Staff were very helpful. It's a bit of a walk to subway stops and retail establishments, but not bad.

Small rooms but clean and comfortable, great location and awesome breakfast. Good for the money.

I enjoyed my short stay, I can't give a full review though since I didn't stay for the breakfast. Sure it's a small room but it did the job. Clean, friendly staff and conveniently located near 5th avenue and all the fun shops, restaurants and cafes it has to offer. Would recommend it to my friends back home in Sweden.

Windows are drafty, walls are so thin you hear everything in the next room. The staff were all very nice and the breakfast cafe was really good.

We were barely at the hotel because of the size of the room. It was MINI pocked size! Plus breakfast was a voucher to get a muffin and a coffee in a cafeteria somewhat close to the hotel. Service was great though.

It had what we needed, a clean bed, good shower and a budget friendly price. Good location, near a subway stop and park slope. Go for it.

The rooms are tiny but it's near everywhere I needed to go so I would stay again.

The hotel's location, staff, and overall condition were fine. Unfortunately, this was a business trip for me, and there were two things in particular that were really tough to work around. First, the "desk" was a side table about the 12x18 and about 30 inches high, and there was a folding chair. This did not make for comfortable conditions to try and write/email/etc. There also was no lobby to sit in for this type of work (that I was aware of). Also, there was no iron or ironing board in the room to get ready for work the next day. When I called the front desk, they were very prompt, but were only able to provide a mini-ironing board. I would use this hotel again for vacation, but will not be staying again for business.

The hotel was nice enough, everything was clean, but it was close quarters. There is no lobby, so if you're planning on meeting up with friends, pick a nearby restaurant to start the night.

Basic hotel in Brooklyn - small rooms but clean. No onsite parking - street parking only. No onsite restaurant - down the street. Cable was very limited - eg no CNN. TV remote was missing from room.

My wife and I have stayed in nearly a dozen different hotels in Brooklyn. We are always looking for the most competive rates based on cleanliness, room size, and convenience. The rate at the Union Hotel was competive and we hadn't stayed there yet, so we gave it a try. Really, the only positives is that it is in a convenient location near Park Slope and The Barclay's Center, and the hostess was friendly. The negatives are too glaring. There is no lobby, just something like a hostess at a podium desk. I could see my breath in the cold elevator. The rooms are the smallest I've ever encountered. I felt like I was in a youth hostel in europe during my backpacking days 30 years ago. The thru-wall heater was literally inches from the bed and it sounded like I was sleeping next to a loud dryer. The cold shower which never got even warm really brought back fond memories of camping in Spain. - You get the idea! Honestly...never again!

goes without saying the price can't be beat. some noise filters through the walls, and the heater thermostat was so sensitive that it seemed to kick on every 5 minutes, and was pretty noisy. But again, considering the price, was well worth it. Would just recommend to the staff to hand out a brochure of info about what hotel includes (had to ask if they had ice machine/microwave in the building), and amenities nearby. Turns out there's an indoor rock climbing gym on the same block, that info would have been useful ahead of time for planning purposes (as well as other amenities in the area). great for single person/traveling alone, a couple wouldn't be too bad, but not great for a family. Make sure you don't get a room near a stairwell (banging doors) or front desk (too much foot traffic/noise). Would def recommend!

Second night, the sink did not drain.First night, my colleagues room had an awful smell, not identifiable. Breakfast was good.

We chose this hotel because we were going to the Barclays Center for a couple of basketball games. It is about a 10-15 minute walk. Not bad at all. There are a couple of hole in the wall bars along the way. The room itself was very clean but also VERY small. It was a small bathroom with a bed, thats it. There wasn't even a path to walk on the side of the bed, it was that small. So it is in a great location but definitely just a place to sleep.

Avoid this hotel at all costs! Budget is budget, but this isn't worth it... A cheap room typically means smaller size and less amenities. If you've traveled through Europe on a budget then you know what I mean. However, budget hotels shouldn't include dirty, unwashed and stained sheets and covers, a clogged sink, a staff that is either helpless or has attitude and also a list of things promised (and presumably that you pay for) that aren't included (like a safe, minibar, fridge...). The website shows a large lobby, what looks like a bar on a rooftop garden, and also a dining area... don't expect anything like that. Also night security is lax and the walls are thin and some rooms looked literally like they were 3 feet from the front door on the first floor. Glad I was upstairs at least. Save up for a nicer option! Anything!

Hotel room was small (that was to be expected). It was loud! Drunk people coming in at all hours of the night proclaiming (in very loud voices) how drunk they are. Convenient location but horrible night's sleep.

Room was small, but as described and very inexpensive. Free breakfast at cafe 3 blocks away, good location for access to restaurants and subway. As described

TV was high on the wall to the left of the bed. AC/heating unit under the window stuck over the bed by a few inches. Bathroom was oddly huge compared with tiny room. There's only a tiny desk in the lobby and no chairs, so it gets clogged when others are checking in. Staffers in hotel were friendly. Everything was clean. Location is a bit on the edge of the heart of Park Slope. Barclay's Center is a few blocks away.

Breakfast at nearby diner was wonderful. Extremely small room approx 8 x 10. Bed shoved against a wall with maybe 2 foot aisle on other side. Only way to watch TV was to stand against the door. Clean room but ragged towels. At times unattended lobby. If you need an expensive place to lay your head down, this may be for you!

This was a great location for an overnight stay after we attended a concert at the Barclay's Center. The room was very clean and the front desk staff were very polite and helpful. Guests do have to be prepared for the small size of the hotel and the rooms, though. Luckily, my husband and I don't mind being in close quarters with one another! The room was so small that we had to negotiate around one another very carefully to move from the bed to the bathroom and back. And, when you're 7 months pregnant, small spaces like this can present even more of a challenge! Also, at initial check-in the front desk person had a little bit of trouble finding the reservation and acted as though he were a bit confused about the hotels.com confirmation number. We got past all that and our stay -- overall -- was quite pleasant. There was a tall wardrobe with multiple drawers in the room, so there was generally sufficient space to put away things. But, in a room this small, some additional well-placed shelving in the sleeping area and in the bathroom, as well as an extra small folding table, wouldn't hurt!

Pro: Location convenient to subways into Manhattan; Great complimentary breakfast offerings at nice cafe 2 blocks away with very friendly staff who made us feel welcome each morning; comfortable bed; clean room Con: No bedside lighting--only light was overhead, with light switch by the door; TV channel lineup was quite strange--no networks, and only about 10 cable channels, inc BBC America and the Tennis channel; Small room, which would not be an issue except the armoire was very inconveniently located, making it impossible to move around; we were excited about what looked like a rooftop terrace on the website--doesn't exist! Overall, OK for the money, but next time we'll stay at the Holiday Inn Express 2 blocks away.

Not a bad place to stay for a night. I wouldn't want to be there for more than a night or two though. The rooms are small, even for NYC standards. The hotel is about an 8 block walk from the Atlantic Ave MTA station, so you can easily get around everywhere you need to go.

Loved it. Perfect for what it is--a tiny clean room for comfortable night's sleep. Simple, not luxury. Modern style. Just outside of the trendy Park Slope areas, but easy walking distance to them. Parking garages within several blocks. No-parking fire hydrant space in front of hotel made for easy car-service pick up and drop off. Has an elevator (some hotels in this price range are walk-ups). Perfect for simple overnight stay. Rooms are tiny, Comforter/bedspread. Like small European hotels. I will stay here again. Very satisfied.

For those visiting family or friends in Park Slope this hotel is one of the best deals around. We didn't find anything less expensive. The hotel is newly completed. The bedroom and bath are immaculate. Parking is available on the street, although the neighborhood might make some nervous who are unfamiliar with Brooklyn . There are a few rough edges that should be corrected: inadequate lighting in the room, with a couple of fixture outlets covered by blank plates; dark hallway apparently due to a burned out light fixture bulb. Front desk was generally helpful but was not able to mail us a couple of items we accidentally left behind in the room.

Even though I knew from reading on this site before that the room would be small, I wasn't quite prepared for how small. It is really only adequate for sleeping. This hotel is more like a hostel, so it should be thought of that way. It's a great place to park your stuff while you're out in the city and to fall asleep at the end of each day, but people who need more space for young children or to work in the room should probably consider spending extra for a more traditional hotel. It would also be nice if there was a vending machine or ice machine on the premises so guests didn't have to walk a block down the street to buy a cold drink. On the other hand, there are great things about the hotel. It is very competitively priced and close to Manhattan (20 minutes to Canal Street on the R subway line). The hotel staff are generally friendly and helpful. The free breakfast is provided at a neighborhood restaurant that has excellent food and service. Several other restaurants in the neighborhood provide great food at decent prices including one with 24 hour delivery to the hotel.

If you plan to visit NYC for a short trip (3-4 nights or less) and don't want to pay Manhattan rates, then the Union Hotel is a decent option. It's a good deal conveniently located on the edge of Park Slope, a desirable neighborhood in Brooklyn, and its about 20-30 subway ride to midtown Manhattan. My fiance and I stayed on night for a fun trip to NYC and we had a room with a single king size bed. Though the room was quite small, its was clean. The only other drawback is that our window faced the adjacent street from the second floor. This made it difficult to have privacy without completely pulling down the shade, which blocks out virtually all sunlight. In terms of service, it was hit or miss. The attendant we met upon arrival was not pleasant, though the one we dealt with when leaving the hotel was quite friendly.

The hotel is convenient to the subway (Union St to the south and Atlantic/Pacific to the north) on an industrial block, but just one block from 5th street (more shops/ restaurants). The hotel has been recently renovated and is very clean. The rooms are tiny but, hey, who goes to New York to stay in the hotel? The hotel gave us breakfast at a coffee shop down the street. There are no coffee makers in the room.

I like that there was wi-fi, a newspaper and a voucher for complimentary breakfast at Station Cafe - 2 blocks walking distance. The bathroom/shower was very modern. The size of the room overall was small for the two of us but the king bed (which was 2-twin beds together) was surprisingly comfy. I wil stay here again when visiting family and boyfriend's family.,

overall very pleased, the room was a little congested and small but for the price it was worth it. What was really nice that they offered me a beautiful breakfast. I also loved the decor of the room. I loved the courteousness of the staff. Be careful with parking. There is only off street parking but you must park across the street if you check in on a Sunday, and you must remove your car before 8 am or it will be towed. That was a little inconvenience. However, overall everything was blessed. I would go again and recommend to my friends.

We intentionally booked a "small room" which still had an ample queen sized bed, large bathroom, and convenient storage space. The breakfast was great, closeness to subway line, nearby restaurants, and the availability of nearby on-street parking all were great. Very clean and well-run budget hotel. Great bargain.

There is nothing good I can say about the hotel. We struggled to the door in the rain with our luggage, but a hotel worker sat in the tiny lobby and watched us try to open the door. The parking garage the hotel has an arrangement with is several blocks away. The room air conditioner went on and off all night. It was too stuffy and hot when it was off, and too cold when it was on. In addition, the noise kept us up much of the night. The staff was generally unfriendly, and English is not their primary language. When we checked out, the desk clerk didn't know anything about the coupons for a reduced parking rate, and he wouldn't call his boss because, "I don't want to wake him up." As a consequence, we paid $34 more for parking than we needed to. If this were the only hotel in New York City, I think I still would prefer sleeping on a park bench.

The room was so tiny just the bed fit it . Luggage had to pile up. You getcaught on bed corner going to bathroom . Clean but claustrophobic.

This hotel was quite expensive and just filthy. I told the front desk that the toilet was clogged when I arrived and they said they would fix it right away. When I returned that night, it still wasn't fixed. The shower was hairy, but the bed was the worst. There were at least 5 different stains of various colors. I'd sleep in a park before staying at the Union Hotel again.

I was not happy it was not comfortable , with the TV on the left side of the bed and no wendows open , the bed was dertty and no clean , I am not recoainding this hotel u'll have a lot of complaining like that....: (

Rooms were not a comfortable size

to call this room tiny would be a great compliment. What hotels.com called a standard queen was called a cozy queen by the hotel. The only way it could be called standard was in comparison to a standard poodle. the room was about 7 by 10. the bed was in a corner partially overhung by the AC unit. to get out you had to crawl over your partner. When my wife opened her suitcase on the floor we could not open the bathroom door or the armoire door. note that there are other fairly standard amentites missing, such as kleenex. there is no bedside lamp. one person could stay in this room if they did not want to read in bed.

There is no lobby. When you open your door you will hit your bed. This place is tiny. Decent decor.
