Palác U Kocku - براغ

The hotel was just completing a major refurb as we arrived in May 2013, so everything was in sparkling condition; all the bedrooms newly painted and with lovely shower rooms. The hotel is in an interesting old building in the heart of Prague (it even has a couple of Medieaval wall paintings) just round the corner from the market square and clock tower - so close I cld hear the clock strike from my bedroom. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and there was a good buffet breakfast in the restaurant next door. I shall certainly stay here again next time I visit Prague.

Well this trip didn't start well. Turned up at 10pm, only to discover Check-in closes at 9.45pm. When I say check-in you actually pick up the key from the video shop next door. A fact hidden away in the email from Hotels.com. Had I known at the time of booking I would have looked elsewhere. So this cost me an extra night in a hotel nearby. The hotel itself is basically in need of a major refurb, it's a bit dirty, the entrance hall ahs a very strange smell and nothing is anything more than basic. Basically go elsewhere, much better value to be had.

The hotel was in a great location, under 5 minute walk to Old Town Square and Orloje, and a 10 minute walk to Charles Bridge and Prague Castle. The food was okay and you get a 20% discount at the restaurant as a hotel guest. The staff was not as friendly as I would've liked, but they weren't rude either. Rooms were spacious and comfortable.

The hotel is a bit odd because you have to walk through a restaurant to get to it, but you can't beat the location. The room was fine (nothing special, but the TV had some interesting channels) and the hotel staff answered any question we had. The only big downside for us was no parking at the hotel. The closest garage was a 5 minute walk and it was a bit pricey (around 650 CZK a day.)

The location cannot be better. 2-3 minutes walk to the Old Town square and 5 min. to Karlov bridge. 10-15 min. to Staromestska metro. And the price is reasonable. The hotel has its own restaurant. The breakfast was included in the price and was just great. You get 20% discount if you have dinner in the restraunt.

Stayed there for a night with 2 friends and thought it was perfect. The hotel is very centrally located and the room was clean and comfortable. With an inclusive hot and cold buffet breakfast, you really can't go wrong! Would definitely stay there again.

I loved my stay! the staff were friendly and helpful. The location was fantastic and although right in the middle of the main must see sights was a quiet hotel. I would recommend to others.

The hotel staff was friendly and we were checked in relatively quickly even though we had eight people across two rooms show up two hours before official check-in time. As you ascend the old wooden stairs, you quickly see that the building is quite unique and every room is a bit different. Our room was a beautifully decorated pair (yes, two!) of 20x20 rooms with 12ft ceilings separated by a gigantic set of pocket doors. The main bedroom was extremely spacious even with a couch, love seat, chair, tv, and wood burning stove in the mix. Though the bathroom and its facilities lacked a bit in modernization, the majestic presentation and size of the rooms more than made up for it. One step right out the door and you're right in the mix of things by the Old Town Square. Absolutely everything is within walking distance of this hotel. I would definitely recommend this to others. One unique thing that may throw you off is that you have to enter through the restaurant to get into the hotel. Also, it gets a little rowdy late at night between 1am and 3am out on the street as people venture home after a few pilsners...the windows are pretty good at dampening sound, but you'll hear a few drunken cheers at any hotel around Old Town in the middle of the night.

Huge room! TV was terrible, flat screen is a joke. Great location, sparsely furnished. But really, if your spending a bunch of time in your hotel room, your not experiencing the place. The location couldn't be better! You are right near the center of the old town and around the corner of astronomical clock. Completely worth it.

The hotel is in a fantastic location - you couldn't do any better. The beds are doubles even though we wanted two single beds we got double. Apart then that - Brilliant!!

very noisy neighborhoud,bed is not in good condition, no safe, TV did not work, bathroom was spacious but shower inconvenient, no elevator, very hot in summer, room number 29: always smell from kitchen in the hotel room, at most a 2 star rated hotel.

Well we stayed three nights, and on the third morning, the shower was out if water for about ten minutes.... But the place was clean, comfortable, reasonable amenities- the television didn't work, no mini bar, but there is a safe. The wifi only works in reception, and sometimes you have to ask them to turn it on, but we stayed in room 25, which is pretty much right above the reception area, and sometimes the wifi would reach. The folks in reception are helpful, breakfast is reasonable considering it's free (the croissants weren't cooked all the way, but there were eggs, bacon, sausage, hard boiled eggs, and other options which were tasty). Overall, the place is good for its price, especially considering it is absolutely in the heart of the shopping district, but I wouldn't recommend the attached restaurant.

At first glance, this hotel seems to be in a great location for a decent price. The first night we stayed, our room was comfortable, quiet, and while it was a bit warm, the hotel provided us with a fan so it wasn't unbearably hot. The next night our room was changed, and the experience was miserable. There is no elevator, so we lugged our bags up the stairs, only to find a stifling hot room with no fan. We called the front desk to request one, but the staff were entirely unhelpful, and basically told us there was nothing they could do, despite the fact that there were fans in other rooms, and in the lobby. The new room was also toward the front of the hotel, and I can sleep through a lot, but the noise was relentless. Carts kept going across the cobblestone and drunken tourists at surrounding cafes kept us awake all night long. Between the 95 degree heat, lack of air, and the noise, we did not get a wink of sleep, which is not ideal when traveling internationally the next day. I would not recommend this hotel when there are so many others to choose from in the area.

Did not sleep for 3 nights. Way too much nosie below the windows, and could not shut the windows due to the heat. Asked if I could move into another room and the front desk told me they would let me know and they never got back to me. Would not use this hotel again, too many other options in Prague.

A good clean reasonably priced hotel and very central. The room we had was a bit noisy but if you closed the windows then it was OK. It certainly didn't disturb us after a full day walking around Prague. Restaurant area reasonaby priced and good

and would especially recommend Cafe Savoy a little walk but worth it, good food is not cheap in Prague, dont buy a bottle of water anywhere near the square but try to find a mini mart or even better there is a Tesco

This hotel has no lobby-just a desk in the middle of a restaurant. The concierge was not friendly nor helpful at all and while the room was spacious, it was fairly uncomfortable. Wifi only in the restaurant if at all. Tiny elevator and super loud street noise.

middle of city where you can walk to anything very easy

Food and location was excellent. Very old hotel would need some updating, overall was good. Staff could be more helpfull

Great location but this hotel is far from a 4 star hotel, but at the price you cannot beat it.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel U Kocku. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere was great, breakfast was great with many choices, and the room was immaculate, very spacious and very well decorated. This hotel has a very convenient location for getting around Old Town, the one drawback is its a bit loud on the street around the hotel late at night with partying and music, but that comes with staying at such a central location.

After a small room in Paris, and an old room in London, we were unsure what Prague held in store for us. Well Hotel U Kocku blew us away! Outstanding service, a nice size room (not huge but just what we needed) and friendly staff. The price is more than in line with what you get. If you want to stay in Prague for a decent price and feel comfortable in your sleep try Hotel U Kocku!

Hotel located in the heart of old town. Breakfast was great and fresh. Bathroom had a weird smell and think it was the water. Room was LARGE and beds were great. Fan and fridge were nice additions. No elevator!

Stayed at single room but no lift there! No air conditioner, electric fan equipped. Opening window will annoy you by smell of grill and noise of outside. Bathroom has no curtain by window despite curtain rail there!! Neibour window is blinded but feeling no good, especially for women. Shower head holder is not equipped, need some technique for washing your hair and body. Location is very good but difficult to find the place, you have to go through restaurant to reach reception. Staff is fair, Recommend to stay not in Summer with less baggage.

One of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. This place was more a hostel than hotel, if that. I had booked 2 rooms for 5 nights. When we arrived, there were holes in the walls, hairs all over the sheets and pillows, and very shabby furniture and beds. More than half of the furniture had parts missing. The beds were unstable and the sheets and towels had holes that you could slip a finger through. One of the showers had mold in it. Basically, the infrastructure of the hotel was badly in need of repair. The internet they promise requires an ethernet cable. Furthermore, the staff was very unhelpful, untrained, and at times, rude. This hotel does not deserve the rating it deserves. The only good thing about this hotel was the location, which is a 2 minute walk to the central square. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Pros: Great location, right in the heart of where all aciton is in Prague. Right next to Charles bridge, old town square and more. Helpful staff. Big rooms. Cons: None. We stayed in the apartment rooms, which was quite spacious.

But quite old, no air-condition (if that is important). Great service when arriving to the hotel. No parking nearby, and one of the staff joined me in my car to take me to a parking house. Located absolutetely down-town in the centre of Old town, close to everything you need.

This is a wonderful hotel. It's clean, it's in a GREAT location, great price, good breakfast, etc. However, because of it's convenient location, IT'S LOUD. It would be perfect in winter because it has double windows, but when those need to be open because of the heat, the noise is certainly a problem.

This was a lovely place to stay and experience the character of Prague in the center of Old Town...an easy walk to many sites and right in the heart of all the action. Our particular room was very spacious and comfortable, accommodating 4 guests and surprisingly included a leather sofa, loveseat and chair in the sitting area. We had lots of openable windows and a great view of the interesting roofline and the shops on old cobblestone streets full of tourists and locals (who could sometimes be a little noisy) six floors below. A complimentary breakfast was provided near an elevated grand piano in the fancy converted ballroom of this former mansion. Our only minor issue was that the bathroom door handle had become unattached prior to our arrival and was not fixed during our stay, but it wasn't a major concern to us as we could prop the door shut with the wastebasket. The ambiance of the Hotel truly outweighed any small inconvenience. Be warned that driving to the Hotel in the Old Town area is next to impossible on these old, narrow, often one-way and poorly marked streets. We were almost fined by a local policeman for driving the wrong way after being directed by a well-meaning pedestrian as well as our rental car's GPS!! Parking is not available at the Hotel, but about a 10 minute walk away in a public garage (at your cost), so pack light! I HIGHLY recommend parking below the Rudolfinum and using a good street map to walk the several blocks to the Hotel, bringing your luggage with you. Also, our room had only dial-up internet, which did not work, although the front desk had working internet if we had really needed it. The staff was helpful and stored my small laptop at the front desk as there was no safe in our room. We would definitely return to Hotel U Kocku!

The Hotel U Kocku is a surprising mixture of history, food, entertainment, and of course normal hotel facilties. The location on Karlova Stree puts it at the heart of Prague life, but despite this my room was very quiet. Small on the outside the Hotel U Kocku is like a Russian doll: there are different elements inside one another with a theatre, resaurant, a mysterious iron door leading into what looked like much older space, and general sense that the building had seen much happen in a long history.

Our experience at the Hotel U Kocku was very positive. Our room was very clean and bright, with a high ceiling, crystal chandelier, and crown molding. The bed was new and comfortable, and the bathroom was very clean. An excellent buffet breakfast was included, with the usual Czech fare ranging from scrambled eggs to a variety of cold cuts. The staff spoke English and was very friendly and helpful, and the location could not be more central to the major landmarks in Prague. The nights were cool when we were there, so the apparent lack of air conditioning was not a problem for us. I suspect that July and August would not be as pleasant. Also, the street noise is an issue if you choose to keep your windows open. That is unavoidable, given the excellent location and the late-night activity in Prague.

You walk through a busy restaurant to find a small table with clueless staff. My room was merely an old closet with a matress on the floor. It was dirty, loud, and if you've driven there's no parking anywhere near by. I ended up looking at my room and walking right back downstairs and leaving. Terrible and I will NEVER book that hotel again.

Great location - it is in the center of everything for tourism. And great price for Praha (Prague). But don't expect a 4 star service or room condition.

Hotel is right around the corner from the Old Town Square..great place to eat and perfect base for walking around Old Town Prague. Staff was friendly and spoke English well. Building is old, in a good way. There is a restaurant downstairs which looked nice, but we did not eat there because it serves mediterranean and we wanted to taste local food. There was a lot of loud street noise until 2-3am, but you are staying in a tourist area of Prague after all. Hotel has wired internet for free, slower DSL speeds but fine for web access. Our jack was beside one of the two beds, not sure why they didn't run a cable to the desk. Staff did offer a cable to us but we had our own. Over all, enjoyable experience.

The Hotel U Kocku is located in the midst of Old Town so the location is great! My room was over the restaurant bar and there is no air conditioning so the noise was unbearable until the room cooled down enough to close the windows. Because of it's historic nature air conditioning was not expected but the noise level was a problem .
