Pleasant staff, terrific breakfast, good location, lovely neighbourhood, clean and efficient room. The only concern was how narrow the bathroom was and the lack of hot water at times. Nevertheless we would stay here again.

This is definitely not your regular big-chain hotel, but it is charming and friendly and in a great location. The Club is quite small and elegant, and comes with an interesting history and many interesting items of art and decor. The breakfast is ample and tasty, and the front desk staff is exceptionally friendly. Rooms in the back of the hotel are quiet and calm and offer a lovely view over the Firth of Forth. My only two complaints would be about the mattress - squishy and bad for my back - and the shower, which offered either cold water or no water during the pre-breakfast rush (it was fine at other times of the day). I would definitely stay here again.

This hotel has beautiful hallways and a really nice dining room, which still has the "no jeans" rule except for breakfasts. The room is big and the central heating system instead of air-conditioning made the room quite cozy and comfortable. The breakfast was quite good too and nice people at the reception. However, I was expecting a room with a nice garden view as described by the website, but was given a room in the basement, which has the stale smell I was not used to. Although it's got all modern amenities, the furniture is old, and a few applicances in the room had stains. Overall not too bad for the rate.

This is an excellent place to stay while in Edinburgh. The location is a five minute walk from the city center and 10 minutes from the castle and Royal Mile. Our room was always ready for us at the end of our day and the breakfast in the morning was always fresh and made to order. The front desk staff was extremely helpful and was a wealth of information regarding the city and its offerings. I highly recommend the Royal Scots.

A very traditional style hotel. comfortable. Well located and with friendly and helpful reception staff. No food was served in the hotel on Sunday evening, however it is so centrally located that this wasn't a problem. I didn't get a chance to sample breakfast as I was short of time in the mornings. I did pop into the breakfast room one morning to see if i could grab a bite to take with me but no one else was in there and although I could hear laughing and joking in the kitchen I didn't see any one in the breakfast room.

A fantastic place to stay. The hotel is great and has significant character to it.

The hotel was excellent, the staff were extremely courteous and helpful nothing was to difficult for them. The accommodation exceeded all expectations and the breakfast was excellent. The location was very good only approx 5 mins walk to Waverley Bridge where all the sight seeing buses started and where the airport bus started and terminated. Once again an excellent hotel and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

This turned out to be everything we hoped for and more - so good, friendly, unspoiled, reasonably priced, welcoming, well located, we rather wish we didn't have to tell everyone about it! But the food was superb; breakfast faultless, service polite and impeccable and cheery; dinner both delicious, refined and reasonable. We will certainly return. Our only wish would have been for the bedrooms to have been a little bit bigger, perhaps the seating more elegant, but the public rooms were warm and interesting and impressive. The lack of private Parking is a worry.

If you are looking for a luxurious hotel with lots of amenities, this is not the place for you. We, however, found that it had lots of character and enjoyed it thoroughly. Our room was named in honor of a specific Royal Scot, with brass nameplate on the door. Some parts of the building are off limits to visitors (who are not members of the Royal Scots Club) but this doesn't pose a problem. The club nature of the facility encouraged a bit more formality and constraint than a motel might do. There was a bit of noise; our room was directly under the reception area for the club itself and we could hear people walking and making arrangements over our head. The club was quiet enough generally that this did not pose a huge problem. The best part was the staff attitude. We left our camera at the hotel when we checked out. The hotel sent messages to all the phone numbers they had on hand, notified Expedia and sent an e-mail. Generally the reception desk and the dining room service could not have been better.

Excellent venue in a super convenient location only 5 minutes walk from Princes Street. Staff very friendly, service excellent, breakfast first rate.

As our friends across the pond might say, "it t'was a very civilized stay"! I actually felt honored to reside in a facility that over the years had offered accommodations to the Scotish men and women who had served their country so nobly. I enjoyed a morning newspaper sitting among the service memorabilia displayed throughout the dining room, sitting room, etc. The Royal Scots Club maintains a tradition that has primarily been lost in many societies. For example, they still require that gentlemen ware a coat and tie for the evening meal. (A small inventory of standard coats and ties are available for diners who "forgot".) The neighborhood is safe, quiet, and directly across the street from a secured park so you shouldn't be bothered by late night partiers. You're within walking distance to the Royal Mile, Waverly Station, restaurants, and shopping. Hotels.com rates made this an affordable and memorable experience for us on our first trip to Scotland.

A very nice little hotel on a grand scale. We very much enjoyed our stay at the royal scots club as dinner and breakfast were exceptional. The Hotel is very elegant with a library and bar with lounge area and fireplace. We enjoyed dressing up for cocktails and a relaxing dinner which were both served by excellent friendly staff. We would highly recommend this hotel to all visiting Edinburgh.

After so many nights in plain/spartan or modernistic hotel rooms, this was a rare treat. There's only 14 rooms in this club, and mine was gorgeously decorated. The bed was a little firmer than I normally like, but it was large and the pillows were substantial, which I absolutely prefer. My bathroom was completely modern and renovated, and I had tons of hot water. There was also a walk-in closet with far more hanging space than I had clothes. Although the room condition felt a little dated (who opens their door with a skeleton key anymore?) the club itself had a very charming character with items filing the walls which must have been placed there 60-80 years ago. The full Scottish breakfast was included and was surprisingly broader than I would have expected, and was delicious. I would stay here again in a heartbeat, as I have come to hate soul-less hotels that cater impersonally to hundreds of guests. Here, as one of 14 guests, I actually felt like someone who mattered. The location was good for me, close enough to walk to the main tourist areas, but enough away from the beaten path to give it a peaceful air. I was very happy with my choice to stay here.

Overall, our experience at the Royal Scots was good. The location was convenient- just a short walk to Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile. The desk staff were friendly and helpful, the room was cleaned daily, and located on a quiet business/ residential street. We ran into a few snags during our stay, but were able to work through them. We didn't notice that there was no parking for the hotel- we were able to park in front of the hotel 6:30pm-8:30am, which worked for us since we planned to spend most of our stay out and about visiting historic sites around Scotland. We paid to park in a garage the day we stayed in Edinburgh, which did cost us 20 GBP. I would recommend calling to ask about this before you book, though. The hotel was nice enough in general- the main staircase and ceiling were beautiful, the room was a little cramped but fairly par for a European hotel. Our main complaint was the internet connection- we could not get reception on our laptop in our room, so we had to take it down to the lobby.

Comfortable, well kept/clean and felt very welcoming. My room had a beautiful view over park in the gorgeous new town of edinburgh. Not far to walk to places, and this just adds to your experience. Little extras in the room like local bottled water and shortbread is a nice touch. Breakfast was superb. Beds a little older I think and therefore a bit soft. Overall a 10/10 experience!

The room provided was an amazing size with a comfortable bed, large en suite facility with outstanding products. There is no a/c or electric fan provided so you must rely on what little breeze there is. The weekend we were there it was 26 ...which is quite warm so pack appropriately for your pajamas. The hotel is a nice 20 minute walk (uphill) to the Edinburgh Castle and Royal Mile with great cafes and shopping along the way. If you are a business traveler or rely on wi-fi to stay in touch the connection is rather poor so do not plan on being overly productive. Also - there may be issues if you partake in the nightlife and arrive back around 2am. The night we were there we were woken up by a man banging on the front door to the hotel to be let in. Possibly the receptionist fell asleep?Either way - quite the disruptive event for those facing the street. Why is this an issue you ask? You must leave your room key when you leave the hotel.

Vi hadde et flott opphold på dette hotellet. Kan virkelig anbefales hvis du har lyst til å overnatte på et hotell som ikke er så stort. Slille og rolig, Voknet av fulesang om natten. Kort vei til busstopp, og mange severdigheter. Koselig betjening som kjente deg igjen. Reiser veldig gjerne tilbake hit.

En känsla av privat klubb i klassiskt Viktoriansk anda. Diskrett med bra service, tyst o vilosamt, underbara "allmänna utrymmen" med stil o känsla. Perfekt läge vid park, nära ett flertal prisvärda kvalitetsrestauranger. Ytterst prisvärt hotell som jag kan rekommendera alla!

Detta hotell var mycket trevligt. Vi fick ett rum med fönster mot en underbar privat park som vi senare besökte då vi fick låna nyckeln till grinden. Hotellet låg i ett bostadsområde, det tog kanske en kvart att gå till centrum. Hotellet hade också fina rum där man kunde sitta och pusta ut en liten stund. Rummet var rymligt och mysigt inrett. En del möbler var lite slitna men det egentligen påverkade vår vistelse. Personalen var mycket trevlig och hjälpsam. Vi kände oss verkligen välkomna. Det som inte var så bra var frukosten. Det var ingen höjdare, mest marmelader och sockrad yogurt I det stora hela så var detta ett hotell som jag absolut skulle bo på igen nästa gång jag besökte Edinburgh.

Litet och stillsamt hotell med vänlig och hjälpsam personal. Beläget i centrum bara ett par minuter från Princes Street och Wawerley Station. Rekommenderas.

10月17日から21日まで４泊、日本人女性１人の旅行で滞在しました。 場所も駅から歩いて10分ほどで行ける距離で便利だし、フロントのスタッフも親切・フレンドリー。とても居心地の良いホテルでした。 お風呂もバスタブ付きで広く、清潔です。 強いて言えば、ベッドカバーの汚れだけが少し気になりましたが、それだけです。 初日に部屋の暖房が入っていなかったようでとても寒く、朝まで我慢できずに、深夜の３時頃にフロントに訴えましたが、ヒーターを用意してもらえました。 全体的にアンティーク調の家具で纏められた部屋で、雰囲気も素敵です。 宿泊費からしたら、十分満足できるおススメホテルだと思います。

Lite koselig hotell. Vi trivdes veldig godt på dette hotellet. Kunne kanskje ligget et par kvartaler nærmere handlegaten Princess Street. Frokosten veldig bra. Hilsen besøkende i oktober-2011.

Hyvä ja siisti hotelli. Sopivasti kävelymatkan päässä keskustan ostos- ja ruokailumahdollisuudet. Lämpimät ja siistit huoneet. Vedenkeitin sekä kahvia / teetä oli omassa huoneessa ja siivous toimii, joka päivä oli huone siistitty ja uudet pyyhkeet :) Aamiaisella oli valinnanvaraa, mitä haluaa syödä! Voin suositella !

Reading threw the booklet found in the room describing the hotel, I was quite surprised that they thought so highly of themselves. They made it sound like a five-star hotel at the Riviera and you were constantly reminded that you're not a member. The location was good but that's about it at this price.

Ensimmäinen kerta Skotlannissa ja hotellin varaus ihan arpapeliä! Olimme kuitenkin erittäin tyytyväisiä rauhallisella alueella sijaitsevaan hotelliin,joka kuitenkin oli lyhyen kävelymatkan päässä kaikesta. Hotellissa hienot huoneet,teen ja kahvinkeitto mahdollisuus.Hyvä aamiainen. Erittäin ystävällistä ja avuliasta henkilökuntaa. Ainoastaan äänieristeet olivat huonot ja parisängyn patja, mutta se ei ollut tässä hienossa kokonaisuudessa pikku juttu .

Erittäin siisti ja viihtyisä hotelli. Huone oli ihanan tilava ja kylpyhuone myös. Pedissä oli hyvä nukkua, eikä ollut kylmä vaikka ikkunat ovatkin yksilasiset. Sijainti on loistava, vain muutaman minuutin kävelymatkan päässä keskustasta eikä silti liikenne häirinnyt. Huoneiden välissä oleva äänieristys kylläkin on heikko ja naapurista saattaa kuulla hyvinkin yksityiskohtaista keskustelua.

Ett hotell med stil och känsla. Gav verkligen en känsla av att man är i Skottland. Personalen vänlig och hjälpsam. Rent och snyggt. Rummet vi fick hade utsikt mot en park(trevligt) Promenaden från hotellet till tex The old town kan nog upplevas ansträngande med tanke på att det är uppför ganska mycket.
