The staff was really nice; the rooms are quite small but efficiently equipped. I would choose it again.

It was very nice. Good location and great value for the money

We really enjoyed our stay at the Sofia. It was a very clean, easily accessible hotel within walking distance of the Gaslamp Quarter. The room was very nice (a bit small) and the hotel staff was very friendly and accomodating.

Could have been a lot better. Also the front desk staff stare really badly...its kind of weird.

Excellent place where I've stayed several times.Too bad the rates have gone up so much I cannot afford it in July.

The location is great! We can go very easily everywhere downtown in San Diego. Close to a big shopping center, a convenient store, bus stop, trolley stop, lots of restaurants, Gaslamp, the Convention center, Ocean, a grocery store, etc. A bit bigger room will be make it even better!

We enjoyed the location of this hotel because it was close to the train station and the Gaslamp district. We had a terrible night's sleep because the AC was either on and freezing or completely off. The windows didn't open, and with the rooms as tiny as they were the air got extremely dry during the night which made it difficult to sleep. I enjoyed the style of this hotel but probably wouldn't stay here again due to the AC and air system - a good night's sleep is too important!

My boyfriend and I decided go book this hotel after reading all the positive reviews. We only had a couple days vacation and felt this would be a perfect place to go. Staff was WONDERFUL! Everybody from the valet to the check in personne, our great waitress in the restaurant to our housekeeper were all very professional and courteous. Yes, rooms are a little small, but my boyfriend and I felt it was perfect for our romantic trip:) I will definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and we'll definitely come back!

Overall, good. I was upgraded from delux king to 2 bedroom suite. Size was good. My only complaint, no roomservice. For a guy getting literally sick and tired from travel, walking anywhere sounded exausting. Other than that and the mandatory valet, nice place for the area. Certainly a lot of great history right across the street. Bar downstairs was open late on a sunday and served food. That was a plus!

We've stayed here a few times over the past 4 years and it's still a great hotel for it's location, but attentiveness to their maintenance seems to be waning. Our Queen suite had well-worn carpets and 2 CFL bulbs that were out. The service was still quite good but as the rooms are quite small (if you don't get a suite), we will consider other hotels in the area where once we would've only stayed here.

The hotel was in a great location convenient to the Gaslamp area and to public transportation to tourist attactions. The room was nice and very clean. The only negative thing I have to say is that there was no view.

The guys running the valet parking were nice, but for what you pay they should be parking your car in a covered structure. My room had a nice view of the lot behind the building where they parked the cars. At least it was fenced off. The room was small, but nicely decorated. The bathroom was too small. The shower was missing a glass door where you'd think one would belong. Have was covered by a glass wall, but since there was no door water would go everywhere. It didn't not appear as though it was missing, but intended to be this way. I will NOT be staying here again and would advise you to look elsewhere for what they charge.

This was our first time in San Diego let alone staying in a boutique hotel. When we arrived I guess we were booked in a smaller room but when the front desk agent saw all of our luggage he upgraded us to a room that would accommodate us comfortably. The best part of our stay was the bellman/ concierge. I can't recall his name but they were all amazing. I would definitely I back. Only thing that I would have to get used to is that the bathroom was right by the door

This hotel has become my home away from when traveling into San Diego for business. It's very stylish, but if you're traveling w/more than one person, you may want to get larger room. They tend to run very "cozy". Regardless, I stay there over and over.

Great hotel near Gas Lamp, Little Italy and the bay.

I loved this hotel. Although our room was tiny, it was perfect for our quick stay. The room was BEYOND immaculate a super cozy. My only complaint is that there was no view from our room...so for those who want a view, you won't get that here. But what you will get is great service, a safe and CLEAN hotel, and awesome amenities!! When I return to San Diego, I will definitely choose The Sofia Hotel.

Very nice hotel. That you do not have breakfast included for 150 bucks a night is normal for the US, I guess. Only issues: The television set was a small oldschool tube tv. Did not see any of those things in years. But then: Normal for the US as well, I guess ;-) And the ventilation was kind of loud during the night. But the location is perfect, the staff is nice, the rooms are clean. I can recommend the hotel, indeed.

I stayed until 10 days from March 6. There is also the Amtrak station and shopping malls and supermarkets nearby, I was able to spend within the comfort of your living. Security was also good that night. People of the hotel receptionist was very kind.

We loved the Sofia -- great location, a little bit funky, very good service. The rooms are small, but we were perfectly comfortable and saved a lot of money over other hotels. The convention center is only 6-7 blocks away and was a very reasonable walk through a safe neighborhood. Lots of restaurants of all kinds are nearby. The suite with one queen bed in a separate bedroom and a fold-out queen couch in the small sitting area would be perfect for a couple with two small children or one older child.

The Sofia is a hotel with character, is connected to Currant restaurant (delicious but a little pricey), and has overall a good location for the Convention Center, exploring the gaslamp area, and downtown/waterfront. We were there during a conference when the city was completely booked. When we checked into our room, I noticed we were missing a trash can and then noticed a note someone had left on the bathroom door. It warned that a wineglass had been broken and to not step on the floor due to glass. This was strange since it seems like the cleaning crew would have addressed this issue and removed the note. Anyway, I told the front desk about it and asked that the remaining glass (there were still little pieces) be cleaned up. The front desk totally ignored this request - there was still glass on the floor hours later when we returned to the room, but by then it was late enough that we just put towls on the floor and went to sleep. Other than that, the stay was great, but that was a pretty significant problem so it certainly impacts my overall opinion of the hotel. I do not know if I would stay again or not, which is too bas as the hotel is quite cute otherwise.

I would highly recommend Sofia hotel to any one who is looking for pleasant stay for decent money. The Sofia hotels is really nice and centrally located hotel. Decent price and great service. The building in which Sofia hotel is located is excellent piece of architecture, which makes it even nice to stay there. Location si perfect, short distance to nice cafes and bars. Perfect!

I just used my reward points to book this hotel for my fiance's birthday night. It was very nice, clean and very old fashioned. However, everything inside was very modern. I wish I could have stayed another night.

Needed to book a room for a night at the last minute due to a change of plans with my lodging. I booked at an extremely great price. Called in to see what time check-in was and was told that if they had enough rooms available, they would let me check in early. I was able to check in at 10AM, which was definitely a plus for me. The hotel was very cozy with only 6 floors and a few rooms on each. The room was small, but perfect for me by myself. The front desk representatives were extremely kind and helpful. Even after I checked out, they offered to hold my bags as went outside the hotel to grab some breakfast. The location was great: there was a shopping mall, an assortment of shops and bars, and restaurants surrounding the hotel, all within walking distance. The ONLY reason why I did not give this particular stay a perfect score is because of the loud construction happening behind the hotel that went on from the early morning until the late afternoon. It was loud enough to be bothersome in my waking hours and throughout the day. Other than, it was great stay! Will definitely recommend this hotel to others!

hotel service was courteous and helpful. The walk to the convention center was definitely longer than 4 - 6 blocks...depending where in the center your convention is being held it could be 30 - 30 min walk.

My girlfriend was impressed, she loved it. Now, me, Ive been to a thousand sheik modern hotels, and this one is pretty comparable. Good room, good view, good service, clean rooms, good service etc. My only gripe is that I paid a little too much in light of being charged an extra $9 service fee (that they charge everyone). I hate those fees, which is why I stopped being a dedicated W hotel user. They just keep charging (internet $40!)

The location was reasonably equidistant to the locations in which we wanted to spend some time and explore the condominium choices for a possible second home. I was handy to a number of options and has a nice restarant/lounge option we utilized ocasionally.

Had to leave after two nights due to construction noise. They are building an evevated parking lot next door with a lot of jack hammering vibration nd related noise.

We (my girlfriend and I) had a wonderful room at the Sofia hotel! Service was amazing with the exception of the mandatory vallet parking . There is no way around it, especially in downtown s.d. There was some construction going on but The clerk dropped some of the service charges due to the inconvenience of the noise!! Good man this Brian fellow

All in all the hotel was quite good, except the "free internet" rip off. The staff explained that the fee was made, because the owner wanted to advertise his hotel in a certain price range, basically a hotel search engine scam. This apparently in full agreement with the booking sites.

We loved this hotel. Clean, friendly and historical. Easy on and off from freeway, a big plus! Easy walk to Horton plaza and Gas Lamp District. Rooms are very small but classy and clean.

The Sofia is a good boutique hotel, but it has some problems. First, they were tearing out a building attached to the back of the hotel and had jackhammers and heavy equipment going from 7am. Annoying!!! The wireless was less than strong, making it iffy in the room at times. The TV reception on local over the air chanels was very bad with lines and interference. We have noticed this on previous visits and have asked about it and they say it is just that way and they can't do anything about it. Not a good answer. The maid did not replenish our toiletries one day and left only regular coffee (though we had used only the decaf. They charge a $7.50 a day charge for the water bottle in the room, coffee, wireless, etc. The charge is manditory and not included in the Hotels.com charge for the room.

Enjoyed our stay their, this hotel is close to everything you can walk to where you need to go. Staff was great, rooms were small but nice and clean. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. The only down turn is the parking it's only valet so you can't just get in your car and go, but don't let that stop you they get your car right away.

Really enjoyed our stay! This is a cozy hotel with extremely friendly staff and service! Right near the Gaslamp district and tons of great dining and bars. Can't wait to stay there again!
