over all it was good. however the mini bar was never stocked. we asked .. they said they would but never did. No bath shower / mats in bathroom. Employees very helpful. Location was good if you want to walk outside shop or eat. Information desk was not helpful in trying to find a gym or yoga studio. I did some research myself and found a great yoga studio and a wonderful gym in Langosta

My boyfriend and I spent 5 days 4 nights at the Tamarindo Diria, and we could not have been more pleased. The hotel was in the perfect location - right in the middle of everything and directly on the beach. We stayed in the newer section, which we loved. Our room was beautiful and clean, the AC was cold (which was important for me) and the new pool section was gorgeous. We didn't really have much interaction with the staff, but what little we did have was very pleasant. Getting towels, directions, and a new room key when we lost ours was easy and prompt. We really enjoyed our time here and I would recommend it to anyone. Also, I felt it was a great deal.

Great Location, excellent breakfast..very well maintained and right on the beach. Probably the nicest hotel in Tamarindo but also the most expensive.

I had a ground floor room facing the ocean, and it was wonderful ("sunset ocean"), with a walk-out to the gardens and beach. The hotel is located on the beach (all beaches are public in Costa Rica), so it has one of the best locations in the area. The bed was comfortable. The room is a bit tight, with the 2 queen beds, but I was outside most the time anyways. Breakfast buffet was great, as were dinner and drinks on the patio overlooking the ocean. Amazing.

Our friends who own a condo across the street were right when they told us the Diria is the best place to stay on the beach. It is definitely a resort but the design is very good and well thought out so there is plenty of privacy if you want it and areas to mingle if you don't. We had a room toward the end of the building, not near the bar or the front desk. The large trees on the grounds provide welcome shade during the day. The pool was clean and not crowded. Breakfast is included and lasts from 6:30 AM till after 10:00. It is an outstanding buffet which made mornings very easy and relaxed. We ate breakfast there every day. The restaurant is very good too though the menu isn't large, but it's a very pleasant place to sit and eat while gazing at the beach. The beach is right there out your front door and it is beautiful! The town is also right there out the other side of the grounds. It is an easy place to stroll and shop. In either direction there are restaurants where you can sit and look at the beach. The Diria staff are uniformly friendly and helpful. There are 24 hour security guards stationed at the beach and street entrances. Their presence is obvious yet they were unobtrusive and friendly too. All in all we had a wonderful week.

Diria offers rooms with great ocean views and great pools. Although the beach at Tamarindo wasn't that great, you could always enjoy one of the two great pools. I also enjoyed their complementary breakfast with fresh papaya, pineapple, and passion fruit! We had dinner at the hotel one night and I would not recommend it. The ceviche was one of the most flavorless I've ever had. If this hotel stepped up the quality of it's restaurant offerings, it would be a great place to spend a few days and have a few meals.

we were so pleased staying here - loved the beautiful grounds with view of the beach and ocean, great open air restaurant, pools, room with great view, good restaurants in walking distance. ..all made it a wonderful stay.

This hotel is nicely situated on the beaches and within walking distance of the town. Although the rooms on the beach are nice, if you get stuck in the rooms across the street by the pool, you can expect no Internet service and a poolside that is sadly lacking in amenities. There is a lovely, large pool with a waterfall and a pool bar, but no one to serve drinks and no drinks behind the bar to be made or served. The pools by beach are not as large, but there is at least some refreshment available nearby. At the reservation desk, the staff is busy with an ongoing crowd checking in or out, and you have to try to grab someone between customers in order to get a towel or return one so that you don't get charged for it. Why they don't have a separate area for towel pick-up and returns is beyond me. The food at the Diria is school cafeteria quality and slow to exasperation to arrive. Also, the activity desk's tours are much more expensive than those a short walking distance away, and they are the exact same tours. Tamarindo used to be a wonderful funky, beach town. Then it got popular, and now it doesn't know if it wants to be Miami Beach or remain the sleepy, dusty beach town it once was. Trouble is, they've started to build Miami-type nightclubs and residents, but there's no one in them, and they are surrounded by the same dusty roadside establishments. Sad to see it happen as the beaches are truly beautiful and there are some really good restaurants both on the beach and in town, and most of the people there are exceedingly nice. However, with the increase in tourism, came the increase of unseemly people. It's not as safe as it once was, but it's still friendly for the most part.

We spent 2 nights here and then left to go to the third leg of our trip. We loved Tamarindo and this resort so much, we cancelled our third leg of the trip and went back to the resort for another 2 nights before flying out. We were so happy we did so, it was so great there. I miss it!

Very poor condition hotel for the money. our room was very noise from the street traffic . the bathroom smell like a bad odor every day. more like a septic tank. The staff are not so frendely.

I had to ask for a beach towel 3 different times and only when I told them that having to ask so many times for a basic item was unacceptable did I get one. The toilet never worked right even when I ask them to fix it on the first night. The wait staff and the bar staff were more worried about taking care of their own business than waiting on their costumers. I had to raise my voice to get them to put a lock on the mini bar in my room ( did not understand why I wanted that done until I finally brought the basket full of stale looking food to the front desk and raise my voice. Poor all around service from start to finish. They made everyone staying there wear a wrist band which to me felt like a sort of branding to tell the rest of the surrounding community that you are staying in the most expensive hotel in the area ( forget about the haggle part of buying goods).

The hotel is very beautiful, the location perfect, and access to tours and advertures was plentiful. We will definitely stay there again.

This place is awesome. Beautifully kept and designed with a real comfortable feel right on the beach. We had a wonderful time there. Not sure they call it a "Golf" resort; the only golf we noticed was a driving range a few blocks away. Breakfast each morning could not have been better. Great staff and great place!

MY SISTER AND I HAD A WONDERFUL STAY AT THE TAMARINDO DIRIA. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL, THEY NEED TO WORK ON THE SHOWER SITUATION BUT DELIGHTFUL SERVICE, HELPFUL STAFF, GOOD FOOD, GREAT LOCATION.

Diria was a great place to stay in Tamarindo. By the looks of the other places in town, I have to assume that it is the nicest in town. I would recommend this hotel or even try to rent a condo if you are headed to Tamarindo. The big pool at the Diria is a great place to relax, but if you love the ocean, the hotel is only 30 yards away. Try the restaurant called Nirbanna down the street or hang out at the Bar One up the hill.

This hotel is about 2 hours from Liberia airport which is a reasonable drive if you arrive in the afternoon. The hotel location on the beach is great and there are two big pools if you prefer that. The restaurant is average for food but also fairly reasonably priced. The only crazy thing is they want to charge you $20 for a 5 dollar towel if you forget to bring it back. It wasn't even a real beach towel. Everything else was great!

Beautiful hotel that sits right on the beach. There are 2 pools with the main bigger pool literally right across the street from the hotel. We had a great view of the ocean. Service was great and rooms were very clean. I would recommend screen doors for the balcony. We couldn't leave our balcony door open or bugs would fly into the room. Also, the screen was missing from our bathroom window so we couldn't open that window either.

The service is not that great. The workers at the check-in desk are pushy and try to sell room upgrades up until the point that you're frustrated. The rooms are fine, but nothing to write home about. The hotel is in a great location, however. The location makes everything else worth it. Nice restaurant and bar on site.

I believe this is the only hotel I'd ever stay in Tamarindo because it is right on the beach. They have rooms across the street, too, but we stayed by the beach. The location is also perfect to walk out and swim (stretch of beach void of lava rocks) as well as surfing. The free breakfast is delicious, but skip this hotel for lunch and dinner. Overpriced, average food, and poor service. But there are plenty of excellent places to easily walk to for other meals. The rooms are small but clean. The bar/restaurant is right on the beach, too, so you can relax and watch the surfers (and perfect sunsets) while you eat breakfast or have a drink at the bar. The front desk service is great, too!

The Tamarindo Diria is a very nice hotel, and apparently one of the nicest around in Tamarindo. On the plus side: nice comfortable modern rooms (could be slightly larger); right on the beach; great breakfast; great place to learn surfing, the main activity in Tamarindo (count $30-45 for a 2-hour session). On the negative side: it is limited in space between the main road on one side and the beach on the other, so there is no room to expand; therefore the two pools present are smaller than what you expect for a hotel-resort of this class when comparing with many in Florida for example; the room we were offered had one of its 2 beds broken when we checked in; when I noticed it (right away) and asked for it to be repaired or to change rooms, we were first told to "live with it for the first night" and they would take care of it "in the morning". this was obviously unacceptable, and it took additional conversations for the bed to be replaced the first night. This was really the only bad experience of our 4-day stay. Otherwise, the hotel staff was courteous. One recommendation for future travelers: go to Tamarindo by day, especially if You drive, as the roads are dirt roads and filled with holes (should I say craters?) in many areas. Once you get there, you do not want to drive again, which is fine, as there are a number of restaurants around. If I ever go back to the Tamarindo area, I would most definitely stay there again, as I did not see any hotel that came close to this one in overall quality.

We had 2 rooms facing the ocean - 1st floor. My wife and I had 2 rooms for our family - including twin 3 year olds and a 13 year old. You are right on the beach, by the pool and restaurant. The mega pool is right across the street and is awesome as well. Good time!

Beach front property is very nice. Our room was across the street, pool side. Rooms were nice but nothing fancy. Beach/pool bar was great - service a tad on the slow side but drinks were good. Food at the hotel was good as well. We had breakfast there daily & ate lunch once. If you go to the left on the beach & walk a bit to the El Pescador you can get great food, service & drinks! We ate lunch here a couple of times. Also Nibbana is excellent for dinner (behind the Century 21). It's a good hotel & I'd stay here again.

This hotel needs to be updated. The fixtures are on their last legs. The mini fridge would shake the dresser every time the compressor would turn on. The television was dated and the picture constantly flickered regardless of what channel it was on. Hand soap and bath soap was not replenished unless we asked for it and hand towels were non existant. It took the staff over an hour to bring extra towels. Finally, construction of a sports bar next to the hotel would wake you up at 7am every morning. Other than the location, this hotel is at best 2 1/2 star hotel.

great hotel!! Stayed here 2 nights. located on the beach and the food and bar is great. local shopping is amazing and all within walking distance.

Minor cleanliness issue and appliance issue needed to be addressed. Service was prompt to service the issues. After they were attended to speedily..... all was fine. I’d return to this hotel without hesitation.

Lovely ocean view and spectacular sunsets. Loved Tamarindo and the ocean beaches. Wonderful local restaurants. Hoping to return again!

GREAT LOCATION COMPARED TO OTHER NEARBY RESORTS; ON A PAVED ROAD; BEAUTIFUL GARDENS & OUTDOOR RESTAURANT & BAR; CLEAN BEACH. GREAT SERVICE. GOOD PLACE TO USE AS A CENTRAL POINT FOR SEEING REST OF COSTA RICA.

This is a fantastic resort, smack in the middle of the main strip in Tamarindo. Once you park your car, there is no reason to pull it back out, as everything is in walking distance. The staff is very friendly.. Jose and Tatiana at the front desk are always there to help you. The only negative was that there was no Wi-Fi in the room, but readily available in the reception / restaurant area. The breakfast buffet was excellent and the beach in front of the resort is also very good.

I enjoyed my stay in Tamarindo, however, this hotel had some big issues. PROS: Location is the best in town, right on the beach, and there is a nice lawn area/pool area next to the beach that is comfortable, well maintained, and beautiful. Cost is reasonable for a beachfront property. Breakfast in the a.m. is good, however, given that it's a perk and it's included, the staffing is lower and not very attentive, but don't blame them, it's busy and they mostly don't get tipped, although we left some on the table. CONS: Spotty service! We received horrible service at the restaurant on 2 occasions, where the server pretty much forgot about us 45min at a time. No water refills, no check backs, no bill, both times. Both times were on weekends, however, the restaurant was not crowded. Weeknight service was much better and the food at the restaurant is above average. But don't try the casado there (typical costa rican dish) as it was the worst I had in costa rica, chicken was a breast grilled so dry and overdone I couldn't get my fork or knife, it was however, usable as a hokey puck) -The rooms on the beach front on the first level feel like a a step up from motel 6, however, higher level rooms our friends had were a bit better. -tour desk lady was fine, but didn't talk much. -reservation desk staff was excellent, above and beyond to help us w/ local restaurant reservations..must try cameron dorado, it's the best food we had in costa rica! -front desk - spotty, several staff bent over backwards to be friendly and helpful while others were not very friendly.

Great location. The food in the restaurant was very good. They always had a special dinner eveynight. Right in the center of town. Great beach and ocean view. I would definately return to Tamarindo and to this hotel.

Can’t complain about the location, we could literally walk out our door and have 50 yards to the Pacific Ocean. The resort is in a great location but is a bit run down and the rooms directly on the ocean are quite small. Management does not necessarily give you the room that you booked, we had issues and I heard several other people complaining as well. They have a new section across the road that is quite nice if you don’t mind having to walk across the road to get back to the beaches. The service was quite slow but I guess that is a problem in all of Costa Rica. We noticed that if you spoke Spanish to the bar staff, you would get waited on immediately while those who spoke English would have to wait. One of our rooms did not have a hair dryer and the resort said that they did not have any, nor did any of the rooms have an iron. They did have a nice breakfast that was included with both an omelet and waffle station. I asked about golf and apparently they only have a driving range. (Don’t know how they can call it a golf resort?) Our first choice for booking – Capitan Suizo, did not have vacancy which is why we booked this resort. While we were there we checked out Capitan Suizo which was a lot nicer and had just as good a location, next time maybe???

I stayed for four nights for a friend's wedding. The facilities are nice, the location is right on the beach and the rooms are clean and comfortable. The only real complaint I had was with the service. Check in was slow, drinks at the bar took forever, dinner took forever... everything moves real slow in Tamarindo and the Diria is no exception... arguably worse.

This is a nice, clean hotel with a fantastic location and view. You are not getting luxury, but the price is great and you cannot beat the combo of a beach front location and you're walking distance to restaurants/shops/bars. Everything in the room was clean, check in was a little slow but I think everything moves a little more slowly in Costa Rica :). Breakfast buffet was good, loved 2 for 1 happy hour at the bar. If I'm back in Tamarindo I'll stay here again!

We really enjoyed our stay here. We had a room on the first floor with beach view/access - it was perfect! The hotel grounds, and the beach were both beautiful! There were also plenty of activities/eateries within a short walk of the hotel.

we loved this place so much, very beautiful, right on the beach in the center of town. it was amazing, surf lessons out the back gate from henry (awesome teacher) and the stay was perfect. after the rest of the two week stay, we wished we would have stayed here longer. breakfast great and everything. were a young marriend couple and it was perfect.

The hotel was great. Wonderful grounds, pools, and rooms. For the rate you cannot beat this hotel with anything else I saw. Many people were coming into the Diria just to eat lunch because it was such a nice place. Breakfast buffet is great and the restaurant serves great food and/or drinks. There are rooms on either side of the main street. I actually liked staying on the other side of the street from the main hotel because that is where the HUGE pool is you can lounge around if you want some quiet sun worship instead of dealing with the beach. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Tamarindo. The only negative I had was a guy always at the gateway to the beach trying to get me into doing some tours with him. That is actually a highpoint considering the accosting that most places will give you. I cannot recommend using Grayline shuttle to pick you up and drop you off right at your hotel door. I used them to transport myself from San Jose to La Fortuna to Tamarindo.

Best hotel in town, and best location!! Right in the middle of everything, and you can walk everywhere; from the beaches, to the pools, to the resteraunts, to the bars, to the clubs!! If you are going to Tamarindo, you want to stay here. Very fun beach town, that offers everything from great relaxation to great partys and bars if you are into that as well. I rated the hotel all 5's accept for the cleanliness. The only reason I didnt rate a 5 for this category is because in my fridge I had some spilled coke or pepsi that wasnt cleaned out from the people prior. The only complaint I have is that I didnt stay longer, and that was my fault!! ;) I did 2 nights here, and 2 nights at tabacon resort and spa in la fortuna, and the whole trip was amazing.

Great staff. Wonderfull stay

We stayed from Sept. 18 to 25, 2010. This is the RAINY season and it sure was!!! We are a family group ranging in age from 32 to 58 with a 3-1/2 year old child. Check-in went smoothly even though we had 3 separate reservations and there was only 1 front desk clerk at the time. ROOMS. We stayed in the poolside rooms (across the street from the main hotel). The rooms are large, brightly decorated, with fairly large bathrooms, mini-fridge, and electronic safe. For some reason room 601 is different from the other rooms we had (it was dark, with poor lighting, and older furnishings). My sister requested a different room as soon as she saw our other rooms and was moved into another room the next day. Being the green/rainy season there were very few people there, so we didn't understand why she couldn't change rooms immediately, but they eventually moved her, so everyone was happy. The wireless internet access only works in the lobby and bar/restaurant area, but it was quite comfortable to use. POOLS. The pool by the poolside rooms is very nice, it's HUGE and it is a "zero depth" pool so it's great for small children because they can walk in and wade around rather than worrying about steps and ladders to get in and out. There is a nice swim-up bar at the pool, but it was closed during the rainy season. We used it anyway, by bringing our own drinks in a cooler, we even brought a pizza out there one day. We cleaned up after ourselves and many hotel personnel saw us there, but no one seemed to mind. Often times we were the only people at the pool, and even if there was someone else it was only another couple, and they joined us. On the beach-side at the main hotel there are two pools; an average rectangle shaped pool, and a smaller children's wading pool. They are both located next to the lobby and the restaurant. We used these pools a few times, and there is nothing bad to say about them, I just preferred the huge pool across the street. The landscaping is beautiful on the

The staff is great, the on-the-beach location wonderful. My one small complaint: The rooms need more towel racks so that guests' towels may dry and do not need to be washed and dried.
