Staff is very good very good. Parking is the only real negative. You have to walk a little bit to get from the lot to the hotel and the walkway is shared with cars. The patio door wouldnt lock as it was rusted and the bedroom windows were difficult to open and close becuase of the rust. Its a new hotel , but the ocean is rusting their doors and windows. I would stay here again.

The property itself is nice - a convenient beachfront location on the island with a good pool and nice interiors. But the only thing I will remember from this stay is how appallingly terrible the hotel service and management personnel were. The thing I can't understand is how you can employ that many people who all share a determined interest in being as lazy, unhelpful, and rude at all times that they are on the clock. Surely they would accidentally hire one person that had any interest in helping their customers. We stayed here once before, and were willing to overlook one instance of incompetence. But after this second (and last) stay, I am convinced it is systemic and must go all the way to the top. They should be embarrassed, but the effort required will probably prevent that.

Sorry, but would not stay here again or recommend this hotel to anyone. We wll definately stay elsewhere when we go to South Padre. If I had not already been charged for the room would have never checked in to hotel. Front desk staff less then accomodatiing. Ultimate lie to tell someone they tried to contact you on your cell phone .....there is always a record on the cell....sorry the lie didn't work.

when I checked in there was an old piece of cheesecake in the fridge, which tells me that the room was notproperly clean

Excellent condo on the beach. Great pool and great beach. Condo unit was large, spacious and clean. Walking distance to several restaurants and shops.

Based on pictures, location, and description on netflix. I had certain expectations which were quickly destroyed once I arrived and stayed. This could be a much better hotel. It sure does have potential but they don't live up to the 4 star expectations.

Rooms are very large with a sleeper sofa and kitchenette. There's a huge pool and hot tub and a restaurant/bar onsite. It's right on the beach front, too. The only downside is the quality construction of the building. Some of the rooms could stand to benefit from some additional maintenance. In-room amenities like TV, shampoo, etc could use some improvement.

This resort is the nicest resort on the island the only fault in our recent stay was they refused to heat the heated pool and it being early fall the pool was much to cold to swim in.

Great Room, Great Service, and definately make it worth my dollars!!!! I have stayed in many hotels there and this is by far the best one in the Island!!! Customer Service was very adecuate and helfull at all times, will make it my home away from home at the Island from now on!!!!

The Peninsula Reort and Spa is not a four star resort. There was rust all around the bathtub and the front door, coffee stains on the stove, torn (white), window shades that had been taped with bright blue tape and the worst of all was the smell of the unit....it smelled so strongly of mildew that we couldn't sleep and it gave me a headache. I informed the woman at the front desk of this problem and she apologized and said that I could have a discount on my next visit......what next visit????...I won't be returning to "The Peninsula Resort and Spa". The beach area and the pool area were both very nice but it is hard to believe that the building was built in 2006. It seems much older. The resort does not have front door access. It was a long walk from the parking lot to the front desk with all of our luggage. The Peninsula Resort and Spa was the only four star hotel that my husband and I stayed at on a seven day getaway...the others were only three star hotels....and the three star hotels were superior.

This is not even close to a 4 star hotel. First of all, it doesn't even have a real lobby or amenities! There was no concierge or staff to really facilitate sight seeing or excursions. All of the room doors opened directly to the outside. It seems this is really a time-share or condo which rents space when it is available. The room was a nice size and clean, but there wasn't a lock on the sliding door to the balcony! We told them about it when we checked in and they said they would fix it, but they never came! We were continuouly asking for more towels and wash cloths. The restaurant service was extremely slow and the kitchen was not fully stocked. They didn't have orange juice for breakfast and only had one cook working! Breakfast took more than an hour to get to the table. The location was nice on the beach. The views were great. The pool area was nice. They had a swim up bar that apparently hasn't been functioning for months.... We were there on labor Day weekend which should have been the end of "high season" for them. We certainly expected more from the rating and the COST (even at the discount from hotels.com)!

We had the worst customer service at this hotel. We had purchased their "nicest" room, and got the worst service. The cleaning crew did not come every day until after 9 pm, even thought we had been asking for them since 9 am. Also, they never had towels available for us- come on, we're at the beach! Will never go back here, and I hope you don't either.

The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly enough. For the price we thought the spa and concierge were more expansive services. The pool was great and direct access to the ocean was also great. The pool bar was rarely attended to but the restaurant food and service were great. If I were to stay here again I would plan on bringing food though since eating at the same restaurant was getting to be a little much. Overall the experience was fine, no real complaints but not a great value for your money. Hotel seeemed to be right on par in ambiance/appearance as the surrounding hotels.

We stayed a week and had to pretty much abandon room service. They state that it starts at 8 and as of 8:45 no one was answering. Once they did, it took an hour to get food in. Room was OK, but would not go back there because of bad service

We were there for a girls get away, wanted to relax (left the kids and hubbies at home) and not do much of anything. Have been coming every year for the past 7 yrs. Usually stay somewhere else, thought we would try something new and less expensive. We were happy with the room size, very nice and worked perfect for us. Didn’t like the fact that we only had one room key between us all. They did let us keep the key at the office, just a little inconvenient at times. They are converting over to the key cards, like hotels have. We had to wait an hour to get beach towels the first day. Bar service was questionable. The outside bar wasn’t open and inside was slow and sometimes difficult. We loved the pool and of course the beach. The hotel has great potential, would love to see it succeed, but not sure… we were there on the off season too. My sister would definitely return, I’m 50/50 and not sure about the other two gals. The hotel staff were nice and friendly and the other guests we chatted with were nice as well.

I was disappointed with the lack of care the dining and front desk had. One example was I entered the dining room to order 2 coffees to go. Waiter had 1 table. Place was empty. It took him 20 min. to get me change after giving me my coffee. He made me wait till he served that 1 table, and still made me wait, then got a manager. All of the staff acted this way. No care for the customer.

This hotel has an excellent location, and an excellent swimming pool, but that's about it. The hotel service is horrible. They charged me $100.00 three days after I had checked out because supposedly I never turned in the room key when in fact I did! They are so unorganized! The check in office is basically a hotel room with a desk in it, and they keep the keys in a little lock box! I will never stay here again and warn anybody thinking about it to stay away!

hotel is nice, service is great, restaurants have great food and service, pool is beautifull but building needs a lot of work. doors are rusty, and everything needs work. comforters in room needed to be cleaned. just needs a lot of work. is ok for price

My family enjoyed it. The room was beautiful, we had a ocean front view. And the swimming pool is big. My 4 year old had a blast. My husband and I enjoyed the music and drinks by the pool area. I would like to go back during my vacation if the price is right.

It was great. We had a good time. My family enjoyed the stay. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. Thanks

suites were nice no personal alcohol or smoking at pool which is a pain , nice beach though, awesome town too

I was hesitant to stay at this hotel for Valentines day with my husband and I will never again doubt my better judgement. All the negative reviews below are right on the money. The parking lot is a VERY long walk to the hotel and, with bags, is very difficult. The hotel is not new but is under major construction and, after reading the reviews, has been for awhile. Please don't be fooled by the pictures of the room. It has nice deco in the pics but up close is cheap and feels cold. Nothing was open; no restaurant, no spa, no elevators, nothing. Please use your better judgement and opt to stay at Best Western or the Sheraton instead. You will likely be disappointed here.

The walking from the parking area to the building is about a 3 blocks distance. That was different. The check in was done in more like an office not a reception area... ok, I guess. The way to the room was filled with construction materials. Keys were assigned... Keys! who does keys no a days? The room sacrificed comfort for style. Had I known all of this I would have definitelly just gone to a more economical more inviting hotel... some of which I have been a gest at already. Not impressed!

What an awesome hotel!! Our room was right by the ocean!

My family and I had a great time staying at the Peninsula Resort. Beautiful pool, great drinks, close to the ocean, right off the causeway. Love everything about the place!

On the beach but hotel needs work.

The building we stayed in was being remodeled. I hope they fixed the halls to the rooms because the outside doors were rusty and ugly. Inside the room everything was very nice (a transformation crossing the door), clean and well equipped.

The Pros: This hotel looks new from the outside. Rooms were acceptable, clean, with nice balcony. Proximity to restaurants, schlitterbahn, and beachfront. Also, nice size pool. The Cons: The main issues were poor maintenance - Most entry way doors and handles were rusted, elevators not working, pool heater not working so water was freezing! Of the 2 hot tubs, only one was working. My wife and kids spent our time in the hot tub!

We were plesently surprised by our stay at the Peninsula. It was our first time there and we look forward to going there again. Only real issue was that our key could actually open the room next to us. It was handled in a timly manner. The pool was great and distance to the beach was perfect.

At that cost, seems overpriced. Inside rooms are nice and OK, outside poor maintenance , zero privacy ( best western located next to the hotel, most of the people at the pool came from there)

Hard to believe this is the same property advertised. Difficult to park, and find entrance. scaffolding through out property with out notice the construction was on-going. 3 star property on a good day.

Hotel was in a great location and the room itself was nice. However, the whole experience was ruined by the extraordinarily poor service. My fiance and I checked in for a 1 day retreat. 1. The Spa - We checked in on a Monday night. I tried 3 days in a row to contact someone in the spa. I left several messages. My call was never returned and as a consequence we were never able to book our massages. Upon check-in the concierge promised to have the Spa contact me in the morning so I could arrange the massages. That never happened. When I questioned a different person at the front desk on Tuesday I was told, "We need advanced noticed since the therapist has to drive into South Padre". 2. The Restaurant - We were planning to order room service on Tuesday morning. Once again, upon check-in I was told the restaurant would be open at 8am. I was unable to reach anyone at the restaurant. When I called the front desk I was told that the restaurant was closed and that they are always closed on Tuesdays. I went down to the front desk and questioned the concierge and was told something completely different..."We had a pipe burst and had to close the restaurant". They did not even try to bother to accommodate their guests since they could not provide room service. 3. The checkout - Checkout is listed as 12pm on the Resort's website as well as Hotels.com website. At 11:30 I get the 2nd knock from the cleaning lady who proceeds to confront me about why I am not of the room yet. She was confrontational and rude and was convinced that checkout was at 11am. At that point, we couldn't wait to get out of that hotel. I considered that absolutely ridiculous, but at this point it was the "icing on the cake" What a disaster. I one day retreat turned into a 24 hr. episode of stress and frustration. Do not waste your money on this hotel or if you do adjust your expectations. You will be much better off staying at a chain on South Padre Island. This hotel has a lot of potential, but needs t

The Penninsula Island Resort is not worth the money or peace of mind. I had booked and PAID (included taxes) for the room via hotels.com two months prior to my arrival. Yet, the hotel charged a $50.00 deposit and when checking out wanted to charge another $44.00 for something they couldn't even explain. I refused and had to show them my receipt from hotels.com in order for them to believe me and refund the full $94.00. The lady said it was a mistake made by the person who checked us in. What she didn't realize, it was she (herself) who checked us in. If you stay here, keep receipts, be aware of charges, and be prepared to argue charges. Secondly, the check-in office was in a very akward area of the hotel. It was not your "traditional" formal front desk, but more like a bedroom. The setting was very sketchy and made us uncomfortable. I noticed some had complained about the parking lot being a distance away. I felt it wasn't at all that far and hotel assistance (loud golf car) was quite helpful. Also, no one speaks english. Be prepared for communication issues if you do not have spanish as your secondary language. Lastly, the linens on our bed were extremely moist. Whether it was due to the hotel or humidiity, we do not know.

Pros:Good View, Nice Pool, Close to the Beach Cons:The rooms have tile floor throughout, which doesn't feel very inviting. The bathroom was dirty. The room service was a nightmare to get a hold of and when I told the front desk they actually said "try back later". The food from Room Service was mediocre at best. Overall: I would only go hear if the rates are far below other hotels in the area, but if they are even close, I would go elsewhere.

La expectativa que genera el Hotel Península, es mucho mayor a lo que realmente es. Se recomienda confirmar con el Hotel directamente el tipo de habitaciones que les darán al reservar por medio de Hotels.com, en nuestro caso nos dieron otro tipo de habitación argumentando que la pagina dice en caso de estar disponible. Si no estaba disponible cómo aceptaron el pago? Fuera de eso todo bien. El personal muy amable.
