We loved our stay at the Catalonia. IT WAS AMAZING - the beach was incredible. The service was attentive and nice. The only issues with our stay were that the Mexican restaurant and everything associated with it were spectacularly bad (we had lunch and dinner at that place the first day, and got really depressed. The rest of the food was MUUUCH better). Also, we didn't understand all of the events at the resort or the "perks" of our Privileged reservation until part way through our trip.

We stayed at catalonia beach hotel for 11 nights in june 2011 . the resort was very nice . awesome beach , nice staff, pretty clean rooms . food not bad. we rented 4 rooms . on night 2 one of the rooms was broken into. my sons expensive camera was stolen . the camera is a yr old, so he likely does not have the receipt. the hotel wanted a copy of the receipt to replace part of the camera cost . my others sons room ...had improper locks on the patio doors as well. took 24 hrs and they came to fix it . they said we could not prove the camera was stolen. the charger and the case were there ..but the camera which was on the bed was gone . how you prove this is unkown to me . but patio doors did not lock properly on 2 rooms . the hotel gave us a lobster dinner for 6 people because of this . but at one point , we did not ask for this ....there seemed to be an assumption that this would make up for the camera. my son still does not have $ for a new camera . and when we left the hotel , we had to ask for the address etc to send something back to the hotel if he finds the receipt. seems like he is likely out his waterproof olympus camera . the staff that works around the resort are super friendly and nice . we enjoyed our stay because of them . the beach is clean and fantastic. the food is good . the grounds of the hotel are nice and well kept and clean. you cannot swim in the pool after 8 pm . annoying, and the worst part of this resort is the cost of staying there in trerms of transportation. there is no free shuttle out of there . so it costs $22 US ONE WAY for a cab to playa del carmen. then $20 return. 40 dollars is a huge cost everytime you wish to leave there should be a free shuttle several times /day. you cannot walk out of the resort either to catch the bus unless you are prepared for a very long dusty walk down the road to the highway. the walk would be likely one mile or more .i would think at least a mile. and its a long dirty road out of there. so you have no

I know what all-inclusive hotels should be like; I'm from Jamaica. I have to say that Catalonia is by far one of the best that I have spent time at. I have spent time at 5, 4, all the way down to no star hotels, and this would easily register as a 4 star. You will love the staff, very friendly and attentive, in keeping with the family style hotel that it is.

The hotel, while not lacking any comfort is still being kept as natural as possible with a beautiful lobby which indeed is a meeting and lounging spot. The villas are located in a beautifully landscaped forest and the rooms are very practical and clean with beautiful bathrooms. A beautiful beach is right at your doorsteps. The food in the restaurants is very good, especially the buffet restaurant has an extensive variety of food with lots of fruits and vegetables and changes daily. The staff is very friendly and always available. We could not have been more satisfied with our stay at the Catalonia.

Lo rescatable del hotel es la playa. Las habitaciones super humedas, poca cortesia en la atencion, la comida regular, de los todo incluidos que he visitado este no me conformo. Por mas que estes de vacaciones las distancias incomodan . El tema de las palapas para pasar un dia de playa resguardado del sol , era agotador, habia que levantarse antes que amaneciera , si a las 6 de la mañana , para poder acceder a una, la verdad es que este tema se repite seguido, pero irte de vacaciones y tener que madrugar asi ,resulta muy incomodo. Si querias descansar tenias que resignar tu dia de playa, porque como esta el sol de dañino, deberian pensar en una solucion para que todos los huepedes disfruten relajados su estadia. Mas en este hotel que la playa es amplia.

Un lugar diferente !! Hermosa playa privada, mucha vegetación, excelente infraestructura y una atención y servicios inmejorables.
