We stayed three nights at the Melia Berlin in late April and were given a river view room on the second floor. Check-in was very friendly and efficient and the room was spotlessly clean with a gleaming bathroom. The only niggle was a large splat on the window - something thrown up from the street. We asked the hotel twice to get it cleaned but nothing was done, which is a shame. I don't think I've ever stayed in a hotel were you really couldn't hear the movements of other guests. There's always door slamming or TV noise but here there was nothing... apart from a low rumble every few minutes from the tube trains that run under the hotel. A room higher up would eliminate this as well I suspect - but it didn't affect us much as we were out all day and the tube doesn't run all night. Breakfast is really good, plentiful and varied and although expensive at 22 Euros! It becomes much cheaper (11 Euros) if you join the hotel's loyalty card scheme. The hotel is ideally situated for travelling around by train/tube/tram as the Friedrichstrasse stop is just a minute or so walk away and there are shops, restaurants, theatres and bars right on your doorstep, and most of the city's big attractions a few minutes away. A daytrip to Potsdam is not to be missed - it's a little outside Berlin, but well worth the effort. Some tours don't take in the Chinese house or the New Palace... I can't think why, they're amazing! Berlin is a great city to explore and the Melia is a great base to do it from.

Great hotel. The only thing negative is that wifi was way too expensive.

The hotel was in a very convenient location; very near a subway hub and walking distance to many sites. We ate in the restaurant at the hotel and it was excellent. However, we like a coffee pot/kettle in the room and there was none in the room. The second day we asked for one and they did supply one. Also, there was no free wifi. You pay by the hour and it is only for one device. Most people come with multiple devices-laptop, phone eccetera. That was our biggest gripe. We had to go to another site to check our emails and we couldn't make a pot of coffee when we woke up. Otherwise the hotel is clean, pretty and very good location.

The Melia Berlin is a superbly located hotel with modern funky furnishings and helpful staff. I highly recommend upgrading to 'The Level" which gives you free access to wifi, tea/coffee and snacks all day and some lovely hors d'euvres/alcoholic beverages after 6pm at night.

You really can't ask for a better place to stay. Right next to friedrichstrasse station. You can walk to gendarmenmarkt, checkpoint charlie, etc. The bar and nightclub area is a 5 min walk. Nice spanish themed bar downstairs. This place caters to a lot of spanish visitors. Staff is nice and helpful. Only issue was that I asked for a king bed and got 2 doubles, with the typical european practice of 2 small comforters, which is uncomfortable.

we were staing in melia-berlin for the last 4 days and it was just wonderfull.We would certainly come again to this hotel if we will come to Berlin again. Its located great , looks great and delightfull service by the receptionists and door man.

This hotel was a bargain. This is like a 4/5 star hotel that I paid a 2/3 star price for. It is like a block away from train station that connects to express train to/from airport. Probably one of the best hotels I've stayed at.

The only problem is the matress hardness. Difficulty in dealing with back pain. I guess they should invest in better quality for this item. Breakfast is a feast.. Staff very helpful

Nice hotel to spend an romantic weekend in. Train directly to Schoenefeld airport and both S-bahn and U-bahn. Great room and service! /Björn

Best location ever. Safe neighborhood and walking distance to major museums and good restaurants. The hotel is very close to to the S-bahn Station, so all city sites are easily accessible. Nice rooms, tastefully decorated. I will definately come back.

I loved this hotel. It's only a stone's throw to the island museums and the underground train station. The room evinced a careful eye for detail from the exquisite lighting to the furniture and flooring. Bed could have been a wee bit more comfy--a bit soft for my taste. The bathroom had many fine touches. The staff were friendly and helpful. Fine, mid-level, and quick-bite dining nearby. I'd definately stay here again and highly recommend it. Superb value for the money.

Had a look at many hotels and thought the Melia was in a good location at a reasonable price. It is an elegant hotel next to a meandering river and along one of the famous shopping street in Berlin. There is an overground and underground station near enough outside the hotel which means you are able to get around very easily. Many of the major attractions are also just walking distance from the hotel. There are many restaurants and bars along the river including a steakhouse down the steps which was amazing. All in all a great stay in Beriln at a great hotel.

Excellent in all regards in terms of room and location. Staff has excellent english skills. We arrived late on a Sunday evening and they had held our room despite not receiving any calls from us from our late departing plane.

The Melia is so conveniently located and the staff is wonderful. The breakfast is definitely worth it and would recommend you get a room which includes it. The Internet is pretty pricy, so beware. The rooms are large and comfy.

Fab - excellent location (convenient to S and U bahn stations), room very comfortable and clean. Breakfast - excellent. Staff all very friendly.

The Melia hotel is an excellent hotel in a great location. Close to the train station and U Bahn and a nice view overlooking the river.There is a good choice of restaurants just over the river. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful.

very good hotel, but there is no free internet connection neither by cable nor wirelles. you have to subscribe with telekon to use the hotspot. Very expensive. Tks.

If you want a reasonably priced hotel smack in the centre of Berliin, this is it. The rooms are clean, generously sized, comfortable and well equipped and the staff if friendly and helpful. Within easy walking distance of central Berlin, the Brandenburg gate and the Museum Island, less than 20 minutes from Alexanderplatz and the thriving area around the Hackescher Markt. With the commuter rail/underground station Friedrichstrasse right next door, even the rest of Berlin is just a short walk away. This hotel can only be recommended.

The location is perfect. On the Friedrichstrasse a few blocks from Unter den Linden and across the street from a major transportation hub. The rooms were large by European standards, and the staff, particularly the concierge, was very helpful. All at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend.

Stayed two nights in december 2011, and I have nothing to complain about. The room was in perfect shape and the service was great. Ok, one thing... the queue when checking out was too long, but I guess that means it's a popular hotel!

Always nice to stay at Melia. Not the most modern hotel, not an amazing breakfast (but still good enough), not the coolest rooms but still I think it deserves 5/5 because of the service, it's clean, their friendly and helpful service, and the location which is almost perfect to me.

A lovely hotel in an ideal riverside location within walking distance of main attractions and resturants - although tapas bar in the hotel is definitely worth trying.

I have never been to Berlin so i took a chance on this hotel i choosed well as this was perfectly located for what we wanted it was very central and right longside a very busy railway station.Rooms spacious and spotless.On a downside the breakfast was very expensive as was a large beer.

Large room with massive bed and very clean. Nothing overly fancy but really good stay and even got a canal view and bottle of fizz and it was my girlfriends birthday.

I found the hotel very central for such a great price. It is only a 2 to 3 min walk from the train station. The rooms were large by European standards and very quiet. A nice, small gym room. Hotel was very clean and the staff very helpful.

Nice, clean, modern hotel. Great location on Friedrichstraße, just across the street from a train station, central to many of Berlin's great sites. 15 minute walk to Brandenberg Gate, trains can get you anywhere in the city. 19€ taxi ride from Tegel. Room was stylish, modern and clean. Hotel staff was friendly and service was great. Internet is expensive, as is breakfast. Get breakfast at one of the bakeries near to the hotel.

Our Melia stay was exceptional. The location was perfect, near two Metro lines and within walking distance of restaurants, shops, sightseeing sites. The boat ride on the River Spree was right across the street, and seen from my room window. For my husband`s birthday, a bottle of champagne and card was sent to our room as a gift. The room was spacious and clean and very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We would certainly rebook if we visit Berlin again.

Very conveniently located in the historic centre of Berlin, a stone's throw fron the Friedrickstrasse Station. Well appointed, comfortable room, excellent breakfast on both "the level" and the main area downstairs where the range was slightly better. Only significant fault was repeated omission by staff to refill the tea and coffee, milk and sugar sachetsin the room which we use in the evenings.

Emailed hotel a day before arrival to explain that we will be arriving in the morning. Received reply within 10 minutes to state that they will try and accommodate us. Hotel is less than 5 mins walk from Friedrichstrasse main train station. On arrival, greeted by friendly staff who gave us the option of 2 rooms available. We opted for the one at front of hotel. It overlooked the tall building housing Superdry and All Saints but had river views to side. Traffic was noisy only when window was opened. Location is perfect. We walked everywhere on first day as main sights were close by. Room was in good, clean condition. Only drawback was no free wifi. Would stay here again.

This was my husband and my first trip to Berlin. We decided to stay at the Melia only for 1 night, as we had to leave to another location for a wedding during the weekend and then come back to Berlin to the hotel we wanted to book for the whole trip, but wasn't available for just this one night. We were very happy that it happened, as we were much more satisfied with the Melia than with the other infamous American 5-star hotel we booked for the rest of our trip in Berlin. Positives: The Melia has a perfect location, right next to the underground station, bus stops, train station and walking distance to Berlin's main sightseeing attractions. The room we got seemed to be brand new and modern. The bed seemed to be even bigger than a king size. The prices of the mini bar are really reasonable. We usually never take anything from minibars, as prices are mostly outrageous, but at the Melia the prices would be the same as at any nightshop. Nothing to complain about the cleanliness. Bathroom was top notch. We booked the room without breakfast, but booked the breakfast at the hotel, especially when we heard the rate. It's a very reasonable rate and it's a buffet breakfast with an incredible freshness and variety. The staff is really friendly and not pretentious, which makes you feel more at ease too. The hotel also has a very nice tapas restaurant, which has good Spanish food at very reasonable prices again. We ate their the first night we got there, as we arrived very late. And we even returned there another night, after a show at the Friedrichstadt Palast. It's definitely worth it for late night dining. If you find a good rate at hotels.com, you should definitely book this hotel. It regularly has already more reasonable prices than other 5-star hotels. Negatives: The only negative point we would mention is the noise from the trains. If you're a light sleeper, you could hear the trains pass by, as it's not far from the train station. However, it's not as if you were sleepin

Good size, well equipped rooms located in one of Berlin's entertainment districts. The hotel is next to a U and S bonn station and near many sites and museums. The staff are helpful and friendly. The only complaints are, the lack of free Internet and coffee maker. The Internet, like TV, should be a part of the room price, not extra. There should also be a coffee/tea making facility in the room. These complaints are minor when compared to the positive characteristics of this hotel. Starbucks down the street has free Internet.

High quality hotel. Helpful personnel, clean rooms and highest standards. Very recommended.

We stayed at the Melia for three nights and loved it. The location is one of the best you can have in Berlin (public transport is nearby to get anywhere else), at least for a touristic journey. Next time we would probably book a room heading to the street as the backyard was not very exciting (but quiet).

We loved the Melia on the Spree river...especially when given the room overlooking the river. The breakfast there is pretty great too. It is located within walking distance of most major east german monuments.
