Hotel Arqueologo - كاسكو

My wife and visited Cusco for the first time and we wanted a hotel which offered some modern conveniences but kept the local flavor of Peru. Hotel Arqueologo delivered just that. Once inside the secured walls and doors, we were greeted by a friendly staff and offered a welcome drink cocoa tea. The courtyard was charming and colorful with baskets of flowers hanging from the balconies. Our room was spacious and clean with a window that opened giving us a nice long-range view of the city and mountains. Free breakfast was served in a quaint little room with old world charm. Our eggs were made to order. Fruit, fresh yogurt, and breads were also available. It was quite enjoyable. The hotel is located a few blocks from the Plaza de Arms, but if you don't mind a short walk up a fairly steep hill, the location is very convenient. The only two negatives to our stay was the extremely slow internet which we found to be common all over Peru - and our request for an airport pick-up went unanswered, so we got stuck with a huge taxi fare to get to the hotel. The driver of the "official" taxi company charged us almost 10 times what it should have been. When I complained to the hotel, they apologized and paid for our return taxi ride back to the airport when we checked out. So, I would stay there again without a doubt.

This hotel is a Gem. We travelled with our children (10, 9 and 6 years old) and we loved the hotel. The view from the breakfast room is beautiful, the restaurant Divina Comedia is very good, very nice ambiance, very nice music. They have life music jazz and bel canto some days. The location is unbeatable. This hotel is very close to Plaza de las Nazarenas were the best hotels in Cusco are located. I would definetely recommend this hotel for anyone who likes a boutique hotel with a character at a very good price.

Excellent staff who made sure we felt at home. Great room... very nice bar and solid breakfast. I would go there again in a heartbeat.

I enjoyed myself immensely. The staff was A+ and the hotel location was perfect. Would definitely stay here again.

What a beautiful hotel! We had a little issue with the airport transfer upon arrival (there was some miscommunication and they did not pick us up, so make sure to email your travel information and get a confirmation) but with a bit of explaining, the hotel made up for it and we were happy overall. The courtyard and overall layout of the hotel is just so pretty. Our loft room was interesting and really nice, and the breakfast was excellent as well. Everything was clean and well put together. There is a bar/tapas restaurant located there too that provided some entertainment for us also. Overall, we would definitely stay here again and had a great experience. It is towards the top of town, so if you can't walk uphill to get home from the main areas, then that may be a problem for some (but not for us).

Friendly staff! great location! room was two levels, clean! Free wifi works great! There is no phone or TV in the room, but Cusco has so much to offer if was fine! We felt safe and happy with our stay! Would surely stay here again!

My husband and I stayed at this hotel one night in oct 2012 in the superior suite and loved it! The loft style with the bedroom at the top, skylight, large shower and modern design was perfect. The hotel came with a breakfast buffet that was elaborate and included made to order eggs, various breads, fruit, yogurt, granola, tea, coffee, juice, etc. There was also a beautiful view from the breakfast area. Bar area I great and the welcome pisco sour drinks were wonderful. Good service as well! We travelled within South America for 18 days and this was he best hotel we stayed it.

Comfortable and well designed hotel in the heart of the historic district of Cusco. The complimentary Pisco Sours were a nice touch and the breakfast buffet was excellent. There were no TVs in the rooms which was surprising given the price.

The room was unique: 2 story with spiral case with a certain amount of charm. Functionally, lighting was substandard and switching was odd. Natural light was minimal. Not enough seating despite room. Bathroom smelled moldy---no exhaust fan, had to prop door open. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner were good value, good service and nice rooms. Courtyard looked good but not used/ functonal. No bottled water and courtyard filter system to fill water bottles was non-functional. Not bad stay but not great one.

This is the most charming 'hotel' that doesn't feel like a hotel - it feels like you're staying with some awesome, funky friend who has a lot of money. The courtyard is beautiful with flowers and potted plants, big chairs, fluffy pillows, cool art. Off the patio is outdoor seating for the restaurant which has the coolest expatriate French pianist a few days a week (classically trained but plays everything). The food and service are top-notch and breakfast is served in a quiet, quaint corner of the hotel that holds amazing views of Cuzco. Oh, the room was a dream: huge canopy bed, french doors overlooking Cuzco on one side and the courtyard on the other. Quiet location close to museums, MAP Cafe (awesome). It blew our socks off - we both give it a TEN!

Good location, 10 minute walk to plaza de armas but in quiet area. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Stored our luggage no problem during our inca trail hike. Very comfortable large beds. Hot showers.

It has the real feel of the tipical old Cuzco house. Breakfast is good, service perfect. Very well located. If you are looking for the real Cuzco expirience is the place to stay.

great hotel! it is very central; just 3 blocks from plaza de armas. the staff members are all very friendly and helpful. need a taxi to poroy station or the airport? check! you want coco tea? check! you want them to buy your machu picchu tix before you arrive? check! need recommendations on what to do or where to eat? check! they will help you with anything you need. the blankets are so crazy cozy that it was hard to get out of bed in the morning. my friend and i had a wonderful time here and had absolutely no complaints at all. if i come back to cuzco, i will definitely stay at hotel arqueologo again.

Staff is amazing. The entire property is , could not ask for a better experience. They booked our entire trip to machu picchu for us and just can not say enough good things about the staff and facility, you really feel like your at home and again. They take care of you. We had originally considered staying at the monistary a few doors down but, seemed extremely stuffy when I visited it, this hotel was perfectly comfortable. Also the restaurant and bar on site are awesome. In addition to te complementary breakfast you cannot beat it.

Just up the hill from the Plaza and the room was great. Would definitely recommend and stay here again. The complimentary Pisco Sour was a nice touch as well. The bar and lounge was really a treat to sit by the fire and relax.

Convient location close to the center, good service and nice amenities. Room lacked proper lighting and was cold.

A beautiful hotel right next to Plaza de Armas in Cusco! Walking distance to everything, and only a short distance from great sites. The staff is friendly, organized, and timely and the rooms are beautiful and extremely clean. Also, they gave us free storage when we hiked the Inka Trail for 4 days! Would absolutely stay there again and would recommend it to anyone visiting Cusco and the surrounding area!

An authentic cusco experience. I like that the room was two floors and the people at the Hotel were very nice.

The location is great, about 3 - 4 blocks UPHILL (Think High Altitude) from the Plaza De Armas. The full breakfast was very nice. The room was in 2 levels with a small room, couch, shelf, bathroom on the 1st. and the 2 beds on the second level. The 2 levels were connected by a spiral staircase which had no handrails and difficult to use. The shower design led to water on the bathroom floor whenever used. The lighting was very poor and it was difficult to read anywhere except the bathroom. There is no phone or TV.

A very pleasant hotel. Small and beautiful. Just down the street from one of the most expensive hotels in Cusco. Close to a fine museum, the square, and good restaurants. We required an early checkout to meet our trekking group and the staff took good care of us and the baggage we left while we were on the Inca Trail.

This hotel wants to evoke the theme of the old Cusco neighborhood in which it sits, and the floors of stone with the semi-open air lobby are really pretty cool. I can even go along with the theme that they did not want to re-wire the place to preserve the theme of the original building. I think anyone looking for a place that evokes the past, as suggested by the name, would find this place interesting, but here are some facts of which you need to be aware: In the room, there is no telephone, there is no radio, there in no television, and there is no internet. If this is a good thing for you, then you might like this place. The internet is free in the lobby, but it only works in one corner of the lobby, not in the restaurant and moving a few feet drops the connection. Breakfast - don't expect it to be ready at 6 as promised. This is, in part, cultural, I think, but usually at least the coffee is ready on time in other places I have stayed. Breakfast is really pretty lame when it is ready: butter, jam, bread, mystery cheese and a bit of fruit as well as some cereal. Let's call it a lean version of what you would find in a US budget hotel. While I was trying to sleep in a bit on a morning that I did not have to be up early, they were refinishing the wooden floors on my level - I'll leave that sound to you imagination. I know that remodelling is part of the business, but this was a bit absurd, and it demonstrates the general lack of attention to customer service. Actually, I am hoping that the management reads this, as the hotel could be pretty cool with better customer orientation. I really did not care about the lack of the phone and TV, and at least I was able to find the corner where the Internet worked, but the rest of the experience made me feel like my staying there was an imposition.

This hotel is but a 3 minute walk from the Plaza de Armas in Cusco. Great location for tourists who are looking for a clean hotel with free wifi and clean rooms. The hotel restaurant is quite good too with nightly performances.

This is a very nice hotel with colonial touches and a very nice patio in the middle. Staff is very friendly and always willing to help. A tiny convinience store (tiendita) is across the street for snacks and bottles of water. No more than 10 mins walking from Plaza de Armas. Not the cheapest hotel in town but I believe you actually get more in return that what you pay for. Great option!

Great staff, great breakfast (there's a full breakfast bar, and an omelette station), The rooms are large, some have an upstairs/downstairs,beds are very comfortable and the linens, towles, etc are all new..and the location is great.

O hotel tem uma localização perfeita, onde todos os pontos turísticos podem ser feitos á pé. É bem aconchegante e a equipe está sempre disposta a ajudar. O café damanha tem vários hrários,mesmo para aqueles que tem que acordar bem cedo para ir aos passeios.

Cuenta con todo buena ubicacion, ricos desayunos, colonial de buen gusto. 100% recomendable

Si quieres sentirte como en una casa de Cusco y que te atiendan como si fueras familia, sin TV, sin Tlf. Quedate Aqui. Todo es Colonial, rustico con mucho calor humano que le dan los empleados.

O Hotel é muito bom, o quarto é grande e limpo. O café da manha é muito bom e o Bar do hotel é imperdivel. O hotel fica bem perto das melhores atrações de Cusco. O unico ponto negativo é que o hotel não tem equipe de concierge e tivemos dificuldades em reservas de tours, etc

En positivo nos ha gustado de este hotel su exclusividad: entrada sólo a las personas que llaman a un timbre (seguridad, no accede cualquiera), un patio empedrado, un jardín, silencio en la noche, contraventanas y cortinas que facilitaban dormir sin luz exterior; el desayuno variado, la información turística (adecuada a las preferencias y necesidades de las clientes) y buen servicio de restaurante. Algunas posibilidades de mejora en la iluminación dentro de la habitación, así como incluir en cada habitación un teléfono.

Fantastico hotel! Atendimento excelente, boa estrutura!

El hotel está situado en un antiguo edificio colonial muy bonito y tiene muchas posibilidades. Lamentablemente, sus servicios son básicos, el desayuno, la mínima expresión y carece de muchas instalaciones frecuentes en cualquier hotel de tipo medio. Es cierto que el precio es bajo, por lo que es muy recomendabe ...para mochileros. Una pena, porque por sutuacion e instalaciones permitían un hotel de mejor rango. El personal, amabilísimo.

A calefaçao do quarto estava quebrada, nos reclamamos, mas não houve conserto, nem nos trocaram de quarto, o que comprometeu o conforto do quarto, pois, a noite fazia 0 grau.

Muy lindo hotel, la zona antigua es sin duda la mas impresionante. El desayuno fue de los menos buenos en todo mi viaje por el Peru. Sin duda podian mejorar en este sentido.

We, two couples, arrived at this hotel to stay three nights before doing the Inca Trail, and had booked 2 nights after. To allow ourselves some luxury, we upgraded the standard rooms to superior rooms for the 2 last nights. When we came back late in the evening after the Inca Trail, the rooms we were offered were to our dismay the exact same type as the ones we had had earlier. Our friends, however, were given a much smaller room! When asking the receptionists about this, the female receptionist explained that this was because we had had problems with cold showers with our prior stay...! None of the receptionists were very eager to fix the problem, but told us they could set us up with a new room the next day. Only when threatening to have our money back, were our friends put in a bigger room. This was apparently the Inca Suite, the nicest type of room they offer. Good. We also found at then that for our first 3 nights, we had - without being told - been given Superior Rooms instead of Standard Rooms. Our disappointment come from not being informed, as we were expecting better rooms for our last 2 nights. Basically, service at the hotel is lousy. Our stay could have been so much more positive if the staff was friendlier. We could not help feel we were in the way somehow, or had done something wrong. When complaining about cold showers, or a bathroom light that was constantly flashing or even about the mix-up of rooms, we were only met with a less-than-postive attitude. The night porter was more friendly, but seemed to lack the authority to get things fixed, and had to call his boss for confirmation. Too bad. Breakfast is good, though! But do yourself a favour and find a different hotel in this price range.

While the hotel itself is quite nice and situated close to the city centre, we were very disappointed to find that showers offered cold, or at best luke-warm, water. Even worse, when complaining, the receptionist came to our room, put her hand under the shower and confidently said the shower was warm. That's service for you! In the bar or restaurant, prepare to be patient. Even though none of them were ever busy when we where there, the bartenders, waiters etc. (there was no lack of personell) took forever to expedite our orders. Even a drink or a coffee would easily take 15 minutes or more to arrive after ordering. In the room, we had a large installation just outside our window. I'm not sure what it was, for heating or ventilation most likely, but it was making a lot of noise like from a big fan. Very annoying when trying to get some sleep! Overall we had several minor annoyances during our stay, but the biggest by far was the female receptionist's lack of service. The night porters were quite friendly and helpful; maybe if they were working dayshifts the cold shower problem could have been resolved easily. As it was, we were really quite put back by the lack of service and would recommend you look for a different hotel in the same price range when visiting Cusco.

Fue mi último día de estadía en Cuzco. Al otro día viajaba en micro hasta Puno, y no pude bañarme (no había agua), no pude desayunar (desayuno a partir de las 6hs), y no tenía ni siquiera agua mineral, ya que el conserje no tenía llaves del bar...
