The hotel is super outdated but if you just need a warm bed, then perfect. Breakfast consists of bread, peanut butter, & jelly. Suggest going to Tin Lizzie in Deadwood for $4.99 breakfast buffet.

WE WERE VERY PLEASED WITH THE MOTEL AND STAFF. ROOMS ARE LARGE AND VERY CLEAN. ONLY TOAST FOR BREAKFAST BUT THAT IS WHAT THE MOTEL POSTS.

Hotel was very clean and personnel were very friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast could have been better since it was only toast. The room was very spaceous. Bathroom area was kind of crowded. Could use a blow dryer too. Overall experience was much better than most of the hotels we found on our trip.

1st - it was suppose to be a non-smoking room. All they could do was the ion machine and spray. Didn't work. 2 days of smoke is bad for non-smokers. The breakfast consisted of coffee, juice (3), two kinds of bread, a toaster, 3 jellies and peanut butter! That's it. The room was very big but the bath had no hooks.......couldn't even use the hangers as they were dedicated to the closet pole (no hook). The separate sink area had no hooks either. One bar of soap that you must carry to which ever room you go. No ATT cel service and no free wi-fi as the server was down anc couldn't be fixed on the weekend. Been to many hotels and this is way down the list. Had better in 3rd world countries. Staff was very nice

Very basic. and a bit run-down, but sheets & bathroom were clean. "breakfast" was 2 loaves of bread set out to toast with jam or peanut butter, coffee & juice. Very few services in Lead & only a Subway, pizza, expensive Roundhouse or diner to eat. Diner was new with terrible powdered ice tea & poor burgers & service.

Everything including price, comfortable beds, & hot tub was great except breakfast left a whole lot to be desired. Coffee was good but a toast bar is rediculous especially with one broken toaster.

Should listen to all the reviews because most were right!! Ice machines do not work! Only toast for breakfast and the toasters did not work most of the time! We were to have a none smoking room because we had a child with Asma and when we got there they did not have one available for us! Room was terrible smoke smell. We thought we got a OK deal untill we found out others paid alot less! Dog friendly- well there is no place for dogs to go to the bathroom.

Good value, clean, well maintained room.

Absolutely nothing wrong with our stay. It is NOT in the Deadwood area, but in the Lead, neighborhood. Very close to Deadwood, but you must drive. That is the reason for the better prices for the room. Only negative is that they are making the hotel non smoking, and until they get the entire place ionized, you can still smell smoke in the room. Yes I would definitely stay there again.

The only improvement could have been a cleaner bathroom. Service was good. We didn't stay in the area long enough to provide much information, however i would stay there again.

Very convenient for the sights we wanted to see. Staff was very helpful in making an adjustment to our room.

Hotel was great...large spacious room with fridge and microwave in room. Some noise from surrounding rooms, otherwise quiet. There is alot of traveling to the sights of the black hills ...but the driving was well worth the price of hotel. Short drive to sturgis and deadwood. Will stay again...felt safe with kids.

The employees are very nice but the ice machine was broken my whole stay of 3 days. I had no hair dryer in my room and all the others were being used. Would not have been a big deal but I had a wedding to go to. Breakfast was toast or cereal no other choices. So left me wanting. Need more options. I did love the coffe and juice being available all the time though.

I will not use this hotel again! It was not anywhere near the sights I was in South Dakota to see. The hotel personnel were less than pleasant and left me feeling like I was an inconvenience to them. I would not recomend this hotel to anybody. The ice machine in the hotel was broken, the pop machine did not work, and the a/c unit froze up. Overall this was not a good experience.

Need more in breakfast area

I stayed for a week and a maid would clean up the room for me daily which was nice. The people at the desk were friendly and would usually say a greeting to me everyday. The breakfast was only toast but I liked the coffee and juice. The room was clean with a huge bathtub and offered nice window views and it was priced great for the beginning of the tourist season. The only things I didn't like were that the room did not have its own mini fridge or microwave (there was one downstairs however). I had a wonderful stay and would do so again!

This is a ok place to stay for the price. the rooms need alittle sprucing up. the breakfeast was a joke. they set out 5 loaves of bread!

I would stay again. The rooms were clean and the people were friendly and helpful.

Since we were not able to book a room in Deadwood during Presidents weekend (not sure why, the streets where dead) we opted to stay in Lead. Although older the rooms were very clean. Only complaint was lack of parking due to snow mobile trailers everywhere. I would stay here again.

After ck in we were moved due to a booking snafoo. After they asked us a 2nd time to move an up grade was given to us. This was appreciated.

Got there no one at front desk, waited, waited, then lady over by microwave says be right with you, not "Hi" just be right with you. She was heating up her food, comes back behind counter, says" do you have reservation?, again not Hi or any form of greeting. Then just checked me in and gave me keys. VERY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!!

Decent stay for the money. Staff was helpful with surrounding area, i.e. directions, restaurants, etc.

The location is very good. The hotel is pretty basic, yet adequate. The staff was friendly. The rooms were clean. It is obviously not the Ritz, but the room was spacious enough and relatively comfortable. The breakfast mainly consists of toast, coffee and juice, but the bread was fresh and the butter was tasty. Enough to have a bite before going sightseeing. If one is a tourist and intends to spend most of the time away from the hotel room, this place is adequate and inexpensive.

Our stay aat the Palace Express was overall pleasent. Nothing too fancy, but then neither was the price. The staff was friendly and personable. It is a fact that all they have for breakfast is toast and juice, but we lived. I would go back.

The staff was very helpful, and the stay was comfortable for the price and "stars" range.

Old hotel, room was clean but very musty smelling. Their idea of a light continental breakfast was their "Toast Bar" - three loaves of toast still in the plastic wrap sitting by a toaster with some jam and peanut butter packages, with coffee and juice. I mean, come on - a "Toast Bar"? Who are they trying to kid. Staff was ok.

This hotel was in a nice location, only a few miles from Deadwood, but it was dirty and the staff were not friendly. I requested an extra pillow and I was scoffed at like it was the largest chore in the world. The Continental Breakfast was terrible, only consisting of toast and water that was reminiscent of coffee. I would never recommend this place, nor stay again.

Don't usually write reviews - HOWEVER, left a camisole top hanging over the towel rack, went back to get it and housekeeping did not turn it in. Told Lost and Found as well as the Front Desk that, as a result, we would NEVER stay there again!! Also, comments are right re. wi-fi - can't get it in your room - you can wander in the halls, or, like they said, try the laundry room. Also, long black hair was left on the bathroom floor - obviously not well cleaned.

The Palace Express hotel is just that--express service means throw the covers back up without putting clean sheets on the bed--yes the sheets were dirty with "BM" on them. We asked for non-smoking room and they put us in a smoking room. They did put us in a clean room after we complained--would not give us a discount because of the non-cleanliness,but would take off for the next night which we did not stay but they charged our account for a 2nd night!! Continental Breakfast=toast and coffee.....I do not recommend this hotel to anyone!

I was very pleased with the accommodation, the room was a bit small. The price was very affordable!! Yes, I would stay at the Palace Express again!

Mold in the tub! It really grossed me out! Whole place had a funky smell. One of the clerks was really unpleasant, but everyone else was fine.

I stayed 2 nights @ the Palace & found it to be easy to find, right as you enter the town of Lead, SD. The staff was friendly & accommodating. Rooms were nice & very clean, and the cost was quite reasonable. Coffee, juice, & toast was nice for a quick "on the go" breakfast, but a little fruit & bagels w/ cream cheese would have added a little something extra. Just a thought... an Iowa guest
