It was a great location and the view's of the river bridges are wonderfu!

I was very impressed with the level of service and amenities at an affordable price for business travel. The location was very convenient, wi-fi was free and I loved the purified water available on every floor instead of bottled water. Much more environmentally friendly! The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was snug but nice. My only complaint is that the elevators were old and slow.

Petite room was too small for a normal adult. Upgraded to a "larger" room, but I guess I'm just spoiled.

This is the place we prefer to go when we are downtown Chicago. It offers cleanliness, enough luxury to be a notch above the cookie-cutter medium grade "good hotel" and unbelievable convenience for us. I love being by the river and of course in walking distance from so many wonderful Chicago gems... too many to list (go to the Cultural Ctr on Michigan and Randolph!!). Bed is comfy, room is cozy yet modern and minimalist. Love the bottled water option by the elevators. Only frustration: weeknights at 9-ish the internet was jammed with a ton of users, so it was slow. A bit frustrating. At least it's free. I could have walked to Starbucks on Michigan one block north... but I didn't feel like it! My choice.

Did no like $35.00 early check in fee other then that all was good

The hotel is not top notch, but this wasn't a big deal for us. We stayed one night and spent most of it out on the town. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a perfect location with a restaurant that I swear has the best deep dish pizza in town.

I found the room to be quite nice and reasonable for the area. I've stayed at many of the neighboring hotels over the years and given how much time I DON'T spend in them, this was a perfect fit for my needs. Very clean, modern, room was as big as it needed to be and sufficient for my needs. The restaurant downstairs was very nice, staff were very pleasant and the breakfast was also good deal for the price. The location was also great, lots of great eateries in walking distance as well as shopping for those so inclined.

The room worked for what I needed

At first impression the room was very small, but it was exceptionally clean and organized - as was the whole hotel. The thing that was best about this hotel was the location. It is dead center of everything in the city. Perfect hotel to tour from.

Great location for a weekend visit. Walking distance to great restaurants and shopping. Short walk from the Midway El line, which was very convenient. Room info on the web site was incorrect; only had one bed. But they upgraded us for minimal cost to a tower room with an awesome view of downtown (31st floor). Staff was very accommodating throughout our visit. Immediate area is a little sleepy at night, but just across the river is hopping.

the room was nice,view was great,the king bed was 2 beds put together so for couples who like to sleep next to each other there was a lump in the middle, we called down for our car and waited 35 min for it to arrive

If you're looking for a place to throw some stuff down for a night, this is it! It's very nice, and right in the heart of the city. However, the room we received was what TINY. The closet was seriously made into the bathroom, so while you were in the bathroom, you had to slide the door shut like you were in a closet. It was very close to the river and had wonderful staff.

Great location. Close to everything. The only negative was the elevators. The key card was needed to go up and most often it didn't work leaving me stranded on the elevator. Ever after recharging my card 4 times iI still didn't work. I eventually got a new card which worked sometimes. Very clean rooms. European style as the rooms were small with not much room for clothing. Free Internet in the room which was nice. Parking was a little inconvenient, however, it was less expensive than other hotels in the downtown area. I would definitely stay there again.

My partner and I stayed at this hotel for one night and we were really impressed with the quality of our stay considering that it was quite reasonably priced. The staff was quite nice and attentive and the room was great (minus the part that it faced a parking lot and they had told us it faces the river - although I couldn't care less). I also appreciate that unlike other good hotels they don't just shove everything in your room and instead you go to the guest closet on every floor to get amenities like irons, extra condiments/tea/coffee. The location is very central and super convenient to millennium park, shopping at michigan avenue, the boat tours and the lake. I'd definitely stay here again!

I loved this hotel. The decor was a cross between ultra modern and traditional; very well laid out. It reminds me of one of those high-end futuristic hotels, except this one was a third of the price. I must forewarn you though to get the standard sized room and not the mini. I overhead a guest complaining about how small the mini was which made me glad about my last minute decision to pick the standard. I liked that they had a nice Italian restaurant downstairs with arguably some of the best deep dish in town. The prices were decent too. Plus it's located around the corner from Michigan Ave. I will definitely be back again!

This was our second stay here. Love the location. This time our room was a 2 bed suite with 2 bathrooms which was perfect!

I've stayed at the River Hotel a couple of times now when attending conferences in Chicago. This year I specifically sought it out because I enjoyed it last year and its rates were about half those of the official conference hotel. Once again I enjoyed it--great location, comfortable (though small) room, perfectly fine for what I needed. Will stay again.

We are from the Chicago suburbs, but wanted to spend the night in the city going bar-hopping with some friends. We didn't need anything too fancy or elaborate, since we'd only be in the room to sleep. For the price we paid for it, I wasn't expecting a whole lot, but it was a very nice place. However, their parking situation was not well labeled or advertized, and on such a busy street, it was a bit overwhelming. Our room was a bit cold when we got there, and there was no soap to be found. We happened to be there during window washing time, and even though they said it would start after 8am, it started way earlier. Finally, our room was on the alley side, and the garbage trucks came at 6am. There was nothing to block out all that noise. It was a nice place, and the free filtered water stations were a very nice touch, just ask for a higher floor.

Essentially everything about our stay at the River Hotel was fine - except for a problem with our heat. That did get resolved. We've booked there again for another occasion so that's an endorsement.

The price for the room and valet was less than nearby hotels and we didn't plan on spending much time in the room anyway. The room was small but adequate and clean. We were able to walk to everything we wanted to do downtown and only took a cab once. The mattress in our room was very firm, uncomfortably so. We had a view of the river, which was nice, but only one small window so overall it was a little claustrophobic. The restaurant in the hotel had good breakfast.

Great location, fabulous old building, simple but clean accomodations. overall, a very good experience.

This is a very nice hotel with a great location. Across the street from Chicago Riverwalk, many places to eat nearby. Lake and State train station is about 3 blocks away. Our room was a King Suite with handicap access. The room was huge, contrary to some other reviews that I read prior to our stay. I called the front desk about some maintenance issues with the kitchenette in the room, and surprisingly a maintenance technician arrived in less than 5 minutes to fix the items (on a Friday night). Ultimately the tech replaced the refrigerator. The ventilation in our room didn't work as well as we would have liked, our stay was during an unseasonably warm period in March. We were a little disappointed that our room wasn't ready when we arrived at 4pm after a long day of traveling. We (family of 4) were asked to wait in an area with a comfortable sofa and chairs. The agent was very nice about it, and substituted a handicap accessible room (after about a 20 minute wait), which I think was bigger that the room we requested. Overall would have been a "5" had it not been for maintenance issues.

Unnowingly got upgraded to a handi-capped room, and that spoiled the overall experience.

If you're flying in on an early flight, don't expect a room ready right away. I ended up leaving I was so frustrated. When I arrived, there was a middle eastern/Indian man checking me in. My hotel room was already prepaid and he said I was lucky to have 1 room available, but I'd need to pay $35 extra for early check-in before 3pm. I've never heard of this being a national traveler for the past 5 years. I thought it was insane that they'd charge me this fee even though they said a room was already available for me. When asked to explain, the man simply replied "that's our policy." Really??! NOTHING on their site mentioned this. The elevators have keycard access, which is frustrating for those with a handicap, like I have. I've stayed in 4 & 5 star hotels with no "extra security" for elevators. This hotel clearly is a 3 star. The neighborhood is safe so why the need for elevator key card access? Location is good, not great. The hotel itself is older. Theyve *tried* updating the lobby, but the rooms are run down. Staff was rude, snobbish and unsympathetic to my special needs. Save your money and book the Intercontinental instead. This place is overrated, overpriced and undesirable.

The river hotel was perfect! I stayed Friday - sun to write a paper and it was so quiet and the view was absolutely beautiful! Great for inspiration. The staff and manager were polite as well. When I first arrived my assigned room had not been cleaned yet and they offers me an upgraded room for free which was really nice! Tw location is a hop skip and a walk from michicagn avenue and site seeing so... All in all perfect!

The hotel was nice and the location convenient. The rooms were quite small. The fitness center is hard to get to as only one elevator would take you to that level. Also, the fitness room was not cleaned and the temperature was hot. The water in the fitness center was not cool. One of the nice unexpected things was the complimentary water bottles located on each floor. That was nice since the only ice machine was in the basement with the fitness center.

The rooms were a little on the small side and bathroom was tiny, but great location. It was a block off Michigan Ave, and my friends and I were able to walk everywhere.

This was a bizarre hotel. The room was absolutely tiny, the mattress was rock hard, and they had a hand truck instead of a bell cart.

We got a good rate thru Hotels.com, but: 1) the room was very small, with a view of A/C units. 2) there was no reading chair in the room, only a desk chair. 3) We were without hot water one morning, and they were unwilling to adjust my rate. They did give me a voucher good for one free night - but that's not worth much, since they are in so few locations. The bathroom was fine. The housekeeping service was fine.

Great location, nicely furnished room, a little bit small though

The hotel staff are really nice, room very very small but location is nice. We were told one price for parking when we checked in but were charged much more when we checked out. I would get it in writing b/c I confirmed it by asking twice but had nothing in writing. Overall besides the parking issues the place was nice as long as you are not looking for a hotel with a pool or sauna or other amenities.

I chose the River Hotel because it had the lowest rate and is near the magnificent mile. Sure, the room was a bit small, but well designed and clean. Underground parking was just a block away and the hotel validates a portion of the parking costs (24 bucks/day). The onsite Italian restaurant was nice. The food was good and the atmosphere was relatively casual. It was a great bargain and I plan to stay there again if the price remains reasonable.

The location for the River Hotel is perfect. However, we found the rooms to be loud, we could hear every word of our neighbors conversations. The bathroom shower had virtually no water pressure. Expect to spend a little extra time in the shower just to get the soap off. The room size is smaller than an average hotel room but certainly not unbearable.
