Courteous staff. Older facility. Not up to date w/amenities or conveniences. Had difficulty with heat in room. Space heat inadequate, and questionable safety. Great view from room. Precarious location, but safety aside, has withstood many years without mechanical failure. Must see to appreciate evaluation. Located on mountainside.Few facilities in area.Can't compare other than view!

Not an easy place to get a good nights sleep. Our room was literally on the street and big rigs travel 395 all night long. Get a reservation in one of the quieter rooms in back. Rooms 1-4 are just too noisy.

Rooms on the back look out into tranquil vast stillness. Very nice inkeeper. Be sure to try the restaurant at the junction of 120/395--our whole family thoroughly enjoyed it.

It is a bit old but it is in a good location and good view to Mono lake. Friendly staff. I like it.

Great location overlooking Mon Lake but no fridge or hairdryer in the room. Disappointing.

All though the lady at the desk was very nice and helped out with some dates, I was very disappointed with the location of the room and the fact there was no air conditioner in our room With only one door and no window there was no way to get cool night air in the room. Stiffing hot as the temp that day exceeded 90 deg. If you book a room, be sure to ask about the a/c. They do have some room with a/c but most do not. Also, for the money this was a very poor value. Too much cost for too little room and no comfort.

The view is pathetic and there is a lot of parthenium next to the lake which makes it a nightmare of asthma patients.the distance from Yosemite is atleast 2 hours to get to half dome.Stay away unless u plan to just visit Mono lake.

Pleasantly surprised. Motel has obviously been there a long time. Sometime when you stay in a hotel in a "wide spot" and an older structure you have "quaint" furnishings. The bathroom appeared to be brand new. A really good big screen TV with satellite service. Back porch with great view of Lake and down in the valley below a babbling stream that lulled you to sleep. Sitting on the back porch with a good red wine - It was just pretty nice.

The location is convenient to Yosemite National Park. The hotel is old - but was clean.

The motel looks small outside but actually have many rooms inside. When we request 10 rooms for our group they guarantee have rooms for us. That makes us very happy because we don't need to divide our group to 2 small groups in different hotel. The rooms are very comfortable and neatly. The view of Mono Lake is right on back yard. All of us are happy to stay here and will be back next time.

The Yosemite Gateway seems a bit overpriced for what it offers. The room was pretty basic -- even old-fashioned -- with slightly warped outside stairs to access the room and a large metal heating grate within the bedroom floor. But the bedroom and bathroom were both very clean, and the bed had a thick new mattress. Wireless was free (though the connection was slow). Our room was advertised as having a lake view, but trees seriously interfered with our vista. As other reviewers have noted, the main thing going for this motel is its location -- right near the entrance to Tioga Pass, and close to the spectacular scenery of Mono Lake. Those were big advantages for us, and the receptionist was super friendly.

The only good thing about this hotel is its location as a close one-night stopover point just east of Yosemite. Having "old school" metal room keys was quaint, but having only two-prong electrical outlets making it impossible to plug in electronic equipment (like laptops) with a ground plug, was a little too 1950ish. When the advertised free wi-fi resulted in a message that the user was not authorized to access the network, the question to the hotel manager on duty resulted in a "it's working for me; sorry" reply. So don't plan on staying connected to the outside world if you stay here. For this product/service, the nightly rate was an exhorbitant price to pay. In retrospect, we should have kept driving the extra two hours to South Lake Tahoe.

Stayed here for one night in August, the most expensive hotel on our 4week tour. Even for a quarter of the price payed it wouldn't have been good enough. I'm not the person writing a lot of reviews, but this has been the worst hotel I've ever stayed in the States and I want to warn people not to chose this motel. The postive : The shower is nice and new and there is free wifi. That's about it. The negative : 1. No air-conditioning and it gets very hot in summer. The lady told us we wouldn't need it, just open the window but even after two hours of opened windows (including the window next to the main road with people lurking in our room) it didn't get any cooler, temperature during night was unbearable. 2. The door to the room is right next to the main street where trucks pass all night long. Walls are thin. 3. Tiny, dark and dusty room, extremely old fashioned and used furniture, bad smell. 4. Bad matress and pillows 5. No fridge, no microwave, no hair dryer, even no paper and pen ! 6. The view of Mono Lake isn't great at all, it lies in the distance and you only get a glimpse of it, you have a balcony but must share it with all your neighbours! We were awake most of the night, due to the noise, the temperature, the smell and an overall bad feeling. Choose any other motel in Lee Vining, it couln't get worse but stay away from this motel. I would even recommend skipping Lee Vining, the town is nothing special and eventually choosing an motel/hotel in the park or on the west side of the park.

Lee Vining is close to the east gate of Yosemite, and overlooks Mono Lake. Wonderful location, and easy drives to Mammoth or Tahoe too. That said, this small town enjoys a captive tourist market and the price of gas, food and hotel beds is OUTRAGEOUS. The Yosemite Gateway motel is no exception, but has top views, very clean and perfectly adequate rooms & facilities. Just understand you will pay dearly for the privilege of the spectacular location!!!

We stayed for only one night. Check in was fast, nice staff. We've stayed in room number 1. The room was big enough, had a little bathroom, a desk with a coffemaker, there was no air condition but a electrian air maker (Ventilator). We didn't use it during the whole night because we were afraid that it could overheat. Therefore it was a bit too warm. Free Wireless connection was good, there was a door to the balcony with 2 chairs in front with a wonderful view on mono lake. But you have to share it with your neighbours if you have some. The whole Motel is a bit old fashioned. You see that they've tried to renovate it but it's not painted very nice (balcony), there was an old water "accident" at the ceiling in the room, bathroom is quite new. I've slept not so well, trucks are driving the whole night, motel is directly beside the street. You need good airplugs, walls are thin. Price and Quality isn't in a good relation. One good thing is the restaurant oposite the street (we had a very nice diner outside with a view on the lake), you can only jump across the street, breakfast is not included, you get it in another restaurant nearby. Free parking included. We would choose another motel for another time. We only took it because all of the others were with no vacancy or had bad ratings. Lee Vining is one of the nearest stopps if you want to visit the yosemite nationalpark.

Clean comfortable and simple rooms but a bit pricey. The view of Mono Lake was amazing! We enjoyed the "creature comforts" of the room and restaurants after days of camping in Yosemite. A wonderful meal and short drive with an amazing view of the lake is the Mono Lake Lodge- About 2 miles away- Great food and wine!

I thought it was a tad pricey, considering Lee Vining is pretty much in the middle of nowhere, but being close to Yosemite makes it worthwhile. Not particularly fancy, but clean and comfortable.

the motel is convenient but pricey. There probably are not too many in town and too much demands due to high volume of tourist in the summer. The room is little small, but ok. The beds are clean and conformtable.

Our stay at the Yosemite Gateway Motel was special due to its great location and unassuming character. The view from our room of Mammoth Lake was restful especially as the sun set. A very good choice for an overnight stay before setting off over the Tioga Pass into Yosemite. A very special part of our trip. Would definitely return to this motel and to Lee Vining.

This was an idealy placed hotel for visiting Yosemite National Park from Highway 395. Without its location I would regard it as vastly overpriced. The hotel is clean but the whole place has an air of refurbishment being somewhat overdue. The views of Mono Lake from the rooms in the rear was impressive and I was left with the thought that this could be a good hotel if someone was prepared to spend money on it.

Very basic clean room that had lovely views. The room had not been refurbished in many years and the tv didn't work (it couldn't get the satellite connection). Fine for a one night stay on your way through. The restaurants across the road offered great food for dinner and breakfast.

Location can't be beat -- almost all rooms have beautiful views of Mono Lake Basin. Prices are, however, significantly higher than competing facilities in the same block.

old,noisy creaky, smelly, no air conditioning, no view of the lake. the building was so old I was afraid it was gonna slide down the hill any second. I would never stay there again. the room was so small, you had to get on the bed to let someone pass. I was so thankful we were only there one night.

Clean room with a nice, hot shower. Fast WiFi. Friendly, comfortable atomosphere. Close to good restaurants (just across the street). Very proximity to Mono Lake and the Tioga Pass entrance to Yosemite National Park.

Nice and cozy hotel. Satisfied with the place and service. Lee Vining is an ideal spot if you do not find anything inside yosemite. You also drive through beautiful landscape getting to the traditional attraction sites like Yosemite falls, Bridal Veil falls etc (about 1-1.5 hrs from Lee Vining). If you have an evening to spend in Lee Vining, the nearby Mono Lake trip is a good unwinding experience. We also enjoyed breakfast and dinner at the Nicely restaurant right across the hotel.

There are not too many options near Yosemity NP, so you are forced to stay in/near Lee Vining. This motel knows it too and therefore does it have high prices, too high for what we were offered. Hotelmanager was to the point no additional explanation. Motelroom is midsize, although not clean: found hairs in the bed and bathroom is old and is lacking maintenance and is directly adjacent to a thru street (main street) with lost of trucks and other traffic. We left early not to consider staying again here.

We stay here only one night, before go to Yosemite. The location is perfect, Lee Vining is very cute, and also near to the amazing ghost town Bodie....but this doesn't justify the too high price for the service and the quality of the room. Small, old and without breakfast. It's good for whom doesn't care too much confort.

Avons passé 1 nuit dans ce motel situé à Lee Vining, village situé loin de tout et où tout est cher : essence, superette et hôtel... Valable pour une étape, pas grand chose à voir à proximité, à part le mono lake. Accueil sympa

Gute Lage, Kein Frühstück, sehr teuer, Matratzen sind in Plastik eingepackt, an erholsamen Schlaf also nicht zu denken. Es sind noch ca 3 andere Motels in Lee Vining. Wer Zeit hat sollte nach Bishop weiterfahren !

Prix excessif par rapport aux prestations ! Seul le cadre magnifique , qu'offre Lee Vining pourrait l'expliquer. Les draps était troués, chambre vieillotte, pas de petit déj. On n'a eu qu'un petit bout de vue sur le Lac Mono ! Heureusement, il y a un aménagement agréable à l'extérieur des chambres, qui permet d'en profiter agréablement. Restaurants et supérette juste en face. Non loin de l'entrée Est de Yosemite (Tioga pass). Route magnifique.

Det eneste positive der er at sige om dette hotel er at der er en god udsigt og over på den anden side af gaden lå en fantastisk cowboy restaurant med de bedste og billigste barbecue burger vi fik smagt på turen rundt i CA og Nevada. Hotellet nyder godt af der ikke er så mange muligheder for overnatning i dette område. Det er alt alt for dyrt i forhold til standarden.

Que des points positifs pour cet hôtel très sympathique : bon accueil (conseils sur les environs), propreté de la chambre, plutôt calme (malgré l'arrivée tardive de certains voyageurs des chambres à côté). Le wi-fi fonctionne très bien. Pas de petit déjeuner mais un magasin pour faire les courses juste de l'autre côté de la route. Jolie vue sur Mono Lake (impeccable pour les photos de lever du soleil).

Hotel situe près de Mono lake et de la Tioga Pass permettant d'accéder à Yosemite. Prestations correctes mais sans plus et pas de petit-déjeuner. Rapport qualité / Prix décevant.

schöne Lage beim Monolake; typisches älteres Motel mit Charme, jedoch viel zu teuer.

accueil froid, chambre sans frigo ni micro-ondes. Une supérette en face. Mauvais rapport qualité-prix !

Ligger godt som begyndelse eller afslutningen på en tur i Yosemite. Der var plastik på madrasserne under lagnerne, hvilket gjorde det lidt ubehageligt og svært at komme af med varmen.

Zimmer und Hotelanlage sind sehr klein aber erfüllen den Zweck, enn man lediglich auf der Durchreise ist. Personal ist an der Grenze zur Unfreundlichkeit.

Motel correct mais tarif un peu élevé sans les petits déjeuners compris. Trés belle vue sur le lac et situé dans un petit village tranquille proche d'un café restaurant.
