Overall id say money well spent in the hotel and the restaurant! Service was good and polite, didnt have to wait long before your table gets cleared! i would recommend you try the black pudding starter in the restaurant, wow, it was the best ever black pud id eaten, it left you wanting more! i had ribs for din with chips and that to was amazing! compliments to the chef! The only thing that let the place down was the plastic sheet under your sheets! i woke up in the middle of the night, sweating buckets! yuk! To finish off i would definately recommend staying and eating at The Kings Arms Berkhamstead.

There aren't many options in Berkhamstead, but this was a pleasant surprise. I wouldn't exactly call it a "boutique hotel", but it is very pleasant and has more character than the 'Mondeo man' chains nearby. The rooms were very clean, the bed was large and comfortable, the decor was neutral if a little grey for my personal taste. There was something of the 'school dorm' with all the angle-pose lighting; but there were plenty of conveniences - hairdryer, iron etc. The only thing which scores very lowly was the terrible shower! A miserable little dribble unless you set it to scolding! The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and the breakfast choice was varied and filling. OJ wasn't fresh though. I would stay here again when visiting friends, I think this is a good option for this town.
