The Modern Honolulu - هونولولو

A great location overlooking marina on the edge of Waikiki beach, within easy 10 min walk to the convention centre. A lovely fresh contemporary renovation and extremely helpful staff. The hotel restaurant, Morimoto is outstanding. Asian fusian food that would rival many of Melbournes best. Our partial view room on the eight floor was welcoming and spacious with good views - a little noisy on the balcony but otherwise quiet. Watch out for the ankle biting corners on the bed's timber platforms though. The Hawaii Hiking Cafe just down Ala Moana Bvd is a gem.

Service was OK. A lot of noise from the nightclub on Friday and Saturday nights. So ask for a room far away from the nightclub.Location not so good, pity it is so far from Wakkii Beach. Breakfast was expensive, but the hotel was close to shops. Tour booking girl was not helpful at all.

We were recommended The Modern by a friend who is an events organiser - he had the hotel on a short list for future events and wanted us to provide a review of the hotel! We found every aspect if the hotel extremely satisfactory and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Whilst it is at the end of the famous Hawaian beach, we did not find this any inconvenience - on the contrary, it allowed us to enjoy walks along the beach and through the nearby parks! Morimito's Restaurant is excellent - we dined in and also ordered poolside sushi - and whilst it is expensive, the quality offset any concern cost-wise! We rate The Modern highly and intend to return there for our last night before returning to Australia! Very highly recommended!

My husband and I love this hotel. The service is amazing and has been that way since the very first time we stayed here in March 2013. We've been back two times since. We want to make this our permanent staycation hotel when we need a break from the hustle and bustle of our Oahu life. The service is amazing. Everyone is nice, friendly, and on point. The hotel is clean and the decor is just our style. Everything from the lobby, lobby bar, pool, to the details around the property. Morimoto's is delicious and a one-of-a-kind experience. The room service food and food at the pool is very good as well. This time we had some friends in town from the Bay Area and we rented a day bed at the pool (which we had to spend a minimum of $150 on food and beverage). Best decision ever. So much fun! The only thing we wish we did was go to the club on Saturday night. We passed out early this trip and didn't go out. Addiction nightclub is fun, and if you don't want to deal with the club and loud music, the Lobby Bar downstairs is a great alternative. No dresscode for the Lobby Bar!

Very convinient for business travel. No hustle and business of the tourist hotels.

I am a local born and raised on kaua'i and this was my first time staying here at the modern and looks like this will be my preferred hotel! Highly recommended!!

Had a lovely stay, would not hesitate to stay here again. Adult oriented and sophisticated. Excellent staff.

This hotel is situated at the end of the beach overlooking the harbour. Close to lots of shopping. Nice views of the harbour from balcony and pool area is beautiful and staff very attentive. Pool drinks a little pricey. It is not noisy and overcrowded like other hotels and I would highly recommend it if you can get a good price on a room.

I don't believe the experience at this hotel could be any better, I will definitely be going back and was very sad to leave.

All except for the protesters it was A-mazing

Hotel is only a block from a non-crowded beach, and there is plenty to do on the half mile between it and the main shopping and event centers. The staff was absolutely amazing, going above and beyond to make sure our stay was as great as possible. Recieved a call 3 weeks in advance to schedule rides and events, and they were more than happy to look into things they didn't have information about. Fantastic service and correspondence. We would definitely stay here again.

I think this is one the nicest hotel in the area. Super clean room. Only thing was not great is the restaurant and food area around the pool.

The hotel is very clean and the rooms are fresh and sophisticated. The managerial staff are outstanding; namely Nic, Ricardo, and Aaron. They are all such superstars- they are super attentive and compassionate and very committed to ensuring your stay is as comfortable as possible. This is my favourite hotel by far and I look forward to always staying here every time I visit Honolulu.

The stay was a great experience. Definetily would love to stay again.

The hotel was well located, walking distance to many conveniences and on the bus/trolley line. Staff was very pleasant and extremely helpful with luggage, directions, tour planning, etc. The rooms were very clean and beds were comfortable. I would stay there again and I highly recommend The Modern Honolulu.

Awesome place to stay. Seemed good for young professionals without kids. Kids are great but 40 screaming kids with goggles and floaties on (like at Hilton Village) doesn't lead to relaxing time. The Modern was a nice upscale place with a great location. I will stay there again.

Nice and clean bedroom although the road was noisy at times. The pool bar has nice food and coktails. In general it was a very nice experience.

We love this hotel, however booking late forced us into an undesireable room location viewing the room and an alley. The noise is this area was very loud with delivery trucks and street noise at a constant. It would have helped if the windows were updated with double pane glass. Our Front Desk person was very helpful and tried very hard to relocate us to no avail. All rooms were books to capacity. We will stay here again just as long as we book well in advance.

The hotel was very well run and close to the ocean, the convention centre and a large mall. During a one week stay our sleep was disturbed at least three times by sirens and loud noises outside the hotel, related to its proximity to a large thoroughfare - out of their control I know, but it might be a problem for parents of young children or others who are bothered by broken sleep.

Loved The Modern - very chic hotel located at the edge of the hotel strip so you had a little more privacy yet were within walking distance of everything. They have a beautiful saltwater pool and then an additional 'chill-pool' upstairs for "adults" (bar also, more of a splash bar/pool). Concierge staff were amazing - the best I've ever experienced. Super helpful and experienced. Hotel was squeaky clean and had a gorgeous view of both the beach and the mountains. My only complaint was I had to ask for hair/shower products EVERY single day (they never left them in the room - I have no idea why since they left about 10 towels to shower with...just no products to do so and I have fairly short hair so half a bottle would have sufficed but it was a bit annoying having to call all the time). They're also right by Ala Moana Park so if you run/walk it's perfect! (And coffee bar starts at 5:30AM...)

The hotel was clean and the staff very good. My problem was that it was too far from the heart of Waikiki and the club at the hotel was very noisy, keeping me up at night (our room faced the pool/club area).

The Modern is located at the far end of Wakiki beach beside the Hilton which is a quieter end of the beach. It was great for relaxing on the beach with close access to the Hiltons lagoon. Only 5 mins walk to the major shopping centre but a a 15-20 minute walk to the heart of Wakiki. Great staff and excellent service. Definatley a good spot for a relaxing stay and for couples.

Boutique style atmosphere, exceptional food and hotel service staff. 24/7 room service a plus.

Great staff, nice rooms, limited bathroom privacy, a little far away from the main Waikiki area; ask for rooms on higher floors. Were given rooms on third floor, could not sleep because of nightclub noise; requested to be moved overnight; did not sleep at all first night. Moved to ninth floor, most of the noise was eliminated and was able to get rest.

Great service at reception but around the pool was very slow and the staff seem a little bored. Hotel has a great style and nicely renovated

The staff at the hotel were wonderful. When they heard we were doing the marathon the next day, they moved our room to a more quiet area (and ocean view!) to get some much needed rest. They also allowed for a later checkout so we could return in time from the race.

Modern Honolulu is in the old Ilikai at the harbor. It is an excellent location, and a great resort. Only complaints were a desk lamp that didn't work, and overly-trendy shower controls that were balky. But the room was great, very clean and comfortable, and the hotel pool area, bars, and general areas were fine.

The room met my fussy teenage daughter's expectations - so I am happy. We also enjoyed the foreshore walk to Waikiki.

We loved our stay at the Modern Honolulu and can't wait to be back! Only downside was the surrounding restaurants - you would have to walk a bit for restaurants but that said the food and drink and service in the hotel is outstanding. We loved the vibe and really enjoyed every minute. Also had to request a kettle but that was our only request! Thank you!

The hotel was excellent. People and location to the big mall. Will stay there again for sure. My woman loved it by the pool every day and then shopping in the evening

My wife and I loved this place. The hotel was clean and modern and was kid free! Other folks there our age (28-35) and had a bit of a nightlife. The food was good, the service was great too... Only a few minutes walk to the beach but not directly on it. Would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is nice modern, location is not perfect, little bit out of the Main Street of Waikiki. The hotel pool is very nice, the bar is great. The only problem was the shower curtain in the bathroom. It's 2012 and a modern hotel, it's unacceptable to have still this in the bathroom in the modern hotel.

We loved the Modern Honolulu. It is as intimate as it gets on Waikiki - the rest of the hotels being more suitable for an energetic time away. If you want to chill out by the pool, relax, and unwind, this is the place to go. Lovely rooms, huge tv screens. Only set-back - no bathtub! But - we were very happy and satisfied with our choice. The adult pool is an extra special touch.
