Best Western Premier Hotel Katajanokka - هلسنكي

Stayed at the hotel 4 days with my wife and 3 years old son and had a really nice time there! The hotel is located very central and in nice surroundings. The staff is very much serviceminded. The restaurant at the hotel was really good and with fair prices. All in all we felt like the staff did everything for us to have a really nice and relaxed vacation.

We enjoyed our one night stay at this hotel - it is a short tram ride away from the railway station. The room was nicely decorated - I really loved the heated tiles in the bathroom! Breakfast was a good selection, don't forget to visit the jail cell located at the end of the jailbreak restaurant!

the hotel has a really nice theme, tram 4 is easy for city centre, great breakfast. it's a bit cold since it's a old building tho. and cleaning persons didn't do their jobs in some days... Overall a nice place to stay.

The Best Western Katajanokka was a great hotel and a very cool concept being transformed from a jail. The breakfast and surrounding location was great as well and a very short tram ride to anything else you want to see. Would highly recommend a stay here if you are in the Helsinki area.

Yes it was a jail and therefore is kind of unique. Reasonable rates and efficient staff. Breakfast is very good. Nice little gym. Trolley line right outside the door in case you don't rent a car - get the daily or multiple day pass if you are going to use it more than once. Only negatives are that the rooms are on the smaller side (it was a jail cell after all) and the in-house restaurant was little pricey. Overall I would definitely recommend this as a fine place to stay!

Everything was great but there is one thing i couldn't get along with. I could hear a sound for the whole time and i assume it's the alarm of the hotel. it's a very light one, but continuously intermittent...at first i thought i had a problem to my ears, but then i slowly realized that it was everywhere in the hotel. Strange, but i was very happy to go out in the morning and leave this sound behind me. A part of this we had a good rate, clean rooms and very nice crews.

An extraordinary ensemble on a peninsula in a quiet environment - yes, this should be sufficient for the description of an ideal caribbean holiday resort. However, forget about the Caribbean Sea - I am talking about a very good hotel location in the Baltic Sea. Or to be more detailed, the place is Helsinki, the peninsula is Katajanokka, and the resort is a former prison built in 1837. It is located within walking distance to the city centre, downtown harbour basins, and several ferry terminals. There is tramway line 4 in front, and a very good beer pub "Poseidoon" is not far away down the road. The hotel is to be recommended without any restriction, to say the least, so are also its restaurant and bar. There is free WLAN and LAN available.

I have nothing bad to say about this Hotel, everything was just fine. Breakfast was very good. Near to the see and near the city of Helsinki. We were there in February and it was a lot of snow and it was great but i can imagine this place is really nice in summer. It was a experience to live in a old prison :)

This hotel is converted from an old prison which gives it some character. Good location, good breakfast, quiet comfortable rooms. Would book again.

Very comfortable, close to city center, short trip on the tram or a 10-15 min walk. Calm environment. Good breakfast. Former jail which gave it a special athmosphere.

This former prison has been cleverly converted into a nice hotel, in a quiet part of Helsinki. It is easy to get to, right next to the number 4 tram stop. The reception was welcoming and friendly. The rooms are of a good size and the shower is excellent. The Jailbird Restaurant in the basement is also really nice. Dinner and breakfast was really good. We only stayed for one night, but would have liked to stay longer.

How often are you in a hotel that really sets itself apart by being something very... spectacularly different! Katajanokka hotel is unique; you are in an old jail that used to be in that use still few years ago. Everything looks and feels like a 1900 Century jail; the aisles, the doors, the cellar, you name it. And then you enter your cell (room) and it is very modern, stylish and comfortable. Wow! The personnell was very friendly and professional, as well. Highly recommend both for tourists and business people. Beautiful surroundings behind the Jail walls as well very close to the Center of Helsinki.

Stayed for two nights in October, 2011. Hotel is in the old town, great location and looks amazing from the outside. Only down side was the very small double room we had and the bathroom being basically a shower, WC and tiny sink in the same wet room. The beds were very small too. The room was clean but it is very, very basic. Its a budget hotel and you get what you pay for.

Everything was great except that out room was not in the 'jail' area - it was was more ordinary tan I expected. Be sure to ask for a jail room if that is important for you.

Breakfast buffet was incredible.

Very nice property, comfortable, great bathroom. Interesting concept - converted prison. Restaurant and bar were good. Breakfast excellent. Good location, easy to catch tram just in front, very close to walk to central downtown. Only downside - not many restaurants in immediate neighborhood. Highly recommend this property.

Nice job of converting a prison into a hotel...standard room was equivalent of two cells with nicely done bAthroom facilities added. Jailhouse restaurant was very good. We usually search outside the hotel for a restaurant but reviews were good so we tried it and were not at all disappointed. breakfast had lots of choices including a chef waiting to make your egg order if you so chose. Would highly recommend it, especially if you are arriving by ferry as you can easily walk to hotel. Even train station was only about 25 minute walk.

One of the best boutique hotel i have stayed in. Cant believe its Best Western. I am not a fan of BW chain. Its modern, comfy, friendly & way above my expectation. Not much of a Jail feel since its been completely remodeled but no disapptment at all. Not much atmosphere at the bar but convenient location.. tram stop right infront of the hotel. Will definitely stay again. Perhaps this hotel will get more business by disassociating itself from Best Western.

The fact that this was a prison until 2003 was the attraction for me. The room had free internet and the hotel provided a very long ethernet cord so you could use your lap top anywhere in the room. The bathroom was large. You also had an in room safe to use at no charge. The free hot breakfast was great. I didn't find any eating places close by, but there is a tram stop right in front of the hotel that could take you anywhere. The staff was helpful in directions and use of the tram and what to see.

I can't say enough about how helpful and cheerful the staff was during our stay. The hotel was often very busy yet the staff maintained their cool as they helped visitor after visitor with problems, inquiries, restaurant recommendations, etc. We had several situations that they were particularly helpful with, and always asked the next day how things had gone. The room was comfortable, quiet, and very clean. The breakfast was an ample buffet. I highly recommend this lovely hotel.

The hotel was very good and only about 3 years old. It is a converted county jail that they use to thier advantage keeping the halls and stairs in prison style. Some doorways have bars on both sides for image. They have the jailhouse newletter, the Jailbreak bar and resturant, and the Jailyard terrace. The rooms are bright and new with modern lighting and a nice wall to wall shower. They have a desk with free internet cable hookup. They are located 3 blocks and 10 minutes from the Viking line ferry to Tallin and Stockholm I think. The number 4 tram line will get you to the center of the city in about 5 minutes. Very comfortable beds and good blackout curtains. I enjoyed my stay.

A truly wonderful hotel; unusual but great setting, large rooms and bathrooms, relaxed but still efficient service, easy enough distance from centre of city. Great value for a 4 star hotel.

It was fun to be in hotel that was previously a prison. Teh hotel is well renovated / refurnished. It was very clean an dcomfortable. We were super happy with the first room (310), but a little disappointed with the second one as the second bathroom was much smaller and the door kept getting stucked (313). So it really depends on what room you get. That said, they were both impeccably clean and comfortable. Rooms were also of reasonable size. Breakfast has a good selection. Great value for money and will stay here again if in Helsinki.

Great hotel.....not only a former jail with lots of history and character but outstanding rooms, great staff and good breakfast. Very handy for No4 tram which stops right outside the hotel and saves blowing all your Euros on taxis!...Not much to do around the hotel but great value for money.

WOW... This was something different Allegedly Somone spent Euro 40,000,000 converting the old city prison into this great hotel. Comfortable, clean, good value and excellent cuisine. A tram stop right ouside the door (sorry.... the prison walls !) and quick access into the centre of Helsinki. The hotel has evrything needed for a restful stay amd the JAILBIRD Restaurant and bar serves very good local food. I was attending a 5 day conference nearby and managed to lure 16 people over to eat at the JAILBIRD from the nearby Scandic - they loved the atmosphere and had a great night. Some even took a look at the preserved cells in the basement. An unusual gem of a hotel......GREAT !!

Had a good stay in the prison! Clean comfortable and quiet. Great breakfast in the bowels of the jail. Easy walk to ferry and town and had a good walk around the neighborhood. Would stay here again.

The old prison that is now the Hotel Katajanokka is an excellent choice for Helsinki. Set amid the art nouveau district of Katajanokka a short walk from the city centre, and an even shorter one to the ferry for Tallinn, the hotel is a delight. The rooms are actually 2 cells or more that have been knocked into one, refurbished and well equipped. The hotel keep the prison theme running throughout all the ameneties (Jailbird restaurant for example) and even give you tin plates and cups to eat from (if you want). The food in the restaurant was excellent if a little pricey, even by Helsinkis standards and the staff were friendly. I would stay there again if I returned to Helsinki.

Great location, the best breakfast buffet we ever had in Europe. Clean comfortable rooms.

We stayed at this hotel on our July 2009 trip through Scandinavia. I selected this hotel due to some of the reviews and the "cool" factor of staying in an old prison. Positives: The hotel was very clean, staff was very friendly, and was pretty "cool" as you were in an old prison complete with walls on the outside. The room had wireless Internet, and a great flat screen TV with quite a few channels. There is also a tram stop right outside the front door basically, so that is convenient if taking public transport. Negatives: Like an old prison, the room was pretty tiny and the breakfast while pretty good seemed to be empty of food even within 30 minutes of ending. It seemed they stopped stocking food the last hour, and with a 6 month old baby we seemed to always be getting there right before closing time. That all being said, this is a pretty "cool" hotel for a chain as long as you don't want a huge room...but than again what else did you expect booking in an old prison?

We stayed for 3 nights with a 22 month-old and it was really super. The room was a good size and the beds were very comfortable. The buffet breakfast was a good mix of food, both hot and cold, which you could eat at your own pace. It was a 10-minute walk to the main harbour or you could jump on a tram, a stop for which was just outside the hotel. As long as you don't want lots of other facilities, this hotel is ideal for visiting Helsinki.

After spending almost two weeks traveling in Eastern Europe, I was delighted the comfortable accommodations and the really comfortable mattress at this hotel. Being close to the ferry and local merchants was a plus.

Suklaamousse pääsi loppumaan, joten sitä ei päästy maistelemaan. Hiukan pinttyneet pinnat suihkussa. Ravintola ihanan romanttisen hämyinen. Suosittelisin... toki meillä meinas olla hotels.comin kautta varattuna hieman ongelmia, joten kannattaa tulostaa kuitit ja tiedot, pelkkä tekstiviesti varaus ei meidän kohdalla onnistunut, jouduin ongimaan omasta sähköpostista tiedot!

Rauhallinen tunnelma ja meluton huone kaikkina vuorokauden aikoina. Huoneen sisustus toteutettu hyvällä maulla. Riittävä ilmastointi. Palvelu esim.ravintolassa lämmintä ja sopivan tuttavallista.

Olimme vähän epätyytyväisiä kun löysimme hiuksia (tai jotain muuta) kylpyhuoneesta kylpyammeen ympäriltä. Kaikki muu oli errittäin hyvin.

Сдержано вниманительно-вежливое обслуживание. Чисто и довольно прикольно - бывшая тюрьма и антураж сохранен в приличных пределах. Неудобство - номер (235) был на первом этаже, балконная дверь для выхода во двор заблокирована, хотя причина ясна. По прибытию на ресипшион не смог получить информацию о бесплатных или дешевых парковках вблизи отеля. Пришлось за рулем покрутиться в районе - и нашел парковку бесплатную до 10 час стоянки.

Hotellet var en positiv upplevelse MEN varför har ni ingen information på svenska? Finland är officiellt finsk/svenskspråkigt! I receptionen fanns svensktalande endast vid 1 tillfälle. Toaletten borde ha dörr som kan stängas helt.
