Hotel Alexander - نيويورك

We've been using Hotel Alexander for a couple of years now. We have family on the upper west side so we're in and out of the City frequently. We we don't need fancy. We need comfortable, clean, reasonable and convenient. Hotel Alexander is perfect for us

Spartan was the only word when could muster for our room. It was cold, the heat was inconsistent and had no control in the room. There was also a section of wallpaper peeling back with mold on the wall underneath, very unhealthy for anyone concerned about toxic molds. We came away from our stay sick from allergy issues. The hotel in general was very run down.

Great location in the upper west side and the rates are a steal. Rooms are clean and comfortable, I had a room with my own bathroom which was very modern and nice. I will definitely stay here again in the future.

Unable to sleep due to EXTREMELY LOUD heater, tried to turn off heater but it still made LOUD sounds that kept us awake ALL night

If you're like me and don't need frills, but can't stand dingy, this place should be a good fit. It's a bit spartan. For example, you get two towels & no washcloths, no iron, hairdryer, etc. But, the room was clean and quiet and the staff were helpful and friendly. I was a little hesitant about sharing a bathroom, but everyone staying there seemed to be respectful of others and the staff kept it impeccably clean. The free wifi was great. Also, the location provides convenient access to Central Park and to buses/subway to get to the Upper East Side or Midtown.

The actual rooms (remodeled) were fine if you could get past the decrepit hallways, elevator and funky lobby.

Described as an adult hostel, I was not sure what to expect. I just needed one night on the Upper West Side. The hotel lobby was dorm like, but pleasant staff. My room was renovated and quite nice. It was very clean. The mattress comfortable. The bathroom very upscale tiling and plumbing. Popular with tourists, but I am happy I discovered this right in my back yard. Had coffee in the communal breakfast room and left for my day refreshed and well rested.

instead of a hotel, it should be called hostel. then every thing will be better.

oh where do I start - came in at 1:50PM after a 14hr trip - they made me wait 10 minutes to check in because check-in is at 2:00. Got to follow the rules! No extra pillows available - 2 flat ones per bed. Tiny TV in cabinet, door to cabinet would not stay open. Usual channels not available. No remote. Toilet handle in bathroom stuck, water would not stop running. No tables to put suitcases on. Creepy elevator. Super loud air-conditioner. But overall clean, good location an no bedbugs.

as the price point, this is a very cheap hotel in that location, but cheap price means don't expect too much. The room is very small, you can only have nothing but a bed, the TV don't have the controller, singel is weak, but if you only want to stay there for one or two night, should be ok.

If you don't expect to much, then you won't be disappointed. This is not a four star hotel, so don't expect a lot (as it seems the person who checked out before me did) The place is clean, as were the rooms and the shared bathrooms. Keep in mind this is more like an adult college dorm/hostel. Most of the people staying there were foreign tourists (adult) and were also very courteous. The location is nice if you want a quiet neighborhood close the subway as well. Although I am not used to staying in hotels like this, if I was stuck for a place to stay again then I would stay here.

If you are a business traveller you need to avoid this one. While a shared bathroom may be an acceptable option, one with no toilet paper and a shower that doesn't work is not. With ZERO amenities, it would have been nice to have a TV that worked, mine didn't. Luggage check is a public key with all access to everybody's stuff. The staff is rude and couldn't care less. If you are a young newlywed looking to spend as little as possible, this might be a spot to go so you can see how far you've come when you choose to not stay there on your next trip to NY. Take a pass on this one folks.

Hotel was exactly as you'd expect a very cheap (for NY standards) hotel to be. A little grimy, very small, A/C units that roared all night long (which drowned out the noise of the young drunken people banging doors) and a shared bathroom (note: we also shared the bathroom with a pigeon). On the plus side: appeared safe, well lit, cheerful desk staff, close to the park, cheap enough that we could spend the savings doing everything we wanted in the city.

If you're looking for a reasonable economy hotel near Central Park, the Hotel Alexander was a reasonable place. The room was clean and the maid service was fine. No extras (like remote for the tv or wash clothes) but good for a place to sleep at night.

Hotel Alexander is a perfect place to stay at if you only need a place to sleep. Do not expect paintings on the walls or elaborate furniture. There is no fridge or microwave, and much of the tile in the hallways is cracked. Furthermore, though each room has individual climate control, the hotel itself is not air conditioned, and guests may find themselves waiting quite a while for the elevator. On the other hand, though the rooms are small - a single will be just enough room for a bed, a table, and a nightstand - they are comfortable nonetheless. The daily cleaning service is excellent as well, and the room offered basic toiletries, an alarm clock, as well as a television. Do note that though the hotel's website states that a hairdryer "comes standard" with every room, there are only a few hairdryers available for check-out at the front desk. The location of the hotel is also convenient. It is a block away from Duane Reade, where guests can pick up necessities and basic groceries, but its main selling point is its proximity to the 96th + Broadway subway station. The 2 and 3 express trains (as well as the local 1 train) make it unbelievably simple to get downtown in a snap. Overall, Hotel Alexander is a great value for the money - one of the best a visitor can find in New York.

Great Location, just a block from the subway and MTA bus on broadway. Hotel itself is cramped, but decent sized room for Manhattan. Room, bathroom, sheets, towels were all clean. Neighborhood seems safe and active, even in the middle of the night.

For the price the Hotel was very good. The staff was very friendly and the people who stayed there seemed like they were all European. I am American. The room was very clean, small, but good sheets, towels, pillows, and it was also quiet. I was there in the middle of a heat wave in the summer and the air conditioner cooled the room nicely. No, it is not your luxury hotel, but you do not have to stay in a Hotel that offers the max and max out your wallet. I'm telling you, I stayed in many other hotels that were 3 and 4 stars in NYC, and I would highly recommend this hotel mainly because it was located in the Upper West Side 94th st. in an extremely wonderful area (one block from Riverside Side Drive). I usually go to NYC for 2 weeks or more, so for the money, cleanliness, friendly hotel staff, I would definitely stay at this hotel again. And I am a native New Yorker.

The only downfall was that the lobby and very slow elevator were very hot (it was one of those hot muggy days)

I chose Hotel Alexander because of its location and of course, its price. Like most say - you get what you paid for. The staff was rude and not informative, and was not at the front desk the majority of the time. When asked questions, the staff gave off a sense of unprofessionalism and annoyance, as if the questions we were asking were stupid. Housekeeping NEVER answered the phone so we had to call the front desk to ask for clean towels. Instead of apologizing or bringing them up to our room, we were asked to go down to the lobby to pick them up ourselves. When asked to have our sheets changed with clean ones, we found out at night that the sheets were DIRTY - filled with stains and markings - and the bed was not made properly (the comforter was on the bottom while the sheet in between was on top). Our carpet was disgusting and I rarely walked barefoot on it; opting to put on sandals when walking around. The hotel's location is great - pretty close to everything with the subway station nearby and is a decent place to stay if all you're going to do is use it to sleep. But if you want friendly service, a clean hotel, and might be spending some time relaxing in bed, this place might not be for you.

Very recently refurburished in tasteful grays and blacks. Liked the hotel very much...especially the price for New York City. This place is away from mid-town but the price is right and convenient enough.

Very small room, no luggage rack and closet held only 3 hangers. No provision for luggage to be open. Bed was very firm (wife says like a slab) but in good condition. Pillows thick as placemats, but after asking, they brought two more. Bathroom was small with no shelf for toiletries, but was very modern, clean and in good condition. Hotel provides no washclothes at all and only one bathtowel per person per day. Room had flat screen TV and remote worked. Neighborhood is great, very quiet, with lots of trees and convenient to subways and buses. Spartan lobby with only a few small tables and chairs, a one seat computer available for $1/10minutes and softdrink machines. Extra bathrooms in the hallways were also clean and modern.

The hotel is cheap, which is nice, but there were mice in our room :-(

I booked this at the last minute and was very pleased overall. The space is tight but the people are friendly. It's very close to the Red line and Broadway which allows you to get just about anywhere quickly. If you're driving in there are parking garages nearby which is also helpful. I would stay there again.

The building was pretty well kept, even if the rooms are scruffy and need to be updated. The staff is nice, and if you need to be in the 90s on the UWS it's okay. I'd do it again maybe. But my real complaint was that I had a room right by the doorway, and it was people slamming the steel door all night. Relentless. Other people complained I guess too, because the second day there was a sign on the door, and I hadn't said anything.

Great location. And that is all this place has to recommend it. The room was such a filthy carpet, it was scary. The music in the lobby is mind numbingly loud even at 7 am, which was when I checked out after one night. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. But the condition of the rooms is just so awful there's nothing they can do to make it better. It is exactly what I imagine being locked in a prison cell would be like. Don't do it.

Having read the reviews and secured a reduced rate, I was quite accepting that it was going to be "cheap and cheerful". That would have been fine, except they also proved more or less incompetent. Upon arrival I checked in and looked in my room to find that it was being renovated (black plastic, power tools, exposed fittings, etc.). When I returned to the desk to report this the staff member at first seemed not to believe me, but then relented and went searching for another room. She wasn't able to find one of the same type I had booked, and began to explain to me that there weren't any rooms, but after speaking to the supervisor they reluctantly agreed to put me in a larger room with 2 beds. So far, so good. The room itself was basic, but clean and good value for what it was: no complaints there. I went out into New York the next day, and upon returning later I took the elevator up to my room, and found the card wouldn't let me in. Returning to the lobby, I showed my ID & booking reference, and the staff member re-keyed my cards. I went back up and entered the room, to find all my belongings missing! After a few seconds the phone rang, and the staff member called me back down. Apparently what had happened was that during the day a 1-bed room had become available, so the hotel had taken it upon themselves to move me into that room, but then not bothered to let me know this was the case. I was confused, because he kept referring to a room number which wasn't either of the ones they'd put me in, and he started to raise his voice and then talk slowly to me so I'd be able to understand, which I thought was unecessary and quite insulting. When I was describing to the supervisor how displeased I was about having my belongings moved without any permission or prior consultation, he indignantly informed me that I had only paid for a 1-bed room, and they had done me a favour by putting me in a 2-bed for the first night. So far as I've found so far there's nothing missing

Okay for price. No hot water for showering in our room. Very small room, but great location for us. Would not stay there again but it could be a good value for some.

Quiet, clean, safe hotel with good service. Not fancy, but great considering the area. Great deal if you just plan to be in NYC to enjoy the city and just need a place to sleep.

Although the hotel is located in an excellent neighborhood and close to public transportation and cultural/business/university places, it needs an urgent interior renovation (furniture outdated and carpet worn out). I rented a bedroom with private bathroom and I paid an extra for this convenience . Although I did not expect the interiors of a 3,4,5,6 star hotel, I expected a better reception area and a better bedroom (furniture, carpet, electronics, bedding). Minor expenses that will help the hotel offer a better service.

I was completely shocked when I arrived at the hotel to discover that there were community showers/baths--perhaps I overlooked that in the hotel description. Although subway stations are close, the location is only close to Central Park. The bathroom had only one shower and toilet and the water was cold. The elevator was extremenly small and could fit only 2 people with luggage at once, so it took forever for the elevator. We checked out of the hotel after only one night--it was that bad! Worth spending a little more to stay in Times Square or somewhere that actually has a shower and bath in the room. Was very dissapointed.

Good location, however, crummy condition, poor upkeep, bad mattress.

Pictures are very deceiving. The room reeked, bed and bedding was old and uncomfortable. Room was 9x9, very small, dirty carpet! Shared bathrooms with other guest on floor. Rip off!

Can't say exactly why this hotel didn't cut it with me. I've stayed at many other places similar, but this one struck me as a lonely place. It was clean, quiet (except for some external hotel noise that every room was exposed to), but still didn't feel welcoming.

The bathrooms and bedrooms where very dirty and the smell of the rooms was horrible. overall the hotel needs major remodeling and the carpet was nasty.
