Impressive hotel, exceeded our expectations. Rooftop terrace beautiful, but sometimes crowded due to the fact it is open to the public. We would return regardless.

Outstanding! On the pricey side, Hotel 1898 is a beautiful facility with all the amenities we could ask for. The location was perfect, near the Metro station and in the middle of La Rambla, yet perfectly quiet. The staff was very business-like, giving attention to details. The room, bar, roof-top lounge and pool and spa area were all beautiful and impeccable (I love the decor of this historic hotel - it was very true to its roots while very modern at the same time). The twice per day cleaning service was a nice touch. Laundry services were provided as promised. I would definitely stay here again and have already recommended it to friends, although it's a little tough getting a booking. So glad I was able to book it through Hotel.com.

I have stayed in Barcelona many times but this was by far the best! The hotel is excellent, great location, friendly staff and the roof top pool and spa are a real treat after a day of sight seeing and and in the centre of Barcelona! Wonderful hotel, beautiful city!

OUR ROOM IN THE 1898 WAS WONDERFUL, CLEAN & WITH THE BEST BED & PILLOWS IN ALL OF EUROPE. THE HOTEL HAD A GOOD LOCATION IN A VERY BUSY AREA OF BARCELONA AND IT WAS LIKE AN OASIS. THE ROOFTOP PATIO, BAR, AND POOL AREA WAS LIKE HEAVEN AND A WORLD AWAY FROM THE BUSY STREETS BELOW. IT IS POSSIBLE TO RELAX IN THE CITY ! THE SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT AS WOULD BE EXPECTED IN A HOTEL LIKE THIS.

Great hotel if you want to spend a couple of days in Barcelona and be right in the action. Stayed in other hotels in the area but this one beats them hands down!

We were a little concerned that it was too close to La Ramblas but it was so quiet and the beautiful rooftop pool was an oasis of calm above the hustle bustle of the city. Perfectly placed to adventure around the city on foot and close to transport links to the airport too. The room was really comfortable and thoroughly cleaned each day, all the staff we came into contact with were friendly and welcoming and spoke great English too. We were upgraded on arrival too, which we loved especially as we then had a little balcony overlooking the street, perfect for people watching! Would highly recommend this hotel, hope other people who stay there are as lucky as we were with the beautiful spring sunshine too.

Very pleased with our stay - upgraded to better room which had a mini balcony overlooking the street below. A little noisy on the first night but bearable. Room was q hot and air conditioning hard to find. But this was more than made up for by the stunning roof terrace. March weather was lovely so we spent one day just sitting up there reading rather than sight seeing. Breakfast was an expensive extra but it was a truly great spread. Fruits, cereals, meats and even cava if you could stomach it at 8.30am!

My stay at the Hotel 1898 was perfect in everyway. The location was the best. The staff were kind and always willing to help. I would stay there again.

Had a wonderful stay at H1898. Very conveniently located on La Rambla for access to shops, restaurants, sites of interest and tours. Very friendly and helpful staff and a lovely view around Barcelona from the rooftop terrace.

Excellent place to stay for a long weekend in Barcelona. Our room on the 6th floor was stylish, clean, functional, upscale. Lacks a concierge, but otherwise service was impeccable, especially the bartender who seems to know many languages and makes up for the lack of a concierge to guide those of us who prefer the seat-of-our-pants approach to traveling. The spa is beautiful, but strangely lukewarm rather than hot. Somewhere between a pool and hottub in all respects. I liked it, my girlfriend didn't. This is the area I would stay in again; it's rather centrally located with respect to a great portion of the quality sights. Park Guell requires public transport or driving unless you're really into walking long distances, but everything else is reasonably close if you're good at navigating the spiderweb of streets so typical in Europe. Barcelona was better than expected in most respects, and it hit the mark with the rest. Highly recommend if you enjoy urban European experiences.

We really enjoyed staying at Hotel 1898. Close to La Rambla and the Gothic district, it was a quick walk to all the shopping and sites of the area. We stayed out of season and had the pool in the spa to ourselves one evening - we didn't get a chance to use the rooftop pool and bar because it was pretty chilly when we were there, but it seemed like it could be a pretty happening place in season. The staff had no problem providing us with a late check out or offering us answers to any questions we had. The room service was forgettable. We are from a big city ourselves and street noise doesn't bother us - but there will definitely be a bit of this due to it's location right on La Rambla (I think that is part of what makes it fun.) I would recommend this property for a couple seeking romance in an urban setting or to a 30-something group looking to shake things up in style. I thought the colors and decor of the hotel were the perfect compliment to the city - very sultry and sexy, but I can see how if it wasn't to your taste you could find it a bit dark with all the dark walls, floors, bathroom. In the states, I would compare this hotel to a Kimpton property (Chicago - Hotel Allegro or the like) - boutique and hip but large enough to offer good ammenities.

this historic hotel locates at main street in barcelona, many great shops and a big supermarket around it. I love the fabulous modern design of room, with large flat TV, large bathroom and great service. even i didn't swim and try their spa, but the swimming looks great. i must return when i come to barcelona again.

My husband and I stayed a couple of nights before a cruise and it was truly a wonderful experience. The rooms were quiet so we could sleep and get ready for the cruise while being in the perfect location for Barcelona. I would highly reccomend this hotel. One side note, we were let off by the taxi at the side and so we always went back to the side street and only found out the last day there was a door onto La Rambla. This would have saved us a lot of looking so please make sure you check it out at once so you don't have to find the side street.

We have just returned from 4 nights at hotel 1898. We had the most wonderful time, perfect. We had a classic room which although not large was beautifully decorated and very quiet. Location is amazing as too is the rooftop terrace. Extremely relaxing luxury break.

Our favorite areas were the amazing sauna and the rooftop pool/bar area.

Centrally located on Las Ramblas, and within easy access to the underground Metro system. This is a fairly big hotel in comparison to the surrounding hotels. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The hotel has its own restaurant, and there are several restaurants and snack shops within walking distance. The hotel has a very nice sun deck on the roof with a pool, bar and comfortable seating areas.

Fantastic find! Rather expensive but worth it. A must is the incredible breakfast on terrace. Located right in heart of tourist Barcelona on La Rambla. My only minor complaint is that rooms are small ( and I paid for a better room, too).

Located right on the Rambla, with the main door on a side street (so you feel slightly off the tourist path). We had a deluxe room on the 6th floor - very comfortable and the size was good. Nicely decorated and very clean. Loved the rooftop deck and pool - although the pool is small, it was a great place to come back to after a busy day to relax and cool off. Front desk is professional and helpful. There is also a gym and pool in the basement. I only used the gym once - it is a bit warm - but the pool is probably good if the weather turns bad.

Gorgeous hotel right in the midst of lively La Rambla. Wonderful staff. Tea in the afternoon. This hotel is most definitely a 5+.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel 1898 very much. The hotel is very pretty and very clean. The hotel personnel are extremely nice and knowledgeable and always willing to answer questions about tours, restaurants, etc. The rooftop of Hotel 1898 is wonderful. We had Tapas and drinks every evening and enjoyed the phenominal views. The location can't be beat on Las Ramblas. We will stay here again on our next trip. Beth R.

My friend and I spent time at this hotel Sept 11-14, the pillows were incredibly comfortable, the hotel and room was very clean. We stayed in room 328 and had enough space for 2 twin beds and slept very comfortably. They also had surround sound music, that we played every morning as we got ready. If you want loungy music, i reco the last station on the dial. The lounge bar at the top is great during summer. Overall, i LOVED THIS HOTEL!

Happy with the location, cleanliness of the hotel, and the spa was spectacular. Unfortunately, we did not sleep well - - not because of the partying outside, but because of the wild screaming from other guests partying inside! We just wished the hotel staff would have done something about it.

The staff were extremely helpful with recommendations and directions, the hotel is just gorgeous inside and out, the pool/spa and rooftop bar/restaurant were just lovely. Quiet even though it was within 2 minutes to the main boulevard La Rambla which is an exciting area of restaurants and shops especially at night. My only issue is that we were there for two nights and complained of an ongoing noise in the vents which was never resolved, and they only serve a full breakfast at the rooftop restauant when all I wanted a coffee and croissant but wouldn't serve it. Otherwise, all good.

We decided to stay at the Hotel 1898 after reading some great reviews and we where not dissapointed. We had a classic room facing onto the inner court yard which sort of cut you off from the city an hat was the only dissapointment. only another hotel room window to look at. However, we picked these rooms as we like a quiet room at night and the Rambals has a busy reputation. Room was great, beds comfy, air con great. TV brill but only one English news channel but we where not there to watch TV. Roof terrace was FANTASTIC! Small pool, comfy chairs and beds. Cocktail bar was as you would expect a tad expensive compared to bar prices in town but the views across the city where great. Staff where careful not to leave you with an empty glass for too long before they collected it offering you the chance to order anything further. he spa in the basement has a small pool with steam and sauna rooms. Massage can be booked but are a ad pricey..... well it is a 4/ star hotel i suppose. Check in was smooth and managed to get a room 3 hrs before official check in time. Staff where helpfull with maps and pointing out where the popular tourist spots where. Check out was efficient and quick although we did pick up a bill for drinks attributed to our room which was ordered or not signed for by us. This was deducted with minimum fuss and overall impressed with the welcome and staff. My only dissapointment was the price of the breakfast which we did not entertain. The Bar Lobo next door or the wonderfull fruit market 100m down the Ramblas offer alternatives. i would recommend a trip to the market.... especially if you like photography. As a special anniversary weekend away venue, the Hotel 1898 was fantastic and we loved it. Fully recommended.

My husband and I stayed in Barcelona for 3 days. The hotel was very nice and clean but the street it was off of, La Rambla, was crazy hectic. We rented a car and it's on a one way street so every time we left and drove back to the hotel it took us 15 min to go 1-2 miles back to the hotel. Very touristy area which some people may not mind. Although the hotel itself was very nice and staff was pleasant we would definitely stay off this crazy street the next time around.

If you are looking for a great hotel, this is the place to stay! Located right on La Rambla the location is ideal-convenient to metro, sightseeing buses (for which they have discounts), etc. Your hotel surroundings are luxurious, the staff is extremely courteous-you will love it!

It is really an excellent hotel in great city and charming street " La Rambla"

Hotel 1898 is exquisite, certainly one of the nicest hotels we have ever experienced. The room, linens, bath products and extras are wonderful. The location on Las Ramblas is perfect. If you are going to Barcelona this is worth a bit of a splurge!

The hotel itself was beautiful and great location. The air conditioning in the room was ridiculous. It didn't cool the room off and we had to sleep with the bathroom window and patio door open which made us nervous as someone could have come in. Patios on our end of hotel were adjoined to several other rooms. We asked them to check it out and never heard back. The fan was on, but they must be conserving the freon. Also, to us a king sized bed is not pushing two beds together and calling it king sized. The matresses were comfortable but the middle of the beds was not. Overall I would not recommend this hotel. It was way overpriced.

Beautiful new hotel. Amazing location on Las Ramblas. Nice pool on roof. Las Ramblas side can be noisy at night. Definitely stay here again. La Meredian across street ok but not nearly as nice.

We recently spent three nights here. Loved every minute. Really high-quality furnishings, the public areas are first class, there's an underground pool / spa / fitness room / sauna (steam room was out of order), the rooftop pool and bar were incredible. Thought we might be bothered by the neighborhood noise, but it was never a problem. Except for the guy playing an accordion at the restaurants in the back courtyard - but I guess it's hard to complain too much about that. Please don't spend too much time doing monetary conversions in your head, or it might ruin your time at the pool to realize that you're drinking $18 kir royales. Was way overwhelmed vs. what we expected. A bit pricey but worth every bit.

We came off a 12-day cruise with very expensive internet. Therefore, free internet was important to us. We originally booked Le Meridien which is right across a side street on La Rambla. We changed to H 1898 because it has slightly better rating from tripadvisor and free internet. Le Meridien charges for early check in. We got to H1898 at 10AM, was given a room right away. But the room had not been cleaned yet, so we had to go back down the lobby to wait for it to be cleaned. We were finally in our room by 11AM. H 1898 apologized for the inconvenience by sending a fresh fruit plate to the room which was a nice touch because we did not expect to check in early in the first place. Overall, the room was spotless, A/C was strong, bedding was comfortable, room was specious, service was good. We asked the desk clerk many questions about museum hours, how to get to places, and recommendation for restaurants. They were all very helpful. When my wallet was stolen (at Magic Fountain), they called VISA and American Express for me. They told me to report to police. We went to the police station at 9:30AM but could not file a report because there was no translator until 11AM. Since I did not lose my passport and had already reported all the lost cards, I did not go back to file police report. We got the inside room facing a small court yard. The view was not good but it was quiet. Also, the bath tub is a little slippery. You can get cheap breakfast from Starbucks, and Dunkin Coffee. Underground station is close by. About Barcelona: (1) museums are closed on Mondays (2) Sagrada Familia is open 7 days a week, be there before 9AM, otherwise, the wait will be very long. Lift to the middle of the tower can only take 6 people up. We lined up at 8:40AM, got tickets to ride the lift between 9:20-9:30. (3) Magic Fountain is open from Thursday to Sunday, the first show is at 9PM, and second show is at 9:30PM. Both are different with different music. You should plan on watching both.

There are no negatives here. The staff and service were perfect. The rooftop bar was so romantic and the view at night was breathtaking!

Hotel 1898 La Rambla is perfectly situated- close to all the must-see sights.Staff are most helpful and the rooftop pool is fantastic.Tapas and a glass of cava at sunset must be very close to heaven!

Our recent stay at H1898 was everything that we expected. We arrived early and our room was ready for us. The decor of the room was tasteful on the modern side with high tech additions. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom superior although one needed to be an engineer to work the tub/shower. The roof garden pool was small but we really did not us it since there was so much to see and do in Barcelona. The hotel is located on Las Ramblas which is the center of pedestrian activity. We had expected it to be like the Champs Elysee in Paris, it was more like a carnival that went on daily and well into the early morning. Our room was quiet but I suspect rooms over looking Las Ramblas could be quite hectic. If you what to be in the center of "action" this is the place for you.

This hotel is in an excellent location and has a wonderful roof top pool with amazing views of the city. The room was a bit small but the location made up for it. I also found the hotel staff to be very accommodating and friendly overall.

Very nice hotel, centrally located. However make sure to ask for a room on an upper floor and away from the very busy and noisy La Rambla street side. Also, operating the (under-pressured) shower/bath combination required three different knobs to be turned certain ways and came with its own manual(!); one would think there are easier ways...
