this is a good hotel to stay. If you want to stay at a clean hotel with decent service, maybe this is not. Please beware. The WiFi signal is weak and the network is not encrypted. The location is best: near metro station, bus station, McCormick Place, etc. And one more: Check-in starts from 3pm, so please don't go there before 3pm.

Read the reviews! Believe all of the negative comments! A friend needed to stay here as someone else booked it for her & we joined in. Mistake. Unsafe neighborhood, dumpy, dirty, broken, no free parking as told. If I could get my money back I would. If we could have made other arrangements when we arrived, I would have done that. Even for this price, it was unacceptable.

While in a fantastic, vibrant neighborhood close to the El train downtown, numerous things were falling apart. There was painting equipment strewn about the hallway. The front doorknob to the room was at an odd angle, the bathroom doorknob was loose, and the toilet flush handle came off in my hand. If I was not there for only one night, I would have switched hotels for the rest of my stay.

Great location and price for what we wanted, hotel is not the Hilton, but we had clean sheets and hot water. And it is IN China town.

What can I not say about this hotel? Check in was easy. No elevator, if you have knee or back problems, don't stay here! If you are just looking for a place to sleep or shower this is a nice cheap option. The noise level is much lower than downtown. Surrounding area (Chinatown) has some amazing restaurants and boutiques. Very easy to navigate throughout the city via red line or CTA buses. Good luck getting a cabby to find it, you'll end up a street over at the firestation. You can tell they do their basic cleaning of linens, however they don't go much beyond that, I found a beer bottle and caps under the bed.

It's worth the money.

The feature I like the best is the location. The red line is within walking distance and there are many restaurants in the neighborhood. The most undesirable feature is the absence of elevators. I had to climb the stairs with my heavy luggage. The window pane fell off when I tried to open it (by sliding it upward). A table was put right behind the door. Every time I opened the door, it hit the table. Why didn't they replace the large table with a smaller one? All these issues are relatively minor compared to the convenience of the location. I will stay in this hotel again.

This is a very inexpensive hotel. That should be at the forefront of everybody's mind when they consider staying here. This is not the Drake. This is not the Palmer House. But, this is a great hotel. I was in town for a conference at McCormick Place and could not have asked for a better location. Chinatown is amazing, tons of great restaurants and bakeries. Easy (and totally safe!) walk between McCormick Place and the Chinatown Hotel. Very near the el. The rooms are small, the amenities are minimal, but the staff is very friendly and gracious, the hotel is clean, and the rooms get the job done. I would plan to stay here nearly every single time I'm in Chicago.

The hotel is not new but is clean and adequate for a place to stay. Was attending a convention near the lake and found the location to be about a 15 minute walking distance. Also the commuter rail was only about a five minute walk. The hotel staff was courteous and helpful.

This hotel is regularly cleaned to a low standard of cleanliness. There is a community refrigerator on the 1st floor (write name and room number on your food), a microwave, a table and some chairs, and a pop machine. The desk is small and a footstool serves as a desk chair. There was very little room to actually sit at the desk to do any work. Sheets, spreads, and towels all seemed clean enough, if well-used over the years.

The staff was made up of a very nice family and the hotel stay was ok. When I booked this reservation I was told that there was parking. When I got there there was no parking. They said i could park at a self pay parking a few blocks away. There was no elevator to go to the rooms. You were not able to regulate the room temperature. The television only had one channel. Room didn't have a tub, when I asked if I could be moved to a room with a tub they said that there was only one room with a tub and it was the luxury suite. This meant it was more expensive and it was booked. I asked for another pillow and was told they had no more pillows or blankets. The best part of staying here was that it was in China Town so we found a great place to have dinner.

Pretty basic hotel, wifi not very good, clean rooms, good shower and bathroom. In the heart of chinatown, very close to subway. Not close to downtown area, but easy to get into town by subway.

Not very clean, very noisy, broken bottles on street. Low rates means this is expected. The surrounding shops and resturants very interesting, no problems with the locals, even at breakfast at a nearby shop. Also no free parking.

You get what you pay for. Easily the cheapest option downtown, and it's surrounded by good food, and 5 minute walk to the red line. Would recommend bringing bedsheets and towels if possible.

I didn't like it at all. The room was tiny and very dirty. The bed was horrible, and I could hear all the outside noices. It wasn't worth the money.

I had a good experience with this hotel. It is what it is, so do not expect a 5-star resort. I didn't read all of the reviews, but you should know: THERE ARE NO ELEVATORS. I stayed on the 2nd floor, and there were about 12 small steps up. Yes, I drug my 50lb bag, and carry-on bag up the stairs. Be prepared for this. ALSO - there are a few steps DOWN to the check in desk. LOCATION IS GOOD! Very close to a train station. Can easily get to hotel from either O'Hare or Midway airports. I purchased a $23 7-day pass and used it constantly. Chicago's public transportation is reliable and safe. Study train map before your trip! THE ROOM ITSELF - looked a little dingy, but at least HOUSEKEEPING came DAILY. NO CABLE on the TV - I only got CBS as the only English station with a good signal. THE ROOM KEY resembled a military dog tag - not a regular metal key or a plastic card. THE TRICK TO OPENING the door is to insert the "key" facing away from you, leaving it in the door knob, THEN turning the door knob. After opening the door, remove the "key." WALLS ARE THIN - I think I heard a guy snoring one night, but it was really quiet in my room. I would stay here again - at least I know what to expect now. Have a nice trip!

Room was very dirty, smell of mold and stinky. holes in the towel, no dryer, blanket was not clean.. it was the worst condition ever. Better to spend more money for somewhere elese.

price was right. met our needs. surrounding area great. proximity to red line exceptional.

1970s decor (really) threadbare carpets, and rooms so small you cannot swing a cat in them it is however super cheap, bed is comfortable and it is quiet. It is bang smack in the middle of Chinatown, which just added to the hotel's appeal. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Do not book this hotel. Yes it's the only hotel right in China town. That's about it.Dirty dirty dirty,the carpet was black and musty, the bathroom had mold. The Tv Had only one station- come on...my hubby whom is Chinese said its the worse hotel he ever stayed in. Thank God it was only 1 nite....oh I forgot the rude staff whom lie and say that what you report as broken or not working will get fixed...

felt unsecure with flimsy door latch. bad matress, felt springs. coffee maker provided but no coffee or mugs. tv smaller than my laptop screen. staff limited english skills. insects visible inside.

CONS: The hotel is missing the basics: clean rooms, clean bedding, clean towels, clean corridors and stairwells, soundproofing. The neighborhood is shoddy and told by friends not safe to be out at night on your own. PROS: Staff was pleasant, Conveniently located next to RED LINE and bus service

No elevator. Coffee makers, but no coffee. Many things broken in rooms. Was still soap in shower from previous stay. All I can say is that it was close to my destination. The staff was friendly.

Where it is great but it is way old and beat up and the smell and just stairs.. Give you a coffee maker NO coffee

The hotel itself was... passable. The rooms aren't amazing, the TV didn't work, but the bed was comfortable enough, and the air conditioning worked (sometimes if too well!). All in all, not amazing, but not bad.

to small for the price with no parking close .

Really good location, not far from downtown and Union Park (about an hour walk). Customer service was very friendly and helpful. Busy streets during the day with lots of shops and tiny restaurants, but at night not very safe outside. Vagrants sometimes in groups of 2 or 3 were wondering around outside asking for money. They were very persistent and would follow and hassle you. Not safe at night. But total fine while still daylight. Room was okay, small and a little dingy, but not bad. It was the best deal we could find, that is, a room that costs less than our monthly mortgage payment.

Is nice location, but price is expensive for room at that condition.

The hotel does not have car park for guests. It is very difficult to find a public car park. And you have to pay $10+ to park your car nearby.

some what dispointed

Clean although dated hotel only 2 blocks from EL station. This made it very convenient to get to the Loop & Wrigleyville. Stepping out of the hotel to the wonderful smell of Asian cooking. Very kind staff allowed us to store luggage at desk after checkout. This way we could explore Chinatown more. No big frills but a clean basic room at an affordable price -just what we needed.

Don't book this hotel expecting to be comfortable. It's all about price and convenience to downtown. The building is old and smells like mildew. The carpets are old and dirty. They don't give you washcloths, just a towel and hand towel that felt like sandpaper. There is no refrigerator or microwave or iron in the rooms. I questioned whether my blankets had been washed. The TV was the size of a very small monitor and very few channels worked. They charged a ridiculous price for ice and extra towels. I don't know if I would call the staff friendly and helpful. However, this place is incredibly close to the metro and one can easily and quickly get into downtown Chicago. As I said before, it's all about a cheaper hotel price and convenience to downtown.

It was good, but when you see it for the first time, you may think: Oh my god! It looks very old. The furniture in the rooms is also very old and we had a broken desk. It's very near to the city and you can take the metro, so it takes you only a few minutes, to travel to the Willis tower for example. Parking is possible, one or two hundrets of metres from the hotel, or if you are lucky, you can park your car in the street, the hotel is located. You can get a map of Chicago, if you ask for it. So all in all it's a good hotel with very friendly staff and if you don't expect too much, you can enjoy your journey.

Was looking for the cheapest hotel within walking distance of Soldier field. Parking was a problem but we found a parking lot 2 blocks away from the hotel for $14 for a 24 hr period. Would not stay there again if given a choice.
