Let's summarize : I have been trying to find the cheapest hotel in Singapore, so I've found the best prices in Geyland area....the red district....with prostitutes, poor surrounding the area, smelly, and totally different than the rest of the city. Staff there is great and friendly, but the rest of the hotel is definitely depressing. Is not a good option for a long stay...I would say that 2 or 3 night maximum (if you want to save some money and you have another option) PROS: -cheap (you probably won't find a better price) -near a metro station ( 4-5 blocks) so you are connected with the rest of the city... -Air conditioning is GREAT CONS -No bar, no breakfast, no machines for drinks, not laundry, you have nothing there!! -internet is not cheap or included, you have to pay separately...and the signal in the upper levels is not strong at all. -TV is not an option to spare time.... in summary....is just for one night or 2, and for singles only ( don't ever think in go with your girlfriend there! )

Allowed luggage storage, both prior to check-in time and after check-out time. Condition of the hotel was below average (walls, furniture), but the room contents were very clean, and the air conditioning worked well. Bed was very firm, so take that into consideration, considering your personal preferences for the bed. The hotel's location was good, it being a short walk away from the Aljunied SMRT station, but this hotel is surrounded by red-light district establishments. On the north-south street leading up to the hotel, I had many proprietors of red-light businesses solicit my business at night, but it was not aggressive. Just ignore or decline them if you are not interested. During the day, the narrow sidewalks were lined with women, but they seemed very passive. A short train ride from the airport makes this a good location for travelers who need a hotel overnight. Furthermore, the variety of 24-hour hawker stands and convenience stores nearby is a benefit as well.

I had no idea I would b with in the red light district! And so that was very interesting to say the least!!

Good Hotel, inexpensive, interesting nightlife, good street food, helpful staff. Not crazy about the vinyl matress cover but for the price, a cheap, clean and inexpensive place to stay.

Hotel in the Red Light District. Prostitutes proposition on street in front of hotel Not appropriate for children or family, but that is your call. Hotel Clerks were not willing to be of assistance especially for calling a taxi. Beds are hard, but that was ok for one night. Rooms very small with no mirror in the bathroom. A/C shuts off after a period of time to save energy, but you get hot, so wake up and turn it on several times a night. A cheap night in the hotel, but you get what you pay for. I won't stay here again. Also, expect to pay $5 per day for internet connections.

Hotel ok for the price. But it is in red light zone.if women travel only , it is not recommended .

The Fragrance is an ok hotel if you could have it by Internet for around 40 USD. The room was rather clean (except the bathroom's floor) and basic. Don't expect any amenities or service here. It's a cheap hotel for a quick 1 night stop over. The neighbourhood is really not nice (loaded with brothels!) so don't go there with your family! The location is good not too far from the subway (10min by walk) and just in between downtown and the airport. The hotel has also a luggage storage room which is not the case of all Frangrance hotels.

when you need for a hotel, youf ind it easy to have this hotel available for you anytime. the location is good and in the hearts of nice and friendly neighborhood. I f ytou need to move around for shopping, its just a walking distance. when you need to drink a beer or have good entertainment , its just within a glance and you can get one with no sweat at all. One thing though, you need to advise the reception on this hotel to ensure that the room you booked has already been checked , cleaned and sanitized because when I get there, the bed sheets has not been changed yet probably from the last room user the maintenance or the housekeeping forgot to do the usual task of replacing that is used inside the room. I have not seen cocroach though. However, again you have to advise the reception to make a thorough check of the room because of what I have stated earlier. lastly, the room need to be refreshed as the cigarett smell is all over the room.

EVERYTHING STARTED OUT GOOD BUT THEN THE INTERNET CONNECTION WENT OFF AND THEY TRIED TO GET IT BACK ON BUT WITH NO SUCCESS, I SLEPT WELL UNTIL IN THE MORNING THERE WERE COCKROACHES ON THE FLOOR AND ON THE WALLS !

We stayed at this hotel for one night before a cruise and it suited us just fine. Just a 5-10 minute walk from the Aljuned MRT stop it is very easy to get to on foot if you have little luggage. Otherwise a short taxi ride will get you there. The amenities are sparse and the bed had only a sheet and blanket, but it did have a decent shower and bathroom and the room was very clean. The neighborhood is the "red light" district, but that is not even noticeable during the day and not aggressive at night. Just a block from Chinatown the people watching was excellent and we found a wonderful and cheap restaurant just around the corner that had handmade dumplings (dim sum) that were the best I have ever eaten. I would definitely stay here again for a night or two and recommend it and the local restaurants to friends who are looking for an inexpensive alternative to the otherwise expensive hotels in Singapore.

We were greeted by a very unfriendly, unsmiling desk personnel. She is unhelpful and seems to think that what we are paying is not worth her effort to open her mouth to speak. We pay as much as the next guest and mind you, the exchange rate is no help. For the same amount, you would get a 4-star in KL. However, that's the way it is but the least we cld get is a smile. Air-conditioning is bad, as the air-con vent( louvres) are gone so there's this big wide space and the air-con blasting in our faces. We pointed this out to the reservation desk and all she said was, the management knows. We took 3 rooms for the festive season. Regret!!!!!!!!! AND parking is horrendous...!!!!!!!

Many brothels on same street, room was not serviced , had coffee etc but no jug and water container was empty , tv was small old and poor almost impossible to view, no soap in soap dispenser , grubby paintwork a room I would expect in a one star hotel

The neighbourhood is very bad as this area is known to be the red light! its a prostitute area... so its not that save to walk at night there...

This hotel not far from airport, near MRT about 10-15min by walk, ok for budget traveller,

i recently stayed at another brand of hotel in the same street and was disgusted by its service and condition. Fragrance is up there with the 5star hotels i have enjoyed. a pleasant surprise for a great value accommodation. i will definately be using them again.

The room was cheap. The location is the "red lights' district but it is OK. The only very disturbing thing is the fact that the room (and supposedly the hotel) is INFESTED with cockroaches. I tried to clean my luggage before leaving the room (people in the hotel are very nice and gave me a Raid pulverizer to kill the roaches) but once at the airport I opened my passport and 2 of them crawl out from it... Otherwise the hotel is cheap, the location OK and the workers friendly.

The hotel was clean, the staff was nice and the location was a 5-10 minute walk from the monorail line. Yes there were some working women down the block, however they did NOT bother me and it was a very seedy looking scene like other cities. I felt very safe, but I am a guy. If you want a clean, basic place to stay that is affordable for singapore and a 5-10 minute walk from a subway/monorail station, then this is the place. Yes there are working women down the street but they didnt bother me and there were other people just hanging out and eating at the restaurants down the block. The AC worked well. I wish the Internet was free but there was a charge to use the Wi-Fi.

If you do not want any frills w/ your hotel and on a limited budget, go w/ this hotel. Do not expect much since this hotel would only satisfy a traveler that considers his hotel a place to sleep, store luggage, and get cleaned-up only. Nothing fancy. For conservatives, avoid this hotel since it is in the middle of the red light district. There are things that are too much to see for some.

You get a reasonable place to stay not far from the airport. The area is not an issue. It doesn't feel like a sleazy area. The slippery mattress means the sheets (which are too small) come loose and that's a bit irritating but my bathroom shower was a reasonable size. No shampoo but you can use the shower soap in a dispenser.

This hotel was clean and a place to sleep. That's about it-- very simple, bare bones, no luxury. But hey, if I had wanted luxury (or could afford it, for that matter), I would have stayed at the Mandarin Oriental or the Intercontinental. One thing that kind of put me off a little was that I had 2 huge suitcases, plus a heavy carry-on and a laptop case, and the people at the reception barely batted an eye as I lugged all that up the steps on my own. Not sure if that's just a culture thing, or if we're just spoiled in other places to get such fawning service.

The hotel was fine and the roon was clean and neat. The staff was helpful suggesting places to buy some snacks. Then we learned that the location is in the middle of a red light district. This is legal in Singapore and the streets were clean and virtually without crime but it would have been valuable to know the area before picking this hotel. This made it uncomfortable for us to leave the hotel.

Unless you are on a super tight budget, don't stay here. The beds are hard, the room is tiny, and the showers are cold. You don't even get complementary soap and shampoo. Located in very seedy neighborhood, too.

This is a cheap hotel that is good for a night or two for someone passing through Singapore.

This hotel was right in the middle of a red light district! the mattress was made of plastic, could not sleep on it!

This hotel is in the red light district, but it's actually not a bad area. No one bothers you and everything is cheaper. It's also closer to the airport, so it's good for overnight stays. Its not fancy - at best a 2* hotel - but you'll survive (and save some money). Hotels in Singapore are very small and this is no exception. But I think this hotel is better than its competitors. Two free cups of water are provided. My main complaint is that they don't offer free internet and the paid internet seems expensive.

To access the internet one has to purchase a ONE TIME USE voucher. In my case the cmputer updated itself while I was on line and restarted - I lost the internet. Additionally the signal was not strong and after buying three vouchers I resorted to wlking severl blocks to an internet cafe which had excellant service at a much lower price. Otherwise, the hotel was very good.

Good value for money! good staff, clean rooms, the only negative is that its a bit too far from the subway

I chose the Fragrance Hotel Crystal from the excellent Hotels.com Web. The reviews of this Hotel were already good compared to the other very local Fragrance Group Hotels and the others in the proximity. The information that the Crystal Hotel was in the "Red Light" area and also was a "Short Stay" hotel was not in itself a concern. But I only booked two nights - just in case. On arrival - very easy by the MRT from Changi - 10 min. walk from Aljunied Station - I was really pleased with the very efficient and friendly Reception Staff. The Room on the 6th Floor - away from the Short Stay rooms - was functional, clean and comfortable, with a hot water walk in shower/toilet room.There was not a small fridge in the room. The small Brothels that lined the road were pleasant to see and well maintained/decorated. Casual low level requests from the male pimps outside to visit their place were easy to decline even in the very busy evening. Local restaurants and 7/11's were plentiful. I was so pleased that I booked the further two nights on the Web - cheaper then the direct Hotel cost. I would recommend this Fragrance Crystal Hotel for any Traveller with easy access to/from the City and all over Singapore by MRT, Bus or Taxi. It is a good value and safe Hotel, with kind supportive Staff. An efficient Safe deposit is available.I will certainly use this hotel again on my next visit.

Very friendly staff... clean rooms with all basic needs and excellent value for very decent room rates.

If you don't mind staying in the red light district of a city...then this is the place for you. The hotel is in the center of Geylang (which is all the red light district- it is apparent too) The staff was friendly and helpful. The MRT station is just around the corner... Lots of local venues to eat at... You can get internet for Sing $18 a day in your room or you can get $1 for 15 minutes down in th business center.
