Staying at this Hilton is comparable to staying at any major resort in the states. The pool area was filled with guests during our stay with no chairs left empty. The hotel being all-inclusive, the bartenders are not nearly as friendly and happy nor quick to serve as in local bars or restaraunts where they receive tips based on their service. If you are happy to lounge by a pool and eat whenever you wish, then you can do the same. However, If you are looking for a more exotic stay and want to experience the culture of Costa Rica, then you would be happier staying in a smaller hotel on or near one of the public beaches, with fewer guests, which would give you a more local experience. We also stayed in a smaller local beach hotel with a huge Guanacaste tree growing in its center and abundant wildlife during part of our stay and would of rather stayed there our entire visit despite that it was not all-inclusive.

We recently stayed (early December) at the Hilton Papagayo for 5 days. This was our first trip to Costa Rica. While scenic, the setting reminded us more of a lake than the ocean, and we were the disappointed with the beach. The hotel's location on an inlet off the gulf provided little or no waves. In fact, we never saw anyone in the water. The property is set on a hillside, and the rooms are spread out and atop steep hills. Even though the hotel provides shuttle service, it was inconvenient relying on a shuttle each time you wanted to go to and from the restaurants or pool. The hotel's location was very remote and required expensive cab rides to reach even the closest neighboring "town." We recommend doing day tours through one of the travel services just to get away from the resort. Our room was quiet, clean, and comfortable. The room had an LCD TV but it was fuzzy on every station. There was also a nice balcony overlooking the water, but unfortunately the bugs were overwhelming enough to keep us inside. Most disappointing, however, was the food and drinks. We primarily ate in the restaurants versus the buffet. While they were a step up from what we experienced at the buffet, the food was rather bland and lacking. The drinks at the bar seemed watered down and there was only one choice of beer. Overall, this didn't feel like a Hilton based on the quality of the accomodations and food. I wouldn't go back.

I stayed for one night at this hotel The sevice is impeccable. Always greeted with a smile from ear to ear. The quality of the food is also excellent. However, being a native Costa Rican, I was dissapointed with the location. Not within walking distance of anything. Very remote. The beach is tiny, almost negligible. It's a small enclosed gulf so no waves. If it were for the food and service alone,I would definetely recommed this place. However, the isolated location makes it not worth my while. Before this, I was staying at Villas del Sol also all inclusive, service spotty and food not as good, but located in Playa Hermosa, a beautiful,large beach with many hotels and restaurants to go to. Within walking distance of shops. These 2 hotels are about a 10 minute drive of each other.

The Hilton Papagayo resort is about a 25-30 minute (by taxi, private car, or rental car) drive from the Liberia airport. Standard taxi cost was $50 each way, though you should be able to get them to $40. The resort is very nice and sits on a relatively secluded beach on the west coast of Costa Rica. The Hilton has a good selection of restaurants, you need to make reservations at least 2 nights in advance. Food selection is pretty good, the Papagayo burger is great. The resort has shuttles to get around, just call the office and a shuttle will get you within 5 minutes. Part of the resort is situated on a bit of a hill, it offers lush, green scenery. The only bad thing about the resort is the location, it's a bit secluded from everything, which is great you want to get away from it all. If you're looking for touristy things off the property like restaurants or shopping then you will have to arrange transportation by taxi, rental car, or shuttle bus, and the transportation isn't particularly cheap. Be careful if arranging transportation with any of the independent guys down by the beach, they are not affiliate with the hotel and there are no guarantees that they will show up, especially if you pre-pay them (we had an issue where we pre-paid $25 for airport transportation and they didn't show up...we were lucky to catch a ride with another couple that had planned transportation shortly after us). For tourist type shopping and sourvenirs you'll want to go to Coco Beach, it's a 20 minute ride away, from the resort, transportation cost is around $50 roundtrip. As for excursions there is no shortage of options, we did one of the canopy tours that included zip-lining, horseback riding, lunch at a local restaurant, and the geothermal spa/mudbath situated off the side of one of the volcanos. That was arranged through Issys tours with one of the tour guys down on the beach, cost was around $125 per person but that's always subject to change. The trip took about 6 hours and the

We booked this hotel for the first 3 nights of our honeymoon and absolutely loved it. When we first checked in we thought it was strange that we needed a shuttle to our room but soon found out that it was because the property is huge with a bungalow style design resulting in the feel of privacy and exclusivity. The shuttle ran 24/7 and we never had to wait more than a few minutes. The food was great, the pool was the most beautiful we have seen, the staff was friendly, the beach was clean, and the view from our room was breathtaking. Overall we loved this all inclusive resort, feel it was a great value for the price, and would absolutely recommend it.

The hotel was nice, the staff was kind and helpful except for the front desk staff who were rude and inconsiderate. Especially since we booked through Hotels.com instead of thru Hilton Honors, as they would've preferred. The rooms were good, could use more TLC. I do expect a little more from a Hilton. The beach was nice, and we enjoyed the activities that were offered. The food was better than average. We enjoyed the variety. I do recommend this hotel, just be prepared for a front desk staff that is not willing to help with your reservation if you do not book thru their program!

Friendly welcome. The rooms are spread out on a lot of acreage and requires a shuttle to get around. The shuttle was always prompt and available. The service is friendly and always ready to please. Reception area was very helpful with making phone calls for us and assisting me when my flight was changed. The internet cafe was great and very low fees. We made many friends and enjoyed our stay tremendously. The negative comment would be that the food was only so-so with little variety after two weeks. Also, there is no ATM at the hotel or nearby and was very difficult to get cash or change.

Everthing was nice, Food great, room was excellent. Bed very comfortable. Beach was awesome got some great Pictures. Enjoyed the stay!!!!

this hotel is amazing : villas spread around the hill, not a big concrete building (which destroy the beauty of the shore in my opinion) standard room is not big, but big enough, all clean, nice, flat screen TV with gringos channels. the staff is amazingly courteous and friendly the 'for adults only, pool and beach is a gem the spa is very nice and the massages were good and affordable (promotion for november : 15 mm addtionnal to the massage and 20% off) food is good and not expensive ($2.5 for soda, $4 to $6 for alcool cocktail, $12 for the local dish at lunch, and breakfast buffet for less than $18) beach is clean and with calm water, private. the hotel is secluded yeah, but we did not come to costa rica to go to the casino, but to enjoy what this country does he best : protect a beautiful eco system. I definitely would go back there and nowhere else I I were going back to Guanacaste province I loved it (and again I hate concrete) :-)

For my vacation to Costa Rica, I stayed at the Hilton Papagayo resort and spa. The thing about this hotel thst made my stay so enjoyable was the hotel staff. They all went above and beyond any other hotel I have visited. The staff made sure I was enjoying my entire vacation. They are very courtious and friendly, and did an outstanding job of making me feel truly comfortable and relaxed. The concierge service at the front was amazing! The representative at the front helped me arrange transportation for my entire trip, sometimes with little notice, and were even able to set me up on private tours with a private driver soI could enjoy everything without the hassle of atime table. Overall, this was by far one of the most enjoyable vacations I have ever had.

Wow, we had an amazing stay. The hotel was nice, very modern, well cared for and extremely beautiful. The staff was amazingly courteous and the amentities were wonderful. The one downside, if any, is that you had to park your car in a garage and move around the property in shuttles. The hills were steep so walking tired you easily. Also, it is a pretty remote location so recommend renting a car (plus it is well worth it to see some of the country on your own). Costa Rica was amazing to us and the Hilton was one reason why!

Tuve un inconveniente con el aire de la habitación y a pesar de que no la pudimos usar por una tarde, muy atinadamente nos cambiaron de habitación y ademas el hotel dio una cortesía por dicha incomodidad, lo cual nos ha dejado muy satisfechos, por la profesionalidad con la q actuaron

Omgivelserne var fantastiske. Dog troede jeg, at det var mere luksus. Jeg synes, at bungalowen, som vi boede i ikke var "lækker" nok efter min smag. Man kunne tydeligt se, at det var et ældre hotel. Hvis hoveddøren havde sluttet ordentligt til ved gulvet, så havde vi nok også undgået alle myrerne og krabben.. Fælles arealerne var meget pænere og mere vedligeholdt, så der var vi hele tiden :-)

Excellent services, excellent location. The quality is very high. Also food & beverages have very good prices.
