This hotel is *beautiful*, and it would be hard to find a better location from which to explore Geneva. The city is small, so it's possible to walk almost everywhere, but the main public transportation hub is only a few blocks away. The hotel restaurant is an experience unto itself with excellent food and service and unbeatable Swiss entertainment. If you're considering staying here, I doubt you'll be disappointed. The ONLY problem - we requested a non-smoking room. When we arrived, we had been upgraded (nice) except that it was to a smoking room. We still had a great trip, the room was not unbearably bad. The hotel indicates that they can't guarantee special requests such as smoking preferences, but non-smoking is more than a preference for many American travelers; it's a requirement. Don't less this scare you away, though. Amazing hotel. Tops.

I thought the hotel was well located. Just a short walk from the main train station. Many things previously stated are correct, small elevator, small shower, modern bathroom, sometimes the cooler works sometimes not. We left the window open during the day and the room was perfect when we went to sleep. After a few hours with the window closed, the remperature became uncomfortable, but not unbearable. I would stay here again.

Nice comfortable room in the heart of switzerland, we arrive a day after Easter and this hotel provides more than the usual amenities for guests. They provide guests with geneva transport card, map and discount voucher for dining. And amongst those, they even gave us two chocolate bunny for easter which is a plus. The hotel provides all the amenities for guest which normal hotel in EU doesn't. Amenities like kettle is a plus.

My wife and I reserved the Hotel Edelweiss after reading some others' evaluations of the place and it lived up to our expectations. It's located within walking distance of the main train station and even closer to the lake and many interesting, but highly priced restaurants. The hotel has a restaurant which we didn't try, but upon checking in the desk clerk gave us coupons for discounts in the place. Rooms were very clean and homey, with knotty pine decor, not unlike some Swiss chalet might have. All in all, a bargain.

For any price hotel - let alone the insane amount you pay here - the service was poor. The front desk was unfriendly and the host at the restaurant acted like he was the bouncer at the 'swankiest' night club in Manhattan, very dismissive and rude, like he was doing you a favor by merely acknowledging your presence. We had to pay a small city tax over our hotel bill amount even though we paid in advance through Hotels.com. If you're walking out to dinner from the hotel, be prepared to pass through the red light district. In fact, If you're not locked into visiting Geneva... SKIP IT and go see another nicer area of switzerland / Europe...!

very gud that they agreed to hold my big luggages for 2 days paris trip, would've been very tough to carry or deposit in rail station locker

Its is the perfect place to stay for few days in Geneva. Excellent value for money. Don't be put off by its country style, after all you are in Switzerland so enjoy it!! Have stayed before and will stay again and again.

February 2012 - First night of a family vacation spent at Hotel Edelweiss before leaving for the French Alps. Cute hotel and very clean. Recently renovated bathrooms were spacious and very modern. Room was on the top floor so fairly warm - had to open windows to cool down. Front desk was helpful and friendly. Within short walking distance to Lake Geneva and The Old Town. Great value compared to nearby 5-star hotels.

We stayed one night as a layover before a vacation in Chamonix. The hotel was conveniently located. Nice walk to the lake and to ferry ride to Old Town. The bathrooms were very impressive. We had 3 rooms and all the bathrooms were modern, clean and very well appointed. I would recommend for convenice and bathrooms.

cute hotel, clean and cosy rooms, very close to the lake but not to the city center. Don't forget to take your 15% discount cards with you to the hotel restaurant. Although every customer has the discount, for some reason, they want to see the card itself. We found it a bit disturbing. Still the swiss live music and the activities during the dinner was impressive.

Less than 10 mins walk from train station, 1 block from bus stop. 5 mins walk to water front for boat ride. 10 mins walk across bridge to Old Town shopping area. Restaurant on ground floor is kitchy but fun. Everyone just goof with the Swiss performers, entertaining ambience for some Swiss fondue. Very quiet street for a good night rest. Customer service is friendly and helpful. Great bargain for the overpriced Geneva.

Hotel Edelweiss made my trip to Geneva in December magical! The hotel was beautiful (a Swiss Alpine Chalet - and very comfortable. The staff are to be commended - polite, helpful. The location was fantastic - a short distance from all the major sites.

the hotel was super cute and fun and the restaurant there while not cheap was very good. The staff at the hotel was also great. I am not sure what people were talking about when they said it was in a bad neighborhood. We walked by children playing in a park from the train station to the hotel it seemed very safe. The Elevator is VERY small. (if you have alot of luggage you may have issues) The hotel did have a smell about it but it was nice and it was more of cinnamon and stuff then full on cheese. The rooms are nice they are alittle small but for Europe they are more than fine the bathroom while modern the shower was also tiny. Really tiny. it was hard to shave my legs honestly. I would have wish for a bigger shower or bath...I was torn between this and another hotel owed by the same hotel chain. I have a feeling I would have liked their bathroom better but this hotel was super fun for being in switzerland. One other small thing there was no conditioner in the bathroom but they did have it at the front desk. People complained about their being no bar but the restaurant serves alcohol and their are bars nearby that are nice. I think it's a great place for couples.

Friendly knowledgeable staff, clean rooms, convenient for walking and public transport. Cute stuffed St. Bernards everywhere. Fireplace in lobby.

+++Good value for money --- Not the best locattion, but quite OK --- you can hear your neigbors!

This hotel was one of the best values we had on our 2 week European vacation in Sept 2011. Great service, very friendly staff. The room was very clean and we loved the wood panelled walls. The bed was just what we needed after a long day of travel, very soft and comfortable. Definitely recommend this hotel...it was better than many other 4 star hotels we stayed at.

My husband and I have stayed four nights at this hotel recently.The hotel is great ,the room is spacious and vey clean.The staff is very polite and helpful.The hotel is in the center of the city and yet is very quiet and close to the main sights. The restaurant has very good food and a lovely live entertaiment.We have enjoyed our stay there very much Aliza and George

As a mid priced hotel the Eidelweiss was satisfactory. The staff tried to be helpful, but knew next to nothing about Geneva.

I really enjoyed this hotel. The Swiss Alps themed decor was really cute and quaint. My room was VERY comfortable, way better than I expected based on my experience with typical European austerity. I did the dinner at the hotel restaurant as recommended by many other reviewers. The entertainment made for a fun time, but I was disappointed with the meal. I'd still recommend it for the whole package experience. Staff was courteous and helpful, and the hotel was well-located, better than what it looks like on a map. I'd stay there again, if I ever have the chance. Enjoy!

A good 3 star hotel with quaint decor. Helpful and friendly staff Was given a free travel pass that saved us 40chf on a taxi to the airport by going on the number 12 bus Be prepared for an expensive stay in Geneva generally !!!

My son and I stayed three nights. The second day there was no a/c. I told the front desk and they had someone come by. They told me it was now working. I asked them to come to my room and the desk clerk admitted it was very hot. We had to sleep with the windows open... so it was noisy and our sleep wasn't good. Next day... maintenance worker came, wiped dust from the filter in the room and said it was fixed. At 11:15 pm I asked another desk clerk and he admitted it was steamy hot. Upon checkout the told me that the condenser on the roof was broken and that was the cause of the problem. I had three breakfasts charged to the room and they only felt obliged to credit me two of the three breakfasts in exchange for two nights of horrible sleep conditions. Owner of hotel owns 5-6 others in the area and I wouldn't recommend staying in any of them.

We stayed here in July 2011 and it was a very nice little hotel. Clean, quaint and comfortable and in a good location. The lake and the main tourist shopping areas are within reasonable walking distance. It's not fancy and its definitely Swiss-kitschy, so if you're looking for a sleek Euro-tech latest style place, this is not for you. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was good. The restaurant is a featured stop for tour groups seeking an "authentic Swiss dinner" -- complete with fondue and a two-man band where they play the expected accordion and the long horns like those used in a Ricola cough drop commercial. Large and small stuffed toy St. Bernard dogs abound. (I told you it was kitschy). If you want to go, make reservations because the tour groups can fill the place. It's also a lot cheaper than signing up for the same thing in the city flyers. If you like 1960's overly-themed things (I do) this is for you. For the sleek Euro-tech thing, go to the East/West hotel restaurant a few blocks away. The food there is fabulous and the atmosphere is 180 degrees different than the Edelweiss. We found the two a good yin/yang combination.

If you like Alpine style surroundings this is the Hotel for you. Having evening dinner here is a must as the atmosphere is absolutely cracking ! By no means cheap - but that's for everything in Geneva.

Cute hotel. Worth staying in for a night or two if in Geneva. The hotel staff was VERY helpful and friendly. It is ridiculous that breakfast is not included with the rate. Everything else though is acceptable. Dinner in the restaurant is worth it -- even the cheesy music performance.

A very pleasant experience, staff excellent with assistance, restaurant had a very good atmosphere for both breakfast and dinner. Entertainment was also first class. The hotel was close to many of the amenities of the lake, business district and train station.

Great location near the waterfront strip of high end hotels. A perfect alternative for budget minded travelers.

M y husband and I stayed here for 4 nights and really enjoyed it, The location is close to the train and bus stations and verey close to the lake. Our room was small but clean and the bathroom was very modern. The staff was helpful and friendly. We enjoyed the nightly entertainment in the diningroom which was music with an accordian and gutiar and singing and yodelling. Such fun!

hotel great good location great staff. bad smell in the lobby but the rooms were fine. didnt eat in the hotel but lots to do in the area. it is in the red light district but really it is a very nice red light district. near the lake which is great walking distance to the train station which is one stop from the airport!

Only stayed for one night. Good location, nice clean room, convenient from/to airport (took a cab - about 35 chf).

Service was great, room great, wireless flowless (great), food great (raclette), and show at restoaurant also great. Highly recomendable

I would definitely stay here again. The Hotel Edelweiss has a charming Swiss chalet atmosphere, with a Swiss restaurant conveniently located downstairs. The room was large and very comfortable. The hotel's staff is efficient and friendly. The location can't be beat- just a few blocks from the lake and the Old Town, and even a rental car location and supermarket across the street, and many excellent restaurants in the neighborhood. Purchasing the room in advance before leaving the US helped save money, given the highly unfavorable US$-SF exchange rate.

it was so good!! for the hotel grade! so go and enjoy they are great people!!

Cute little place. My room was next to the elevator so it was a bit noisy. The bathroom was clean. The room was the biggest on I stayed in for the price I payed. Good overall.

The hotel is close to the lake and overall very nicely located. It is walkable from the train station, but it is a good 10-15 mins walk; instead you can also take bus (no 1?) to get right to it. On the way from the train station to the hotel, there is a small redlight district, though I don't think it is that dangerous. The hotel is in good condition, and you have internet free connection. Overall I found it a pleasant stay.

Ask for room 721 for a view of the Jet d'Eau--fab room!
