There was discrimination between the hispanic and white people. The bartenders don't know what they're doing. They did'nt even have mint for mojitos and they had it listed on their drink menu. And when you ask for a drink that's not listed on the menu and I know how to make it and I tell them exactly how to do it they won't do it because it's not listed on the menu. When your hispanic they treat you differently than the other tourist. The food was horrible. You don't even feel your in a hispanic country.

We loved our stay in this place. For the price, the place was wonderful!! Suggested to others and would return in the future. Only real downfall, the insistance on getting a VIP membership which is super expensive and we do not consider at all worthwhile.

The Blue Bay was a terrible experience. From more than 30 hotels we know in the Dominican Republic it was the worst one. Mostly we could'nt eat the Food. Drinks were made with very low quality spirits. Service was unfriendly. The staff needs capacitation. The sales people of the Vacation Club bothered all the time, on the beach lot of vendors.

Lovely retreat but staff must learn to move and work more quicker. Checking in took way too long. Apart from this I had a great stay.

Very average.....we knew we would not be in the best room as we booked an economy room for one night prior to moving into a rented home for the winter....but to be put directly behind the bandstand at thistledown raucous all inclusive was unexpected and something should have been discussed in advance....I understand power failures are usual in DR....but to have no water for several hours even though the power was on was inconvenient

This is my second trip to this particular hotel the only problem is that I had a hard time accessing the Internet. For the price they charge you for the room you would think that internet access was free or with a minimum charge. Instead I had to pay $25.00 for a 12 hour window, and I had an emergency and needed immediate access and was denied because there was only 1 person on duty who could provide the access and that person had just gone out to lunch (btw this person does not work for the hotel, but is actually an outside contractor to this hotel). Also I had problems with getting my room cleaned, there seems to be no set schedule as to when they do this so my advice to anyone visiting there is to call the desk and let them know in advance what time you need to have your room cleaned.

went for a 3 day get away, we live only 15 minutes away. The staff are friendly and courteous. The hotel is very well maintained and adult only makes it very relaxing. The buffet could use a little more imagination in there food selections. The specialty restaurant ( fish and seafood) was disappointing. It is annoying when they try to pitch time shares and you have absolutely no interest in one, you are there to relax not be hassled.

I loved my stay at Blue Bay! Everything was great! The food was delicious and had a variety. The staff was welcoming and always available. Servers even had our drinks at the table before we were even done getting our food! The beach was clean and not crowded, and if we wanted something and they didn't have it, they make it! I had no complaints and I'm already planning my next year's stay at Blue Bay!

This was my second time staying at this hotel. Last year it didn't go so well. This time with better planning it went well. Last year I got a standard room. I recommend the superior deluxe. It has some extra features that are nice. The food was good. Each night there's a different cuisine. International night was lousy. So was the wine and bread. Everything else was good. I even tried the fancier restaurants - El Dorado and Jade Garden - which require an reservation. Cleanliness is important here since each day my room was cleaner and fresh towels were put in my room. The beach is refreshing but the sellers get on your nerves. This nice thing about returning is that people remember you. Thanks to Nelson, Roque, Edgar and Frank for a nice stay. See you next year Blue Bay.

The accomodation is fabulous.the beach the pools ,the staff etc.However the food is terrible, the water the serve has a funny taste to it ,their wine is a very poor quality, the grill restaurant does not understand the concept of a medium rare steak, but the do have the friendliest staff around and fastest working staff that ii have encounter in Puerto Plata ,whenever I ask for something I get it in less than 2 minutes in my room, if the have the food like the Grand Ventana I will give them a four star rating ,again I enjoy my stay , they did give me bottle of water for free during all my stay, I will go back

Memorial Day weekend getaway. The entrance is fabulous. Clean, well kept like a 5 star resort. The beach is so basic but comfortable with chairs and grass huts. The rooms are so bare Motel 6 would shame these rooms. The bare bone rooms are kept very clean. The cleaning staff do an excellent job with daily cleaning. The food tht is buffet style is decent. The food service staff are excellent. The evening entertainment was great with dance shows and live music on occasion. The vendors at the beach are friendly and trying to make a living. We bought a snockling excursion for $50 from 9a to 3p. Foods and drinks provided along with snockling gear. Great reefs to see at Sosua bay. Hotel staff trying to sell time shares are the biggest bother. They are relentless...so I agreed but never showed up! The arm band tht allows you to use resort services is color coded for easy identification of those that are first time arrivals. Overall, will do it again but go with a low expectation. The resort is more a 2 stars than anything else.

Everybody was on point, the service was impeccable,overall it was a great experience.

Stayed for 7 nights April 2012. Hotel was good quality Not the best we have stayed in but value for money. Well organised even during the dominican weekends where the hotel fills up.Would recommend

Staying at the hotel was beyond my expectations. Everything over there (food, activities, staff,etc...) were outstanding. I left my cash all over the bed in the room and it was still there after they clean it.

We found the staff very friendly and accommodating. Our room was adequate, but the beds were very hard. Perfect if you love that, but an Ibuprofen before bed would make for a better sleep. The room was very clean.

Good overall standard, rooms could do with an update, especially when they show you the standard at the villas. Good Variety of food and drinks. Had a few issues which customer services could have handled better.

I was really surprised about the hotel comfort: - Room: huge, always clean, with simple decoration but nice. - Food: Many options and each one tasty and fresh. Try the Asian Restaurant was my favorite, but the Grill is very good too. - Grounds and social areas: Always clean. - Beach: The best one in Playa Dorada, clean, not the white sands that you find in Punta Cana, but perfect for spend the day and just relax. - Pools: There are 3, 3 with music and games and the other one (my favorite) in Spa area, quiet with a small bar. - Cocktails and Alcohol: This is the only complaint, the use a generic brand for rum, liquor, vodka, etc., is ok but they can make a big difference changing to better brands. Tip: ask for Vodka Tonic, Rum with Cola (Brugal) or Pina Colada. - Staff: They are great, trying to help you and give you a smile.

If you like a low price cheap hotel with average food, then this is for you. The surrounding areas are very 3rd world, so traveling outside on your own is not worth it. My wife speaks fluent Spanish so we did some traveling. The countryside and beaches outside of the resort are filthy. There is little worth doing or seeing, and everyone tries to rip you off. The maid and restaurant staff were very helpful and work hard. Beware of the staff that are trying to sell timeshares. They didn't leave us alone and would not take no for an answer. We are not the type to sit at the pool and we don't drink, which is a big draw for this place. So if you like to explore. pick a different country. We went all the way to Santa Domingo and it was the same every where we went. There are many better places in the Caribbean to go. This was the worse vacation I have been on.

The BlueBay Villas Resort in Puerto Plata is one of the best in this resort area. We were very impressed with the grounds, our room, the restaurant and the private beach. It really had everything we wanted, quiet, private, clean, just a very pleasant stay for couples.

Staff was super nice. Love the way the hotel keeps any form of waste down. Bed was very hard though and the pillows werent comfy either.

THIS RESORT WAS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST, GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE, BEAUTIFUL LOCATION AND THE BEACH VIEW WAS THE BEST I EVER EXPERIENCED IN MY LIFE. I WOULD MOST DEFINITELY COME BACK AND ALREADY TOLD OTHERS ABOUT BLUE-BAY, MY BEST VACATION EXPERIENCE YET, THANK YOU, HOTELS.COM, AND BLUE-BAY FOR MAKING MY BIRTHDAY EXPERIENCE, THE BEST OF MY LIFE....

The resort was a little better than what I thought it would be. The food was good and the service on point. I will be returning next year.

The Blue Bay villa was a nice hotel. I picked it due to its cheap price and I got my monies worth and than some. The food everyday was good and the service they provide was good. The one thing I did not like was the sales pitch they try to force you in. After taking a full day excursion i came back to the hotel only to be asked to join a one hour sales pitch. When i mentioned I just got back and was ready to relax in my room, the guy insisted, so I had to be very stern with him and tell him I was not sitting for an hour.

I went for a one day stay since I had to go to an event and I have to say I was impressed by the way they keep the hotel. Everybody is very nice to you even if you are not a tourist. Check-in was a charm and I didn't even have to go to the reception counter. I was given my key and all my documentation in less than 5 minutes. Snack bars prepare fresh food at your request in the afternoon which I found really nice since most hotels I've been to just serve a bunch of stuff so you pick it up from the tray. Also, the brands they serve are much better than the ones I've seen at some other places. THe only thing I didn't like much were the main meals. I found that things weren't half as good as I expected. Buffet food was usually cold and some things I tried I couldn't even eat them. Maybe it was just my timing since I would go almost at the very end of the buffet but that was my experience. Other than that I would say this is a very nice and quiet place that I wish I had the time to enjoy a bit more. I would recommend to anyone looking to relax since this place is very very quiet.

I'm not the resort type of person, especially in the DR, but I had a very good time at Blue Bay in Playa Dorado. I swore off Playa Dorado because of a bad experience at the Hotel Victoria, but Blue Bay was definitely a better experience. Clean, up keep of the property was good, the food and drinks were decent and plentiful. First time I gained weight while visiting the DR! The special seafood restaurant on the beach was disappointing. The service was great but the food was less than mediocre. My only problems were that you had to pay for wifi service, but it did not work in your room and the time share sellers! If I wanted to buy a time share then I'll find you but don't harass me and waste my time. My wife, she's dominican, and I actually left a day earlier than what I paid for, but this was not a reflection of our time at blue bay! I would return to this resort..... I would give it a 3.75 out of 5!

If you are single and/or interested in some nightlife, this is not the resort for you.

Will NEVER stay at another Blue Bay Resort. We travel alot and stay at all-inclusive resorts with a 3+ rating - this was not a 3+. My husband and I felt like we had stepped back into spring break. The hotel staff was alot to be desired. Conceigre was rude; was harrassed to sit through their time share presentation. What I can suggest is that they spend more time catering to those who paid to stay at their hotel than trying to sell me a time share. My understanding was we had several restaurants available - BS. due to the occupancy we ate the same buffet everyday. I do not recommend this hotel!

Recommend.

Loved the hotel. There is something here for everyone. Very relaxing atmosphere, fab food and all very easy-going. Service at reception overall could be miuch better depending on who you get.

we really enjyed the great customer service and the quiet and relaxed atmosphere.. The spa was great. The food was wonderful and changed daily. (there was always something new) I gained a few! Many places to eat and drink. All inclusive I remind you! Staff was always available and willing to do what it took to make our stay enjoyable I would tell anyone to try this place. I will definately go again.... Satisfied customer..

My husband and I were very happy with our stay and the beach on which the hotel is located. We were given a room in a quiet location with an intimate lounge seating, small pool and bar just steps outside the door. The gym and spa were also located there. The beach area is quite long and makes for a great walk on the beach. We did encounter difficulty getting a beach lounge chair on Saturday late morning (11ish) as they were all taken but the employee did try his best to accommodate us and actually did remember us later in the afternoon and pointed to several available lounge chairs when we returned to the beach. The employees are all very pleasant and willing to do whatever it takes to make your stay pleasant. Negatives-The room did not have a chest of drawers and clothing had to be placed on shelves. The bathroom counter space area is quite small. They charged $3 for use of the in-room safe, persistent employees scouting for customers to hear vacation/timeshare talks and not taking no for an answer, the bad smell as you crossed over the bridge to the beach. Having been to several all inclusives in the Dominican Republic, these negatives would not discourage us from returning as the beach and quiet is our main attraction.

Overall this property is okay, but has many issues. Management staff is just plain rude. Servers, etc are pleasant. Rooms were acceptable but are not super clean. Food was satisfactory. For an all inclusive property there are much better ones available for a few more dollars per day. Certainly rates below Iberostar properties. Would only stay there again if there was no other choice.
