The street noise is very very loud. In the evening I would crack my windows to get a nice breeze and it was fun to listen to the noise of the city and people having fun at the bar 25 feet away but when I needed to go to sleep I had to turn on my Sleep Machine as loud as it would go and the room fan on max to drown out enough of the street noise even with my windows closed to go to sleep. The front desk folks were very pleasant and they have parking a hot commodity in San Francisco. The room was adequate for my needs I was gone most of the time but the hotel is run down a bit and the street noise is huge. Bring your noise maker and you will be fine.

A friend and I recently spent 5 days at the Chelsea Inn. The weather was great and so was the hotel. The only downside was the loud partying outside the hotel on Sunday night until the early morning. When I made a comment about it to the desk clerk, he said it was even louder on Friday evening. Bars are able to stay open until 2:00 a.m. and people roam about the streets yelling and nothing can be done about it. The rest of the stay there were no problems. We were able to walk to Fisherman's Wharf in about 20 minutes. We would leave in the morning and come back to a clean room in the afternoon. The hotel is also on several bus routes which we were able to take to Chinatown and other venues of the city. This is a great place to stay during the week - but if you are not a sound sleeper on Fridays and Saturdays the noise may keep you awake.

Good location. The hotel is very easy to get in and out of. Check in is right next to garage where you drive in and park. . . then you just take elevator up to your floor. Everything was very clean and attractive in the room.

We recently stayed at the Chelsea Motor Inn and had a great experience. The location is well suited to tourist and non-tourist activities alike. Easy to get to Golden Gate, etc. as well as lots of nearby shopping, restaurants and night life. The only downside is that being on Lombard can be a little noisy at times but nothing that kept us awake and was totally in line with our expectations of staying in an urban area.

I love this hotel, but forgot about the weekend street noise when in a front room!! Next time I'll ask for a room in the back.

Great parking, room was clean and staff was friendly. The location was great to catch the bus and walk around the Cow Hollow area. Lots of restaurants and clubs. The only drawback was that we stayed Friday-Sunday and there was LOUD LIVE music in the club across the street until 1am. (note, the marquee on that club read it was closing down at the end of the month...so the sound might not be an issue). We would recommend this place.

Overall, a good place to stay with a few caveats: Positive: - Parking was included! There was limited space in the garage beneath the hotel, but we found a spot without issue. This was a great perk considering the usual cost of parking downtown and the seeming lack of open street parking around. - Big room - Great location. The hotel is close to a lot of restaurants, bars, and shops, and the water and Palace of Fine Arts are both within walking distance. - Friendly staff Negative: - The carpet in our room was starting to come away from the start of the bathroom floor. It looks fine, but some exposed sharpness made for a painful surprise for my girlfriend's foot. - Decent bit of street noise through our window (though it sounds from reviews like this may depend on which side of the hotel you get). - The top sheet stretched over the mattress didn't quite go all the way to the foot of the bed, exposing some uncomfortable mattress to our toes at night.

The motel itself was fine, but the street noise was unbearable. I couldn't sleep for two nights! I would not recommend staying here on Friday or Saturday nights when the Fillmore and Marina area bars are in full swing if you want to get a restful night's sleep.

This is a well-worn motel. The common areas, furniture, and fixtures appeared ready for rennovation. It's in a noisy part of town, and while we were on the side facing an alley rather than the side facing Lombard, we could hear noises outside much of the night. The bed was comfortable, though the pillows were not. There's free parking. The outside of the building looks nice. The desk clerk was helpful. And there are lots of restaurants, clubs, and stores nearby.

The hotel was nothing fancy or luxury but the staff was super friendly, the room was clean and well taken care of, and the location was close to everything! The elevator was a bit crazy but it was working. Next trip to the area I will certainly book this hotel again without hesitation!

This is an in and out trip with a cool location. Nice staff.

I almost always stay at this motor lodge (or one of its sister lodgings nearby). The location is superb, parking is included, and the rooms are large. However, in over 5 years of my routine stays, the only change has been an increase in the daily rate, the rooms have not been updated. The decor is exactly the same, the bedding is exactly the same, and I think even the televisions are exactly the same ones that were in the rooms when I visit visited in 2006. It seems that because this lodging is almost always full, the management sees no necessity in making improvements or even cleaning the dust covers and bedspreads. Although the sheets are changed, the bedspreads need to be cleaned and dust free.

The hotel was old but seemed pretty clean. Parking is limited (but free) and no refrig or microwave in room. Also no pool for the kids. Overall, our stay was nice but I would check other hotels before booking this place again.

This has always been my favorite stay in San Francisco, because of free parking on site and ease of walking or catching the bus. The last time I stayed about a year ago things were a bit run down at the hotel, but I was told they were updating the rooms. Well they did. What a pleasant surprise. Loved, loved the new decor, comfortable bed, chair and desk in a very large room, and I did get the interior room that I requested since Lombard and Fillmore are a bit noisy. My room was actually ready for early check in when I left my car off at 11 am.

very simple, older but clean.

Staff was very friendly & helpful. Location was great...in a noisy area but safe & close to conveniences, sights, shopping, restaurants, clubs, etc. Great that parking was included. Parts of hotel were dated but room was clean with some updating & most important, no bugs or smoking! Would certainly stay here again.

This hotel was everything we expected. Nice big room with lots of storage space and a really comfortable bed. The internet connection was fast and reliable. The room even had a safe! We chose an interior to get away ffrom the noise from lombard street which is the main hiway through SF.

A nice hotel in a reasonably good location, this hotel would benefit greatly from double-glazing of the windows, especially on the rooms facing the street. Traffic noise goes all night and the club opposite plays loud music till very late. Apart from that however, we enjoyed our stay and found the area to be safe to walk around at night and close to some great restaurants. If you want to stay here, ask for a room at the back!

The staff was extremely helpfull and nice. Cute neighborhood and easy access to bus service.

CLEAN, CONFORTABLE GOOD FOR OVERNIGHT OR 2-3 DAYS...NOT THE BEST IF TRAVELING WITH KIDS.WOULD RECOMMEND BUT AVOID ROOM FACING LOMBARD ST.

Great location if you have a car, as free parking is a premium. Not too far from Fisherman's Wharf, within walking distance. Good location for all amenities. Very good hotel, clean, comfortable and friendly.

This was a lovely hotel. It was not as close to the wharf as I had hoped, but the manager explained local bus lines quite thoroughly. Many reviews mentioned noisy nights, so we took earplugs. If there was a problem, they took care of it. I would recommend the hotel and stay there again if I found myself in San Francisco.

1 night stay on business. Noisy and dirty. Staff pleasant. Will not stay again.

The only criticism I could offer about this hotel is the street noise.

Good location to get to Fisherman's Wharf and other areas in San Francisco. Near the bus stop to hop on and go other areas.

Found myself "stuck" in San Francisco because of missed airline connections (weather). No hotel vacancies adjacent to the airport (it was 9:00pm and there were several conventions going on). Hotels.com agent arranged this for me, and it was like an oasis in the desert. Hotel staff made my unexpected stay very acceptable. Would choose to stay here in the future if circumstances warranted.

comfortable beds, c lean and no nonsense. only negative is that the area is very noisy with city traffic, but many people consider that to be a good thing. one of the few hotels in the area that offers parking at no additional cost, as well.

This is a great hotel in the Marina District in San Francisco. Clean, Safe, Great Location and free parking! We stay here every time we come to the City.

We have stayed at this hotel sufficiently often to request an inside room to avoid the noise from the streets. However on this last visit the noise at 2:00am was generated from inside the hotel by inconsiderate guests who were drunk and loud. A shame because the hotel is clean, convenient and normally great value.

perfect and easy...let me check in an hour early, room was large, clean and very comforatble. the surrounding neighborhood was fabulous, near restaurants, walks, shopping ...we easially bussed to north beach. good rate would recommend to anyone.

The front desk was very nice and even gave us an extra parking pass because it was a slow enough night. Parking is always a huge extra expense in SF. The room was big and nicer than expected. Bed was comfortable and the noise was not a bother as others had complained, but I am a heavy sleeper. For San Fransisco, this is a great deal!!!

I booked online with an online booking service, yet this hotels refused to give me my room key, until I gave them all the same, personal, information that I gave the booking company when I booked the room online. I have stayed at hotels before and never have I been FORCED to give them this information when I checked in. I am use to showing them my driver licence and my credit card for extra charges that I may have during my stay, but no more that that. The hotel refused to give me my room key until I gave them more personal information. In this day and age of identity thief these are some of the things your are advised not to do, this is why I book on line on a secure site. This hotel could careless about any of that. I was basically held hostage for my information or I would not get the room that I had aready booked weeks before. Great way to welcome your guest!!! The room was also freezing and took for ever to get comfotable

Nothing spectacular about this hotel, but for a place to spend the night it fits the bill. Location couldn't be better for heading out on the town at night or for a place to start your SF trip.
