The staff was friendly and helpful. We didn't realize that we had booked a room with shared bathroom facilities. The bathroom/shower room for the ladies was clean, but a bit far from our room. My husband said the men's room was not as clean. The men's shower room was ok. The hotel is quite old and there was no elevator. Difficult with large pieces of luggage.

Miserable experience but I have stayed in this place a bunch of times before. I just can't quit this place. I am somewhat of a masochist. Everything about this hotel is just below average...just bad enough to notice. I will continue to stay here and have my coworkers stay here just for the horror stories.

Nice location, staff was also quite helpfull. The state of the hotel is beyond anything I have ever seen in a western country! Paint off walls, frames, closets, shared bathroom, beds which served for 25+ years, extremely noisy rooms, single glass windows (in centre of london!!) I travel very frequently but i have never seen anything like this before.

The best part about this hotel is the location - ten minute walk from Victoria tube station - but honestly, the cons about the hotel itself overwhelm the pros. The reception staff are nice but incompetent and don't know the answers to the most basic questions about London - bad for first-time tourists. The room itself was dismal: peeling paint, flickering lights, terrible beds. Also, the room only has a sink; you have to walk down a long corridor and through two sets of doors to get to the bathroom and the shower. As a woman travelling alone, this was really creepy at night. The absolute worst part of the entire hotel is that the showers have no locks on them, so anyone could just walk right in. I did NOT feel safe. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel unless you're travelling with others and you absolutely want to be based in the neighborhood.

Very very disappointed. Asked for a double room when bookimg, which was confirmed, got one with FOUR single beds. Uncomfortable with uneven springs. No en-suite and the bathrooms were clean but reminiscent of school. They were surprisingly full so no flexibility to change rooms. Unfriendly check-in staff, but the manager did try to patch things up, but no concession to my wishes. A fabulous location, some modernisation would this exceptional.

The location is good, service is better than my expectation.

The bedroom are very sparse and one up from a Youth Hostel. Communal showers and toilets although separate facilities. Helps to read the small print. There are cheaper hotels with better facilities.

We only stayed for one night, and both check-in and -out was painless and the room was nice and tidy, when we arrived - even though the hallway was smelling kind of weird, could be new painting. The beds themselves weren't the greatest, though, but for just one night it was OK. TV and zink in the room were fully functional, and the bathrooms in the hallway were surprisingly nice, so it didn't matter that we had to share it with the others visitors. Breakfast was OK as well. All in all a very cheap and relaxing stay close to the underground, food and Buckingham Palace. Thanks!

We came to london for a wedding expecting to stay in a nice clean hotel. we are SO WRONG! Staff were friendly behind the reception. Our room smell of paint, the bedsheets were stained. Old wardrobe and chipped walls. Old beds. Shared bathroom and toilets, with no toilet paper! At breakfast the staff were not friendly at all. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. We were very disappointed as we had 2 children there aswell, luckily we took our own pillowcases and sheets, and food!

Location excellent in relation to Victoria station and Westminster area. Room itself shabby .carpet stained. no tea making facilities. No en suite.toilets at end of corridor. Womens showers at some distance from bedroom and lacked privacy Four in a row. Have seen better student university accomodation! Easily worst hotel bedroom I have experienced - Room G4 Breakfast/ dining room satisfactory. .

Former King's College turned into hotel has a good location. Collective bath and old apartments, but clean. I've seen many beatiful people enjoying the hotel, probably because it is affordable and reasonable in terms of accomodation.

For the money I paid I expected second class BB but the hotel wasn't bad. Was very clean and the staff was friendly. The thing I didn't like was no WiFi and 2 ponds for Inet is a little bit rediculous.

Hotel is in perfect place and from first look seems really nice. But inside is different world. Rooms are clean, but smell bad from smoke and old times. All things in room are at least 30 years old and have been used all the time. Hotel has old and not good working heating and bad windows, so in winter you have same tempter on outside street and in room:-( Breakfast if till 9 am, which means at 8:57 all stuff from hotel run into dining room and take everything, not just from buffet, but you have to almost persuade them to let you finish your plate. I would not go to this hotel again.

It's not like I went here expecting a luxury hotel, but this place provided less than what I consider to be the bare minimum--there wasn't even facial tissue (kleenex) in the room and there were barely enough towels. The customer service was appallingly bad for the UK. If I wanted to be treated like an inconvenience, I would have stayed in Paris.

Some things about this 100-year-old 'bargain' hotel come with the territory, such as having to walk a long distance down the creaky hallway in the middle of the night to reach the shared showers and bathrooms. The strong points are the price, and general location being walking distance to major downtown venues. The weak points are the narrow window for breakfast (7:30-9) and the unreasonable internet service: no wi-fi and only two overpriced desktop machines available. ANY hotel in London should do better.

The location, staff and bed linen was top class, the lack of a toilet & shower in the room I missed as I never stayed in a place with out them before, The beds were to soft for anyone with back trouble. The price of the hotel was very good.

Service: The staff were friendly and willing to help and looked very smart and professional in their uniforms. I realise the Wellington is a hotel and not a tourist bureau, but it surprised me that the three staff at the reception, when I asked if they had any information about the Thames Barrier, had no idea that the Thames Barrier existed! They did though get hold of a man who went on to the internet and provided us with information. My understanding of breakfast between 7-9am is that guests can at the latest enter the breakfast room at 9am - not that the breakfast is cleared out of the room at 9am sharp. The girl checking the guests room numbers coming to breakfast should be allowed some other little interesting job at the same time, just waiting to put a ring round a number must be boring - she certainly looked bored out of her mind every morning which may reflect on the guests impression of the hotel staff in general. The cleaning staff were pleasant and always had a smile. The hotels framework: The furnishing in the bedrooms is really rundown - worn and stained. Particularly the wardrobe/cupboard in our room (214) was appauling. We worked out that the Wellington has earlier been a Hall of Residence, but it is simply under all "hotel" standards to have a cupboard in that state. There were three penknive carvings and the cupboard had obviously at one point been broken into with a crowbar or something similar. That and the fact that there was a device on which to put a padlock suggested to us that the security of the hotel was poor and hinted that other guests could have more on their minds than being just tourists in London! For our second night my husband turned is mattress over to escape the springs that were trying to stick into his back the previous night! In conclusion: Your staff are doing a good job - the really poor condition of the hotel doesn`t do them justice. London, as all capitals is an expensive place to stay especially in the center of town, but

I booked two nights for my boyfriend and I at the Wellington Hotel. Biggest mistake I could have made. For nearly half the price, I would have gladly stayed at an airport hotel that takes an hour to get to on the Tube plus a 20-minute shuttle ride each time I felt like going into London. Double room...apparently that means you get two twin beds on opposite sides of the room...not that the rooms are big enough for it to matter much. There is no privacy whatsoever in the shared bathrooms and showers at this hotel. Everything was filthy, and the breakfast that was included wasn't worth eating. All-in-all, I cannot recommend this hotel. It was the worst experience in travel I have ever had.

I have stayed in many hotels, in many countries around the world - but this, by far was one of the worst hotel experiences I've had. Rooms are very dirty & tired, no bathrooms/showers en suite, Rude staff, very few in-room facilities, no on site hotel facilities. Breakfast, very poor quality. This is a glorified guest house - & not a good one at that. Walk on by - don't stay here!

Good if you're on a budget. Room was small and beds not comfortable but the breakfast was good and the location was very convenient to many major sites like Westminster Abbey.

The Wellington Hotel is in a safe neighborhood and is a 15 - 20 min walk to all the classic tourist attractions (ie. Westminster Abby, Big Ben, London Eye...). It is about 10 min walk to the Tube's Victoria Station. We didn't love it b/c we enjoyed the less touristy stuff more than the historical areas. Shared facilities are not my favorite either; but the price is very fair considering it is in Westminster and looks like classic London.

We were looking for a cheap hotel for one night so we could be near Victoria station in the morning. We got a room at the Wellington and for the most part it was fine. The place is old, bedding from the 50's and felt like you were wearing a lead vest, but breakfast was good and for the cheap price we paid, what do you expect? However, there was a strong scent of varnish throughout the entire 3rd floor and in our room especially. If you stay there, hope that you're on the 1st or 2nd floor.

I booked a night in this hotel because it was relatively close to the city and I wanted a private room for my last night in the country after 3 weeks in dorm rooms in hostels. To be honest, every single hostel I had stayed in was better than this hotel. There is no wifi, whether free nor paid, which is absolutely unacceptable - espeically for people who are travelling and need to check flights, accomodation, train scheduled etc.. There were only two computer terminals in the lobby, and the charge to use the internet per half hour was completely overpriced. The staff were not overly friendly, and I had to wait in the lobby for close to 15 minutes just to check in. When I requested to lock my laptop up behind the front desk, they couldn't figure out how to operate the padlock on the lockers. Fortunately I had my padlock with me so I was able to secure it in the room. I had to ask for the return of my laptop twice before they would hand it back to me. There was a phone in the room, but the deposit was ridiculously overpriced as well. It was between £20 - £30 deposit just to make a local phone call. I had to make a private phone call from the telephone in the lobby as a result. The breakfast provided was only available between 7:30am and 9am, and I had to pay for half of it. The showers didn't work properly, and the privacy screen on one of the cubicles was completely clear. This, in a communal shower room, is also unacceptable. I would not recommend anyone stay here unless they are happy to book a private hotel room that doesn't even exceed the standards of a 12 bed dorm in a hostel.

this appears to be a very old dorm. the wood floors sound very rickety and when someone walks by your room to the bathroom you are awoken because the walls are so thin and the floors are so loud. there is very old carpet that tries to muffle the sound. there is chipping paint all over the place. it does not appear it has been painted since the invention of paint. the furniture appeared to be from garage sales and was scratched and dented. the bed moved when even the slightest turn was made in it. there was one toilet and 4 shower stalls on the entire floor for the men. there was no lift to take you to the upper floors. the internet service they provide is on their computer and they charge 2.5 pounds for 30 minutes or 3.5 pounds for 1 hour. you can not even use your own computer or device if you pay. the only good thing i can say about this place is that Westminster abbey, big Ben, parliament, and Buckingham palace were all about 15-20 minute walk.

I stayed in the Wellington three years ago when I was last in London so decided to stay there again as my previous stay was so short - only two nights, and was not really enough time to form any sort of opinion. Well the intervening years have not been kind to the Wellington - I realise that it is probably only a step up from a back packers hostel and that would explain why so many young people stay there as the price for it's location is second to none, but the rooms are pretty tatty. The old furniture in my room had definately seen better days and whilst the bed was very comfortable, the battered furntiure gave the room in general, an unloved and uncared for feeling. There were holes in the walls where something had been recently removed and the holes had been just left unfilled, however I noticed on my last day there, some pictures that had been hung to help disguise these holes, but it still did not take away the overall feeling of neglect. The breakfast room had the serving bar area taped up with some paper which looked awful! If you are not intending to ever use the servery, put a false wall there and cover it in! The Chapel was barred from use, if it was no longer to be a Chapel, do it up and put another sitting room there or more rooms. It's not as if these things would cost a fortune. I have to say that the staff were very attentive and were helpful in every possible way; nothing was too much trouble for them so I guess that is the Hotel's saving grace. And please, please, please buy the porter,chef, bell-hop, front of house man and whatever else he does around the joint, some proper gardening clothes (and tools) one afternoon when I was going out wandering around, he was outside, up a ladder hacking away at some errant vines growing over the wall with incorrect tools; AND still dressed in his uniform; complete with bow tie! In Australia its customary to have the correct clothes for the job - it helps protect the employee from accidents if they are wearing

The Wellington Hotel is somewhat rundown but clean. The bathrooms are fairly new and are kept clean. They are shared, dormitory style, amongst the patrons. The rooms are small but clean, and the beds are decent. One downside with the rooms is the lack of ventilation. You need to leave the window open, otherwise it gets very stuffy. It is located rather close to the Victoria Tube station, which is convenient.

The location is excellent! But the hotel itself...well, you get what you pay for, and absolutely nothing more. The room was tiny, no bed lamps and the tv in the room was not functional. When I asked the reception to order a cab for going to Victoria Station (quite nearby) I got charged almost 10£ (plus 5£ for paying with credit card), which they didn't inform me of. It seems anything in excess of the most basic is charged outragously. The breakfast is decidedly boring with only cheese, ham, bread and cereal - that's it.. You can "upgrade" to English breakfast for around 5£, but don't. You can get a full english breakfast in cafes in the surrounding neighborhood for les than the "upgrade". If you're on a budget and want an excellent location, the Wellington may be for you. But don't expect anyting except the most basic.

I guess this hotel is what it is. However, what I had no expectation of was that the rooms do not have toilets or showers - just a basin. I haven't stayed in a room like this since my backpacking days more than a decade ago. I'm really glad I didn't stay here more than one night. On the positive side, the staff at check-in (about 12.30 am) was efficient and positive, the breakfast included in the rate was okay (the ham was good), and they allowed me to keep my bag with them until 6pm so I could go out and walk around the Westminster area before moving to my next place.

Thanks mainly to the staff, its friendliness and efficient service, I felt at home and comfortable in a 5-night stay.

Basically, it was a bed in a room. Oh and there was a sink. One bathroom for entire floor with only one toilet and shower. No air. Seemed pretty clean, but still questionable. Neighborhood was fine, but located far enough away from underground and other services as to be inconvient. Staff was very friendly.

Thinking I had booked a 3* hotel I was shocked to find this was a basic 1* with NO en-suite facilities and sharing the ladies bathroom with many other guests but only having 4 loos, 4 sinks and 3 showers...but was exceptionally clean and nicely laid out. However, I was also very impressed with the cleanliness of the room and the comfort of the beds...my best nights sleep ever in any hotel. I would recommend the Wellington but only to younger people who are maybe used to back packing and hostels as it is so basic. Considering we were facing a main road the room was exceptionally quiet as well, though we had to make our own 'designer curtain' for one small window which had nothing hanging at it...cushions and extra pillows came in handy. We had the continental breakfast which was plenty and a good variety. Couldn't fault the staff who were very friendly and they did offer to find us a better hotel but we were too tired to bother with moving on.

Location and price were great but not having a bathroom is quite a compromise.

Not quite as advertised. Rooms in very poor condition. Cheap rates given the location in central London but heavily overpriced for the service on offer.

No en-suite bathrooms No service with a smile No breakfast if you want to get up be 8am!! Even on the Royal Wedding day!! Rooms beyond basic! What a shame because it could be a beautiful place the building is stunning!!

hotel looks very nice from the outside and a dump in the inside.. Its advertised based on false pretence. more for students who dont mind roughing it for a night

It is a old hotel but very nice restored. There are only shared facilities but they new and very clean, absolutly not a problem at all. Even the breakfast was really enjoyable. The thing which really bad is that the use of the internet costs two 2£ for half an hour, we think this is far to much. They should install free WIFI.
