Using Hotel Mela as our base, we saw 4 Broadway shows, ate in three world class restaurants and didn't walk more than 6 blocks in any direction. The rooms are actually large by NYC boutique standards, and you can almost literally fall out of bed into the Saju Bistro for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and across the street to see "End of the Rainbow." Second time we've stayed and we'll be back.

The front desk was very efficient and helpful. The room was clean, the bed was confortable, and the bathroom was convenient. We had some rpoblems with lack of warm water, but it was minor. All in all, excellent location and a very good hotel.

I stay in many area hotels for business, but this was my first time at Hotel Mela. Although quite small, even for NY hotel standards, the room was very clean and comfortable. Because it is in the middle of the block, the noise is reduced, which is a plus. It is in the middle of times square, with easy access to subways and all of the atractions. I would definitely stay there again.

Everything was great except for the door guy would rather just stand there instead of helping you open the door when your hands are full.

Very clean and quiet. Will definitely recommend it to our friends.We booked it through Hotels.com and got a very nice size room for a very good rate.

Excellent i enjoy it

When we arrived they gave us a room that was ridiculously tiny for two people, especially given what we were paying (even for NYC). We complained and were able to switch to a much more reasonable room for the balance of our stay. One we made the switch our appreciation of the hotel increase significantly.

Tiny room, but functional. Very comfortable bed. Great hotel for great price. Very clean.

The location for this hotel was AMAZING and really worth the rate to be this close to 42nd and Time Square. However the bed was way too firm and I believe was a full size not the queen I requested. The walls were very thin and the overall room was very small. But it was perfect if you don't want to spend much time in your room. The local pub The Long Room was perfect for a late night cap and the Cafe Un Deux Trio was ideal for breakfast in the morning. Everything is easily within walking distance including the Subway. For the price and location this hotel works, however if you want any relaxing time in the hotel please do not select this hotel.

I have no negative comments about my stay at the Hotel Mela in NY-TimeSquare. From our arrival to our departure, the staff was very casual and effective. Although the room was small (what else can you expect from a hotel in Time Square where it's all about the square footage) everything was clean. We had everything we needed (bed, fresh linen, tv, wardrobe, mini bar, clean bathroom, etc.). Also, the hotel being close to all the must-see sights, we spent most of our time shopping and visiting and the size of the room didn't bother us much.

Had a superior room in the back, which eliminated street noise, but there was a lot of noise transference from the hallway. The room was kinda small, but would be ok for 1 person. Was glad to find that the minibar had condoms for sale.

Hotel Mela is clean and convenient and surprisingly quiet, considering that it's near Times Square. The location is extremely touristy with very expensive chain restaurants near by. Probably not great for a family as the room is small but many NYC hotel rooms are. Within walking distance of major landmarks like Radio City Music Hall. Overall, the stay was pleasant enough for one night.

Hotel Mela is conveniently located a block a away from Time Square. It wad very clean and cozy. I was surprised to get such a great rate on short notice. The rooms are small but very confortable. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a romantic weeken.

Probably one of the best boutique hotel in NYC!!!

MY WIFE AND I LOVED THE PLACE. IT'S WHERE WE ARE STAYING NEXT TIME WE GO TO NY. CENTRAL LOCATION TO EVERYTHING. WE WALKED THE ENTIRE WEEKEND, EVEN TO AND FROM THE TRAIN STATION. CHECK IN AND OUT SMOOTHE AS SILK.

Hotel Mela is a great hotel! The room was very spacious and clean. The location was great, just steps away from Bryant Park and Time Square. The only thing that may bother some people is that the lobby is extremely small, just the check in desk and a few chairs. As well as the elevators are very small, only fits 3-4 people. Other than that is was a fabulous stay!

For a one night stay while recovering from a long transoceanic flight, and then seeing the Times Square area, this hotel is ideal. Room was comfortable and clean (including window exteriors).

This was my second stay at the Mela. If you are the kind of person who doesn't need too much service in a hotel (concierge, etc), this is the perfect place. Not to say the service isn't great, because it is, but if you are a self-sufficient traveler, you will like it here. It is clean, comfortable and close to the lights of NYC! The rooms are compact, perfect for 1 person, maybe a little tight for 2, but if you are in NYC, you shouldn't plan to spend too much time in your room anyway! The location near Times Square is unbeatable. Being on the 16th floor helped with the traffic noise so try and request an upper floor room. I slept really well! I can't recommend it enough! I will be back!

The hotel was very clean and comfortable, although did not have any public rooms. The individual rooms were also rather small, but we only stayed 3 nights so we could cope. The bed could have been better - a bit lumpy, and not made properly by the housekeepers, but otherwise very good. The position was terrific. A few yards from Times Square, but very quiet at night, and it had a wonderful French bistro/bar next door which served great breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Overall a very good choice for our needs.

Awesome hotel right off times sq, couldn't have picked a better location! Room was way bigger than what I was expecting from previous reviews! Front desk staff were very helpful! Would definitely go back to Hotel Mela again!!!x

Very Central. Half a block from Time Square. Clean and comfortable. The room was smallish, but we didn't spend a lot of time in it, and I have stayed in smaller in London. Some night noise, but what else can you expect in central Manhattan. Good breakfasts available in the hotel's own restaurant next door. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Good deli up the street.

So glad I booked this hotel!! Stayed in New York for a long girly weekend and wanted to see and do as much as poss. Arrived at hotel, room wasn't ready as we were early so they stored our luggage. We walked to the shops, 5th avenue, Times square was around the corner, everything is close by. On the same street as the hotel is a Subway (food joint), and a cute little Deli selling fresh food, an ATM, a little gift shop, a lovely cocktail bar/hotel next door for quiet drinks. The room was clean, albeit small but it had everything we needed. Hairdryer, ironing board and iron, a safe, and it wasn't noisy. Usually in hotels I can hear doors shutting or people talking in rooms etc but this was quiet. The concierge was friendly and helpful in advising us of good bars etc. Room service was prompt and buckets of ice delivered when we asked. Will definitely stay here again!

We really love this Hotel. It is well located, clean and service is friendly. This was our second stay and it is where we will stay when we return.

There is no doubt that Hotel Mela is in a great location, literally seconds away from Times Square. But our room was not very loved...the staff were not very friendly and there was not much else to offer but a dark room and a MASSIVE minibar that we could barely get past. Was good for our purposes, but would probably try my luck elsewhere next time I was in NYC.

The hotel looks better in the picture because it was taken from the hallway. The bed takes up 85% of the floor space. The 15 % of carpet is dirty and gross. Had to put towels on the floor, only needed 1 1/2. Elevators look like they are from a FHA building. Staff friendly and helpful. Location was good for what I needed to do. Bring socks

When I arrived there was no reservation for me, booked thru Hotels.Com, but the staff worked with me to get a room. They upgraded me since my original request had already been taken. The location and accommodations were good. A nearby deli is great for breakfast or a light snack.

The location of this hotel was stellar. It was a few blocks away from Times Square and was within walking distance of different attractions. The concierge was nice but the front desk was not the friendliest. Two of the three elevators were broken during our stay so waiting for the one elevator was frustrating. The hotel room was small but what I expected for being in the heart of the the city. The room was clean and up to date.

This little hotel was PERFECT! It was like 2 blocks away from Time Square. I walked out of the hotel and I could see all the lights to my left. It is such a cute hotel. I went by myself so my room size was perfect for one person I think it could get a little annoying with two people. I called the front desk at all times of the day and night and they were always pleasant. All food in NY is expensive but some if just ridiculous like their room service menu. The elevators are tiny but operational. They arranged a car for me to get to the airport. All in all it was an EXCELLENT stay.

The location could not be better. On 44th across from the Belasco Theatre, you'll be to your favorite show in no time! The rooms are beautiful! The bed is super-comfy and loaded with soft pillows. The room is clean and a good size for NYC. I am 6'4" and often feel cramped in NY rooms... Not here. It was great. The AC works well. The Internet works well and is pretty speedy. I stayed for four nights and had no Internet problems at all. Service was friendly and very helpful. I got early check in and late check out, both with no charge. My room type wasn't available at 9am when I arrived, but she took my number and called me at 1015am so I could come get to the room and get some sleep after a Redeye. The ONLY cons for me were: - the non-view rooms may as well not have a window. They look into an inaccessible area between four buildings and receive no sunlight at all on the lower floors. - the shower works great, but is an example of form over function. My description won't do it justice, but when you see it, you'll know why I say that. Don't let this deter your stay. Just put a towel on the floor outside the shower and thank me later. :) I highly recommend this hotel. I have stayed at a more expensive property at 77 and Broadway... This was far better, and even more affordable. Stay Here!

Recently came back from a 4 night stay at Hotel Mela. I have only one criticism, one being that the rooms were quite small however, have been to New York a few times and think that this is an issue with almost all hotels therefore, I wouldn't say that it was necessarily a major issue as it's also just a base for showering and sleeping. Other than that the location was absolutely perfect, even though you are very close to Times Square you don't tend to hear any traffic noise or the general hustle and bustle. Very very clean which is my main priority staying at any hotel, it was also decorated to a good standard making it all in all a very pleasurable stay. The staff were extremley helpful whenever we needed to ask any questions, or needed a car to the airport. I would highly recommend this to others and would stay here again on my next visit to NYC.

Hotel Mela was the perfect choice for our first stay in NYC. The first thing to say is that the location was amazing, we were 10 steps from Times Square, and no more than a 10-20 minute walk from all of the main attractions, I don't think we could have stopped in a better spot. The hotel staff were soooo helpfull, before we even got there the hotel concierge helped me via email to book our transfers from JFK at a very reasonable price and we even got upgraded from a town car to a limo. When we got there our allocated room was a deluxe room which had lots of space, however we didn't have much of a view, we asked if we could move to a room on the front of the hotel higher up. This was no problem for them, they didn't have one free that night, but all we had to do was leave our luggage in the room the next morning and they moved it to our new room on the 12th floor on the front of the hotel. The room was slightly smaller, but still a great size with a great view, and fully opeing windows so that we could really take in the sounds of NYC! They also provided some great restaurant recommendations, a little chinese just round the corner with the best dim sum and an amazing steak house a few blocks away. Expensive but worth every penny!! All of this great service made for a brilliant holiday and we would absolutely stay there again.
