Staff, food and amenities were excellent. Eager to please us and remember us from our previous visits.

It has seriously deteriorated. The garden rooms sold on Orbitz are like staying in a prison - and noisy. I have stayed at this hotel over the past 40 years and it has outlived it’s useful life; lots of beautiful new hotels in Addis now.

We checked in and got given dirty rooms - in a very tired, dated hotel. When we told the front desk duty manager that the rooms were dirty, she said 'That is what you paid for'. She then told us to sit down, as we shouldn't complain in front of other guests - and kept us waiting 20 minutes. After that, she was very keen to give us an upgrade. The rooms were much nicer - but the WiFi didn't work properly and one of the rooms had a cockroach. (All fairly harmless things, but avoidable). Food quality to the rooms was poor and the balcony door didn't close - required a technician to come and put in a temporary solution. Totally understand that it's Ethiopia - and some things won't be the same - but dirty rooms, cold food at this price should not happen.

Worst Hilton I had ever stayed. Plz don't be deceived by the name of Hilton.

This hotel is an amazing throwback to another era. The hotel is a delightful oasis in Addis Ababa, it covers a huge area. In addition to the hotel, there's an Ethiopian Airlines office, travel agencies, variour retail, a supermarket - Rift Valley wine sold there - The property was full of life brought by tourists, NGO and other business people, and locals out for a good time. The bars and restaurants are excellent, the food was very good. The room felt like 1962 - great style, very clean, and everything worked fine. If you want a 21st century place with no character, this is not your place. I will be back here when I'm in Addis again.

The property (my room) was old and stained. There are signs of water leak everywhere.

I was put in the room that is not renovated . I was told because I booked thru Expedia.ca

This hotel is in decrepit condition. The room wasn’t ready for check in despite arriving at 6:30pm. The way to the room was dirty with rubbish strewn on the floor. The toilet didn’t flush. The service was appalling. I will never recommend that hotel to anyone I actually like!

The Hilton was consistently rated as one of the best properties. At just under $300 a night we thought we were guaranteed a reasonable room. However, the property itself was stuck in the 1970’s needing an uplift. The room was even worse. The bathroom, in particular needed to be gutted. The tub had stains, the tiles had blackish grout and the caulking was pulling away in places all over the bathroom. The main room had poor lighting requiring us at times to use a flashlight. Electrical plugs were in short demand. However, on a positive note, the staff were friendly and efficient, although the restaurants were somewhat understaffed. The food was acceptable but for the size of property having only a buffet, bar and outdoor casual fare seemed inadequate. There was another sit down restaurant cited but was never opened when we were there. In short we would not stay there again. Extremely disappointing.

Hilton is the happening place in Addis. Lots of people meet here and weddings seem to always be in progress. We like this hotel because it's hopping with local people hosting special events. I also like the specialty shops, but be forewarned, they don't take credit card and will do everything to get American dollars/cash. Very frustrating if you're at the end of your trip and your trying to get rid of Birr. ATM's here only dispense Birr and half the ATMs don't work or have spotty service. Lack of internet is a big frustration for this hotel - it's the Hilton. It feels like customers shouldn't have to deal with this problem even if the rest of the city is. And staff don't do much to help. They don't offer running credit cards manually. Just be prepared the pretty things you like to buy may be totally inaccessible if the internet is down.
