My daughter and I stayed at Hotel des Artistes in March 2012 and had a wonderful experience. In addition to it's central location, comfortable rooms, Nicholas, at the front desk, was most helpful. I would stay there again!

Lovely hotel. Didn't bother with breakfast, but seemed no more than a light continental. Bought coffee and a croissant at a local bar...much cheaper. Only downside was our room. Adequate, but very small. Our advice is to go for classic rooms not standard. The classic rooms are much much bigger with chairs and cupboard space. These also look out over the Place du Celestine, whereas our room overlooked a side road...noisy at that, as it was used as a cut through. We will book classic next time. Near to lovely daily market on the banks of the Saone. Also, eat at La Tassee if budget allows. We had a very good meal there, and easily in walking distance from the hotel.

Loved it. Took my daughter on a mini break and found the hotel in a perfect location for dining, shopping and the metro. The staff was friendly and courteous. Free wi-fi was the best. Close to the bridge for the old town. Very good help in planning our excursions. Will stay there again in future.

All fine except no kettle in my room for making a simple but important cup of tea!

Superb location. But there are other hotels in the area that do things as well or better for slightly less money. And when one couple in our party had a problem with the plumbing in their room, the staff was a bit non-communicative. One significant problem is the wireless Internet. Although it does exist, it is very inconsistent and you need to repeatedly re-connect. This happened in three different rooms, on three different computers, so I think the problem is clearly with the Hotel's setup. Otherwise, a nice room...comfortable and decently appointed.

The hotel room was good - the staff was unwelcoming, actually quite rude on Friday night - we didn't get any details of the services the hotel offered and the front desk man couldn't have given us less of a welcome unless he had turned us away - maybe we were interrupting his reading. The wifi did not work at all, despite their promises to fix it. The hotel elevator didn't work for the second day of our stay - good exercise if you are trekking up and down to a room on the fourth floor, but again they promised to fix it. The location was good for us, across the river from Vieux Lyon, but we would NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL.

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel in Lyon. It was not old and worn down feeling like so many hotels in France can be, at this price point. The bedding was just right, the room was clean, and the bathroom was fresh and clean. The staff were constantly nice, friendly, cheerful. Such a nice contrast. I would gladly stay again.

This was a nice hotel! It's right near the downtown area, very reasonably priced, and the staff do a good job of keeping the place well kept and clean. The people that work there are nice and helpful too (and English speaking!). By US standards the rooms are small, but nothing you wouldn't see anywhere else in Europe.

Hotel Des Artistes is in the most convenient and charming position in Lyon. Adjoining the place des Celestines, on the quiet rue Gaspard Andre, this sparkling little 3 star hotel is 2 minutes from the river Saone and the main bridge leading across to Vieux Lyon. Hotel Des Artistes is only 5 minutes walk from the main shopping area and metro around the main square at Place Bellecour, and aproximately 7 minutes walk to either Rue des Marronniers or Rue Merciere - the two 'happening' streets which offer a selection of restaurants and cafe culture. The hotel sparkles. Reception was efficient, helpful and friendly. I was travelling alone and occupied a well decorated, pleasant, single room with good quietly running air-conditioning, and a spacious shower and toilet. My room lacked drawer space, and I would have preferred the option of a blanket rather than a duvet. However my bed was comfortable, and sheets and towels were changed regularly. The room was spotlessly clean. At 12 euros breakfast was expensive, but there was a choice of fresh fruit, cereals, eggs, cheeses, and ham - so anyone with a large appetite could eat their money's worth. I stayed 5 nights, and my daughter (who works in Paris) joined me for the weekend and she was equally impressed with the hotel. Special recommendation - for brilliant value, and wonderful French cooking, don't miss out on lunch at 'Seven' cafe round the corner from Des Artistes. As always - brilliant administration and good value from hotels.com. If ever I re-visit Lyon I would only stay at Hotel Des Artistes.

I enjoyed the hotel and would stay there again. The rooms are small, but the location is so wonderful that it didn't really matter. Very clean and well maintained. I loved the beautiful theater across the street where you can sit on benches and people watch. You are in walking distance to everything. Great hotel.

A very nice stay. An excellent location and friendly staff. My only complaint was the continental breakfast, which appeared to be complimentary, but was not (and it was very expensive...I did not find out until check out).

This is a great hotel!! I cannot recommend it enough. It is in a beautiful, classy area with the theatre at your doorstep. Nice authentic restaurants around and only a short walk to the city centre. Loved everything about this hotel!! Big rooms, clean.

great location and very clean comfortable rooms. Staff was nice. No room safes and no free wifi. The two nights we were there, the AC was not working.

This hotel is right down the street from the water! On the weekend there is a market that is absolutely outstanding. We actually shopped at the market for breakfast! There are many restaurants in the area and only a 10 minute walk from the train station which was our main source of travel. The hotel was comfortable, clean and neat; however, the rooms were small which for Europe was not a surprise to us. I would recommend staying here!

Location is great; staff was both friendly and helpful; the room was comfortable and clean; nice bathroom. Will stay here next time in Lyon.

This hotel is in an excellent location being near the Old Town and also near the shopping areas of the newer town. The room we had was immaculate although quite small. What was difficult was trying to find it using GPS while driving in on a rainy weekend day, with political demonstrations/parades and road construction as well as closed bridges and full parking lots. On the plus side, there is a fabulous restaurant just three doors or so up the same street.

Des Artistes is ideally located for visitors to Lyon. Within walking distance for many historic and cultural sites plus a short walk to Lyon's outstanding for access other destinations within Lyon. Lots of excellent restaurants and shops nearby. The hotel itself is fine and would recomend it to everyone. Only downside is their WiFi - be sure to book a room on a lower floor if you want to use their Wifi; the signal did not make it to the 5th floor so I had to use their breakfast room.

It was very clean. The rooms were very European same we were glad to not have had much luggage. Everyone was very nice.. I believe the gentleman at the front desk was Thomas he was wonderful, kind and helpful. It was on a very quiet street. We would go there again. Peggy

Check in was easy and the front desk recommended a decent restaurant for lunch. The location was also pretty convenient. It was only a short walk to many restaurants and Vieux Lyon. The room was a decent size and the shower was nice. My only complaint, but a big one, is about the security. I was not asked for ID upon check in and you leave your room key with the front desk when you leave. They never ask for your ID when you come back to ask for your key and the front desk attendants change frequently. How do they keep track of who is getting access to your room. In fact, my husband, who doesn't share a last name with me, showed up separately from me and they just gave him the key while I was out. He could have been a stranger!

The Hotel des Artistes was what I expected. It was a very neat clean small comfortable room with a great location. The staff was helpful and for the most part very friendly. It was recently renovated which made it quite nice. For the three nights that I was in Lyon in was perfect. It was also quite which was important for a business traveller.

Very nice hotel and reasonably priced. Convenient to the center of Lyon and within easy walking to shopping areas, religious and historic sites, as well as restaurants.

Hotel des Artistes is located right on Place Celestins which is a lovely square in a great neighborhood and within walking distance of all the major sights in Lyon. We parked our rental car in the Place Bellecour, left it there and walked everywhere (note parking fees are expensive at 24 euros/24 hrs set by city. The Hotel looks to be newly remodeled and is very appealing with artwork in hallways and rooms. Our room was small but very comfortable. Highly recommend this hotel!

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel. This time we got a smaller room which was very disappointing. Otherwise the hotel was very good in every respect..

We had a pleasent overnight stay at this hotel on route from St Tropez to Calais.The bedroom was very clean & the bed linen very good. The hotel was well positioned with lots to see close by with a street full of good quality local restaurants near by. Would recommend

Our stay at Hotel des Artistes was excellent. It is exceptionally well located and we could walk to most places. As well, a Metro station was nearby. Desk staff went above and beyond to help. When Air France lost our luggage (with clothes for our son's wedding inside) and were not responsive because it was a Sunday, staff (Nicholas) phoned Paris and stayed on hold until there was some resolution. On numerous other ocassions they were creative and helpful in making our stay go smoothly. Rooms were small but comfortable and we had a pretty view of the theatre across the street. I would happily recommend this hotel to everyone.

The hotel is located in a nice area, very convenient and close to the river and we walked everwhere, though metro was available. The room was clean and pretty much what you can expect for a 3 star. The only real issue was that the hotel didn't have a working ice machine and couldn't provide us with any. There was no place nearby to buy it. For us, it mattered, but maybe not for others. We were just staying 2 nights before heading to Nice.

The hotel is in a very central location of Lyon, close to the main sites, shopping and good restaurants. It is my third time visiting Lyon and I would stay at this hotel on any future visits.

For the price, they deliver everything you'd hope for. Sure the room is small (though typical for Europe), but for the reasonable price you will walk away very pleased. The hotel is clean and in good shape, and the bed was comfortable. Probably the best part is the location. It is perfect, right on the river and you can walk to everything, including the Bellecour metro stop that is nearby. If I ever travel back to Lyon, I will definitely stay here again. An excellent value, and a nice town.

The room was great, but tiny. It had a closet big enough for all of our hanging items and about 3' on each side of the bed. The location was fantastic (Presqu'île about 2 blocks north of Place Bellecour Metro and just across the river from Vieux Lyon). We'd stay here again without hesitation.

We stayed in this hotel during a relatively warm period in Lyon, and the air conditioning kept us cool... a big plus. The rooms are nice and service friendly, but the biggest plus is the location right on Place des Célestins, looking out at the beautiful theater. It is two blocks away from the heart of Lyon - Place Bellecour - with plenty of restaurants, cafes, and bars around it. It was a great stay for 4 nights.

Chambre et accueil de bon rapport qualité/prix.Mais salle de petit déjeuner trop petite tant pour le buffet que pour trouver une table disponible . Variété des viennoiseries un peu restreinte.

Un calme très appréciable. Un mobilier de l'espace patit-déjeuner à revoir !
