Excellent hotel, clean and with extremely friendy staff. Very convenient location.

This hotel is in a wonderful location and is central to the Bund, the East Nanjing Rd pedestrian area and easy reach of the French Concession area. The rooms are large and comfortable. We booked well in advance and got a very good rate. The breakfast is not cheap but there is a cafe around the corner selling coffee and croissants and the hotel has its own Starbucks. A great place to stay.

Excellent hotel...good value for money. I extended twice which involved repeated booking via travel agent to obtain the same rate which was tedious. Restaurant/buffet on first floor absolutely first class. Restaurant manager ( I think her name is Ada) is to be congratulated on her customer skills and friendly smile, always made me feel welcome. Second floor restaurant ( Chinese) staff not as good, made me feel as though I was a bother to them, especially as I do not speak much Chinese. They need to take some lessons from Ada in customer service.

You can view Nanjing Road from the hotel. Walking distance to the BUND and Train Station. Plenty of food to explore around the Hotel.

This was our second stay at this hotel. As last time good service frim the staff and the room was clean and comfortable. Perfectly located in the middle of Shanghai, close to Nanjing East Lu and Ren Min Square. Our next stay in Shanghai will also be at this hotel. 5 star with very good value for money.

Dirty old bathrooms. rooms were ok but 2 - 3 star at best.

The hotel was great and the location is perfect for Shanghai but the only thing i did not like was the bed was very hard, not comfortable at all.

If you need the internet, stay elsewhere. i like this place and the new starbucks, but last 2 stays had bad internet.

We first booked a Buisness room and then decided to change to a Business Suite because it costs only a little bit more. Very spacious with the sitting room (and a second separate toilet). The main bathroom is luxurious and spacious. The location is a short walk from the main shopping street Nanjing East.

We were very impressed with nearly everything at this hotel. The service and general helpfulness of the staff was much appreciated particularly as there were very few English speakers in the general population. The only complaint would be that the beds were a little hard.

This is my third stay in this hotel. I would thoroughly recommend. Good location, staff fabulous and hotel rooms are great.

You simply cant get better value for your money in Shanghai. Great location, service is beyond expectations. Not great views and it might need some renovations, but rooms are clean and comfortable.

No complains, stay was smooth, didn't notice anything exceptional. However location on map on the website is wrong - it should be 2 streets south of Century Square along Nanjing East Road walking street, around 7 min leisurely walk to both People's Square station and Nanjing East Road station

The hotel is located one block off a major pedestrian shopping area but the room was still quiet on the 20th floor. It is a few blocks from the subway entrance. The room was nice enough but the bed was very hard.

Highly recommended as this hotel located in the middle of Shanghai's famous neon lights walk/foot path and within walking distance to Bund ! All taxi drivers knows this hotel by their chinese name "'Gu Xiang Da Ju Dian"'. All their staff are friendly and efficient too. Will definately return to this hotel again.

Really bad service. Have reported to the Reception that one of our rooms #1227 that the Air Cond. not working. They have sent two people to have a look and did nothing, just ask us to open the window all day. Shanghai' temperature is around 29 C and facing the busy street, really not a pleasant stay with the money I paid for so called 4 star hotel.

With the hotel actually overlooking one of the squares along the Nanjing Rd Pedestrian St. We were pleased we paid extra for the Business rm for the higher floor and view out of the neons at night and the individual groups exercising in the morning- one group with colourful fan at the same time! Rm and lounge were in good decor and state. Regarding hardness the bed was ideal for us. We took the buffet breakfast for just over 100RMB each and find there was very a good choice of Asian and Western options both hot an cold with a number chef manned stns to prepare fresh dishes. Worth it if you have time and appetite. The hotel was a last minute choice - it will be one of our first on our next visit.

The Hotel was perfect for us. Hotel staff were very helpful. On way in from airport they managed to talk us in from a nearby railway station. Location was central to all that we wanted to do in Shanghai. We were able to get out and about around the city and into a little of the nearby countryside with ease, using the hotel as our base.

I stayed at this hotel on business. It is centrally located to the downtown area. Lots of places to eat nearby and a "walking street" right outside the door. The beds were not the most comfortable, very hard. They provide in room internet for Free, probably because they have a technical problem with the incoming cable connection. Problem is it only works about 25% of the time. You shouldn't be fooled that you'll get anything for free in China! Overall a friendly and reasonably nice stay.

This is the place to stay in Shanghai, rates were very reasonable, location is excellent and the staff was more than helpful. Highly recommendable

This hotel is always a "sure bet" for me whenever I'm in Shanghai. Convenient to shopping and historical sites you're within walking distance of Temples, street vendors and Gucci, whatever you want. Staff and facilities are first rate although beds are a little hard for me. Hotel restaurants are good but would always recommend sampling the Shanghai restaurants, they are some of the best.

the original room smelled of smoke, so I had to move. Also, the room was always quite hot, and the aircon had been switched -off so it did not really cool down unless I opened the window which brought another set of challenges. Wireless internet is terrible as well. Gym is spacious, but no tv's on treadmills.

This Howard Johnson's is good and could be great if the staff had above minimal language skills. The result is an upscale property in a great location, but below average service for non-Chinese speaking guests. A good command of English would have rendered a front desk snafu a minor mistake, but instead it took quite a while and some frustration to resolve. Otherwise, the rooms are very nicely appointed and comfortable. The breakfast buffet is pricey, but very convenient and well done. One morning I arrived in the dining area about five minutes before they opened at six a.m. At exactly 6:00 the lights all came on and a big band swing version of "The Can't That Away from Me" blasted through the room. You gotta love China!

HoJo in Shanghai is about a second tier hotel, (compared to the most expensive places). It's still expensive relative to a "Chinese" 4 star hotels but it really is a nicer hotel in terms of how clean it is, upkeep, etc. The location is good, but Shanghai has so many areas no 1 location is really perfect, and cabs are dirt cheap. Last the beds were only ok, (a lot of hotel beds are bad in Shanghai).

great location for everything. hotel is kept in good condition and very clean. would stay at this hotel if i go back to the city.

I stayed at the HoJo in Shanghai for five nights on business. Location was great - close to Metro, Bund, E. Nanjing Rd, People's Square. The only problem I had was being constantly propositioned for prostitutes and "genuine Gucci bags" as soon as I stepped of the property. If you like that sort of thing you're in luck. Staff was friendly and helpful with check-in, cabs, etc. Room was clean and had all the usual amenities of a western hotel. Mattresses were quite firm, internet service was fast, the shower water pressure was great but the temp constantly fluctuated between scalding and cold. Breakfast had a good variety of eastern and western food and was good quality. Overall, for the price I would stay here again.

Pros: Location and general cleanliness of the room was good. Reasonably priced. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Cons: or some reason we were unable to adjust room temperature as the control could not go lower than around 23degrees Celsius. Hotel corridors also felt a bit stuffy and warm during the night (perhaps on some energy saving plan?) Nail/pin protruding from under the room carpet can cause harm

It is one of the best hotels in Shangai with the best location for leisure or business.The staff is friendly and very efficient;The only remark I would make is about the bed mattress which is somehow hard;

We have just returned from a week at this hotel and the only complaint we have is the bed was a typical HARD Chinese bed. Everything else was fantastic. The room was spotless the maid service first class.We ate at the buffet breakfast and were delighted with the selection, anyone who could find anything to moan about must be used to eating gold plated eggs! The staff in the restaurant were brillaind and could not do enough to help. One evening we went to the buffet and were a bit disgusted to fing 4 kids running riot and running around the food area, playing with food on a vacant table and generally being pains whilst their families ate and ignored them. One word to the hostess and she had no more to do than ask the parents to take control of their kids or leave. The only thing to make note of is the special offer for the buffets, it states buy 3 buffets only pay for 2. We took this to mean go twice and the third timw will be free. No. If 3 poeple go you only pay for 2, we should have befriended one of the many solo diners! Location is great, 5 mins from East Nanjing Rd Metro or Peoples Square, we went all over the city on the metro and it is cheap and reliable, the ticket machines are in English and very easy to understand, we didn,t realise though that you could buy a day traveller ticket. We ate in the revolving restaurant in the Radisson and the view was superb, it was expensive but as it was a special occasion it was well worth it. Taxis are also cheap and plentiful, get one from the hotel and they will make sure the driver knows exactly where he is going. For anyone interested in the Aerospace Museum do note they haven't built it yet. We went on the metro got off at the museum stop and were at the end of the line without a museum in sight, we laughed fit to burst when we found out not a brick had been laid! In Yu Yuan gardens area we ate at the CSS restaurant on the first floor of the new centre directly opposite, what a value for money set meal that was. Fant

We stayed 5 nights in September while visiting Shanghai for the World Expo. Got upgraded to a business suite which gave us a lot of space with a separate sitting room, 2 TVs, free WiFi and a separate shower and tub in the bathroom. It had a great view of Nanjing Road too. The only complaint I had with the room was the lack of a safe and cabinet space for clothes. The refrigerator was pretty tiny too. Despite this, my valuables were pretty much safe in the room and we didn't have any problem with our things. The hotel is right in the middle of Nanjing Rd East and is halfway between the 2 subway stations-Nanjing Road East and People's Square. From the hotel, it was quite far to walk all the way to the Bund but it was a 5-10 min easy walk to Metro exit 14 at People's Square which we took to Xintiandi and Metro Expo line. (We took the back roads getting to exit 14 so we could avoid the crowds on Nanjing Rd. You can also pass this way to get to the Shanghai Museum and Urban Planning Museum.) The front desk was very helpful in exchanging money and asking for Chinese names to the places you want to visit. Check out was hassle-free and very, very fast. We just went down to the front desk and in 5 minutes, we were done and getting into a cab for the airport. All in all, a great stay! I wouldn't hesitate to use this hotel again.

Location is convenient. Close to subway, the bund, and Nan Jing East Road (shopping district). Room is clean and western style.
