Very cool boutique hotel in downtown San Diego. Service was good and the room was sleek and modern. If you are going with friends, be advised that the showers are in the room and are open--there is no door and the glass is translucent. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. My only beef was that the surrounding bars made things very loud and it got to the point where it almost seemed like people were laughing and drinking IN my room. The interior of the hotel was loud as well--I could hear everything that the staff did and said (I think because my room was right at the top of the stairs leading to the lobby. Ultimately the room was comfortable and service good, but I would not stay here again.

Although the service was adequate, the hotel was absolutely overpriced for the services and room that we received. The room itself was essentially an overpriced college dormitory room - complete with drunken crowds outside the hotel EVERY NIGHT. No carpeting or privacy, small bathroom, and poorly placed and designed accomodations (such as sinks being too far back on high counter tops). The entire atmosphere was cold and unwelcoming. Also charged an additional (hidden) historic building fee per night. My own home is older than this hotel and 100X more comfortable. The staff were friendly but this did not offset the negatives. I would gladly pay $20 - 40 more per night to stay in a more quiet, comfortable, and restful setting. If your primary goal is to be close to the nightlife and crash somewhere in a drunken stupor, this is a good choice.

This was once a boutique hotel, maybe about 10 years ago. Now it is rundown, outdated, and out of shape. For the same price you could do MUCH better in San Diego. Just a handful of problems I had over my 4-night stay: no cold water to drink in the middle of the night, only only boiling hot water from all the taps (the concierge had to come and deliver a carafe and the water was fixed the next day after 10 am), the lights were operable by remote control and one had to find the sensor each time to turn them on or off, hot water issue repeated. The staff are friendly but if there's availability elsewhere, book elsewhere.

Great location it you want to bar hop. My room was on the 4th floor directly above Croce's Bar & Night Club so it was a little loud even mid week. Room was well appointed, comfortable bed but needed the "Wave" generator to mast the Night Club.

I recently stayed at The Keating Hotel in San Diego and loved every minute of it. The staff are all incredibly helpful, polite, respectful and extremely friendly (and all young and gorgeous to boot - sigh!). The room looked exactly like the pictures on their website which is always nice as I am sure I am not the only person who has booked a hotel and then checked in and thought I must be in the wrong place! The little treats they deliver to your room each night are scrumptious. Each room has its own doorbell so when they come round to deliver your treats they ring your bell so that you feel like you are at home (a cute little touch). The location is amazing as it is situated right in between 4th and 5th Street. You are a one minute walk to Horton Plaza Mall, about a 3 minute walk to the hop on hop off tour and right in the heart of all the shops, restaurants and bars. Being a female travelling alone I wanted to be right in the heart of the city as didn't want to be taking taxis or walking too far alone at night and this was perfect for that. The only downside to staying right in the heart of the action is that you do incur all the noise from the bars but I am sure you could always ask to be put on the other side of the hotel. My room overlooked 5th Street and was rather noisy (however I did stay there during Halloween) but this didn't bother me at all as I was just happy to be in such close proximity to everthing. I would totally recommend The Keating Hotel to anyone and would definitely stay there again if I am lucky enough to get back to San Diego.

Amazing!!! Me and my husband stayed 1 week beg oct at this fantastic magic,curios,well mantained,small,super service htl.If you are looking fore special travel memories this is the best place to stay! We had a junior suite and the confort and the details where so great that we where stunned. Beds,pillows everything was perfect. Thank u !

This hotel is not for the 70 year old couple that is visiting their grand children, it is for the 20-30 year old couple that wants to have a fun weekend in San Diego, CA. We had the "Stanza" room and it was well worth the money. The staff was more than friendly (and very accommodating)... The only tiff is that they charge $35/night for valet but the entire block does that, not just this hotel. They are the cheapest place to bring your pet ($25 a night) and they have a mat out front with water, a place for the pet to relax, use the restroom, etc. The room was very intense. The shower had no door (sexy) and a giant hanging spout, and sheets/comforter in each bed are to die for. Highly recommend this place for a romantic get away or a place for a single guy.

This is a wonderful hotel if you want to enjoy the nightlife San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter has to offer. Walking distance from everything. They must be watching the reviews on here, because all the negatives anyone wrote about this locale... none were experienced. We booked the night before on hotels.com. The staff was awesome, welcomed us each time we came down and each time we came back... Hot water was never a concern... We called the desk to get recommendations on food... got three nearby and they offered to make reservations for us. Called late Thursday night to get recommendations on places for a massage the next day... three options were waiting for us at the desk Friday morning with addresses and phone numbers. They even held our bags a few hours after we checked out so we could go enjoy walking around the city a little longer before heading home. When we got back, out bags were already in the car, and the car was pulled out front ready for us. Yes, it was loud at night. You could hear music and people outside late into the night and the trash being taken out in the wee hours of the morning. If you are going to turn in early... probably not for you. Yes, valet was pricey, but that's true anywhere in the area. You get in/out access and, with everything so close, you probably will not need your car until you pack up and leave. If a swanky-chic room in a 120-year-old hotel in the middle of the action is your style, this is a great choice. The king bed was incredible, shower with overhead raincan head was fantastic, and the surrounding neighborhood was awesome. They even brought cookies by each day. I'd gladly stay here again. I'd also recommend Roy's Hawaiian Fusion, Morton's Steakhouse and Artisian Day Spa in the area. And check out Chuck Jones (Looney Tunes) Art Gallery, just for fun.

I loved the hotel. The service was fantastic. The view wasn't the best and a little noisy, but I didn't mind it so much since it was so nice to see inside. The only thing I minded was the parking, valet was expensive.

omg!! the Keating hotel has by far been the best hotel room/service i've been thru and its right in the heart to downtown San Diego. Will definetly return on my next visit to San Diego. My wife and i enjoyed our stay there soo very much and customer service was amazing. overall a perfect stay.

This was a great hotel in a great location. However, the bathroom/shower is open with no door. So if you get a room with two single beds and plan to share with another person and you are at all shy, you might want to look elsewhere.

Noise until 2am because they don't have double pane windows. water barely warm in the shower. I reported this problem to the lady at the front desk, she didn't seem to care.

First and foremost the ladies up front were gorgeous. The room was trendy, cool old-fashion elevator, comfortable beds, amazing TV and Stereo System!!!

Lovely contemporary hotel, good location to all that I needed (convention center, Downtown and Petco Park). Amenities were nice; room service delish, staff very helpful. The opaque shower in the corner was a little awkward, but we draped sheets over the sides for more privacy

Historic hotel very close to every thing in the Gas Lamp. Staff is friendly and hotel is well kept. Good price but parking is expensive.

One word awesome!!!! In the heart of the gas lamp everything is walking distance! They can get.you on the guestlist even at places that don't have one. Celebrity treatment! People are awesome. That sums it up def worth the money

The hotel location is ideal. In walking distance to the convention center, shopping and a host of eating establishments.

The staff at the front desk and the service/cleaning crew were wonderful; very professional and helpful. I loved the decor and the ambiance too. I felt very comfortable there at all times. Just two details that I was a bit disappointed about; 1) the rooms are not as big as they appear on the advertisement pictures and; 2) I would have liked to know that the parking was not included. All in all, I would recommend your Hotel and would definitely go back. Thank you!

Couldn't fault it apart from the fact that it is opposite a bar that is very noisy at night. Not for light sleepers. However it is so central you can't have your cake and eat it too.

Best service EVER! Ask for John, he is your man! Clean, modern. Great choice.

what can i say.. amazing hotel in the best location around gas lamp. about a 20 dollar cab ride from the airport. Staff was exceptional, room was clean . The shower was fantastic, not very much privacy from who you are sharing the room . Staying there for sure again.

The hotel is located in a historic building (surcharge), however, the interior give no hints that any historic features have been preserved (except the noisy lift). The lay out of the room could be very intimidating as everything is in one space i.e. toilet, shower and bed - thus everything is shared with everyone present in the room. The hotel is very conveniently located in the Gas lamp district close to very good restaurants.

I stayed at The Keating for a quick trip. The location was great in the heart of the Gaslamp. There was no shortage of bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and entertainment within a 3 block radius of the hotel. The staff was knowledgable, friendly, and very helpful with information about the area. My room was clean, modern, and absolutely perfect. The two things I wish could be improved are free wireless in rooms and the noise, my room overlooked an alley were bars would take out their bottles around 3am. This hotel is nicely located and many sights of San Diego are within walking distance. It was only a 5 mile cab ride to the hotel circle where I had family attending a conference. All in all it was a great place to stay.

Keating Hotel is hip and chic with an urban edge in the decor. Barefaced brick, concrete floors, and colors of gunmetal and blood-red run throughout the building. Front-desk service was EXCELLENT, was upgraded and didn't even know it. Room was spacious with Jetson-like pod-bathtub and TV in one room, bedroom and TV in the other side. Bed was firm and cozy, but they provide earplugs for a reason. Croce's jazz club was direclty below, and the music plays loud until almost midnight (weekday stay). But this is Gaslamp, so don't expect the sidewalks to roll-up at 9pm like in El Paso. Shower is OUTSTANDING, with huge square downpour showerhead. Water too soft for my liking, didn't feel like I could rinse all the way clean, but overall I enjoyed the stay thoroughly and will bring my wife for a weekend stay next time.

My girlfriend and I enjoyed our stay in this beautifully designed hotel, which is perfectly situated in the heart of party central, Gaslamp style. There are many hot spots to eat, drink and be merry within walking distance of the hotel. If you like mai tai's and island food, then try Mister Tiki's Mai Tai Lounge across the street..the food was great and they have $5 happy hour drinks everyday from 5p-7p. The hotel features a steam powered elevator, which vibrates the building when fired up and in motion. At first, I thought the pent house suite above us had a vibrating bed before I realized it was the elevator. But hey, it was built in 1890 and it still works! While the hallways are covers in thick, blood red plush carpets, the suites have no carpets whatsoever, which makes the room kinda cold. I'm sure the lack of blood red plush carpeting in the room has something to do with them allowing you to bring small pets that tend to love the smell of blood red plush carpets... Everything inside the suite was top of the line; very large flat screen tv mounted on the wall with Bang and Olufsen speakers and sound system. Remote controlled overhead lighting, night shades, free wi-fi, espresso machine and a very big comfy bed, though if you're over 5' 7" your feet are gonna hang over the mattress. I was thankful for the espresso machine but disappointed they don't offer room service as advertised...had to hit Starbucks across the street for yogurt and coffee. Overall great stay. It's a nice place for a romantic getaway with or without Silky the Sky Terrier tagging along. Ciao!

A hotel staff member met us at our taxi to carry in our luggage, the well mannered house Boston Terrier greeted us at the door (pet friendly hotel), and a gracious staff member checked us in and ensured that we were aware of points of interest nearby. The Keating offered a great staff and a pleasant stay.

The Keating Hotel is an amazing and unique experience for those wanting to explore the Gaslamp District to the fullest. We traveled down from LA to stay a night in San Diego after a concert at Cricket Wireless Amphitheater. Distance and traffic was not a concern at all from the hotel. Check in was quick and easy. Service was great as a friendly staff person escorted us to our room and told us some interesting history about the hotel and the designer. The Keating has a little over 30 rooms total, so in a strange way it has the familiar and intimate feel of a bed and breakfast. We stayed in the base room, the Stanza, and were on the Penthouse level. The high ceilings made the room feel very spacious. The amenities are a huge draw to the unique world this hotel leads you into. Espresso machine in the room, the Rain shower with open doorway, the remote control for everything, the industrial, yet welcoming interior design, the Italian car models in the hallways, etc. This place screams sexy and hot, and I would highly recommend for couples. The blackout shades for the windows combined with one of the most comfortable beds I have ever laid in created an extremely good night's rest and relaxing morning. The hotel's location is superb. You are in walking distance to everything the Gaslamp district has to offer. We hit a couple of bars that night and grabbed some late night pizza and walked back home. The next morning, we woke up and went to grab lunch and watch NFL football with some awesome rowdy fans at a local pub called Maloney's. My only complaint with The Keating is the elevator, which is a historic landmark to say the least, being the first one ever in San Diego. My complaint is not with the slow ride up and down, but with the noise it creates that can be heard from inside the room. I understand because of historical reasons, this timeless piece gives a lot of character to the hotel, but it definitely distracts from an otherwise amazing experience. Maybe some b

Very stylish! Not your regular hotel with wall-to-wall carpet and generic art on the walls. The room was very open with high cielings, concrete floors and the shower in the bedroom. It reminded me of a loft apartment. Next time I'm in San Diego this place will be top on my list of places to stay.

The upside is that it is a very unique/boutique hotel. No detail was overlooked. The decor is saturated in red and black and is very modern. Bathrobe, slippers, shampoo, conditioner, mouthwash, soaps, heavy duty espresso machine's in each room. It's located in the heart of the Gas Lamp district and everything is quite walkable. The downside is that it's in the heart of the Gas Lamp district and if you have a room facing the front of the hotel the partying will go on all night and the cleanup noises in the morning will make for a very noisy night - if you need to sleep. Prior to my trip I requested a room in the back but did not receive such upon check-in. They did move me 2 nights later once one became available.

The staff was so friendly and hospitable and really paid special attention to us. The urban loft feel was different and cool, as a couple we really enjoyed it. Everything in the room was very high quality. The bed was very very comfortable and we never wanted to leave it. The furniture was cool, there was tons of storage if you were traveling with a lot of stuff. We loved the free internet and the many cable channels to choose from. You can walk to everything downtown, including Horton Plaza and the ballpark plus many awesome bars and nice restaurants. I would definitely stay at the Keating again.

Very unique hotel. Have never stayed in such a modern hotel. They have thought of everything. The glass enclosed shower is in the middle of your room. The hotel is in the heart of the gaslamp district. Unless you are a late night person you might want to get a room off of 5th street - or bring you ear plugs as the party goes on until the bars close.

Hotel very conveniently located in the center of everything! Can walk to all the bars and restaurants. And there is a mall right around the corner. I did not like $30 a night for parking. But great location and comfortable beds. very unique set up of room. Great recommendations for places to eat!

If you're looking for a hotel that breaks out of the generic form of 95% of the rooms out there, AND you like the clean lines of modern European styling with a splash of red, then The Keating is your choice. The description of "sexy and sophisticated" definitely applies here, and its location in the Gaslamp district means night life is never far away. The appointments for the spacious room were top notch, including a Lavazza Expresso machine (!!) with complimentary cups for brewing. I was travelling for business and found it comfortable and convenient to the convention center, this place would be ideal for young couples looking for a fun get-away to San Diego.

The room itself was small but well appointed - we were initially disappointed by the room, but the staff moved us to a corner room which gave us enough room for two people to move about with constantly running into each other. Great loft style room with exposed brick, great windows and high end audio/video - the shower and sink are right in the room with you though...

We were not able to check-in to our room until about 6pm, almost 2 hours past the scheduled check-in time. This factor was terribly inconvenient for us because we had tickets to attend the KIFM Jazz Festival, and had to keep coming in/out of the venue to see if our room was ready yet. Management did however, send a plate of cheese and a bottle of wine to room after we were situated in our room. Our room faced "E" St, and above music club open until 2am, which was very noisy, recommend asking for room in the back of hotel.

This hotel is so nice. The red carpet in the halls and loby give it its own unique style and the suites are so big. I loved the jacuzzi tub in the living room area was great but the floors were slipery because of the tile floor. I didn't think I would be comfortable being that there was no carpet in the rooms but that didnt even matter. I would definatly stay there again!
