I stayed on a Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Thursday was fine, but I'd never stay there on a Friday or Saturday night again. The music from the bar below was pounding 'til the wee hours. Worst of all, the cleaning staff was terrible. They merely hung up our dirty towels instead of giving us new ones, even after we complained (no, I'm not kidding). They placed our dirty glasses in our bathroom sink. When I called the front desk for fresh wash cloths, it took three trips to get it right. We were initially brought hand towels. Who doesn't know what a wash cloth is? This was especially sad because the upstairs lobby of the hotel is SOOO nice. It could be great if they'd cut the music below and train their staff.

Beautiful hotel, unfortanetly the service was lacking. We stayed two nights and never had our room cleaned, even after requsting service. No clean towels, no new shampoo, or soap. After explaining to the front desk the situation, they didn't seem concerned with dealing with it. We won't stay again. The hotel is really beautiful, but the service is poor!

My sister and I just stayed at the Montvale this past weekend. I can't say enough good things about this lovely European style hotel. We had a deluxe double queen room, the beds were very comfortable and the windows opened which I love. Some people have commented that the sound of the trains were disrupted, however we found the train sounds very quaint and soothing. Although the information binder in the room says that there is a continental breakfast served in The Catacombs restaurant below the hotel, it is no longer offered. However, a full breakfast is served at Scout which is the adjacent restaurant. Scout was a real pleasure, wonderful drinks (the lemon meringue martini made us swoon!), fried okra that would rival any deep south restaurant, and a savory seafood chowder that warmed us to our toes! What would I rank the Montvale and Scout? Overwhemingly two thumbs up!!!

The Montvale will definitely be our go-to hotel whenever we visit Spokane. It's charm, great restaurants,proximity to shopping, theaters and galleries and Spokane's wonderful library is excellent.

My first interaction was that they sent me to a dirty room that had not yet been cleaned from the previous guests so they immediately found me another room. The antiques in the hotel were beautiful, the old character was great. The noise on the street below was loud, you could even here people talking on the sidewalk below when we were on the 3rd floor. The room was small but I think that is characteristic of a building that old.

The property itself was great. The front desk and valet staff were also great. The loud noises coming from the street until after 3:00 a.m. was not so great. We stayed on a Friday night so I'm sure that had something to do with it but loud cars and shouting from the street took away from the overall experience.

Our room faced the street and was very noisy until early into the morning hours. The bed was comfortable but the sheet had a stain on it. The hotel was beautiful with good service, but due to the noise I would not recommend this hotel

Lovely , Charming, Comfortable and quiet. Simple yet elegant. I enjoyed my stay.

excellent location for enjoying downtown Spokane. Gave my car to the valet and walked to a concert, dinner and shopping with in blocks of the hotel. Very warm friendly staff and historical decor.

I love the Montvale and stay there quite often. It is a little known treasure for downtown Spokane hotels. Just around the corner from the Davenport you have access to all the downtown amenities without as big of a price tag. Highly recommend.

Creatively restored Victorian building with warm foyer and rooms, right in the downtown of Spokane. Has gotten better every year we have stayed here on our way to or from skiing up north.

All seemed fine until bed time. I had asked for a room that was quiet..not near stairs or elevator, and having been told hotel was not full it was easy to accommodate that request..boy was I surprised to hear the train ALL night rolling by my window. Maybe 40 yards away! I guess joke was on me.

The Reeses are longtime admirers of Spokane. We swoop in from Moscow on a regular basis and we do remember the Crescent. There is not better way to enjoy a visit to Spokane than by staying at the Montvale Hotel. The rooms are conducive to good sleep and the skylights bring fantastic light into the inner lobby. I mean fantastic! The Catacombs add medieval charm to breakfast and Scratch is a delight for dinner. Then just across the street is the wonderful Fox. You can't beat a weekend at the Montvale.

Next valet parking in the city.

Very nice antique furniture and cool old world feel. The vaulted ceiling in the rooms really added to the feel of the room. Try not to get a room near the rear of the hotel; the restaurant below emptied their glass recycling into the dumpsters very loudly, early in the morning. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The hotel has great walking access to restaurants and bars. I will stay their again.

The staff was especially helpful as I had just had foot surgery and found it hard to get around. Thanks Montvale staff. We will see you next year.

The Montvale is a beautiful old hotel that has been restored and updated. Rooms were very nice but noise from the street was easily heard. The seating areas on each floor were comfortable although the furniture was a bit tired and worn. The restaurant in the basement level was picturesque and the food was very good. Various music venues were within a block or two. We would stay here again.

Staff was great. Everything was fine. Lights in the room could have been better, but we just removed the shades.

For those seeking a comfortable, friendly, and unique experience, Spokane's Montvale is perfect! Within walking distance to some of the best theatres and live concert venues in the city, and lots of great restaurants nearby, The hotel is beautifully furnished with antique furniture on each floor, and it feels like an important part of the city's history. The staff are cheerful, and the continental breakfast offers a healthy way to start the day! A night at The Montvale is an ideal way to complete an evening at any one of the many great live concerts now coming to Spokane!

Very helpful staff and comfortable rooms. The only downside is the breakfast offering which is minimal, but for the rest, perfect.

Nicely updated old building. Great reading room with fireplace and skylight - feels like a big living room for the guests. Quality.

I had the opportunity to stay at the Montvale during a recent business trip to Spokane. I was pleased with the customer service - excellent front desk crew, and the facilities themselves. The remodel was beautifully done and very inviting. The room was comfortable with all of the expected amenitites. The pillows were a little undersized, but still functional. My main complaint about this hotel and the reason I will not stay there again is the noise level. Every noise out side the room can be heard within. I could hear conversations taking place on the street below. The streets are well traveled, so you hear traffic all night long, especially the trash trucks making early morning pick-ups. The room directly above me was occupied and I heard every step he made trhoughout the night. I would say the rooms were not very well insulated, leading to some sleepless nights from me. Please keep this in mind should you decide to stay.

It's a charming hotel, but the train noise isn't cool. The ceilings are tall, it would be good to have some artwork or something to deal with the strange proportions.

Great small hotel. Wonderful breakfast with interesting atmosphere. Location to downtown was an easy walk. It had character.

My main concerns are parking and the size of the television in the room. Because my stay was over the weekend, there was plenty of free street parking. However, I would be careful on weekdays! Love how clean the room feels, smells and looks. The bed is super comfortable and the complimentary breakfast was above average. Walking to the mall nearby only took 15 minutes. Close to highways. Definitely recommend dinner at the hotel restaurant: Catacombs!

Lovely historic hotel retains old world charm. Close to everything in town, much within walking distance. Very comfy bed! I was surprised to see an additional charge on my credit card for snacks in the room (water, snacks in basket, but no listing of prices so though was complimentary). Would definitely stay there again!

We travelled as 2 couples and thouroughly enjoyed our stay. In particular the charm of this boutique hotel with a fabulous inner inside courtyard that we used. Comfortable seating and great old world charm with fabulous ambiance...we will return!

The floors were noisy, and we kept hearing creaking noise from the upper floors, breakfast was alright. No parking

Nice place. Like an old western hotel... but modernized... small flat screen tv's, ice machines and an elevator that sucked... but only three floors . Walls were a little thin but the bed was really nice. I'd recommend it.

Enjoyed hotel very much. Breakfast was great and staff were very friendly.

Great weekday rate through hotels.com, great rooms (LARGE), nice having good bar/ restaurant next door (Scratch). Not a big fan of Catacombs downstairs (like a dungeon).

Nice old style hotel real close to all downtown happenings, very comfortable beds and rooms. Service was less than good.

What a pleasant surprise. This is a wonderful old hotel with new amenities. Second floor has a great open section of community space with comfortable new furniture and completely refinished woodwork from 1800’s and a bright skylight. Rooms are not large, but the parlor space is great for conversations, visiting friends or reading a book. Hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. Restaurant in lobby is excellent. Front door only a few blocks from the riverfront area. We will stay there again for sure!

This is 36 room botique hotel built in 1899. Very cool, well maintained older hotel w/very interesting features. The nightly price was good BUT the room amenities were not favorable for typical business traveler and the immediate surrounding bars/nightlife made sleeping difficult. Also, TV about the size of a small computer screen. I would NOT recommend for business travelers.

Friendly, helpful staff. The lobby wasn't impressive, but once you got into the hotel the design and furnishings were great. I would stay there again. However, there is no free shuttle from the airport as they advertise.

if you like charm and updated modern amenities you will like Montvale! hisotric building mixed with pillowtop bed, ultra clean bathroom and linens; we loved it

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Montvale for two nights, and everyone was extremely friendly. The hotel has beautiful decor and when the lights in our room wouldn't work, they upgraded us to a beautiful suite! We had a wonderful time and would recommend this place to anyone. Thanks Montvale!

The hotel has a very historical, relaxed feel to it. The bed was very comfortable, and the hotel room was worth it just for that. The location was convenient to all of the downtown area, though it's close proximity to the downtown bars meant that it was loud over the weekend. It didn't bother us a ton, but it may bother some. The only thing negative that I can say, is that a previous occupant had left a take out box on top of the TV cabinet. The box remained for both nights of my stay. In addition, when I turned in my car for valet service, the valet did not tag the car as a valet. My car was ticketed, though the hotel has stated that they would take care of the ticket. Not a big deal at all, so long as they take care of it.
