Bamboo Garden Hotel - بكين

This is a local-feeling place. Clean, big rooms, lovely back courtyard. Not new by any means, but you can stay at the big Western hotels if you want that. The classic amenities are a throwback to the old China but kept fresh and clean here.

Classical Chinese courtyard hotel with an internal bamboo garden. Tranquil environment with traditional style rooms around the courtyard and modern rooms in hotel section. Deluxe suite: Booked standard suite but free upgrade. Deluxe suite (50m²) comfortably fitted 2 bunk beds which had good support. King bed was typical Asian comfort. Heating and bedding was fine. Chinese style furniture with ample storage space. No long bath. Shower ok: ample hot water but not powerful. Room had a big window opening onto a quiet street. In room electric kettle, safe, fridge (not very cold). Service: No complaints. Room tidied daily. Price: Moderate. Can accommodate 4 persons in 1 room. Food: Didn't eat at hotel. Many eating places nearby. 京城一锅 along Jiuguloudajie serves yummy lamb hotpot at dinner time (popular with locals) and v. cheap dumplings/wonton for breakfast. Convenience: <5 mins on foot to Line 2 Subway station. Direct bus to Forbidden City/Wangfujin, Temple of Heaven/Pearl Market. Nearby convenience store and McDonald's. Neighbourhood: Felt safe. 15 min stroll to Houhai and Qianhai (lovely day or night). Many lakeside restaurants. Kaorouji near Yindingqiao serves delicious lamb/beef hotplate and lamb kebabs. Nearby: Don't miss Yandaxie Str (pedestrian shopping str). Room Tip: Deluxe suites have traditional feel and plenty of room. Hotel rooms on upper floors overlooking the garden also nice but no lift. Overall: Good hotel, traditional ambience; perhaps not the best value.

Difficult to communicate with Hotel prior to arrival. Transportation from the airport to the hotel was not accommodated as advertised. Hotel staff unclear about services offered from the hotel. Transportation directly form the hotel very difficult. Hotel shuttle not available on weekends. Clean, comfortable room. Would suggest that you know the neighborhood and are willing to go out of your way for taxi's .

Really nice hotel in a traditional Courtyard arrangement. Have an authentic look and a nice garden. Rooms are small but nicely equipped, you even have PC in your room with the complimentary Internet access. Restaurant is on site, mostly Chinese cuisine. About 10 mins walk from the nearest subway station, taxis won’t enter the last 150m stretch of Hutong street but the arranged trip cars will. There is a small parking in the courtyard. If you are looking for a traditional look&feel and all modern comforts this hotel is for you.

We loved this courtyard hotel and were glad that we chose to stay there for 3 days. The Bamboo Garden Hotel is a sprawling complex with many low buildings (think chalet bungalows in sea side resort but tweak it into the chinese courtyard concept). The lobby block was closest to the entrance of the hotel which is nestled inside the Xiao Shi Qiao Hutong made of a long narrow road. We stayed at level two of the Ting song Lou (Listening Pines Block) which is further inside the hotel grounds, away from the alley and the car porch area where vehicles may idle while the tour vans or cars waited for the guests in the morning or evenings, past the restaurant facing the courtyard garden. There is free wifi in our room but it was rather weak. I could only get a strong signal if I sat at the window balcony area or near the room door/toilet area. We liked the quiet, relaxing and peaceful location of our rooms and the courtyard garden with the rock landscaping, mini bamboo forest and the lovely pine trees right outside our block. There is a pond (which is not so nice smelling) at the other side of the garden and I would not recommend at the blocks over that area near the pond unless the water is actually changed and flowing. Also, during our stay, they were constructing a massage room around that area of the garden. While they had the work done during daytime so it wasn't noisy at all during the evening and night, we could smell traces of paint solvent from the construction when we walked past the rock landscape in the morning. The hotel is around 10-15 minutes’ walk to the Gulou subway stn and Andingmen subway stn where the Nanluogu Alley is located is one stop away from the Gulou Station. Walking Directions 1: Turn right at the hotel exit, walk along the hutong alley till you hit the main road with an archway that reads Bamboo Garden in chinese. A beautiful leafy courtyard venue off a traditional hutong. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay from start to finish. The room was big and beautiful. Service attentive and staff considerate. (Language issues were jointly negotiated.) Food in the restaurant was very good, and functioned as a good base. (But do explore the rest of Beijing.) Internet service a plus, but sometimes inconsistent. The Great Wall trip the hotel arranged with an English-speaking Chinese guide was a highlight. Overall we felt it was a Chinese hotel in a classic courtyard setting modified to be comfortable to Western tastes. A good mixture of rest and comfort and being in a hutong -- the best of both worlds.

Our first impression of this hotel was not great: we arrived after dark on a day where air quality in Beijing was terrible. The hotel was hard to find, even with my Beijing-native husband communicating in Chinese with the driver. Then when we arrived the front desk clerk didn't even offer a word of welcome--in Chinese or English. But the place grew on us and we were glad we stayed there. The room was small, with a king sized bed. This was tight for 4 of us (2 adults, 2 young kids) but it worked. The heat did not adjust as well as we would have liked and it was much too hot and dry the first night, but then we realized the windows could be open to cool things off. The bathroom was modern and well-appointed. The hotel restaurant was fine: not great, not terrible. Daytime front desk staff speak good English and were quite helpful. The overall hotel complex, with courtyard and gardens, were very nice and probably would be more so in spring or summer. True, there's more cement than in a real courtyard house, but it's got a more traditional feel than a big chain hotel. Despite the initial difficulty finding the hotel (set back within a relatively modern hutong neighborhood), we came to appreciate its convenience. There's a conveneince store and a pharmacy at the entrance of the hutong on the left where you can get water, snacks, fruit and sundries at local prices. If you turn right at the entrance of the hutong, you walk down a main street with many other hutongs off to the side, as well as restaurants (Chinese, Vietnamese, other) and small shops within a 10 minute walk, and the old Drum Tower, and other sights within 15-20 minutes walk. This hotel is not for everyone, but if you are a bit adventurous and have good directions to the hotel, this can be an interesting place to stay.

While I wanted to try living out the old way, I am kinda disappointed when we arrived, I felt that they should have made a very nice Chinese garden. The garden was not spectacular or inviting. The restaurant was expensive and the food is not good. The people were not that friendly. It was difficult to find the hotel. I am glad we booked for one night only. But I like the feeling of living in an old neighborhood for one day only.

20年ほど前から利用し始めて今回で6回目です。四合院に泊まるのが夫婦で気に入っています。昨年と今年は1月の三連休を使っての北京訪問。昨年は部屋をグレードアップしてくれたので嬉しかったのですが、今年も昨年と同じ部屋に入れ感激しました。ホテルから鼓楼や北海公園に徒歩ですぐです。フートンをぶらぶら歩くのが好きなので立地も便利です。ただタクシーは前の道が狭くて入れないということで呼んでくれません。けれど地下鉄の駅が近く、また8号線の駅ももうすぐできるようです。北京を地下鉄で動き回るのにさらに便利になりそうです。

Hotel de bon confort et très propre. Personnel agréable et prêt à renseigner le client. Bon séjour, hôtel à recommander.

酒店在巷子裡,有點難找。但房間內外充滿中國特色,很多外國人入住。鄰近南鑼鼓巷及地鐵站,交通尚算便利。

Slightly higher priced hotel, but very popular due to the service level, good clean rooms and great atmosphere. The hotel is located near the drum tower and Beihai park. There is a charming porcelain shop next door to the hotel, selling good quality tea mugs, cups and pots at 10% of the rates of the highstreet shops or the airport. After buying several cups as presents, the owner delighted us by filling the cups with Chinese tea for free.

非常に良かった．古き良き中国といった感じの部屋．従業員が常に居て，安全性も高い．チェックアウトは飛行機の都合で5:20ごろであったが，きちんと対応してくれた．

Old villa in historic hutong. Recently modernized with perfect rooms. Rooms are not big, but everything is in its right place. Gulou Dajie and Nanluogu Xiang and Huhei lake are all within walking distance. Plus perfect for cycling around historic Beijing. I would definitely recommend this hotel to everybody, who loves to travel and dig into the local life of a big historic city. But if you prefer Gucci and Louis Vuitton, go for one of the big internationally (boring) hotel chains!

Das Hotel war nicht ausgebucht. In der Hotelanlage wurden Renovierungsarbeiten durchgeführt. Es wurde aber auf die Hotelgeste acht gegeben. Das Personal ist immer sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit gewesen.

まずタクシーの運転手にホテルの場所を説明するのが大変でした。有名かと思いきや名前を言ってもわかる運転手さんはいませんでした。中国語で説明するのがめんどくさくて！地下鉄は近いのでいいんですが。 到着した日からパソコンとエアコンと金庫の調子がわるく、出かけている間に治しとくよといったものの、パソコンは帰ってきてもまだおかしくて。 フロントに電話をすると今からいきますといって、その日はそのまま誰もきませんでした。 次の日昨日、今からいくといったのでは？といったメモを残しておきましたが、それにはまったく触れられず。パソコンはさすがに治ってましたが、なんだかなああああという気持ちになりました。
