دالاس

We visited our son who is an SMU student and his apartment is nearby the hotel. Very convenient location for us, and very pleasantly decorated foyer. The staff is young and very accomodating, The room was clean , new and spacious bathroom and had all the necessary things. A noisy group, probably drunks, woke us up around 2am one night and we had to call the front desk. After that, it was very quiet.

Hotel is very convenient to Southern Methodist University, which is why I stayed there. It is a modern hotel with very little character. There is very little room to park when being picked up or dropped off. Lobby is sterile and there is no snack bar or food choices available in the hotel. See 7/11 down the street. Except for the proximity to SMU, I would not stay there again.

I loved the Lumen, enough said!!!

Honestly, I cannot say enough good about this property. Friendly, convenient, gay and lesbian friendly and love pets. We had a great stay directly across the street from SMU. Near shops, restaurants, galleries, and clubs. Even with the construction of a new section of the hotel, it was quiet...and the free coffee in the lobby a hit in the morning. Will be looking for Klimpton properties in the future...and no, I do not work for them.

Construction during our stay - not told of this when we booked. Drinks in bar were short pours - literally not full glasses. Laissez faire attitude from the staff. If this was the first Kimpton property I stayed at, I'd have never stayed at another. Try the Palomar instead.

Typical Kimpton experience: they treat you like family at a reasonable price. Would definitely recommend it to others.

We are frequently in Dallas for a night or two and always stay in a Lumen Suite. The convenience of refridgerator and microwave in the kitchen area is important to us. You have to call the desk, but they will send up a coffee maker on a tray with everything you need for morning coffee. We love the Park Cities/SMU neighborhood and the balconies on the suites in the old building.

The staff makes this styling little hotel; they are friendly and service oriented in a non-pretentious way. The location is sweet if you don't want to be in the downtown area, right across the street from SMU in the old-money Highland Park neighborhood. I enjoyed both the complimentary morning coffee and evening wine/beer offerings. I requested a goldfish and was promptly brought one but I didn't think it was normal that it was floating upside down on it's belly gasping for breath, so the staff brought me a healthier that brightened my room for my 3-day stay. The only negative was there was some construction going on in an expansion of the hotel that started as early as 6:30 am, disturbing any chance to sleep in. All in all, the Lumen is another small Kimptoon gem and reconfirmed my delight in staying at Kimpton properties.

I was very disappointed when I arrived in my room to find out that I was in an interior room, NO WINDOWS. I am claustrophobic so this was really upsetting. The hotel was full so they could not give my another room. This is something that should be mentioned when booking a room.

This hotel is in a great location and everything was what you look for in a boutique style hotel. Service was top notch! The one complaint we had, was the faucet in the bath tub took way too long to fill the tub. By the time there was enough water to get in, it was cold. Other than that one item, this hotel is great! Showers are amazing and HUGE! This was our 2nd time staying here and we will definitely be back.

This hotel is cute and boutique-y, with great bathrooms and amenities. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I will, however, never be staying here again because on the floor of the hotel restaurant, I saw the largest cockroach I have ever seen in my LIFE. I get that everything is bigger in Texas, but...

Overall our hotel room was nice. However, itwould have helped to have a mirror in the bedroom. Was hard to dress (make-up, etc.) in the bedroom when my husband was in the shower or bathroom. Should be an easy fix.

5 star hotel at a 3 star price in my opinion. The service was excellent. Make sure you have a valet key for your car, because somehow my regular key got cracked (no big deal, I have another at home), but otherwise this place is swanky. And fantastically located.

A small hotel with Big rooms, personal service and pet friendly. So nice that I did not want to leave.

The service at the hotel is absolutely second-to-none. The value for the price is absolutely superb; you'll be paying approximately twice as much to stay at the nearby Palomar. Rooms were comfortable, clean and stylish. The location is also phenomenal - you are literally a couple of hundred steps away from the SMU campus and near plenty of wonderful restaurants, attractions and neighborhoods. I would recommend Hotel Lumen very, very highly.

Nice staff and the excellent location makes up for the need to valet park! Everyone learned my name instantly. My room was very, very quiet. So I really hate to picky but.... Being named Lumen, you'd think the rooms would have more light! Like many other trendy boutique hotels, the room was dark with pools of light. There was a light switch by the bed which I always appreciate. All in all it was lovely, but more of a decorative statement , than a comfortable guest room. Not a place where I would want to spend much time. The purpose of my trip was not to stay in the hotel, and in the light of that, I wish they would make dressing easier. My room was spacious enough. However, the armoire that functioned as a closet was filled with courtesy robes and snacks and held the minibar. The room safe was also located in the armoire, but was low. And despite having two double beds, and limited closet space, the room had only one luggage rack. I am sure I could have asked for a second. My principle gripe, beyond inadequate lighting, was not having a full length mirror. There was only one mirror located over the sink. It was hard for two people to dress at the same time. Almost impossible to see below my knees. Thank goodness I don't wear half slips or seams in my hose. The elegant, and no doubt expensive, tile in the shower was chipped, but the water temperature and pressure were excellent. The towels, we flat but amazingly absorbent. There were two bathmats, very thoughtful. The sheets were crisp and clean and the mattress was perfect and there was only one decorative pillow to deal with. Everyone was exceedingly nice. The coffee was less strong than I like, but there was a choice of milk or cream. There were plenty of newspapers and the lobby was cheerful and inviting. I was never there for the wine. Many of the guests were repeat visitors and friendly and I felt very safe. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again! I would recommend it to others.

The people at the hotel are not friendly and are judgemental. The hotel smells like mold and smoke. It has a weird vibe. I did not feel comfortable there and would discourage anyone from staying here!!!

Great place but had trouble with the smell of this non smoking hotel smelling like smoke. Had to get the room deodorized. Otherwise, it was nice.

Not impressed at all. Clean, conveniently located to the university but room amenities. Staff is nice. The lobby and the facility truly lack flair. Not a great value for the room rating. Wish I could say something more positive.

The hotel was a decent design but the rooms were so basic and no cell phone coverage/ My room service ordered was overpriced and had many mistakes. I would never stay here again

I have stayed at Kimpton hotels in NOLA, DC and now, Dallas and all of the stays were great. With Kimpton, the hallways are tight, the rooms can be small and there is usually only one elevator. Furniture is attractive and comfortable, locations are good and service is great. If you can stay at a Kimpton for the right price then you are in the best situation possible. This hotel was away from I-75 and a block away from SMU. It looks almost like an apartment building. There is a restaurant in the hotel but there are other great eateries within a mile or less. The interesting thing about the weekend we were in town was that the Lumen was less per night than the Palomar (another Kimpton property). I found the Lumen to be in a better location, as the Palomar was right next to I-75. Solid choice for a hotel.

Thermostat was hidden behind a lamp that did not work due to faulty outlet. Room needed more space to store clothing and luggage. Staff was friendly and the wine reception was appreciated.

I arrived at 10am and they let me do an early check in. Staff was very kind and if you need anything they'll make sure you get it. Rooms are big, comfortable bed, nice decor, super cool bathroom. The only negative thing was sometimes you could hear people or doors outside, but nothing to worry about. Got a great deal at hotels.com. Do not hesitate to stay here!

It was my first time to stay at the Lumen and I will definitely be back. The location is great and there was an overnight parking lot next door, which was convenient. The service was outstanding and we were very satisfied with the quality of the room! We had a king suite and the bed was very comfy and the shower was great - although there isn't much privacy with the shower opening up into the room. Definitely recommend this property!

If you are looking for a small sleepy hotel with all the luxury of a large flashy one, then this is the spot. Staff is fantastic and attentive to requests. Rooms are spacious, and updated. Styling is new and modern without being over done. Neigborhood is fantastic and quiet. My wife and I have stayed here multiple times and will continue to look return visits whenever we are staying overnight in Dallas. Great Job Hotel Lumen and Kimpton.

Looking at it, it looks more like a dorm. But inside was a comfortable, business style hotel. I'm not overly fond of the Kimptom brand as they spend more time trying to appear chic rather than providing service. Service at Lumen was however most acceptable and far better than the other Kimpton offering in Dallas, the Palomar.

This is a hotel that tries to be hip on a shoestring budget in one of the the nicest parts of Dallas. Unfortunately, the price was the same as the price I paid two weeks earlier at the Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans' French Quarter--a very fine hotel. It is downright ugly from the street, with somewhat difficult to see signage, and the view from my room was of a building that appeared to be abandoned. There couldn't be a worse view in all of Highland Park. The carpet was very wrinkled and needed to be stretched or replaced. There was very little closet space. The bathroom was nice enough, obviously remodeled, but for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to work the jets in addition to the shower head--maybe they didn't work. I was especially disappointed because my wife has stayed at another Kimpton hotel and liked it. Do yourself a favor and stay at a nearby Courtyard or something similar. Nicer hotel for much less money (and a complementary breakfast), and they are not far away.

The way the hotel is designed there are 3 rooms for every 1 major door off of the main hallway. The doors are so large and heavy, that you not only hear the doors slamming from within the 3 rooms but then you hear the other main door to the hallway slamming. The constant slamming of doors did not lead to very restful sleep. In addition, there was early morning road work (5am) going on that I was not made aware of by the hotel. This lead to the sound of road construction directly 2 floors below my room going on. I was not made aware of this at the time of check-in.

This was a great little place - highly recommend the restautant. Staff was friendly and helpful! Super experience over all!

The room was clean but it was kind of an odd little hotel; definitely not 5 star. The room was quite a bit smaller than we expected (the bathroom was so awkward that you couldn't move around without moving the doors around). The site said we would have a balcony but instead we had a window looking out at a graffiti covered building. We won't stay there again - too many other choices.

Location is in a nice area near SMU.They welcome dogs, which I love. Rooms look nice, but a tad bit small. Restrooms look great, but I wish the sliding door would close all the way. Would be nice if we didn't have to pay for parking, especially since it's not in the middle of downtown.
