Very clean and new, with great decor (chic but understated), good free food, and friendly staff. Surrounding area is a little grungy (next to an IHOP and a Walmart) but the whole town is pretty grungy, so that's not really the hotel's fault. Very convenient to the Carlsbad Caverns (about 30 minute drive).

The hotel accommodations and service are excellent, but for a light sleeper staying in one of the rooms facing the front of the building the noise is intolerable. Heavy truck and vehicle traffic noise is loud and inescapable. The windows are not well sound proofed. An active train track runs along the front street and 4am train horn blowing as it passes in front of the hotel is very loud. However, the hotel back side rooms are very quiet. If you stay here, are a light sleeper, and you don't want to end up sleeping in the bathroom as I did to escape the noise, get a back side room.

This hotel was extremely new and modern (a little out of place in the sleepy town of Carlsbad!). The rooms were comfortable and the continental breakfast was fine (though the IHOP across the parking lot is much better). I'd also recommend a stop at the new local coffee shop/luncheonette called Yellow Brix just up the road. And, a visit to the Carlsbad Caverns is a must.

Great staying in Carlsbad. The hotel was very nicely decorated, the room was clean and the staff was very friendly. Breakfast was simple but had a little for everyone.

Located on the main road to Carlsbad Caverns and US 285 it was a very convenient place to stay for a quick trip to the caverns and then continue our trip north. Nice, clean and quiet.

A wonderful and restful faciliity located convenient to all area facilities and attractions.

Desk service personnel knowledgeable and helpful, decor lovely and cheerful, outside landscaped beautifully, clean throughout, hotel staff friendly and helpful, excellent location, above average Continental breakfast, and beds/bedding super comfortable. Made for a most pleasant stay with a comfortable,quiet, and convenient all around stay. Would go back again!

I stayed at this hotel because it was new. The room was very small and the breakfast was terrible. I would not recommend this hotel.

Everything is great. I had one of the most comfortable bed and pillows with hotels. But the cleaning crew did not actually clean. They just made the bed and fold toilet tissues to show that they did it.

Hotel room was filthy! Initially when we walked into the room, it looked clean. After unpacking, we decided to get ready for dinner. And before taking a shower noticed multiple hairs in the bathtub and on the floor. This prompted us to check the bed sheets and as you would expect, the same hair in the bathtub and on the floor were also in the bed. Looks like housekeeping took saving the environment one step too far. We also had friends who were staying in another room in the hotel. And they had the door lock stick, preventing them from closing or locking the door. Luckily it was the morning of our checkout. I would expect more from a Marriott property. And will not be returning to another Fairfield again.

I liked the hotel a lot. It appears to be a new building and the decor was very bright and fun. The pool was really small. They only had one working washing machine and dryer and had difficulty getting my laundry done. However, the hotel did provide free laundry detergent. Breakfast wasn't anything to write home about, but wasn't terrible either.

The room was perfectly fine; clean and comfortable. This hotel advertised breakfast. Most of the items offered had run out after aprox. one hour of opening, no utensils were available, no one on duty to assist with obtaining anything including cleaning, obtaining necessary eating utensils, etc., in short, extreamly poorly run. Front desk could not find anyone either. Don't advertise a product if you are not going to really offer it!

My husband and I came to Carlsbad to celebrate our anniversary (year 1). From the first time I entered, the nighttime (graveyard) clerk was the absolute sweetest and most helpful person! She made sure that we had everything perfect in our room. She even allowed us to store our cake in the fridge so it wouldn't spoil. The staff was extremely nice and even if I needed anything the front desk was every helpful. I enjoyed my stay here, there was nothing to complain about and best yet, I had a great time with my husband. Thank you so much to the staff for being great and making our weekend the best.

Conveniently located at the highway junction, and between a Chili's for dinner and an IHop for breakfast. We were able to walk to both. The rooms (we booked 2) were situated next to each other. The complimentary breakfast was continental. The in room coffee sugar/creamer packets had been previously opened and missing pieces, but were quickly replaced upon request. The desk clerks were nice enough. The only thing that really bothered me was that the ice machine in this "new" hotel was out of order! I had to go to another floor for ice. Hopefully this was temporary. I would definitely stay here again if passing through.

Nice new hotel near by Carlsbad Caverns.

Upside - New, clean, and courteous staff. Comfortable beds and a reasonable complementary breakfast. Wi-fi was no problem (I'm a mac user). If you are there to see the Caverns it's only 35 minutes away and a good bargain. You should note the National Park is large and will take an additional 10 minutes driving to get to the entrance of the caves. Downside - The pool is small and the scenery out back where the pool is located could be improved by isolating it from the surrounding construction/roads.

The room was extremely clean and the employee at the front desk was extremely helpful.

My wife and I were warmly greeted by very friendly hotel staff. We were instructed about the amenities and our room, the the desk clerk was more than happy to answer any questions we had about local dinning, and the caverans.

I had a room facing the highway which was very noisy. I used the air conditioner to drown out the noise. The air condition was loud but it did drown out some of the noise.

This hotel is one of the newest in the area. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the breakfast the next morning was efficient and tasty. The hotel also had a pool, although small, that the kids played in after a long day on the road. A nice place to stay for a a family.

This is a new Fairfield Inn and was a great place to stay. The surrounding neighbor hood is still under construction. I almost did not book the Fairfield Inn because of the previous rating which did not do it justice. The exercise room was very nice and the Inn also provided a continental breakfast which are two things that are important to me.

We were spending a weekend in Carlsbad with the primary objective of visiting Carlsbad Caverns. The Caverns were awesome and apparently we got in and out before the Caverns were sadly closed due to a nearby forrest fire. Our stay at the Fairfield added to the enjoyment of our visit. This lovely new property was a perfect place to stay on the southern end of the town, headed in the right direction for the Caverns. We would stay there again and would certainly recommend it to others.

Room was a little small and missed not having a refrigerator or microwave.

This hotel was very clean...the pool was a bit small, but we were the only ones in it so we had it all to ourselves...so it was no big deal for us...the capacity is 13...

We had an excellent experience here. The hotel seemed brand new (May 2011), the room was lovely with a large flatscreen tv, and behind the hotel is a lovely (but small) pool and hot tub, as well as the real star of the show for us, a gas fire pit. We asked for the "remote control" from the front desk and enjoyed a snack by the fire at sunset. The only (very minor) drawback was the the person who checked us in seemed new and inexperienced (took a bit longer than expected), although she made up for it with great courtesy and friendliness. She even recommended a local restaurant that turned out to be a winner. This place is a winner. We picked it because of its proximity to the national parks, and were very pleased.

Overall this was a nice hotel. It was clean, the staff was friendly, on the same road as the caverns, right next to a walmart, and extremely close to a couple of decent restaurants. However, if you are travelling with children or expect a large pool, I strongly suggest finding another hotel. The pool is minuscule. It's about the size of a small bedroom and with 6 kids in it, was entirely too small! The breakfast was ok, nothing really hot on it and no good fresh fruit.
